Thanks,  Patricia, for that link.

Darlene...I just want to keep them out of my birdfeeders and suet feeders.  For that I get "squirrel baffles" from the farm and home store...here they are at Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/squirrel-baffles-poles/s?k=squirrel+baffles+for+poles

I'm watching the Trump trial...well, the reports from the trial as it's not allowed to be televised.

I'm busy getting my kitchen sink emptied and dishes washed and put away, dishwasher emptied, etc.

Take care, stay safe from the storms that seem to be constant, etc.

Cottoncandy

Thanks Patrica and Jane..I will try that

Greetings, Everybody!

I'm incredibly tired this morning...and so glad I have no more appts today.  Yesterday ended up being very stressful.  First, the surgeon did the removal of three "lesions" he thought should go, and this morning, that area of my chest is very tender.  I go back in 2 weeks to have all the stitches removed.

Then I had an hour annual meeting with banking folks.

Tomorrow is the cystoscopy here in town at our hospital.

Stay safe and healthy.  I sure hope we get a break from all the storms and disasters soon.

Good morning...it seems some areas are getting wind and hail ..we are already in hot temps..I had all 4 of my kids and several gkids here for Mothers Day...hated to see them leave...I wonder your opinion on my next question..of course feel free to not comment...I need to decide on my last wishes for when God calls me home..I can't decide between creamation or grave side...I want to do which might be the easiest on family...or I could do nothing and let them decide....any comment.???

RAMMEL

Cottoncandy, - I have selected cremation. One good reason (IMHO) is it takes up less space. Also the ultimate location of remains is more selectable. For me, cremation allowed for all of my immediate family to be put in the family plot (actually in one grave plot). There would not be room for that many caskets.

I too have chosen cremation. In fact, it is all paid for. I did it with a member of a funeral home and my daughter was present. Price $1200 cremation-vs $9000 burial. Also my ashes will be at a Veterans Cemetary nearby. So I have left NO hassle for the family.

patricia19

Cremation makes sense for me. There are many places here, not only graveyards, that accept cremains. There are also memorial gardens, and church sacristies. Some graveyards have walled gardens, or family areas for cremains, as well as sharing a grave site.

Tomereader1

Cremation for me to, and it is also all paid for.  My husband had expressed his wish to be cremated, thus it was done.  I have the beautiful, engraved urn in full view, he's always with me.

phyllis

Cremation for me, too.  When the time comes my family will spread the co-mingled ashes ( he is already deceased) of my  husband and me in a favorite place in the mountains.  It is what we both wanted and our family agrees.

Another opinion for cremation.   Raymond was cremated and he's still with me in our bedroom.  I had a beautiful wood box made by the Trappist Monastery in Peosta, Iowa, that has room for both of our cremains. I talk to him everyday, though he doesn't say much back   :2funny:

Aside from the exorbitant cost of a casket, I bought the walnut box that will be buried somewhere when I'm gone.

Awful storms last night again.  Winds were 60-80 mph and tornadoes leveled the little town of Greenfield over south of DesMoines.   Yes, I did spend some time in the basement when the siren went off.  Now two days of mild weather before more storms on Friday.

jane

Cottoncandy

Thanks yall for your comment...hope all are doing well...nothing new with me...it's hot already..so have to walk early...be safe yall

Tomereader1

Jane, I was really worried about you when I saw the report of the tornado in Iowa.  Glad you are safe, and very glad you hve a basement.

jane

Thanks, Tome.  These winds are really something.  The basement is necessary for my mental health.

Darlene...Your heat is incredible this early in the summer.  I hope your electric grid holds up and you don't have power outages.

jane

Good morning yes Jane we are having triple digit temps already...can't imagine what August will be like..I expect we will have rolling blackouts...Happy Memorial. Day...my husband served 12 years...I sure miss him...been gone 11 years...stay safe...and cool

Cottoncandy

Good morning...going to be 103 today...so all my activities will be inside...hope everyone has a great day...safe and cool

jane

Wow, Darlene....that's HOT for the end of May.  We're to have 80s next week and that's hot for me.

I saw my cancer surgeon today to have the stitches taken out of the 3 sites where he removed "suspicious" stuff and OUCH did those hurt.  He must do tiny little tight stitches.... :'(

I thanked him for all the medical care he's given me and gave to Raymond.  I won't be doing mammos so won't see him yearly.  He said remember I'm here if you need me.

Tomorrow I'm off to Cedar Rapids for a check on my hearing aids.

Lots of rain when I left Dubuque and 15 miles out it was dry as a desert.  It's clear and bright and sunny here.

Take care, everygal...watch out for weather warnings.  We all seem to be places where those pop up way too often lately.

SharonE

Hi Gals. I haven't died. I fought the uti for several weeks and then discovered I had C Diff, a kind of colitis that can be very serious. Lots of diarrhea, but once I got on the correct antibiotic, it started improving.

We went to Brian's in the St. Louis area this past weekend to celebrate our youngest grandson's graduation from college. Most of the family was there, so I got to see baby Myra who is 4 mos old now.  If you check out my FB post today, you can see pictures.

I've been very busy with Dr's appts too. The cardio said my heart improved on the new meds. My coumadin level is stable even with our trip.

I had to get the newsletter and church bulletin done before we left, so I plan to rest and work on my files this week. I was so tired todau, that I got a sub for bridge.

We had a bad storm Sunday night in St. Louis. Brian lost a small tree and had lots of branches down, but no real damage.

