Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hi, Darlene!  It's so dang hot here, too, and to continue now into the weekend.  Just in time for school to start here!  The weather goddess must know when school starts everywhere and plans to remind everyone it is AUGUST and that = HOT and HUMID.

Does anyone else have trouble keeping up with their password changes?  My original notebook with these words is a MESS!  So, I'm going to try something else.  I have a small notebook that I'm going to transfer my words to and hope I can keep it current...and small enough to keep with me when I travel. :-\  :uglystupid2:

That's the plan for this afternoon.  My grocery shopping was done on Tues., my laundry yesterday and put away this morning, and my checkbook updated to match the bank....so passwords is today's "job."

Take care and stay safe and healthy,

jane

I keep a small palm sized notebook by my computer, next to a bottle of whiteout. I also keep scraps of paper coded in my wallet when I go where they're needed and destroyed upon my return.

Good Morning...Yes August is. A hot. Month..I'm going to a funeral today of a good. Friend..who passed. At 97..RIP..Helen...I'm having a hard time balancing my check bk..since changing to. My.  Hi Gals. Well, I got the pacemaker 10 days ago and had a recheck yesterday. They say everything looks good, but I can't tell anything is different. I have to keep my left arm below shoulder level and not lift anything heavy. All of which is a pain in the neck.

Melanie is still in a lot of pain. Lori has seen both her oncologist, surgeon, and plastic surgeon. They say she is stage 1 and if they don't find any cancer cells in her sentinel nodes, she won't need chemo or radiation, just an oral med. She is going to go ahead and have a mastectomy and reconstruction though. Her surgery is 9/19. Her son is getting married in Banff, Canada the 17 and she wanted to have her surgery after that.

Weather-wise we've had hot, humid, rainy weather this month, although it is down in the 80's with humidity predicted to fall this week.  However, I'm seldom outside, so it doesn't affect me much.

No other news here. Take care of yourselves.  Sherry

Good morning Sherry...hope you are getting adjusted to your pacemaker..and Mealanie and Lori are improving also..If you are like me you take every. Step with them..I have a Son who is dealing with a detached retina and poor. Sight. In. Both eyes..Hi Jane..hope all is well with you ..hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend...take care. And. Be. Safe

Sherry...so sorry to hear your Melanie is in pain.  I hope the docs can find something to relieve that.  My darline nieces were also Melanie and Lori.  We lost Melanie to brain cancer in 2009, but Lori continues well.  [She just "celebrated" 40 years on the job at her hospital as an RN.  After working in a variety of jobs there, she finally has a decent shift and is Charge Nurse on the orthopedic recovery room so she has basically the same hours at the Ortho docs...but only has to report to the anesthesia docs.  So...holidays are hers as are nights and weekends.]Your Lori also had as good a diagnosis on breast cancer as one can get...a Stage 1.

My own second battle with cancer appears to be in remission.  The last test came through as negative!  So, no more tests or treatments until another cystoscopy in February.

we're having a wonderful respite from the horrible temps and humidity.  The pollen count is high as my nose and eyes will attest! :tickedoff:

For me, I follow the meterological seasons...meaning fall starts Sept. 1!

My hot water wasn't appearing in my kitchen sink so I called the people we've dealt with since we bought this old house...and he appeared 5 hours later...and got it working...rust in the old line, he said.  HURRAH for a quick visit.  My sisters-in-law in the Chicago suburbs would wait a week or two for a visit.  Hurrah for small town service.   :D

Football is big here ...first games for high schools this night.  It should be a pleasant night for the parents, grands, and others.

Take care and stay healthy and safe!

Jane

HELLO. BUDDIES...hope. You. Are OK

SharonE

Hi Darlene & Jane and anyone else stopping in. I've just been busy, not sick. Pacemaker is fine, don't need it rechecked for a yr. They ck it every 3 months via the bedside monitor that records it all.  I am now on a high-powered drug that I don't like and that makes me itch all over, but is supposed to deal with my heart's electrical system, ie the AFib and extra heart beats, etc. We'll see.

Melanie started a new chemo today after turning down very invasive hip surgery. Still in a lot of pain and lacking much mobility.  Lori had her surgery and we're still waiting to hear on the lymph nodes although they said they looked ok.

I finished the Oct. newsletter this past week and had several meetings and a lot of bridge.

Jane, it's wonderful you're in remission. You remain in my prayers.  I remember when your Melanie was fighting & losing her battle with cancer. So sad.  I didn't know that her sister was also Lori! How unusual!

Darlene, my husband, John, has severe glaucoma and only 10% of his vision now.  He expects to lose it all eventually, but I keep praying not.

Fall is nearly upon us here. Cooler weather and leaves turning. However, they're warning us in the Carolinas of a probable hurricane arriving next week or so. I hope it turns out to sea, but who knows yet.

