Sue, I'm sure you enjoyed being back in your own SS class. One tends to form close relationships in SS.  I think you are right about Scottie and his wife. I suspect she was behind it too.  Still it was nice.

Mary, how nice to have your own gardener!  It's about 60 here or supposed to be, but a brisk breeze. We stopped at Lowes on the way home from church and I got a bunch of pansies.  I lifted the nursery pots of mums out of my pots and put the pots of pansies in 4 of my pots.  I'll have the landscaper plant the mums when he cleans out the front bed. Two of the mums are planted in a large pot, so I will take those out tomorrow when he is ready to plant. Then I will plant individual pansies around the little spruce tree in the center of my great big pot.  Two of the pots of pansies are in back and will be put in the flower bed when they get it dug up and edged.  The other big pot I may put some pansies in too, but it has a couple big things in it, so not much room. It will stay on the patio.

John has cleaned the birdbath and prepared my pots for me in back and hosed everything off and filled the bird feeders.  When he gets back in, we will have to fold some clothes I washed yesterday and pack his bag again!  He is off to another tournament in northern Charlotte about an hour or so from here, but since the games don't end till nearly 11:00 PM, he stays at a motel for the week.

We went to see "First Man" yesterday. It was really good if you are at all interested in the space program history and Neil Armstrong.  After that, we went to Bonefish Grill for Lobster & shrimp Gnocchi. YUM!

Looking forward to the landscapers coming tomorrow and will also have a guy to give us a roof repair estimate.

Nothing else going on here. Have a blessed Sunday. Sharon

jane

Our temps were like Mary’s...frost on the roof and many flowers now done for.  We walked and it was comfortable; I had on a hat to cover my ears, gloves, sweatpants and my parka...and sunglasses.

We’re doing homemade pizza tonight, and watching football.

Tomorrow is my mammo...always glad when that’s over, as are all of you, of course.

I used to hate this time of day on Sundays....it was always time to think of the week of work ahead.  One more nice thing about retirement!

Hi buddies....we finally had some sunshine today...but more rain in forecast...Are any of you taking or have taken the B/p med Amlodipine ? I have been on it a few months...having fatigue and sometimes night sweats.....I really think its side effects from it......will talk to my Dr on next visit......would like to get off it.....hope everyone had a nice weekend....Jane when do y'all come to Texas.? Hi to all Darlene

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen and when I was bringing my trash barrel back up the driveway, saw a friend who lives nearby out walking.  We chatted for a while and she had fallen and had a bleeding hand, so I brought her inside and she was able to wash her hand and I had a Band-Aid she could use.  We had a nice chat and she was off to finish her walk.  I'm waiting for Tim to come by.  My next door neighbor Sandra goes to Zumba on Monday and told me she'd take me if I wanted to go--but I think Tim will be here about that time and we have some paper work that we need to take care of this morning.

I'm planning on more leaf clean up this morning.  I have bridge and lunch at Azalea place tomorrow and bridge at Sara's home on Wednesday, so this will be a busy week.  If Sandra does show up after Tim is here, I'll go to Zumba with her and ask her to take me by Kroger for the Shingles shot.

Jane, good luck with the Mammo today.  I always feel so much better when the tech tells me that all is clear on my mammo!

Mary, your daughters are certainly a blessing for you.  I know you are glad they are able to visit often and help out.  Just being with them must be a great treat.

Darlene, I don't take BP meds, but I agree that you should talk to your doctor about the meds and see if he can switch you to something that is better for you.  Fatigue and night sweats are pretty tough to deal with.  If I don't get what I consider a good night's sleep, I don't function very well during the next day.

Sharon, I was in the hospital having had a hysterectomy when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.  I was able with Bob's help to walk down to the area where it was televised and see him plant the flag there.  That's all I really remember about that special event, though.

My major project today is to clean up more oak leaves.  I doubt that I'll finish it, but every little bit helps.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

I got up early to be dressed when the landscaper was to come, but after I was up and dressed, he called and put it off until Thursday when he could do the edging too. I am supposed to get approval on Wed.

The roofer came and it is no big deal, just leaking around a pipe that goes up through the roof and needs to have a new "boot" to seal it.

