Morning!  32 degrees here!

I’m ok with some of the election results, unhappy with others, like everybody else, I guess.

I’m delighted to see so many women win.

Off to bridge at the new place.  This is my last time before we head to Texas, since we have a doc appt next Wed. In Iowa City.

Hopefully the robocalls will stop now!

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm not happy with the election results  in Alabama, but I did my best to vote for the ones I thought should be elected.  Tim took me to the cardiologist's office for a check on my pace maker and that went well--and only a short wait, too.  Then he took me to vote, but I might as well stayed home.  Every Republican on the ballot was re-elected, including our district's Congressman who says he is supportive of military veterans, but I receive the MOAA (Military Officers of America) magazine and they publish the votes of all members of Congress on military matters and that sucker puts his name on the bill, then fails to show up for the vote!  I've sent him numerous letters since moving here and he always sends a letter (which he didn't write!) telling me he agrees with me--and never once has voted as he should!!!  And he was overwhelmingly re-elected.  Once I received 2 letters from him in a day--and one said he agreed with me and would vote as I suggested and the other said he could not vote for that bill.  Alabama is wasting good money in sending that SOB back to Congress.

I imagine that the veterans and their families who continue to vote for him don't know his real record of voting.  The MOAA magazine lists the senators and members of congress who do vote on military matters--and he and Senator Shelby often decline to vote!

Enough ranting for today!  Sorry about this, my friends.  It rained again last night and everything outside is wet.  I need to get dressed and go outside to do some more azalea pruning.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Miserable cards today, and so I said goodbye to my group and will see them again in March.  A lady who used to play with us was in the restaurant, so we all got to visit with her.  She’s 90 now, and had recent surgery for a returning cancer, but she looked good.

Good cold Thursday!  Snow expected today and tomorrow.  Brrrrr!

Nothing much on my schedule...need to take my car for servicing at 3:00, but it’s here in town so an easy trip.

Keith seems to be doing a little bit better every day, Although as the day progresses, his memory seems to get worse, the next morning he seems OK again. Late yesterday afternoon he ask if we were married On the phone last night he called me by Fisher instead of Riley and when did we get married.. Said he was working on getting a few things cleaned up.(Not) He right hand is shaking so bad we are feeding him. He got a blood transfusion yesterday and may get another. It is so difficult to see my soul mate fading away,

jane

Hang on, Marilyn, and take care of YOU.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  Marilyn, this is a tough time for you and Keith.  You've had a good marriage and I know it's hard to see him declining.  Thoughts and prayers from here for both of you and your families.  I know that his sons have been very supportive of you.

Jane, I hope you and Ray both are feeling well again and know you are looking forward to your winter home at the beach.  Have a safe trip and let us know how you are doing.

I hope to get a few neglected chores done inside today.  Other than that I'll probably read after lunch.  I had a phone call from a young lady at U. of South Carolina this morning.  She will be visiting here in December and wants to stop by.  Of course she'll be wanting me to make a donation to Carolina.  I do contribute annually, but not in a large amount and when I am unable to do that on my own, they won't get anymore.  Tim is worried about the time when I might have to go into an assisted living or nursing home.  We're trying to make it easy for me to stay here as long as possible.

It rained again last night (a lot!) and everything is wet outside.  I may have to put on my rubber boots if I go out to prune more azaleas.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Marilyn, "sundowning" is not unusual in folks with Alzheimer's.  Doesn't make it any easier, of course.  It is so hard to see the person you love fading away.  Hugs!

Sorry about the snow, jane.  Sounds like you're heading south just in time.  Our weather guy is predicting a harder winter than we had last year, and it's supposed to be down near freezing this weekend.  Even that would be nothing like what you have in Iowa, though.

Like you, Sue, I make donations to those entities (all local organizations) that I wish to support, but the girls will do what they like when I leave it to them.

I had a carotid doppler test yesterday morning, but haven't heard anything about results yet.  Went to PT this morning, and will maybe play bridge here after supper.

Happy Thursday, Buddies!

Mary, I'm glad the damage wasn't to Margaret's property, but I know you all feel bad for Jesse's in-laws.  Tornadoes are scary. I grew up with plenty of them in IN, but fortunately was never personally impacted.  I read that there were a lot of them on the storm line running from FL up to TN.

