Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Jeanne, I could probably go without my glasses most of the time, but not for reading much.  I've worn them all the time for so long, I had no problem continuing to wear them after my cataract surgery.  I thought it was much easier than having to hunt for readers anytime I wanted to read something.  Not John or our daughters - they use the readers, buy cheap ones, and have them stashed all over everywhere.  That would drive me nuts.  Just different stuff for different folks.

Jean got here midafternoon, and we're finishing getting my stuff ready to go.  I'm to be at the hospital at 6:15 a.m. tomorrow.  I'll show her how to post so she can come here to post a note, and she'll be posting something on facebook, so y'all can spread the word from there.

MaryZ.  Now I just had, for last 10 year the reading glasses . I also got these after having cataract surgery Med Care paid for on pair. I also renewed the Proscription couple times.  Never could walk around in them. I also had lots of $20 glasses around. Hated taking them out when shopping.
So now he gave me a prescription that will add a little distance to the top part and reading at the bottom with very little change.  Looks like my eye test last month showed a little change  in left eye. I never wore them to watch TV or go Movies etc.  But these new ones I can tell a little difference if I leave them on and watch TV. I can read the small writing on the TV better. And can sit further back from the Computer screen. Desktop.  Will try and see what happens. Cost about $315 which wasn't bad but to much to just not try to use.  I go back to him in Feb. I believe.

Mary's photo was taken in May 2016, wasn't it Mary?

Oh, believe me, I am thinking about you and wishing you well.  Well, the scary part will be all over this time tomorrow, and you will be being led down the road to recovery by lots of capable and caring hands.  Good luck to you, my friend.  Oh, and don't forget to send me news of Allison's trip as soon as you have any.

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I was late to get up this morning and ran on slow time all day.  Stacie is coming tomorrow to spend the night and I'll take her out to dinner.  On Friday morning, she will drive us up to Birmingham to visit with Alex for homecoming festivities, a football game on Saturday and will bring me back home on Sunday.  I think she'll drive back home after dropping me off. She may go straight home to N.O. from here.

I did get some laundry done today, took my usual walk, and not much else. I have el-cheapo reading glasses all over my house--but when I'm in a room and want them, they seem to have disappeared into thin air.  I can read most things without the glasses, but if I'll be reading for several hours, I like to have the readers on.

I'm trying to decide if I'll watch the debate tonight.  I tried the last one, but just couldn't stand the immature bickering from both candidates.  What a mess for our country!  I will vote, but may write in a non-candidate.

I hope you've all had a good day and can sleep well tonight.  Mary, you've got an early rising and the surgery early also.  I'm hoping all goes well and you don't have to stay in the hospital long.  How long will Jean be able to stay with you?  I have my fingers crossed and prayers for good results.

I need to call Stacie before it's too late this evening.  I tried to get her earlier today, but she wasn't answering her phone.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Sue....sounds like a nice trip to see Alex.

Overcast here this morning.  We could use the rain, too, though the farmers will grumble.  Harvest is in full swing, so drivers have to be extra careful.  Coming up at 55 or 60 mph on a tractor pulling two loaded wagons or a big, lumbering combine is not a good thing.  Combines take up more than one lane, so tend to drive on the shoulder, too, and getting around that big item is tricky.

Off today for regular checkin with the allergist...today off to Dbq.  Lots of driving the last couple of days.

Have a good Thurs!

Jane

They'll be having at that knee of Mary's this morning.  Let's form a circle here in cyberspace and say a prayer.

Gorgeous day here on the bay.  Way too warm for October.  I have had burbley good fun ordering some books from Thriftbooks for a 4 year old great granddaughter.  Have a pile of birthday cards on my writing place for me to work on this day.  Ah well, I'll put a load of laundry in and have at it.  It is a happy thing, too, to see the geraniums so loaded with blooms and enjoying the soft weather.

Son in law Greg is having a tough time, but is home.  Anne has taken several weeks off from her nursing job at the hospital to care for him.  It was a quadruple bypass.  Daughter in law Deanna in hospital with perforated intestine (diverticulitis), and spots discovered on her lungs while there.  Granddaughter Helaine's husband, Tim, at Johns Hopkins with serious problems concerning, mostly, his heart.  I do not much care for having lived so long that I see the next, and even the NEXT, generation suffering.  You know how it is, in the meadows of my mind they are all supposed to be still gamboling and playing and enjoying all of the joyous things of Life.

so_P_bubble

Thoughts go to you MP, for the many  suffering in your family.  Try to keep the stress in control.

This year the geraniums are anemic and I didn't plant any except for the lemony one which bears tiny blooms, but have a great smell and is supposed to keep mosquitoes away.  It is also the end of the petunias. Pity!