I  hope to force myself to go to computer club/Best Buy display and then to the FC.

John got off to his tournament and called and said he had arrived at the motel.

Darlene, glad things are nice now. Hope the coming rain doesn't cause more flooding.

Jane, you sound happy with the cooler temps and ability to take your walks.

Sue, you are busy, busy as usual. How on earth can you do Zumba with a brace on your leg?   I envy all of you who have children nearby.  I am in close touch with mine, but they are too far away to see often or to help us out. I'm sure looking forward to seeing them all at TG.  :) :)

Hi to all.  Happy Fall, finally.  Sharon

jane

Darlene...my husband is on Amplodipine, and he doesn't complain of night sweats, but there are a lot of BP meds out there, as others said, I'd sure ask the doc.  I'm on prednisone and I HATE the recurrence of night sweats and hot flashes, sleep issues, weight gain, etc.    We'll be coming to S. Texas at the end of Nov.  We get the condo on Dec. 1 and sometimes a day or two early if nobody there end of Nov....which they usually aren't.

Sharon...I bet you'll be glad when the landscaping is done and hurrah on easy fix for roof leak.

Sue...you have so much energy. I've only heard of Zumba, but know I wouldn't be able to do it. I'm lucky to get a mile walk in every few days.

Marilyn...I hope K recovers quickly from the anesthetic (sp?) ... Our friend with mild dementia had a heck of a time coming out of it when he had to have stents put into this legs for blockages.

I was pleased to hear that the Clinic has had the 3D mammo and that's what I had last year, too, but I didn't know it.  She said they can do 2D or 3D and some insurances don't pay for 3D.  I told her I wanted 3D.  She said she'd go check with tech who was doing mine and came back with a thumbs up to me.  It seems, she said, Medicare patients do get the 3D.  She said they are so packed with patients it'd be next week sometime before I could get in, if I get a call back after the radiologist looks at the films.

We had a beautiful day...up to 65 today, but to cool down for rest of the week.

Tomorrow we meet our Texas-IA friends for lunch in Dbq.  I think we'll go early vote tomorrow morning, too.  You never know what the weather will be like here in Nov., and this way that'll be done.

jane

Tuesday morning greetings.

I hope Marilyn was able to take K home after his surgery...or maybe today.

Easy day here....going to vote early and then off to Dbq for lunch with friends.

Hi to all Darlene

I have been taking Amlodpine for years & have had no side affects & I'm very easily affected by meds .  Because of respiratory problems I tire easily . As one of my dr.'s said I tire myself just breathing .

maryz

Nothing going on around here.  It's overcast this morning, but that may just be morning fog here in our creek valley.  It's supposed to be a lovely day - sunny with high around 70.

Duplicate last night was okay, and I think we placed in the middle somewhere.  The scores haven't been posted online yet.  My partner will be out of town next Monday, so I won't be playing then.

I hope we hear from Marilyn soon.  jane, I'm with you on voting early...something might happen to keep me from voting on election day, and I want to be sure mine counts.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been up for a while, had breakfast, dressed for bridge at Azalea Place and waiting for my cleaning ladies.  I had a call yesterday that they will be late today as they have been assigned another client and will have to clean there before coming here.  I hope they get here before 11:00 as Libba will pick me up to go to Azalea Place about 10:55.  I also hope fish will be on their menu today.  I am not fond of many meat dishes and prefer the fish.  I will have bridge tomorrow, too, at Sara's home.  I need to call Terri and ask her to pick me up for that.

I'd like to finish the Dewey Lambdin Naval novel I'm reading this morning.  I have 4 more library books I'd like to finish before Friday.  As usual our hero is in the usual trouble and now has to somehow get information from a female spy--which I'm sure he will manage!

I cleaned up a lot of fallen limbs and brush down in my back yard yesterday.  If we get more wind and rain this week, I'm sure I'll have even more to pick up back there.

Marilyn, I hope all is going well with Keith.

