Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, and have a large load of wash in the washing machine.  I need to do some paper work today and get my kitchen table cleaned up as I have bridge here on Wednesday.  I'm expecting Tim to come by to check on me as usual on Monday morning.

Not much else going on here today besides more leaf raking, the paper work, and the kitchen tidied.  I have a Church Circle meeting tomorrow morning and my ride will pick me up about 8:45.  Tomorrow is also election day with run-offs for mayor and other local offices.  Hopefully I can get home and walk down there to vote before it gets too hot.  On Wednesday, the bridge club will meet here, so I need to get my house in order, get out the card tables, cards, etc. but will do that sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Jane, I love both old movies and sports--but on the weekends, I stick with sports.  I like to keep up with the teams I like, but unfortunately our Auburn team has lost again!  And last week South Carolina lost to Kentucky--Kentucky never used to have much of a team, but they're hot this year.  I'm sorry about the flooding in your down town area.  It's tough on the business owners.

Mary, it sounds like you're going to have to take a few naps between outings today!  Gosh, I'd hate to have 5 appointments in one week.  Do you drive yourself or have transportation from your facility?  I hope the appointments go well.  Also hope you have some time to rest and relax at your facility.

Sharon, I've been unhappy with the Sunday School schedule (grade 3-5 all in one class) that I've been teaching.  I told the C.E. director yesterday that at the end of the quarter, I'd like to quit--and she said it was OK to quit now.  She has 2 teachers each Sunday and the "main" teacher does everything and there is no need for 2 teachers in the class.  If I were the "main" teacher, I'd do it differently and when I told her that, she immediately let me "retire"!  The class never has had more than 5 or 6 students when I've been there as a "helper" or even if I were the only teacher.  Good for you for sharing with another teacher!

Darlene, I wanted to get my flu shot on Friday while we were at Kroger, but there was a fairly long waiting list of people who also wanted a flu shot.  I'm going to try again on Thursday when I don't have bridge and will call a Seniors And Friends volunteer to take me down there--and I'd like to get a haircut, too, but that will depend on the wait time at the Great Clips next to Kroger.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

P.S. Jeanne, you were posting when I finished.  It sounds as if you're getting ready for winter with a furnace check up and porch roof fixed.  I still have my 2002 Toyota which Tim uses to drive me to Doctor's appointments and grocery trips.  I'm not going to get rid of it as it has less than 50,000 miles on it and the distance to Kroger and/or my appointments are fairly short.  When I bought it in 2002, I'd decided not to take many more long road trips with Alex and Nic as both were going to college soon.  I am going to the beach at Thanksgiving with Jon, Stacie, Alex and Nic.  Jon will come up here and we'll meet Stacie and the boys at a condo down there.

SharonE

Hi Gals, Mary, you really do have a busy week! Glad your bridge partner is back. I have 2 appts on Thurs--one for a final, I hope, Ortho appt, the other for my annual mammogram.

On Wed, I'm going to take a 90 yo bridge friend shopping with me as she doesn't drive anymore. I need to go to 2 or 3 stores and she's amenable if there's a place to sit when needed. We'll have lunch out too.

Jeanne, glad you're getting everything checked out and good for winter and that you don't need a new car.

Sue, hope you can get everything done this week that you have planned. Good for you on quitting SS teaching. I know you weren't happy with the way it was done.

Jane, sounds like a nap is in store for you today. Have you tried Tylenol PM when you wake up in the middle of the night. It helps me, but I'm sure you've thought of it. Too bad about your local flooding. I agree about needing 2 TV's. We seldom watch the same things.

I talked to Melanie this AM and she said she had ordered a cheesecake from Eli's in Chicago. I went on line and found what I wanted and it will be delivered Thursday! Yea! No looking around and no shipping fees either. Just more expensive than I had hoped, but we'll freeze some of it for Christmas.

