Rainy Friday here and cooler...a good thing.

Got to the hospital for a blood draw at 7:30 am.  Came home and got some breakfast and then down to local appliance store and bought a new fridge and scheduled one of their workmen to come out on Wed. and try to fix my dishwasher.

Just lucky to have him find me a fridge without the dispenser stuff in the door.    Hope to have it middle of next week.  He has to get it from Wisconsin.

I've been busy with mid-year and summer-end paperwork, had my houseguest return to her home, and did a massive clean, declutter, and toss for the yearly apartment inspection ahead of next month's visit by the head honchos from the state capital.

We've had record climate events last winter and this summer. This summer alone, we had as a state three million acres burnt, sinkholes, flooding, and 67,000 lightning strikes in July alone that caused seven new blazes. And a frost in early August. A recent phenomenon is that the sea ice is disappearing due to climate change, and polar bears have more miscarriages. One of the results is that polar bears are remaining ashore and mating with grizzlies; we're seeing a tenfold increase in hybrids. Two of the largest and most dangerous bears are getting together and creating an entirely new species.

jane

YIKES, Patricia on the new Grizzly-Polar Bears.  It sounds as if you're ready for your inspection.

It's a quiet Saturday morning here, but the "car cruise"...old/restored cars parade is later today and my neighbors may come up.  I usually have snacks out for them, but not so much this year.  Maybe those who come to sit on my porch/lawn to watch the parade will bring their own snacks.

That sounds interesting, Jane. We have something similar in July when we have Golden Days, a celebration of our beginnings as a gold camp and trading post during the gold rush in the early nineteen hundreds. We see some older cars in the parade, and also during that week, they park them in a parking lot up and across from my building. I usually go and putter around looking at them and seeing the parade and the yellow duckie race on the river. This year, I stayed home instead.

How old are "the old cars ?"   I think I have mentioned we have 3 Model T Fords & take part in parades .
My sister sent me a message on facebook this morning that she will be having pace maker surgery on Tuesday .  It seems she has been fainting & has breathing problems .   Then later another message to tell me Tuesday is our Mom's birthday !  Mom passed in 1997 .

The cars range from the nineteen seventies back to the model Ts. They also feature multiple older motorcycles. There are also bicycles with substantial front wheels, ones you pedal side by side, and some unique bikes, cars, and motorcycles made out of old automotive parts scrounged by settlers coming into the Interior during the gold rush and during the copper mining heydays.

The automotive club is enormous here and always draws a crowd. Owners bring lawn chairs and coolers, and after making it through the Golden Days parade, they park and settle in for the "lookie-Loos."  The whole routine is repeated during the state fair at the end of August and other club events during the year.

There is also a large dirt/mud racing community with its track and set up about twenty miles out of town, as well as a corresponding motorcycle racing and older models community. Then you have the boat racing aficionados. With an average age of thirty per the record keepers and five close military bases, interest is huge.

alpiner1

patricia19....I wish we had some thing similar here .  Our car club used to go to the San Diego County Fair &  had a horseless rodeo in a dirt arena .   We weren't invited to return this year .

patricia19

It's because the medium age is thirty for the state due to the heavy military presence and overwhelmingly male. It was once said that there were ten males for every female just a few years ago, so we have a preponderance of every sport imaginable and acres to do it in.

Perhaps your organization could mount a committee to look into developing your own area?

Good morning....just checking in ..almost ready for church...we got maybe a half inch of rain....so it's a little cooler...hope everyone reading has wonderful safe day.....

jane

Afternoon, Buddies.

Hi to Alpiner, Patricia, and Darlene and everybody else looking in.

An achy everywhere day, including the ankle.  Going to do basically ZERO and let the body catch up.

jane

maryz

jane, hope your "veg out" day works out.

Darlene, glad you got a little rain - always needed in your place.

alpiner and Patricia, your local festivals sound like fun.

Nothing exciting around here. My 5th (and last) Covid test was negative yesterday. So I guess I "escaped" exposure this time.

Happy midAugust to all the Buddies!

Another hot day .  Thunder clouds are hovering , so far no rain .  There is a local reservoir visible from the freeway & where the water has receded are mounds of rocks .
This morning I thought a water pipe had broken in our front yard ,  There were streams of water , I called to my husband to come look .   An emitter came out on a drip system line  , then I found another line where an animal had chewed on it .

SharonE

Hi Gals, I'm finally back in. We're doing fine and it's cooled off a bit, so I got a walk in Saturday and today. Was hurting too bad yesterday. We've had lots of storms here or the past month, but nothing severe. They've all been pretty short too. We've certainly made up our deficit from last year.

Melanie did okay with 2nd infusion, but drug is wearing off for the pain in her pelvis/hip, so she hopes the next one will take care of it. She has her CT scan the 23rd. Fingers crossed that it shows improvement.  Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

My office still isn't functional, so my next issue will be really late.

We haven't found a new pastor for our church yet, but have some guest pastors willing to fill in. I'm doing the bulletins now in addition to greeting, help set things up and usher. It's a small church and a lot of the members can't help. John hands out hymnals and also helps with the offering.

The baby still hasn't arrived. Supposed to this week according to latest Dr. visit.

We don't have any vintage car parades around here as far as I know. Brian has a 68 Camaro that he restored and occasionally has in parades or shows.

Mary, it sounds like you had a great time and happy that you also escaped the Covid exposure.

Jane, I feel for you with your broken ankle. I've had a sprained ankle and that was bad enough. Too bad about having to replace your fridge. Why don't you like the dispensers on the door? I love them.