Have a nice day,  Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Nothing scheduled here today, so I had a slow morning.  Wouldn't you know that since I hadn't dressed early, an HOA guy came around to see what we sent in for approval.  It would be nice if they would call.  I may go across the street to the new mall they have just opened. Not all the stores are open yet, but Burlington, Hobby Lobby and some others are. I hope TJ Maxx is open but I don't think it is.

I hope Keith came through his surgery successfully and with a clear mind.

Mary, I play bridge tomorrow. Hope I get some good cards.

Sue, how was Zumba?  I can't imagine that it is something you can do with a brace, but maybe you can. You do a lot of other things I wouldn't expect.

Jane, for early voting here, we have to drive about 20 miles, so guess I will wait till voting day here in SC
Sharon

SCFSue

Just a quickie now that I'm home from bridge at Azalea Place.  I had so so cards and didn't win anything.  I ate fish for lunch, but didn't enjoy the over-cooked veggies--and I don't think they served any dessert today.  At least I didn't get any.  They usually serve ice cream.

I can't find my cane and have tried to locate it at Chik'n Salad Chik, but no one answered the phone there.  Tim will not be happy that I've lost it!  He'll be over on Friday to take me to the library, Kroger shopping, home to put up the groceries, and then out to eat lunch.  I'm going to try Chik'n Salad Chik again about 5:00.

I hope you've all had a nice day.  I hope Marilyn will come in soon to let us know how Keith is doing.

Sue

maryz

Sue, I think I have four canes.  It never hurts to get another one and keep them stashed in various places.  You could leave one in Tim's car, or in your car.

We had a great lunch with our friends in Dbq.  They may get down to the Island doe several weeks.  He really wants to come, so she’s thinking they’ll fly down for 3-4 weeks, rent a car, and stay at a Comfort Suites.  That’d be great, since it’s next door to,our complex.   She saidmit’d depend on how he’s doing in January.

Tomorrow is my bridge day.  I hope the cards are better then the last three weeks.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still in P.J.'s, but plan to do a little more leaf raking before I shower and dress for bridge this afternoon.  Terri will pick me up about 12:45.  I hope I get better cards today than I did yesterday.

I need to do some pruning of my azaleas out back, but that won't get done today.  Tomorrow is finally an at home day for me this week, so hopefully I can get started on that.  I love my yard and enjoy working in it, but sometimes, it just gets to be too much!

Jane, good luck with bridge today.  I had lousy cards yesterday and hoped for better, of course.  It is depressing when every deal leaves me with nothing worth playing!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Yep, on the bridge cards, Sue.

It's a chilly 38 right now, so guess the colder weather is here as "promised."   :tickedoff:

Ray has PT today...he feels it's really helped with his balance problems, and they say so as well, I guess.

Have a good Wednesday in your part of the world.

Marilyn

I just came to post this up[date, I will have to come back to read the  posts.

Update on Keith
He did well in surgery, it took 4 hours. The Dr. went in through the top of the bladder on down to the prostate, which was very enlarged. He removed a lot of the tissue from the inside of the prostate and sent that off to the pathology lab for testing. Keith got up to his room by 12:30 and was pretty out of it trying to get out of bed. I left at 1:30 to come home and do a few things, feed the animals etc. Went back at 3pm. He was doing much better. He carried on animated conversations with all the staff and was feeling pretty good when I left after sharing my dinner with him, He said he wasn't hungry when I ordered mine but was by the time it came, So I gave him most of mine. He is receiving saline directly to the bladder to flush it. He was still all hooked up to telemetry when I left. His cell is here at home and he doesn't want to answer the room phone. He may get to come home today IF he can pass gas.

maryz

Glad to hear from you, Marilyn, and know that all went well.  I hope that continues.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Marilyn...glad it went so well.

SharonE

I've had a busy day so just getting in here.  Marilyn, as I said on FB, I'm so glad K came through the surgery well. Hope everything continues positively.

I played bridge this morning and actually came in 2nd out of 8. Got $3 for my $1 in the pot.  I didn't have great hands but had a couple that my partner and I really matched up and I went for game which we made. That made a rubber too!

John got 5 pts yesterday, but said he plans on going to one more tournament and then just play locally. By then he should have his Ruby LM and the next level is 1500 pts more which at his age, he'll probably never get.