I see I didn't post yesterday.  I had to take John to the eye dr's. His first eye will be done 11/27 and the 2nd on 12/17. It really scares me because of the fact he only has 8% vision in one eye, so the other eye is critical that it's done right. He also has serious glaucoma and beginning macular degeneration.  That is one reason he wants to go to NZ this year while he can still see it and appreciate it.  If he ever loses his vision completely or almost, I don't know what he'll do. His hobby is bridge and he also reads and watches TV a lot, all of which take eyesight.   But it is in God's hands and we can't do anything about it.

I'm about ready to go to the grocery.  I took Tim Tebow's book back. It just seemed too repetitive.  I took out THE CHRISTMAS BOX which is our Dec book club book. I've heard of it, but haven't started yet. Has anyone read it?

John and our neighbor got our garage surround edging replaced yesterday and it looks great. The neighbor told us that it could be replaced and that he would help us. He is a jack-of-all-trades and has lots of tools, even an electric nailer!

Well, I better get moving. Hi to all.  Sharon

jane

Sharon...I didn’t realize John’s eyesight was in such a precarious situation.  That’s got to be so scary for him and you.

A SNOWY Friday greeting!  Yep, snow on the ground and the roads!  Weatherguessers said this was the earliest we’ve had an accumulated snow in some years.  It’s quite pretty out there, but could be a long winter for those who stay here for the next 4 months.   ;D

We’re going to start checking out our “Texas” tote and see what needs to be added to it.

Have a safe Friday.

Jane

Glad you're getting ready, jane.

Lots of rain here this morning - heavy when it first started about 7.  It's down to a drizzle, now, though.  We're supposed to be about 30 this morning, so that'll take care of any plants left outside. I just check the results of my Doppler test - and that was all normal.  Got an "attagirl" from my doc.  Nothing going on around here until going back to PT on Monday morning.  Lots of knitting will be done.

Happy Weekend, Buddies!

Good morning, Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I've had breakfast and have the dishwasher running now.  I'm expecting Tim around 10:00-10:30.  We'll go to the library and then to Kroger.  We come home so I can put the groceries away and then out to lunch.  Kris eats with us at Niffer's if she is not working a painting job.

I'm already making plans for my trip to the beach with Stacey, Jon, Alex, and Nic.  I am buying sweet potatoes this morning and will take them with me to the beach so that I can make a sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving dinner.

My  women's basketball tickets have been here for a while.  I finally checked them and see that I've already missed 3 pre-season games.  I gave my tickets to Tim for the Sunday, Nov. 25.  He and Kris will use them if all goes well with the weather or their other activities.   I should be on my way back home from the beach on that day--but Stacie will be bringing me and Alex back and we'll probably take him back to Birmingham on the 25th.  I think Stacie will bring me home and spend the night here before going back to N.O., but don't know that for sure.

Jane, good luck with the packing.  I hope the snow doesn't hinder your travel plans.  I know you'll be glad to get settled at the beach!

Mary, we had lots of rain yesterday and everything is still wet outside.  I think it may rain again today, but I haven't  checked the weather channel this morning.  Way to go on the Doppler test!  I got out some of my knitting books last night, thinking I might like to knit a few caps and/or mittens/gloves for Alex and Nic.  I don't know if they'll wear them or not.  Young men seem to like to tough it out!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Jane, yes, I've always worried about John's eyesight and now even more, however, the dr says there should be no problem with removing the cataracts. From his mouth to God's ears, as they say.   SNOW???!!!  OH NO!  When do you leave for TX? Are you going to OH first for Christmas?

Mary, such good news about the carotid scan!  Lots of rain here too.  Have fun knitting.  I would have to take Valium to do much of that!!

Sue, have a nice outing with Tim and then lunch with Kris.  I'm sure you're looking forward to your trip to the beach and to spending time with the boys.  I think I would ask them if they would wear what you knitted before I spent time on it. Or at least, tell them to donate them if they don't.

Today's my day! I told John not to ask me to do one thing because he's kept me busy all week.  His NZ air reservations are made and they honored their promise to give him an extra hotel day, so he's arriving a day early. That way, if there are any glitches or lost luggage, there's more of a chance for a remedy.  The landscaper called and said they would bring my 2 bushes early next week.  Once that's done, I can call HOA for a re-inspection.

I do have a load of laundry in, but nothing else scheduled.  Sharon

jane

Enjoy YOUR day, Sharon!  Easy one here, too.  Plumber came about the heater in our family room, and he's going to research to see if he can find the part it needs.  No name on it, just a patent number.