I get a cholesterol test Wed to see if my new Repatha drug is working. I have very high chol. and diet and statins don't help it. I have a bad reaction to statins since I had chemo 21 yrs ago. So this new drug is injected every 2 weeks and is supposed to be magic. We'll see. My cardiologist (new) was horrified at my levels and afraid of my having a stroke. My paternal grandparents both died of strokes, so I sure hope this works. Although, my mother also had very high levels and never had a stroke or heart attack.

Hi to all of you I haven't mentioned. Hope you're all having a good day.  Sharon

MaryPage

Love and Hope to you, Sharon.  Hopes for Melanie coming through with flying colors and great good health, and you as well and all.  May there be No Strokes in your future!

jane

Sharon...I hope,  too, that Melanie comes through and gets help for her pain.

I don't want any dispensers in the door because I can't use them.
There is no basement under our kitchen and around here those lines would freeze in the winter.  I prefer to buy a bag of ice and not have to worry about the water lines that would have to be put in place.

Speaking of which...Phil called a few minutes ago and said the fridge was at the store and they'll bring Thursday morning.  HURRAH!

The nurse called with my blood levels and said all was good.  I asked about SED (inflammation) and she said.."Oh...uh...it's 64.  I'll
send report to your rheumatologist."  It was 47 when he added on to the prednisone and added arava.  Obviously not helping.   :(

Beautiful day here...cooler than normal...low 50s tonight and so much nicer than those humid high 80s!

Take care and stay safe and healthy,

jane

Cottoncandy

Good morning buddies...it's cooling off a little bit...thankful for that...school has started back here..prayers for our teachers and children...I'm having carpet replaced in my bedroom...be glad when that's finished...Jane glad you had a good Dr report...what do you take for blood pressure....I have such bad side effects with the one I take....Dr doesn't seem concerned..Sharon hope you get your office done the way you want it...hi to all looking in...have a safe great day

patricia19

Good morning, another cloudy, filled with rain periods type of day. This weather is generally Interior August weather. If the old norms hold out, September will be cool but beautiful, and October will see the fall colors and leaf fall. Halloween should bring the first snow. Of course, nothing is generally normal, as we've seen over the past three years.

I have low blood pressure, 90 over 60, which is a root cause of my falls. I will feel what I can only describe as a sudden flush of vibrating heat before I momentarily pass out and fall. I'm told there is no oxygen in my platelets, and I cannot donate blood, and it is also why taking any blood is a complicated procedure. Again it's also the reason for my MedicAlert and balance issues. It is from the paternal side of the family, and I was the "lucky recipient."

It is not treatable with drugs but with care, diet, and iron supplements. It tends to come and go in periods every ten to fifteen years, but I think it's progressing with age. The doctors and I  hadn't connected it with my falls until I mentioned the preceding heat and vibration.

It is not close to the issues and medical issues associated with high blood pressure, but it has its associations.

We're in for a rainy couple of days.  Sounds good to me! After this week, I'll take a couple of cool, rainy days!

Darlene...I'm on metropolol (correct spelling?) and it seems to be working for me.  My BP usually runs high, but at ortho 3 weeks ago it was 120/60 and 127/70.  Surprise as it's usually 145+/80+

I did a walk around in WalMart and the other grocery store here for some needed items for the weekend.  It's been 3 weeks since I've been "shopping," using up what I had in the freezer or bringing home left overs from lunches out.

I'm getting used to my new fridge and tossing out a lot of stuff I've had too long or has been without refrigeration for too long.  It's time to start with new things.

Take care and stay healthy.  Hoping to see posts from our Maryz, MaryPage, Marilyn, Alpiner, Jeanne, etc.

Nothing exciting around here.  Great day yesterday with mani/pedi/haircut in the morning.  Oh, yes - I did get hacked on Facebook. Guess it was just my turn. But I've notified them, changed my password, etc. What a pain!

Glad you got your new fridge hooked up, jane. Great opportunity to throw away all that saved stuff.

YEAH...good for you, Maryz!

Chip left for Seattle several days ago to visit a friend.  Daughter Becky arrived from Missouri to help me out.  She & Debi have been over here every day since, and we have been having a truly wonderful visit.  They have been doing a lot of very special cleaning chores of the unusual variety: picking up & moving the living room sofa so as to vacuum under it, getting all the spiders off the balcony that seems to breed them, cleaning out the refrigerator.  But mostly we've been laughing our heads off over shared memories.  I am most grateful for their company & their help.  Life is Good!

maryz

Children can be wonderful, MaryPage!!!

MaryPage...how wonderful to have your girls there to do some "heavy" lifting!

Hi, Maryz!  I hope all is well in TN.

It's a rainy Saturday in NE Iowa...storms off and on, "they" say.  I hope so.  I'm in the mood for that kind of day.

We went to church this morning , came home had a bite to eat & went to a historical society meeting .  We meet in the women's club here in town which was the old town hall back in the  late 1800's  .  I doubt the building has a/c , i was quite warm . I just checked the weather online & it is 87F !  The speaker spoke about local bees & honey production . I fell asleep !!

jane

Good Afternoon, Buddies.

Alpiner...whew  87 degrees is too hot for me inside, too.

Marilyn...transport chairs are nice.  I had one for Ray, too, when he just couldn't manage walking far.

I had more xrays this morning and saw the Ortho woman.  She says I can start to walk around the house without the "boot" in two weeks and come back for xrays again and see her in a month from now.

I went on to WalMart for Part 1 of groceries, came home and put them away, ate lunch and rested a bit.  Then off to Fareway for Part 2 of groceries...and home again to rest.  It's gotten very hot and humid and HIGH UV warnings.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

Marilyn, good to hear from you.  Getting paperwork done is such a pain, but I'm glad you've gotten all your assets under your control. So important.

jane, glad you're fracture is healing well. I'm sure going to the grocery stores is not much fun.

Nothing unusual going on here. Usual August weather this week - temps in the high 80s, but unusually no rain predicted and lower humidity.
