Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Thank you for your concerns.  Only damage I've heard of is to trees and some farm sheds and some roofs lost shingles.  It could have been a lot worse here, as it was in other parts of the state.

Quiet day here, wind-wise, and that's a pleasant relief.

Hospitals in CR cancelling all "non emergency" surgeries...they're so full of covid.   :-[

Marilyn

Good Morning. Jeannie and I are going to lunch today at the Sushi Spot  downtown. Nothing  new here today. Glad you are safe Jane.

maryz

jane, do you have access to Consumer Report to check on various brands of the medic alert buttons?  Just a thought...

jane

Good thought, Mary.  I may have digital access through the library.

Marilyn...enjoy your lunch out.

Quiet day here.  Started packing, got my motel reservation for Monday night, and not doing much else.  Gary and Kathy are coming up for some holiday "cheer" tonight.

Hi Gals, Sorry I've been AWOL. Just busy. Got all the Christmas cards out last weekend, had my eyes tested Mon, will get new glasses sometime soon, played bridge Tues and then went to the funeral visitation in the early evening. Then we had dinner at Outback on the way home, since we had missed it here. Thurs evening we had a friend over for cheese and salmon and wine. Was a nice evening. Had smoked salmon left so decided Sun's dinner should be salmon salad, so had to go to the grocery to get salad stuff. Since I cook so little I don't buy salad makings unless I'm planning to have it right away. Today has been laundry day and Monday will be Bunny's recheck at the vet's. She is still acting funny about her food.

Jane, I'm glad you are safe and getting organized for your trip. I wouldn't advise a medical alert thing that has to be charged. Mine had a plug in monitor that the necklace communicated with. It's so easy to forget to charge something or at least it is for me. Have a safe trip and a merry Christmas with your family.

Mary, Have a wonderful time at the wedding and don't tire yourself out too much. Safe trip and Merry Christmas!

Marilyn, you may be right about the Australian Shepherd. She's beautiful. I'm sorry the concert wasn't better. I can't imagine not playing Christmas music in December.

Patricia, thanks for sharing the picture. Sure looks cold though.

Darlene, what's the word on Johnny?

Regarding racism against all ethnicities here in the US, as you know Melanie is married to a Korean and her daughter to a Chinese man, both US citizens, but they have experienced slurs and slights and so have their families. Even our granddaughter.  It's sad.

Take care, stay safe and have a very happy holiday if you aren't back in here before then.   Sharon

Darlene, keep us posted about Johnny - I know how worried you are. Even so, enjoy your time with your kids.

Have a safe trip, jane.

I hate those problems for your family, Sharon. She's never mentioned it, but I'm sure our Alison has experienced some of that with her foster kids, too. Really makes mw want to knock heads sometime.

I'm at Barnsley Gardens in north Georgia for Paul (grandson) and Katherine's wedding. It's been a lovely couple of days, except for being BRRR cold (not for Patricia, but 43*, windy and spitting rain is REALLY uncomfortable). Lots of the photographs were taken outside, too. I may warm up in a day or two.  :)  But the couple is lovely. We're meeting her family for the first time (they're from the DC area), and they are really nice. Alison will be taking me back home on Tuesday.  I know I never could have made it, though, without the wheelchair. I was in it most of the day today.  I'm so glad Margaret suggested my getting one for just such an occasion.

Safe travels, Buddiess!

6.1 Earthquae hit right after 12 noon  9* Klicks off the coast of Petrolia  not too far south of us. It sure jolted. The warning came on my phone but it hit before I could get out of my chair. Scared the heck out of the dogs.

Working on Christmas; stuff like that.  I think I hate you, Sharon!  Seriously.  I still have half of my Christmas cards to do.  Hope to get to some more tonight.  It is slow going at my age, though.

I had one of those skin cancers removed.  I cannot see my ear where it was done, but Chip, who is following directions and taking daily care of the area, says they took away quite a bit of my left ear, but that it must be going to grow back.  Not the Basal Cell cancer, necessarily, but the ear.

And I went and had a valve replaced in my heart.  An aorta. Was in the Washington Hospital Center for several days.  Now I have a plastic card on me at all times that tells anyone that I have a gadget in my heart and gives a number that tells all about it and gives it an exclusive number.  So I am beyond way behind with Christmas.

maryz

Wow, Marilyn. I haven't heard any new since Friday, so hadn't heard about your earthquake. Mother Nature has really been busy lately. I'm glad you didn't have any damage.

I got back home today. Granddaughter Alison (lives in Annapolis) drove me home and is staying with Margaret tonight. I was having a tough time. I had gotten so cold during the picture taking (outside, windy, temp in the 30s), plus overdoing. I was shaking and having heavy breathing, and SO tired. Margaret and Alison brought me back to my place, and once getting in MY chair, and covered up, I spent the whole afternoon sleeping on and off, mostly on. By about 6, I was feeling back to my usual self. All in all the weekend was tough on me. But it was a lovely wedding, and we all really liked the bride's family. So I'm back home, and getting ready for my usual routine. I've even had a negative COVID test.

MaryPage, I've got one of those cards, too, with my numbered valves (2).. I've got a card for my pacemaker, too.

I'm sure we'll get back to posting more after the holidays.

...Major Winter Storm Likely Late This Weekend...

Confidence is growing regarding a strong weather front that will push east across northern Alaska, posing another significant winter storm threat for the Interior beginning on Sunday and lasting into early next week. Heavy snow, significant blowing and drifting snow, and strong winds are the likely widespread hazards during this time period across the Interior.