I did two loads of laundry this morning, so that's all done, and I put the oven on self-clean. I like to do that when it's cold outside. They're saying we may get to 10° or 11° tonight.  Double BRRR

Good thinking on the extra day in the hotel...so many things can go astray with luggage and it'll give him a day to rest up there and get his body somewhat re-oriented.

jane

SharonE

Brrrr, Jane!  And I thought 50 was cold today!  Yes, the day early makes the trip much more stress free.  Good idea on the oven. I may go do mine. Hope your guy finds the part for the heater. Sounds like you need it.  Sharon

Our FIRST cold snap of the year------a cold 45 now , going down to 43---had to
turn on the heat this A.M.  One good thing for living in a Senior Living Facility is
that you don't have to go out for any thing---it's all right here-  Of course if you have to see the doc you have go out.  Colder for later this week. ::)

Good morning, Buddies.  It's pretty chilly here this morning.  I'm still in my P.Js, but will get dressed shortly.  The wind is blowing and the temperature is way down--but not to the freeze level.  I don't think I'll do much outside today.  Lots of football games to watch, so will do that and read.  Tim told me to search for a library book that he thinks I've misplaced, but I'm pretty sure I returned it.  I'll have to ask the library to check again.   I have a place where I keep the books I check out and when I've finished reading a book, I always put it back into the bag I use to tote books to and from the library.

Sharon, I don't think the removal of John's cataracts will be a problem.  I had mine done about 10 years ago and my vision has been great ever since.  My eye doctor removed the first one week and the second the next.  He was taking a family vacation to Europe the week following my surgery and wanted to get that done before he left.  John will be amazed at the difference in his vision--and I think very pleased.

Jane, it sounds as if you are well organized for your trip.  I hope the weather is mild for the trek and you'll have good weather for each day down to the beach.

Joy, I usually spend lots of mornings outside puttering around, but am going to stay inside today.  Just too windy and chilly to be working out there--And I have done most of what has to be done anyway.

Have a nice weekend, Buddies.

Gorgeous morning - blue skies, light breeze.  But...31* when I got up!!! It turned winter in a hurry here - sort of like jane's (without the snow).  :2funny:
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

I bet I beat you ALL this morning.  12° this morning!!  YEP...it really motivates us to start packing up for Island Time! :2funny:

We were up and out early ...for us...on a Saturday morning. Ray wanted us to stop in at the Legion for coffee and pastries, so we were there by about 7:30 and chatted with some folks and then we walked down to the local cafe for breakfast.  They've sold the restaurant as they wanted to do, so that's good news for them.

We were back home before 9:00 am!! Whew...have sheets in the washer and have brought a few more things down to be packed, and now going to do some family bookkeeping and then read for a while while the washer does its thing.

Good morning...a cool 45 here this morning...As I mentioned a few days ago..trying the different BP med Losartan potassium..Dr prescribed 50mg...could start out with half tab...which I did...not dropping it much...so will have to take the 50mg..starting today..the Amlodipine 5mg..worked real good...but I seemed to have brain fog and flushing on it...may be the same with the new med...I don't think the Dr believes me..he says flushing and foggy is not a side effect...just got back from walking...at least the wind wasn't blowing...have a great weekend...Darlene

SharonE

Cold here too this morning. High of 52 and a frost predicted for tonight!

Joy, I didn't know BR got that cool, but you're right that it's nice to be able to stay in and be able to do what you need to without going out.

Sue, enjoy your games. Hope you find your book.

Darlene, I hope the new med works and doesn't have any side effects for you.  I guess the cold front is hitting us all.

Jane, you and Ray are really early birds to do all that by 9 AM.

Mary, sounds like your plants have had it.  Enjoy staying in today.

I cleaned our bath and did a bunch of stuff on J's computer.  He must have the weirdest email program in the world. I think I may have him convinced to get a GMail account, but then I'll have to teach him all of that.

I'm going to try to convince myself to go to the FC in a bit after I finish my lunch.  Almost all our leaves our down now. The HOA landscapers blew a lot of them into the street and sucked them up on Thursday, but then it rained all day Friday, so lots more are down.

Stay warm.  Sharon

Darlene...I don’t know how long you’ve been on losartan, but I found this...
“Losartan starts to reduce high blood pressure after about 6 hours but it may take 3 to 6 weeks to fully take effect.”

https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/losartan/

That’s from the British National Health Service.

WebMD has info too, but I couldn’t get the exact link.

Jane I have only been on it about a week....how often do you check your B/p ? I think worrying about it  isn't good....probably raises it...the information was helpful....Thank you Darlene

jane

I don’t check mine at home anymore.  It just raised it.  I think I got fixated on it, and that sent it high.  I also hate that too many medical staff don’t take it properly.  Your arm should be at heart level and they should be supporting it.  Too many let my arm dangle and so, I pull my knee up when on the exam table and put my arm on my knee.  Not ideal, but better than the “dangling arm” approach.

so_P_bubble

I used to do it daily and that made it rise as well.  My doctor told me that once  every week or every two weeks is more than adequate.

