Hi, Diglady!

I think our Patricia is OK.  She's in the interior...at Fairbanks, I believe.
Those on the coast are sure having an awful time of it.

And now hurricanes to the south. Among the floods, the wildfires, the drought, it seems we've had it all.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning from the Interior at a cloudy 40 degrees and rain, This is normal September weather, and we should see another temperature drop and leaf drop before the end of the month. October should be cool, crisp, and colorful as we await the first snow nominally by Halloween.

Thank you for your sympathy, Dig, but the western plains, broken up by the Bering Sea and the Chukchi Sea, is a vast coastal watershed. Storms from the seas are expected, with the Bering especially turbulent. However, like everything else, climate change has roiled these storms to the max, and information about the incoming storm was sent out, and people prepared, bringing in the fishing boats offshore and tying everything down as possible, which is why there have been no reports of injuries. The majority of the population on the plains is indigenous, Inupiat, and has lived there for thousands of years.

MaryPage

I worried about you, too, Patricia; but Jane's remarks brought me reassurance.  Thank you, Jane.

I think I have told you before about my great grandson, Miles.  He of the "Today I am going to learn to fly, and I need to make a parachute" caper.  Miles is in second grade this year.  He was recently absent from The Country School, where his mother teaches Science to all the grades, due to a bug ravaging our area at present.  Melissa, mother of MIles (actually, I probably need to start putting that in caps) said she really learned how popular Miles is when so very many children came up and asked her about him and commented how very nice he is.  Melissa was touched, but his P.E. teacher found in him a problem she swears she has never encountered previously.  Well, I just bet she hasn't!

She is teaching the class to play Soccer.  Turns out Miles might make a good player, only.  Only he does not think it "nice" to take the ball from the other team.

Hi everyone...I've been watching the Queens funeral.....very impressive...there seems to be different kind of bad weather everywhere...my daughter in-law is on a cruise..but don't think it's the direction she's going...Australia...Patrica hope all is well with you...Jane how is your ankle doing......not much going on with me....hope everyone has a great coming week

jane

MaryPage...Hmmmm...I don't think young Miles has a career in soccer or any team sport in his immediate future!
 What a cutie.

Darlene...I had an appt today with Ortho and can take off the boot.  She showed me the xray...bone appears to be all one piece now and no space in the middle of it that the first xray had.  One more appt in a month for the formal goodbye to Ortho!

Tomorrow they're saying to be record breaking heat for this time of year!
Then a cold front comes in with much cooler temps. I like the sound of that.  While I was at hospital for ortho appt, I also could get my blood draw done for next week's rheumatology appt.

Hospital requires masks for all entering.
Stay safe and healthy,

jane

According to the TV weather guessers, it's to be a scorcher today....very unusual for this late in Sept. and then much cooler.  So, I'm going to sit this day out here in my AC and then maybe I can turn some off for the next weeks.

Disappointed my blood work yesterday still shows high inflammation.  I see rheumatology next week...hope they have another plan.  Even doubling the Arava only took 3 points off the inflammation and CR-P has also increased above normal.

I hope you all stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

Sorry about your blood levels, jane. Certainly no fun!

Two record setting days for heat here. Nashville hit 99 today (2* above the previous record. And tomorrow is also predicted to be 99. And, of course, heat index in triple digits.  Fortunately. a cool front comes through on Thursday, and we're back to more normal low 80s and upper 70s. We can only hope.

jane

Mary...that sounds like the heat wave we got...broke all kind of records...100 degrees in NW Iowa.  Only got to 96 here.  Today is much nicer.

I even got out for 2 15 minute walks.  Trying to build up my stamina after 8 weeks in the cast.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

MaryPage

Oh, Jane Dear, I AM that glad the cast is now old news, and I AM sorry about the news re the blood tests.  We just flat out all of us belong to that group of human beings for whom life is just one damn thing after another.  Well, for me, at least, the bad stuff is sufferable as long as the beautiful little bits remain and crop up on a daily basis to remind us how lovely living truly is!

SharonE

Congratulations to Miles! That is definitely a big deal. I don't blame you for busting your buttons!

It's in the 90's here today but supposed to cool way down the rest of the week.

Patricia, glad you're safe.