Lori's son got married and the views are spectacular around them. We were in Banff about 20 yrs ago. Gorgeous.

Well, take care of yourselves.  Sherry

Good morning Sherry...we are. Having much cooler mornings..but. Warms up to 90..I have to go. Renew my. DL next week..hope that goes well..caught up on Dr appts for awhile..Hi to Jane and any looking in..stay safe..so. Many crazy shooters out there..don't know where the next one will be..God help us...

jane

Good almost afternoon to Darlene, Sherry, and whoever else is looking in.  Please let us know when you stop by.

Darlene and Sherry...fall is off and on here.  I do love the much cooler temps after the blistering ones we had most of the summer.

I had to make  another trip to a suburb of Cedar Rapids to the Volvo dealer ....the key fob they put a new battery in wasn't working and I can't open the *&^% fob.  Anyway, a new battery didn't help.  I was sent to "Service" there and he opened it and said the plastic prongs that hold the battery in were broken.  So, either pay $500 for a new one or press on the side to push the battery back into place.  For now, I'm doing that when I have to use it.  The other fob is working fine so I keep that one on the keychain.

Sherry...I hope your Melanie's new treatment works.  Our Melanie had so many treatments and some experimental...one at a cost of $100,000  ...and that was in 2009...but Ray and I were ready to help my sister and bil with that...but her insurance agreed to fund it.  I bet the insurance company wouldn't now.

I hope Melanie and Ray and my folks are having a great time in Heaven.

The current govt situation has me in knots...so I'm watching less and less tv.  I figure there's very little this 84 yr old can do physically about it...so.  I'm just glad I live in a very small town, do still drive and have a good hospital a mile away.

Enough of my ramblings.... Stay safe and healthy...

Your thoughts? Proposed board reorganization

Quote from: Oldiesmann on October 15, 2025, 10:08:02 PMI noticed that some boards aren't used much these days and am thinking of rearranging/reorganizing things to clean up the clutter some. Let me know what you think.

"Talk About Photography" and "Computer Art" - no posts in either board since this forum was restarted in 2018. Delete these since nobody is using them anyway

Rearrange other boards based on popularity - currently they're in alphabetical order in each category but some are more popular than others. "Computer Store" hasn't seen any new posts since 2021 but "Village Clubhouse" sees new posts almost daily.

Sherry and Jane..what's your opinion

SharonE

Hi Jane and Darlene and whoever else pops in. I don't mind if they delete the sites that have no activity, but hope that they won't delete thia one.

No big news here other than I just found out that we're expecting our 7th great grand in May!No.3 for my grandson, Thomas. (Melanie's son)

Melanie is holding her own and undergoing chemo. We are going down to visit them around Thanksgiving.

Lori is back at work, though not pain free. She is having saline infusions in her breast cavity to stretch it for the reconstruction. But the actual surgery is set for Jan.

Weather is cooler here--low 70's. I wore cords and a sweater for the first time today.

I finished the Nov. newsletter Sunday.  Turned 86 on Sat the 18th. Playing lots of bridge and reading lots.

Oh Brian is coming in town for work next Monday, so we'll get to have dinner and visit with him a couple times while he's here. He and Traecy(his wife) just got back from Paris where they celebrated their 33rd anniversary.

Can't think of much else. Hope you both are healthy and enjoying life.
Sherry

Good Afternoon, Darlene and Sherry and anyone else looking in.

I, too, would like to see this discussion continued, though we have lost, unfortunately, a lot of earlier posters.  But, I guess the disease and old age does that to our age group.  The sad thing is that, here in Iowa, we have a very high cancer rate now and it's hitting a lot of younger people.  I blame it on all the "stuff" they put on the fields to increase production...and which ends up in the ground water and the crops.

I, too, got my flu shot but haven't had the others yet.  My sister in Ohio got her covid one, but it's not available here at the clinic or the pharmacies.  I see my new primary care doc next week for a first visit, since my ARNP is retiring in Dec.  This fellow is an MD and new to our area.
Maybe he won't retire on me as the others seem to do.  Hmmmm...maybe I'm just getting too old! ;D

My great nephew, the veterinarian, is coming by tomorrow to stay overnight since he has calls to make to farmers 10 miles from me.  Easier than him driving back and forth to Mpls for a two day site visit.

I'm not surprised by all the closing of bricks and mortar (sp) stores and malls being deserted.  Any shopping I do is online and I guess I'm not the only one.  However, shopping is not much...not like the days when I was working and needed a lot more work wear.  Now it's sweatshirt and heavier pants when I have to leave the house.  Fancy, huh!!

Take care of selves!  Stay safe and healthy.