MaryPage

Well that's a new one to me, Bubble!  What is the name of the lemony one that smells terrific and keeps mosquitoes at bay?  I have to have me some of those!

Marilyn

Good morning, prayers going up for MaryZ.

That lemony geranium sounds wonderful Bubble. I've been thinking about planting some in the planter under the bay window. I wonder iof the lemon smell would keep the cats out of the planter since cats don't like citrus scents. I've been trying to get some rose cutting to take root, One did but so ffar none of the Mr. Lincoln or Blue Girl  cutting's have.

They just called to tell me the mirror is in for my car and I will take it to them on Monday. I sure miss that mirror, I use it
constantly, when parking, puling out of a parking space, backing us as well.

Gotta go time to fold the first load of laundry.

SharonE

I'm sending up prayers for Mary as well. I so hope the surgery is successful and her recovery speedy.

I just got back from the vet.  Bunny started having accidents in the house again, so took her for a urine sample & checkup.  She has a raging UTI and so is now on AB for 3 weeks. I hope it works fast.  The appt w/med cost $114!  She is one expensive dog. I am wondering why the cranberry pills haven't been working for her.

Sue, how nice that Stacie is taking lyou down to Alex's homecoming.  I'm sure you haven't seen much of him since your accident.

I wear trifocals with a prism to counteract my astigmatism.  However, I haven't had cataract surgery yet.  I am very farsighted.  When I first needed glasses in my late 40's, I got readers, but like Jeanne, it drove me nuts keeping track of them. They didn't have the cheapies back then. So I had them make me bifocals I could wear all the time.  When I was teaching, it was nuts trlying to keep track of readers.  I progressed to trifocals for use on the computer.

Mary Page, so sorry to hear of all the illness in your family. I hope all recover quickly.  Glad your geraniums are still doing so well.  All of my flowers in front are loving the cooler weather and the rain we got from Matthew.  In back, I have celosia in one pot and a couple of the clippings I did have taken root in the area next to the trellis.  I was just pruning them back a month or so ago and didn't intend for them to reseed.

Bubble, I've read of the lemony geranium, but have never seen it in the nurseries. I'll have to make a special ck next year.

Jane, I remember driving roads with farm equipment--not fun, but they  do have to move from one place to another, so the rest of us just have to have patience, I guess.  Be careful.

I hope Jean posts how Mary came through surgery soon.

I have to go to the grocery in a bit.  Sharon

A little different than mine which has tiniest light pick florets.  It does need to be pruned regularly but would look great in a hanging basket.

Just saw this on F B:  Mary Zelle is out of surgery. The doctor said she did very nicely. She is not up to the room yet, but I'm in here. Rm 334 Memorial Hospital Hixson.

This was posted by her daughter, Jean.

JeanneP

Good new on Mary. that seems to have gone Fast.  My Daughter gets her knee done November  11. She has cancelled out twice. Says she hears awful things. I have never heard any. So hope Mary can come on and tell us how well she is doing before long. Will send it out to Julie and put her at ease.  They were all the time putting shots into hers. Must have gotten another Dr. who told her she should have had knee done long time ago. Shots just made more damage.
JeanneP

jane

Glad to hear Mary's surgery is over and Jean has posted on Facebook about her.

Beautiful afternoon here...just in the 40s, so a bit of a chill out there.  Allergy visit went well...and I'm happy with him.  He said to try and cut back on meds after the frost. He's a believer is less meds is better.   :smitten:

Off to get gas for the car and a carwash.

MaryPage

Thank you so much, Sharon!

Keep us updated as you can.

SCFSue

MaryPage, I'm sorry about the illness/post surgery trauma.  Prayers and thoughts for all in your family in need.

So-P, thanks for the info on that geranium.  That's a new one for me.

Marilyn, I'm glad you're getting the new mirror for your car.  I'm sure you're relieved.

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear about Bunny's accidents and the infection.  She's such a sweetie and I know it is hard to know she's not well.

Jeanne, several of my friends have had knee surgery.  Most have had good results, the one who didn't is overweight and I think the stress on her repaired knee made it more difficult to heal.  I hope your daughter's surgery goes well.

Jane, I've not been taking my allergy medicine because of the others I've been taken.  So I'm having drippy nose syndrome--but it's not so bad since I'm not outside as much as usual.

Darlene, prayers from here for your family.  Good for you for cleaning out your cabinets.  I need to do it, too, but that's something I keep putting off.

Stacie got a late start this morning and I have no idea when she'll get here.  She pulled over about an hour ago and called to say she'd be late.  I'll take her out to dinner when she gets here.