I need to eat lunch and then go to the FC. Hi to all. Sharon

Marilyn

Hi every Buddy, Hospice nurse was here this morning, She is gouing to try to help up  some way we don't know yet how. I am thinking I will be looking for a caregiver for Keith. I will still need to get him to an attorney   while he is still able to understand what he is signing. to get my anme on the deed with his,  just in case he has to be  put in Memory Care. I don't want the state to take the house.

maryz

Marilyn, I hope the Hospice nurse can help you some - even unofficially.  Good luck with the legal stuff.

Sharon, hope you get your final report from the orthopedist.

Sue, I hope you don't get too much wind and rain from Michael.  We do need the rain, though.  We're supposed to finally get some cooler temperatures by the end of the week - even with some lows in the 50s by next Monday night.   :)

jane and Jeanne - your temps are crazy - up and down so much and so quickly.  It's no wonder the joints are hurting.

I had my 6-month teeth cleaning this morning.  All is good - except for one filling that is starting to "leak" or something.  It's the last upper molar, and I think I may opt to just have it removed, rather than get a crown for it.  I'll have to think about that.  And then I took my car for routine service. Nothing wrong there, but that took up the whole morning.  It was good to get back to bridge tonight - even if we didn't get any MPs.  We did come in with 47% - and that's not too bad.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Marilyn, yes, the legal stuff needs to be taken care of immediately and before the surgery. Glad the Hospice is helping some.  Caregivers sound good, at least till after the surgery.

Mary, sounds like you've been busy. We are supposed to get rain & wind from Michael Wed & Thurs, the 2 days I have plans, so I hope it is minimal. I have brought stuff in from the patio just in case. Melanie & hubby are in Hernando, FL and expecting some effects of it. My sil and her 3 children live in Tallahassee which will definitely get effects. I, too, hope Sue doesn't have any problems.

I did get to the FC yesterday and tried out the recumbent elliptical machine for 5 mins to see if it hurt my back. It didn't, so will add that to my repertoire.

Haven't heard from John yet but I guess no news is good news. Sharon

jane

Storms again last night...now to get cold...82 yesterday and to be highs in 40s by weekend.  Crazy 😜.

SCFSue

We're expecting rain today--and my Wednesday bridge club is playing here today.  Terri is driving Helen and I'll probably have to go out with an umbrella to get her into the house and bring her walker  inside.  We had a terrible time at Ruth's 2 weeks ago because there was a huge downpour when we were leaving her home.  Terri backed her car up to the small covered entry way and I pushed Helen in the walker to the car, helped her out of that and into the car.  We were all drenched by the time we were in the car.  When Terri takes Helen home, she can pull up into the covered driveway there and usually Helen's daytime helper comes outside to help her get inside.

I've been busy getting ready for bridge.  I've put out cups for coffee and glasses for tea and water.  I move my coffee pot into the dining area because I have room for the glasses, ice bucket, sugar and cream, and a pitcher of cold tea, on the breakfront in that area.

I've showered and dressed and now did to dig up the prize money. ($1.00, 75cents, and one quarter!  We really play for big stakes here!

Have a nice day every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals, just now started to rain harder, mostly a light sprinkle when I was out and about with my friend. I did find some nice shirts for John and a new purse for me at Stein Mart. I didn't find anything at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. My friend only bought a satin pillowslip. We had lunch at Jason's Deli, which was nearby and good.

When I got home, my answering machine had a message from John that he was okay and having fun. He's supposed to call back, but hasn't. I was relieved to hear from him though. I was going to call the travel agency this afternoon if he hadn't called.

Jane, the weather is just crazy. We are supposed to finally get down in the 70's Friday and on.

Sue, hope your bridge goes well and that you don't get drenched again helping your friend in.

I'm going to cancel my dr's appts for tomorrow. Too much rain & wind to be out in.
Hi to all. Sharon

maryz

No rain here yet.  It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow, but ours will come from a cold front moving in from the west - not from Michael.  What I'm watching live really looks awful. Knowing where Sue lives, it looks like she's getting a lot of wind and rain.  I'll have to check on the place we rent - but it's farther on the western edge - near the mouth of Mobile Bay.

jane, we're supposed to down near 50 in the next couple of days (for a low).  But it hasn't been up and down like yours.