Jane, hurrah for getting rid of the boot. Just don't overdo.

Melanie had her new chemo Monday and didn't have any bad side effects, just tired. Just hope it is effective.

Not much going on here. Hope to finish my Oct. issue this weekend.

Hi to everyone and stay safe. Enjoy the fall weather. Sharon

jane

Evening, Buddies!

Sharon...glad Melanie's new chemo worked out ok for her.

MaryPage...Boy, that's the truth!

A beautiful fall day here...so bearable now.  Even better when my trip to the dentist turned out good (except for the bill  ::)
and so off the hook until next April.  I also got one grocery store trip done and was pulling in my garage when I remembered two things I had wanted to get at the other grocery.  But, that's for tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

MaryPage

Confession Time! Whenever I am feeling guilty, I find a strong compulsion to express that guilt, even if I totally lack the powers required for me to have been the least bit responsible for the thing shoving Guilt into my stomach.  The bottom line is that I have no powers whatsoever to have made matters otherwise.  No one has appointed me Chairman of the Weather.

What I am guilty of is living in a divine section of the country where the summer has been quite lovely, there have been no Great storms or Bad Weather Events, no huge fires, no floods.  We have enjoyed warm, but not unbearably so, temps with a most enjoyable breeze from our gorgeous bay waters dotted with the white, white sails of summer.  And Autumn and Spring are even more marvelous than the summer days.  Old age pulled me out of my beloved Virginia back in the year 2000 so as to be situated pretty much in the middle of my wonderful family, and now I all but root for NAVY in their competitive games.  Except when they play ARMY.  I am still my father's daughter, and that would be sacrilege of the very worst kind and sort.  So it's "GO ARMY; BEAT NAVY!" for me, and everyone is most kind and understanding.

Cottoncandy

Hi Everybuddy....it's finally getting a little bit cooler and we got a nice rain shower early this morning...so I got my walk in and it was good to do that...Sharon hope ur Melanie is doing ok...my son Johnny will have a pet scan end of next month...praying for good results...Jane I have to drive 40 miles one way to shop...which has Walmart and HEB.....wish I had home delivery here...I always have a list and still miss getting things.....haven't seen Marlyin post lately...does anyone ever hear any about Sue..Hi to all reading...have a great week

jane

Hi, All...

Darlene...no word from Sue.  I don't think she's able to anymore.  I know she's in a memory unit.  Her boys worried about her living alone and forgetting so many things...like eating, etc.

Back from  rheumatologist...he wants me to have a CT scan if they can get the ok from Medicare.
Clinic requiring masks.  I love their valet parking...

42 when I left this morning, but up to high 50s now.

Nothing exciting.  I didn't even stop to shop at the mall.  Just not interested in that when I can buy what I want that I know will fit online.

I'm going to clinic here for flu shot Saturday morning and get my next Covid booster at 2:15 on Oct. 7 at a local drugstore.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

It has been quiet in here. I hope "no news" means "good news".  That's the case here, anyway. Other than some local drama - one staff member fired because of friction with a couple of residents (not me), and another leaving because the job here is just not a good fit for her (she needs to be somewhere where she can have more one-on-one with fewer residents). Oh, well.

I just keep knitting (working on an afghan now) and working on-line word games. The only other news is that I should be getting two more great-grandbabies next spring. I hope that works out, in any case.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

jane

Good morning, Mary, and whoever comes in later.

Nothing exciting here either....coldest morning so far and frost warnings were out.  It's a clear, bright morning now and I hope to get out and walk a bit when the temps rise a bit.
I also get a haircut at 11:15.  That'll be the big news for me.  I'm going on Sat. for my flu shot and then next Fri (10/7) for my covid bivalent (SP?) booster.  A local drugstore seems to be the only one who has it.

Florida is in for a difficult day it seems.

I had a CT scan yesterday , my breathing has been irregular & at my oncologist office I could barely talk after walking down a long hallway .  The dr. wanted the CT scan & also for me to see a pulmonary dr .   A vein on the the back of my left hand was used to inject the dye & now there is a huge  discoloration .  Looks like I was in a fist fight !  I'm on oxygen at night because my breathing is irregular .

jane

Alpiner...