SharonE

I'm so glad that high BP isn't one of my problems. I have enough others, heaven knows.  I do take Coreg for my heart and that is a Beta blocker and so lowers BP too, but mine has always been low.  The only good # on my health sheet! :)

Bubble, is there anyway I can click on BB and go straight to my last post.  Since my crash and your getting me re-registered, it takes me to a page to click on Forum and then I have to scroll down to medical to find BB.  It's certainly doable, but like most people, the least effort possible is what I want. Is that lazy or what?

We've been to SS & church and then stopped at the Wal-Mart market and bought a bunch of staples & cangoods for Harvest Sunday next week.  Everyone brings in food to go to the local Food Pantry for those in need, especially for TG.

Since I've been home, I've put in 2 loads of laundry, called John's sister (as we do every Sunday since she was moved to Iowa). With her husband in a nursing home, she's lonesome.

It's supposed to rain here for the next 2 days & stay cold.  My church friend is coming on Wed if it's not raining to plant my daffodil bulbs for me. So nice of her and she is probably 70 herself, but she loves to garden and has a big vegetable garden.

Nothing else going on here.  I did get to the FC yesterday and hope to again tomorrow.  Hi to all. Have a nice evening. Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I go to the top of the page and click where it says "Show new replies to your post".  It'll show the last posts of every discussion you've posted in.  When you've looked at all of them, mark that page as your "favorite", so it'll take you back there.  Maybe jane or Bubble can explain it better.

I'm in Kentucky tonight.  Kate called me about noon to tell me that her husband, Wayne, had had a heart attack and that "it didn't look good".  She called about an hour later to say he had died.  We're just all in shock.  Margaret came to get me, and then drove me up here.  We're staying in a motel - at least for a couple of nights.  Jean is here, too.  Kate said he was fine this morning and had gone out for a while.  When he came back, she found him passed out on in front of the house.
He roused up and came in for a few minutes.  They headed back out to the car so she could take him to the ER, when he collapsed on the driveway.  She and a neighbor gave him CPR, then the EMTs, the ambulance folks, and in the ER. She said they never were able to get a pulse.  So it was obviously very quick.  Such a shock.  She said they had talked about end-of-life things recently, so she knew his wishes.  He's to  be cremated, and there won't be any service.  Margaret will probably go home on Tuesday.  She'll either take me home, too, or leave me - depending on Kate's wishes.  Send us good thoughts.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Mary, what sad news--and I know it must have been a shock to Kate and your entire family.  I am so sorry and I am sending you good thoughts.  Does Kate have children nearby?  Thoughts and prayers for her and all of you.

It is pouring rain here this morning and I'm still in my P.J.'s.  Bonney and I had planned to go to the Veterans Park this morning for a memorial service for veterans, but I haven't talked to her yet and am sure we won't be going.  Unless we go to the City Recreation Center where they usually have light snacks following the memorial service.   I'm sure she'll call shortly and we'll decide what to do.

I'm not expecting Tim this morning as I told him I wouldn't be here so I'll probably spend most of the time today reading a library book.  However, according to the library I still have a book that I took out several weeks ago.  I can't find it, so may have to pay to replace the book.  I have a certain place I keep the books I check out and it isn't there!  I'm hoping the library has the book now.

Not much else to report except that it's going to be a depressing, dark and dreary day here.  Have a nice day, Buddies.

Sue

Good morning...Mary..sad news..hugs..we have a cold norther this morning..so not walking..Jane...I sent you pm.....hope everyone has a grea day..stay healthy and warm Darlene

jane

Mary....I’m so sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing.

Darlene....I didn’t get the pm.  Please send it again.

We have light snow this morning, and I’m moving very slowly.

Sue...check the bookshelves at the Library yourself for the missing book.  Sometimes they don’t scan it right when you return something.  They should check their shelves before sending out notices, but sometimes the aides don’t like doing that and skip that step!

Sharon...I’m hoping to be as faithful as you are about working out once we get to TX and I can walk outside and use the workout room they have,  it’s much larger and nicer than the small one at the other complex where we were. This weight gain from the prednisone has me in a muddle.  My clothes don’t fit, and I’m huffing and puffing when doing stairs.

Have a good Monday, Ladies.