I went to the first PT session this morning - mostly evaluation and a couple of tests today. The vertigo did show up, so at least he got an idea of what he'd be working with.  He's got me scheduled for twice a week for 4-6 weeks, so I'll be going on Monday and Friday mornings for a while. The mani-pedi did feel very good, though.  Nothing else today.  Only one appointment tomorrow - with my financial adviser.  My last statement looked great, and I assume this is just a routine year-end meeting.

Hugs to all the Buddies !

Morning, Buddies!

It’s fall here...highs in the 40s now and frost possible the next several days.  We will be dumping our hanging baskets and emptying the pots in the back, and bringing in the oriole and hummer feeders.  Time for those little guys to head south.

Sue & Sharon & Mary...hope all is well with you and Hurricane Michael.

We picked up our friends last night at 10:30 pm at the airport in CR.  They’d had a looong day....leaving Paris, France at 4:00 am Iowa time and getting home here a bit after midnight.  Both of them were exhausted.  They’re hosting a party Friday night at a local place as that day is their 60th wedding anniversary.

I hope to spend today getting my family bookkeeping up to date. I’d bought a new external HD and it was a dud.  That came only after being in contact with 4 technicians at Western Digital.  Best Buy replaced it without further question ...I had just purchased it Sept. 28 and had all the documentation from Western Digital.

Jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, It's been pouring here. The wind isn't too bad yet, but I'm glad I cancelled the appts. They even closed the schools in Charlotte and Fort Mill.

Never did get the 2nd call from John. I presume they left PR which is the only place he could call from till he gets back to FL. Glad he left the message that all was okay and that he was having fun. Hope he's getting some points.

Mary, I'm glad you are getting the PT for your dizziness and that the therapist saw it.

Jane, we're to be at 73 today. Got down to 54 last night! Whoo Hoo! When my mums out front die, I'll replace them with pansies and also put pansies in the back. They survive all winter here.

Hi to all. Sharon

jane

Sharon....I envy you having pansies.  I love them, but it's too hot here in the summer for them, and, of course, as you know from your years in IN,  nothing blooms here in the winter....except icicles!   :2funny:

maryz

The devastation along the FL panhandle coast is incredible.  I'm so sorry for those folks.
And it was amazing that the storm held together for so long.  I've heard from all my SC folks, and they're all fine.  We just had about 0.5" of rain here, and no wind from the storm.  It all passed south and east of us.

jane, we're always ready for the first frost here - to get rid of the autumn hayfever triggers and mosquitoes, but it usually doesn't come until November.  I'm glad we don't get your winters, though.  ;)

My meeting with the financial folks went well this morning.  They certainly are doing well with "my money" - I have (on paper, at least) almost 50% more assets than I did when I started with them 2 1/2 years ago.  One dumb move on my part this morning, though.  I thought my appointment was at 10.  So at 8 a.m., I was sitting around in my PJs reading the paper, when my phone beeped a reminder.  I checked and, OMG, my appointment was for 9!!  :o  I did get there on time, and didn't speed, but I hate being that rushed.  Shame on me!

I hope we hear from Sue soon.  And Marilyn, check in when you can and let us know how things are going.

Hugs to all!

SharonE

The wind has picked up some this afternoon, but still isn't bad. All my Tallahassee family is okay but without power. My sil staying with a daughter. Melanie & Sangmin are fine, didn't even lose power.

Jane, I love your statement of only icicles blooming in your winter. Yes, I remember that all to well. Glad it's behind me.

It is still spitting a little rain, so guess I'll wait till tomorrow to grocery shop. My cheesecake arrived. I was afraid it wouldn't in the storm. Guess I'll go read or nap. Sharon

SCFSue

We had torrential rains all day yesterday.  It finally stopped very early this morning.  I spent a good bit of time after breakfast dragging downed limbs down to the street for Monday's trash pick up.  I'm not finished as I had a friend coming by to take me to Kroger for my flu shot and then to Great Clips for a haircut (where I was scalped--sometimes the hairdresser (never the same one) gets scissors happy.  I know it will grow out to the length I want in a couple of weeks, but I feel like a newly shorn sheep!