Good to get the info to the doctors so they can help with your breathing.

jane

MaryPage

Alpiner, that sounds so much like me!  I really like my pulmonologist, now that I have one of those.  I am getting too senile to keep up with all the ologists I have these days.  I content myself, well, sort of, in thinking it is folk like me that keep them all in business!

And we finally know what Queen Elizabeth died of:  Old Age!  Now that makes perfect sense to me, albeit it is the first time I've heard of it actually written on a death certificate!

MaryPage

Oh, and Mary!  It is Such fun looking forward to more great grandbabies coming along!  Congratulations!

SharonE

Hi Gals, I'm still doing the same things. We survived the edge of Ian with just rain and light wind, no loss of power.

I finished my newsletter for Oct. yesterday, but the director is having trouble printing it--I guess because I have so many pictures in it this time. This was my Pet Parade issue. I had those who wanted to to send me pictures of their pets & their names. It was a pain to get them all in and spaced right, but I think everyone will be happy with it.

I got my hair done this AM. I was really shaggy because she had been on vacation last week.

Melanie is very tired because her blood count is very low due to the chemo. She's kind of down because she is having to stay in so as not to catch anything.

Our weather has been in the 60's! I finally boxed up my capris and got my cords out.

Patricia, glad you're safe.

Mary, how wonderful to have 2 new great grands! How many does that make you now? I have 5 so far.

Darlene, I hope the PET scan shows good results! Nice you're cooler too.

Jane, glad you can get out and about now, even with a cane. I had to walk to the clubhouse today because transport wasn't available. I used my walker though and was able to get a ride back. I've been having a lot of back & knee pain and am going to start PT again to strengthen my legs. They are so weak.

Tomorrow is a WALGREENS senior day and I have a long list. John usualy goes, but I have some makeup, etc I need.

The 21st, I am flying up to Chicago to see Lori & her new condo, and then on to Minneapolis to see the baby and the boys. I just couldn't bare waiting any longer. I'm going by myself because John has a bridge tournament.  I will only be gone about 5 or  6 days. Thank goodness for wheelchairs in the airports.

We had the 150th church anniversary the 25th. It was just great and so nice to see everyone again.

Must go. Almost time to leave for dinner.  Stay well everyone, especially Alpiner.  Sharon

jane

Beautiful day here, and I even managed to walk for 15 minutes.  I have a lot of stamina to build back up after the broken ankle sidelined my walking.

The wasp people canceled and now will be here Thursday.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

patricia19

Jane, I'm sorry your ankle is still giving you issues. While I've never broken my ankle, my Feb. 2021 sprained ankle and hip wrench give me some idea of what you've gone through. I'm hoping you feel much more like yourself sooner rather than later!

Hello to Sharon, MaryPage, Marilyn, CC, Alpiner, and others coming next.

jane

Thanks, Patricia.  I just want it healed before we face ice and snow.   :2funny:

Another beautiful day here and I got out fairly early for a few items.

Rains and cooler weather to come tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

patricia19

I'm looking for a single ski pole or a cane with an embedded blade. My wonky balance doesn't do well in snow.

maryz

Patricia, you have a whole different set of walking challenges.  ;D

jane, good luck with your ankle strengthening. It's tough, I know.

Sharon, these will be great-grands #3 and #4 - probably due in late spring. The pregnancies have not been officially announced yet.

alpiner, hope you're getting your health issues under control.

Darlene, glad your son is doing well with his treatments.

Nothing exciting going on around here. Only exciting things happening are a video-conference with my financial counsellor on Thursday, and lunch out with Margaret and a couple of her friends on Friday (It's her birthday).

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Hi ....Good to read all the post...I haven't been good to do that....I am having trouble again getting a medication that will control my blood pressure without the awful side effects...I had to get a new Dr due to my other retired.....does anyone else have that problem with meds?..The weather has been nice and I'm back walking....Hi to all reading... I did get my flu shot already.....stay well and safe

jane

Patricia...
Try looking at these...https://www.amazon.com/walking-stick-ice/s?k=walking+stick+for+ice

they may be what you're looking for.

It's a great idea for icy conditions

Darlene...sorry you're getting unmanageable side effects with your BP meds.  Maybe this new doctor has some new ideas.