After bridge, I came home to feed Bunny and then went back to Pineville to return the purse I had bought last week. Found another one which was better and got that.  Then I went to the Christian book store nearby and got a large print Bible as my others are just too small of print. Also got a couple of books for the great grands..

Got home to a phone call from our broker. I had called him with a simple question and he kept me on the phone forever reviewing our finances, which I didn't need to hear.

Our edging was approved, so hopefully, our landscaper will get all his work doe tomorrow.

Nothing else going on here. Sounds like everyone is doing well.  Sharon

SharonE

Up early this AM because of landscapers. They arrived by 8:45 or 9:00 and are hard at work. It's going to look so much better.

The guy is coming to do the Fall checkup on the furnace today too.  When we got our new air conditioner, they installed a NEST thermostat. I can turn it up and down, but it is programmed to change also. When I get up, it's dropped to 62!! So I need him to reset the thing and show me how.

I have odds and ends of things to do today. Nothing earth-shaking, although, if everyone is gone earlly enough this afternoon, I will try to get to the FC.

It is really chilly here this AM. My computer says it's 45!!  Brrrr!  We've gone straight from summer through a week of Fall and now winter!!

HOpe you are all having a good day today.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, glad your landscaper finally got there - and on time!  I know it'll look lovely.  There was an interesting article in our paper this morning about how 45-50* feels much cooler now (in the early fall) than it will in February.  Our bodies take a while to adjust to the cooler temps, but once 50* is the high for the day, it'll feel "warmer".  Interesting to think about.

I actually went out to a store this morning!  (You KNOW this is big news for me!)
A new Aldi opened less than a mile from here.  I really liked Aldi, and knew I would give it a look-see at least once.  One of their specials today was avocados for $0.39 each, so I had to go to get some of those, at least.  I did get some other stuff, of course, but only as much as I could carry in my two bags.  It's a nice store - bigger and brighter than the one I had gone to before.  I may even go back sometime.  ;D
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon, and whoever is looking in.  I've had breakfast, read the paper, made a grocery list for tomorrow (we get the Kroger sales list on Thursday!), and am still in my PJ's.  I think it might rain here later today, so I need to get dressed and outside.  I have a lot of pruning, cutting back of shrubs in my front yard.  However, yesterday, I finally got the back yard tidier, so I'm giving up back there!  BTW, Tim has programed my thermostat and all I needed to do was move it to the other setting.  It has had to come on in the late afternoon a couple of rainy days, but other than that, not needed yet.

Marilyn, I'm glad Keith's surgery went well.  Although I know he must want to come home ASAP, it might be best if he could stay one more day.  Keep us posted.  Have his sons been down for the surgery?

Jane, I'm glad Ray feels the exercises are helping his balance problem.  I know it must be a worry to you and to him when he is uncertain of it.

Mary, what fun to have an Aldi near you.  I'll be looking at Avocados tomorrow, too, but I don't think they'll be 39 cents!  As far as I know, there is no Aldi's here.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Well, the furnace guy was here and has programmed my thermostat, checked the furnace, etc, and sold me a surge protector for the furnace and AC. John probably won't be happy, but it sounded like a good idea to me.

The landscapers have a lot done, but had to go pick up mulch, etc before they could finish up, also the 2 new bushes. They really did a good job pruning and edging everlything.  Lots of stuff needed to be done, much of which J & I couldn't do and the rest we didn't want to do.

Mary, hurrah on the new Aldi's. I think they may be putting a new one across the street in the new mall. I might go if they make it that convenient. I've been to another one quite a bit farther away, but not often. That's interesting about the temps seeming warmer in Feb after we have adapted to them. I seemed pretty cold today when I was outside.  The landscapers have finished everything but the 2 new bushes which they will put in on Monday.  The back looks great. I'll try to take a pic of the new garden and post it on FB.

Sue, great that your backyard is done now. Hopefully the front won't take as long.

I'm just now eating my lunch at 3:00. I don't know whether I can get myself to convinced to go to the FC later or not. I really need to. Sharon

jane

I woke up with a cold.  RATS!   Thank heavens my cleaning lady came today; I was glad it was her week to come.  I sure didn’t feel up to it, and she did a lot today.