It started pouring rain here yesterday about 3:00 and we were still playing bridge.  Everyone wanted to go home, so we just quit and they did.  I didn't get to give out the prize money--but no one wanted to wait to tote up the scores!  The rain continued through the night.  Lots of wind, too.

Mary, I hope the PT evaluation and upcoming exercise program will help.  I did get outside about 8:30 this morning and drug lots of downed limbs down to the curb.  I'm still not finished and hope I can get the rest done tomorrow or Saturday morning.  Tim will come over tomorrow to take me to the library, Kroger, and out to lunch, so I won't get much done tomorrow.  Congratulations on getting your assets organized and earning Money!  We visited a financial specialist last year and updated my will and other items that needed to be taken care of.

Jane, I'm glad your friends made it home safely, but I know they must be exhausted.  That is a LONG time to have to stay inside an airplane.  Hopefully they'll be able to rest up so that they can enjoy their anniversary celebration tomorrow night.  60 years is a great milestone for a marriage!

Sharon, I have to pull up some of the summer flowers in my flower beds ASAP.  An organization here in Auburn is having a big pansy sale down at the Rec Center near me and I'd like to get at least 2 flats of pansies to replace daisies and other plants that are giving up the ghost now that the nights are cooler.  So far we haven't had frost, but it won't be long now.  My flowering shrubs are all doing well, though, and will be OK most of the fall and winter if the temps stay moderate.

My arm is hurting from my flu shot, but it's bearable.  I always get shots in my left arm as I don't like to do anything on my right arm.  That's where I had the cancer removed and probably would be OK now, but a friend who'd had cancer in her right breast had so much swelling and pain in her right arm--especially after her cancer returned big time.

I'm glad to see that you gals didn't get all the rain/mud/etc. that we did here.  It'll take me several days of cleaning up the mess, especially in my back yard.

Sleep well, every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

Good to hear from you, Sue.  And that you didn't have any major damage.  Michael was a terrible storm - and sprang up so quickly.  I heard that there was flooding in Charlotte, too, and I hope that didn't affect Sharon.  I know she was planning to stay home.

I had my second PT session this morning.  He's given me some things to do at home.  He certainly can reproduce my symptoms, so he knows what he's dealing with.  And I hope these can help - nothing too hard to be doing.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Sue, glad that you didn't experience anything worse. So many old trees in Charlotte & Ft. Mill toppled over because of all the soil saturation. Of course they took power lines down with them. No problem here at all. Some flooding in Charlotte and other parts of NC, but nothing around here.

Mary, good luck with your PT. I do hope it helps.

I saw on FB that Keith is much better after his infection cleared up. So glad. UTI's in the elderly often cause mental confusion or dementia. I found that out with my mother.

John will be home tomorrow about 4:30 if his plane is on time. I'm anxious to hear all about his trip and whether he suffered any effects from Michael.

I'm heading to the FC shortly.  No other plans.  Hi to all. Sharon

JeanneP

I am not getting on the computer for hours these days but I do read the postings.
Things got so far behind with the summer being so hot. Was also hard to get people to work on what needs doing. Still looking for one for the painting outdoors.
But now I think things will have to hold off until Spring. Big change on the weather. Got down to 31 last night and will be same all week. Warming up only to 40s.
Did get a call today and someone will replace the ceiling fan in dining room and maybe will clean gutters on porch. Furnace all taken care of. Has not stopped running since.
Just read in paper today that a warehouse is being built. Ready in Nov. They will need 3500 people to work in 3 shifts handling packages . Amazon must have hired United Parcel and the other carrier as delivery carriers. It will put a end to some of the stores at the big mall as  they can't get people to work there and even 2 Walmart have closed down this past month and other than Macy's at the mall the others have left. Such A Bergners, Sears. Big sport store. lots of small ones.
This is a University town and twin cities. only about 195000 in both together.. The new one is going to start out at $16 a hour and can work either 4 or 8 hours on choice of 3 shifts. Great for students also. 2 new bus lines have started coming in from outlining small towns.  Our 2 big Hospital take so many workers. Online shopping is now taking over Read where Amazon shipping was in the Trillions this year. The choice now for the big warehouse is between Chicago and Indianapolis. It will be needing thousands of workers. Should be no excuse for people to be out of work soon. Living on welfare. How the places are changing. It is getting harder now for college grads getting jobs to stay around the area.