Residents should take proper precautions to ensure safety in preparation for any holiday travel over the weekend. Stay tuned to www.weather.gov/fairbanks as we continue to monitor changes to the outlook throughout the weekend.

Marilyn

Patricia why are you couch surfing. Did you lose your apartment?

patricia19

No, Marilyn, I should have picked a better metaphor. I'm sorry to have confused you.

I commented on the unusual new rounds of heavy snow and rainstorm alerts that keep coming. I live in a dry arctic climate that rarely sees much snow because there is little to no humidity in winter, and you need humidity for snow.

Conditions are such that I'm glad to stay home on my couch with my computer.

maryz

They moved the changes around and I had trouble finding the enlargemene. Hope this world/
This past weekend was wonderful, but obviously did a number on me. Trouble breathing, shakes and chills, non appetite ver6 weak. Nagative COVID test, no fever. Hunkering down, and doctor appointment on Tuesday. Will check in when able. Happy Holiday.

MaryPage

Oh My, Dear Mary!  I do know how that is, because that is precisely the way overdoing it lands on me.  Take it easy.  Be the old lady in the easy chair from now on.  Let Other People jump up and fetch and carry.  You are the Matriarch!!!

I only got as far as the Rs with my Christmas cards.  Will settle down and try to get some more done before this beautiful day is over.  And a beautiful day it has been here on the gorgeous Chesapeake Bay.  Look up Annapolis, Maryland!  See us?  Merry Christmas to you!

Chip has run in for a nap before coming out and cooking our Christmas Eve Dinner.  We are not being at all observant this year.  We are having a favorite, as opposed to a traditional, this year.  Our dessert is what is to me the greatest, grandest dessert on the face of this planet:  chocolate eclairs!  Woo hoo!  Have adored them since I was about three and my great grandmother would take me to tea rooms.  Ah, memories!

The hospital reported me tip-top.  The old heart is pumping along magnificently with its new fixings.  Also, the ear is recuperating nicely from the Basil Cell Carcinoma it just had removed.  I cannot see into my own ear, so Chip is following all of the accompanying instructions.  He reports no blood last night for the first time.  Progress!  He also says a goodly portion of said left ear is now gone, but the healing process is remarkable.  I like remarkable.

Merry Christmas to all, and to All, A good night!

jane

Merry Christmas from wet Ohio.  It's in the 50s, so no fear of ice.

Take it easy, Mary.  I, too, don't react well to lots of crowds and activity.

Stay safe!

jane

patricia19

Mary, I agree and hope you're feeling better with some rest in your chair!

jane

Our Maryz asked me to post the following:
I'm in our local hospital, ICU. Difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, dehydration. Too much activity last weekend, I guess. May go home or to rehab tomorrow.

I am so sorry to hear about Mary and hope she has a straightforward and successful recovery. Perhaps a good rest will be all she needs?

Due to warmer weather and climate change, we're still having several freezing rains and almost continuous snowstorms. It's very unusual here as our first and only wintry ice storm was in 2013. We're ordinarily dry with little snow. We had a city bus go off the road on Friday afternoon, and luckily no one was hurt. Between the odd weather and steadily increasing Covid with both Delta and Omicron cases, it's worse than December 2020.

Other than last night and today, the snow equipment has been working nonstop with little to show for it. I imagine that those with homes in the foothills or on the lower slopes are effectively locked in place for the foreseeable future. These storms are said to continue into January.

SharonE

I'm so sorry to hear Mary is in the hospital. I hope they can hydrate her and get her back to normal quickly. It is hard for us when we overdo, although I'm sure she enjoyed every minute of the wedding except for the cold.

Patricia I hope your weather returns to normal soon. If you're not used to all that snow and sleet and ice, it is treacherous. Stay safe and on your couch!

Jane, I'm glad you are safely in Ohio and enjoying Christmas with the family. Have a safe trip home.

Marilyn, I'm sorry to hear about your earthequake. I presume no damage was done.  BTW, I asked about the service dog I was talking about and she is half Great Pyrenees and half Andalusian Shepherd.

Darlene, hope you have a good family Christmas.

We went to Christmas Eve services last night and then out to dinner. Nice. Today, we had a nice dinner in the dining hall with our villa neighbors and tonight are just snacking. We've heard from all the kids and a grandson. Granddaughter to call in a couple days when things calm down. Lori is in Costa Rica but called us before she left and messaged today. So a nice Christmas for us other than not having any family close by.

Stay safe everyone and have a wonderful, healthy, happy 2022!  Sharon

Marilyn

Storm here is very bad. It sounds terrible. I hope everyone driving is sae.

Keith wandered out of the house after midnight, The next door neighbor brought him home just after 23. I need to get dome knid of device that can locate him. GPS tracker would work fine.

SharonE

Marilyn, contact the Alz. Assoc. I'm sure they can advise you on the kind of device to get and where it is available. I know it must be scary.

Our weather was 75 or so yesterday, and supposed to be low 70's today. Not typical Christmas weather, but nice.

Mary Page, your mention of an eclair for dessert brought back memories of the one I had in Paris which was chock full of chocolate ganache. It was to die for!

I had a major digestive upset Christmas night. Not sure why, but was in the bathroom a lot and not feeling well, so didn't attend church yesterday. Okay today, except for my back. I weighed this morning and had lost 3 lbs or so! Hope I can keep them off.

Not much more going on here. Hi to everyone I didn't mention. Sharon

Cottoncandy