Have a nice weekend, Buddies.  I'll be back on Sunday evening.
Su

jane

MP...hope all ill family are doing better tonight.

Candy...hope your family's difficulties smooth out as well.

Sue...enjoy the weekend with Alex and Stacie.

Marilyn....hope the mirror repair goes fine.

Sharon...hope Bunnie is doing better.

Jeanne.....fall is definitely here....frost again tonight....maybe killing one.

I have a leak on my front loader, and the guy is to call when he has the new gasket.  He says that's a common problem with older front loaders.  Because we have no one locally who repairs appliances since the local bankruptcy of the only place, the fellow has to come from another town.  At least he called back and gave us an idea of the $$$ involved.

Jane

Chilly Friday greetings...in high 30s and only to get to law 50s today.  Quiet day here, except for taking my car to the deLer for servicing for winter, oil change, etc.

We have a TV station that has started running funny "take a break from political ads" things....like the old ping pong game that was an early electronic ad....ball goes back and forth slowly and is hit back by a vertical sliding paddle....very calm and slow.  It's just black and white...and ends with "You're welcome."

Have a good Friday!

From Jean on FB:  Mary Zelle has been up out of bed!!! PT has been here for a torture session; she seemed to be quite pleased with Mom's first effort

MaryPage

Thank you again, Sharon.  Such lovely news.  Mary is a winner, and she's going to be not only fine, but better than ever!

maryz

It's really me. But on my iPad so not much. Up in chair. Not real comfortable but not awful. Pt will be back this afternoon. I'm supposed to be doing some walking.  Thanks for all the love.

JeanneP

MaryZ.  Sounds good. I am going to copy you notes here and send to Daughter Julie. So that she doesn't back out again before November 11,

Making something today that I have not had in years. Fact I think last was in UK at my Aunts 3 years ago. Friday I go through the fridge, freezer to see what left before store shopping. Had some strip steaks in freezer. big onion. lb mushrooms . Perfect to make a Steak, onion, mushroom pie. Even some butter to make the crust.  So I made 2 8 inch pies and took some of the filling to use for my lunch. Put over some mash potato's and some sprouts..  Had some broccoli. 3 strips bacon and will have some mash potatoes left and so will make some Broccoli, Cream soup for the freezer with those. Clears the fridge out.
Put my back out sleeping wrong last night so keeping on my feet walking around. Seems to be getting better. Better not sit at the computer long.
JeanneP

SharonE

Mary, wonderful to see your post. I read on FB that you walked to the door.  Glad you're doing so well, but I know how uncomfortable you must be still.

Really chilly here. 50 this morning, high of 65 this afternoon.  But supposed to be in the 70's all next week.

Jeanne, you are so good to cook such good meals for yourself. Not sure I would go to that much trouble.

Jane, the breaks from TV politics are great.  I just tape everything I want to watch and fast forward through all the politics and commercials.

Hi to Ginny, Joy, Darlene, Marilyn, Molly, Sue, and whoever else I've missed.  I just remembered Sue is gone this weekend. I hope she has a great time at the Homecoming with Alex & Stacie.

Sharon

Hi everyone..great to see MaryZ is doing so good....It's cooler here today...walked a mile earlier..will try to walk another mile late this eve.....I was looking at my vitamins this morning....without realizing it...I take about 7.  Surely there's a vitamin supplement in just one bottle to meet ones needs....any comments on this.  Have a great weekend buddies...Darlene

maryz

I know the pt is so important, and I'm having hard time. Doing some then hyperventilating and with panic attacks. Sigh...  Hope things go better tomorrow.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Mary.....tell the PT what you're experiencing with the panic attacks.  Those are terrible.  Thinking of you and hope PT goes better.

Candy...I've been taking a One a Day for Women 50+ but more I read the less confidence these are really doing anything good for me.  I may finish this bottle and be done with them.

This morning I took our no longer used prescription pills to the city collection site....two policemen in the lot by the Dept collected them.  One was a former student.  Huge guy....he's really grown since he was a 14 yr old!  😊

Beautiful day here....Ray watered, we watched IA lose to WI, have AL on now, laundry ongoing, and peanut butter cookies baked and ready for the freezer.

Jane

maryz

Jane, the therapist was well aware of it. I just couldn't do what was requested and was nauseated and hyperventilating. Hopefully better tomorrow.

SharonE

Have they put you on the knee bender machine yet? That really seems to help with flexibility. I'm surprised they are doing such difficult pt already.  Hang in there. It will get
better!

Darlene, I take Centrum Silver, not for women or men specifically, just the general. The women's has iron in it which we don't need now.  I take it because it has lots of minerals as well as vitamins. However, I still take larger doses of specific vitamins that I feel are necessary.