Our teachers in all the schools went on strike yesterday in the local schools. I suppose that their Salaries will have to improve when the Minimum wage starts going up to $15 a hour. A teacher only making about 12% a year more. Back in the late 60s I remember people making min. wage got about $1.50 a hour.
Looks like rain and so got to head out to buy a new ceiling fan.

Getting a new computer end of month that will be W10 and so want to have more time to be on it. Spend more time on S and F.
JeanneP

Marilyn

Yes   buddies, Keith is odoing better, On Wednesday he took a shower and got dressedin his regular Levi's  with help from me to get the hose and bag down his pant leg. He is eating better since I am putting the food on his plate before I give it to him. He can be lefty alone while I go do things however, I will have someone stay with him while I go to church on Sunday only because he likes my frined Darci and we haven't seen her in a long time.

maryz

I had heard that about UTI aggravating symptoms of dementia, Marilyn.  My eldest works for a group of internists and she says she sees it frequently.  Glad to hear he is better.  It certainly makes your life easier, too.

Jeanne, I heard on the weather tonight that they had had snow near Chicago, so I guess that's in line with your temperatures.  I hope you like your new computer.

Sharon, glad your community didn't have any damage from the storm.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Snow showing on our radar, but I don’t think it made it to the ground.

Quiet weekend planned here...doing some putdoor things in preparation for winter.

Jane

jane

Jeanne...I like Win10 and haven't had any problems with it.

Marilyn...so glad getting K healthy has helped with the confusion.  I know you'll get him to a lawyer while his mind is clearer or get advice from lawyer on your POA to get your name on that house.  I don't know if there's a time limit on when that had to be done to keep the house safe for you.  The lawyer will know, of course.

Sharon...Sue...Mary...Joy...hope you're all recovering from the  rain  and winds.

Our rivers are going down and thank heavens, no more rain for a while.  "Prewinter" has arrived here...temps are 40s for highs...so out come the sweatpants and sweatshirts and shorts and capris are away.

jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  My house is chilly this morning.  I should have had Tim re-set my thermostat while he was here yesterday, but didn't think of it as it was comfortable yesterday.  Now is COLD!  I dug in my closet looking for heavier sweat shirts, but I haven't dressed yet and I'm needing to do that soon.

Mary, I lucked out with no major damage, just lots of limbs down which I've taken down to the curb for Monday pickup.  I have the feeling that our trash pick up will be late as everybody in town has the same downed limb problem that I have.  Also if I remember correctly Monday is Columbus Day this year and my trash collection will be put back until Tuesday.  I'm glad you're getting started with some  PT things you can do at home.

Jeanne, I'm glad you mentioned having your furnace checked.  I need to call my guy to come and turn mine on.  It's under my house and it's pretty damp under there now.  Tim crawled under there last week to check things out, but I need to call the furnace guy on Monday and hope he can come and get it on for me.

Sharon, I hope John had good cards and enjoyed his bridge cruise.  I'm wondering if the sea was choppy and scary on the way home.

Marilyn, thanks for updating us on Keith.  It's good your friend Darci can come and stay with him when you go to church.  It sounds like the trip to the hospital has helped.

Jane, it's much cooler here this morning and although I'm not yet dressed for the day, I've located my heavier sweatshirts and plan to wear one this morning.