Melanie is not doing very well. Neuropathy in one foot causing her to use a walker. But she came to the reunion and with the help of Brian and her husband was able to navigate the stairs etc.

I don't know if I told you, but Lori finally got a really good job at a similar salary to what she had and she likes it a lot better.

Jane, were the lesions on your chest cancerous from your breast cancer or what. Sounds painful. You aren't saying much about your kidney cancer and the prognosis. I hope it is healing. You are ever in my prayers.

Darlene, we have prepaid our funeral expenses also--cremation and to be spread in the prayer garden of our former church.

Mary, I hope you are doing well. The loss of appetite isn't good.  Your weather and ours stay in sync.

Marilyn Fisher got a new small do to replace Freckles and to keep Millie company.

Stay well everyone and have a nice summer.  Sherry

jane

Sharon....so good to see your post and catch up.  The lesions on my chest were benign and I got those awful stitches out yesterday.  That was an OUCH time.   My bladder cancer seems to be under control.  At the end of June I start the 3 weekly cycle of BCG again along with a urogram (SP?) that's a CT scan of that area where the bladder, kidneys are.

We've had a lot of days of high winds and then hard rain.  Today is beautiful and a very pleasant change...sunny and 70s.  Today I have to go to Cedar Rapids for a hearing aid check, tomorrow is the dreaded dentist, and then, whew...on Friday a haircut.

The BCG treatments have made my hair so coarse and weird curly.

Take care, ALL, and stay safe and healthy,

jane

Sunday Morning, June 2 greetings!
Finally May is over.  It seemed like it lasted 89 days.

School is out here, and the pool is open, so I see "Americana" daily as kiddos of all sizes walk or bike off to the pool with a towel thrown over their shoulders.  And we have the occasional boy with fishing pole headed for the river which is higher finally dues to all the rain lately.  Those are the things I love about summer in a small town with a river running through it.  The parking lots downtown are filled, too, with people with kayaks for using on the river run.

Also good is a week with NO doctor appts.  My car does have to go to the car docs on Mon and Tuesday, but it's "for her own good"   ;D  ;D  ;)

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Jane...do you have to force her ( car ) to go or does she go on her own accord  ;D

jane

VJ....The car refuses to go on her own or pay for her "help."  So, I have to drive her there and wait for her...and pay for her.   :2funny:  :2funny:  :uglystupid2:  ::)

For those in the South, like Darlene and Maryz and Sharon....your temps sound horrible for early June.  I sure hope your ACs are working without a problem.

A warm, windy day here, but much nicer than the seeming constant rains.  I only got out to pull my garbage bin and recycle bin to the curb. Then I dumped my dirty clothes needing washing into the washer.  The soap I've switched to is the "sheet" type that isn't heavy to lift as the plastic jug of liquid detergent is.  That's my "innovative" action for this year.   Yes, sir-ree, I'm really on the "cutting edge!"  :2funny:  :2funny:

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Cottoncandy

Hi buddies...yes it's more than hot in my part of Tx..had to go in for another set of hearing aides...boy everything is going higher in cost..guaranteed for 3 years...we are really in need of rain..our rivers are very low..a lot of people are getting the above ground swimming pools...I used to love to swim....better head to the kitchen for a salad..yall take care and keep safe

jane

Darlene...I hear about your horribly high temps on the evening news.  How people can live comfortably with those temps is beyond me.  I feel for those who have to work outside.

We're to get high temps (for us) next week...nearing 90. I know you're in the 105+ range.

My sister and BIL arrive tomorrow afternoon for a stay of a few days.

I'm planning to spend the afternoon reading...and watching it rain some more.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

From Marilyn in a mail:

I noticed that maryz  (Mary Zelle) hadn't posted in Bosom Buddies for about a month.  I looked and found her obituary in a newspaper in Tennessee.   She posted only in  Bosom Buddies.  She used to post in Library, which is how I knew her.

Marilyne

Tomereader1

Thank you so much, Marilyne for posting MaryZ's obituary.  I always enjoyed her posts, from way back when she was in Chattanooga, TN.  She seemed to be a dear, sweet lady.  I will miss her posts in Bosom Buddies.

SharonE

Marylin, thank you so much for the link to Mary's obit. I had no idea she was that sick. I will miss her also. I did get to meet her once in person when we were passing through Chatanooga.

John & I celebrated our 63rd anniversary Monday. We feel so blessed to have such a long life and marriage.

Jane keep us in the loop with the results of your urogram. I hope your treatments are not too stressful.

Darlene, I'm with Jane on your extreme heat, and haven't you had some floods too? Take care of yourself. Your Mothers' Day with the whole family sounds wonderful. I wish ours was reasonably close by, but we all went our own directions.

We aren't doing anything exciting these days. Same ole, same ole!

Everyone, stay cool and healthy.
Sherry

jane

Thanks, Marilyne, for Mary's obituary.  She will be greatly missed here.  I had the pleasure of meeting her in person several times in Weslaco, TX, and when she and John took a Mississippi River cruise that had a stop in Dubuque.  She was a wonderful person...

Not much going on here...just staying in to be cool.  I finished up the laundry of sheets and towels from my sister's visit, and went out this morning to pay an air conditioning bill.

Stay cool and safe, Buddies!

jane

Cottoncandy

Good morning buddies...Jane and others going through Dr Appts...hoping for good results..I'm not doing much these hot days..the heat really zaps my energy...have a cool safe weekend