Wisconsin nephew and wife arrive tomorrow morning.  They drove to their veterinarian son and dil’s home near Rochester, MN, and they’ll come on down tomorrow.

Jane

Marilyn

Keith is still in the hospital. He has had a terrible time with constipation. They have given him  some different kinds of meds to help him go but nothing has happened. I am praying for fully functioning results so he can come home today.

maryz

Marilyn, I hope everything "works" soon, but in the meantime, it's certainly best he remains in the hospital.  Hugs!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

I hope K has results and is able to come home soon. The anesthetic often slows everything down.

Jane, so sorry you have a cold but great that your cleaning girl was there to get ready for guests. Hope you feel better soon and that you are able to enjoy your guests in spite of it.

We have a rainy, cold day here.  The 2nd roofer was to come but probably will put off till tomorrow. I've also called the computer gurus to fix a bunch of problems here. I hope to hear from them today.

I posted pics of our landscaping from yesterday on FB, so if you do FB, check it out.  It is my original FB site: Sherry Fordyce Ede.

Hi to Mary and Sue and whoever pops in.  Sharon

SCFSue

#5848
Good morning, Buddies.  Tim was here about 10:00 and we went to the library and Kroger.  Home to put the groceries away and then to Niffers to meet Kris for lunch.  I had my usual BLT and I forget what they had.  I think Tim had loaded potato soup and a salad, but I don't know about Kris.  It's still drizzling here and I'll be inside the rest of the day unless it clears up.  I have one section of the front yard that needs lots of pruning.

I only got 2 books at the library.  I had bridge 2 afternoons last week and that cut down on my reading.  I still have a couple of books from last week I need to finish.  As soon as I finish my S&F forums, I'll start a library book I didn't return this morning.  I had bridge games 2 afternoons this week and that cut into my reading time.

Jane, I'm sorry about your cold showing up just as you are expecting your Nephew and his wife.  What are you taking for the symptoms?  I hope you can sleep well and take it as easy as you can with company visiting.

Marilyn, I also hope Keith can come home, if not today, certainly soon.  It's tough to schedule hospital visits when you have a busy schedule--and I guess he'd be pretty distressed if you didn't get there to visit.  Have his sons visited him at the hospital?

Mary, is it raining up your way?  When Tim arrived this morning, I'd been slow at eating breakfast, cleaning the kitchen, and getting dressed.  I rushed around getting dressed--then we went to the library to turn in some books and get a couple more.  We went to Kroger next, then home to put the groceries away, then to Niffers to meet Kris for lunch.

Sharon, I hope the second roofer shows up soon and has a good price for the work you need to do.  You may remember that we had a bad storm last year and I had to have the entire roof replaced.  Tim had a roofer friend who gave me the "mother-in-law" price and I only had to pay $10,000.  The men who cut down the neighbor's tree which fell on my roof charged me $2500 to remove the parts that fell on the roof and Tim did some repair on the gutters where it fell.  I think because there were so many homes needing repairs that the men who cleared my roof took advantage of the crisis for many of us.

Hello to every Buddy looking in and to those who are missing today.
Sue

Marilyn

Another update on Keith. He is coming home from the hospital tomorrow (Sunday). Dr. has told me that he has a strong heart and the medical staff at the hospital as well as the Dr's are amazed at his amazing lung capacity. His memory loss has not increased. He has lost some weight in the hospital, it has been hard for him to eat there being in pain and nausea from the medication. They changed the antibiotic, nausea is gone but he had terrible hiccups for along while yesterday. His appetite returned in the after noon and he is eating well now.

Sue no one has visit3d Keith in the hospital except me and our pastor. I am so looking forward to having him home.

Sherry  I think that now the infection is gone he  is less confused than he was before going to the hospital. I am glad he will be there until the catheter is removed, that  will be so much more comfortable for him to come home without it. He has been worried about me being here alone, he called last night ansd we talked for a long time, I reassured him that I am fine and I am here at home and will not be leavin ghim, he is stuck with me for life.  ;D