I'll do a little more leaf/limb pick up this morning after I dress.  Ball games start here at 11:00, so I need to get moving.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

jane

Sue...Columbus Day was last Monday here...so assume it is the same for you.  I couldn't figure out why the bank and PO were closed...and finally saw somewhere that Oct. 8 was Columbus Day.

I hope Tim can get over and fix your thermostat.  Can you manually push the temp up until he can come and reprogram it?

jane

Hi everyone..we had floods this week..rivers finally back in banks...just beautiful..expecting a cold front tomorrow...right now it's 85..Texas weather...I think there's a 5 year..time on Medicade/deeds...etc...at least in Texas...have great weekend...Darlene

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still in P.J.'s, but need to call a friend to see if she's going to Sunday School and if she can pick me up this morning.  My usual ride has her Grandson's family here--they were down from Huntsville for the football game yesterday--which AU lost!  Our football team is not clicking on all cylinders this year.

If Ethel can't pick me up, I'll probably watch the Presbyterian Church in Montgomery on TV.  I don't have plans for this afternoon.  If Ethel does pick me up, I'll have to eat lunch at Burger King as she meets the other BK buddies there every Sunday.

It's cooler here again this morning.  My furnace came on last night for a short while.  I guess the middle of October is not too early for the furnace.  I was surprised how cool it was, though, last night.

Jane, I looked in Tim's book about turning the furnace on and figured it out.  So I was warm enough last night.  It should be a little warmer here during the day, but not like it has been.

Darlene, did you get any damage from last week's floods?  Those people in Florida lost so much last week when the Hurricane came ashore down there.  The destruction looked terrible on TV.  I hope you are OK.

I need to call Ethel to see if she can pick me up for SS and church this morning.  I'm not excited about eating lunch at BK, but will do it if that's the only way I can get to SS/church.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Good morning, Buddies,

Overcast day here...called for rain earlier, but I haven't looked today.  It's 47 here, so warmer than yesterday.

We worked outside and got the pots emptied and Ray washed them and put them away.  I still have two hanging baskets, but I'll leave those to next weekend.  I also texted the landscape people to come and cut down the garden.  We're just not up to it and I don't know what gets cut down and what doesn't.  Our lawn guy was  here and the walnut trees are finally bare....I sure hope Ray will cut those two down. They are so messy and so dangerous for walking in the yard.

Today is relax day and watching games.

We have to be in IC tomorrow for a dental appt for Ray and that'll take care of Monday!

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, I'm back from SS & church and have a load of laundry in. I did one last night and still have one to go. That's always the gift John brings back from his trips--a sack of dirty laundry!  ;D ;D

As soon as I finish lunch & checking the computer sites, I need to see what time I need to put the rib roast in. I want to eat at 5:00 because our neighbors are coming for dessert at 7. It is his birthday too and then tomorrow he goes in for a double knee replacement.  :o  The kids will be calling sometime this afternoon.

Darlene, sorry about the TX floods. Hope they didn't impact you any.

Jane, our landscaper is supposed to come tomorrow and do  all our lawn work, including putting in the new flower garden. It was chilly here this AM but supposed to get into the 70's by afternoon.

Sue, hope you get a ride to church in spite of lunch at BK.

Hi to all. Sharon

jane

A sunny, CRISP good morning to all the Bosom Babes!  High today to be mid 40s....so out with the turtlenecks and sweaters and heavier outside jacket.

Have a good Monday in your corner of the world.

jane

maryz

Lovely morning here, too.  And cool - for us - nothing like jane's 40*, but in the 60s.
I've been to PT.  This will be on Monday and Friday mornings for a few weeks.  It is for balance training and to get rid of the positional vertigo.  The therapist certainly is able to get my symptoms to show up, but so far, hasn't lessened them.  I hope this works.

I've just noticed a lovely big spider web just outside my door.  The spider is quietly waiting for her brunch, right in the center of the web.  I wonder how long it'll last.  Fun to watch.

Hugs to all the Buddies!
