Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Sue, good news on not needing hearing aids yet.  I've had mine for about 3 or 4 yrs now & definitely benefit by them.  I'm surprised you agreed to take on the presidency of the Garden Club.  I hope it won't be too much work for you.

Yesterday, Sandra, my cleaning girl, and I cleaned out the majority of the kitchen cabinets. There are still some to do, but the worst are done. She did the hard work while I sorted or supervised.  Last evening was the visitation for the wife of our church friend. We decided to go to that rather than the memorial because it gave us a chance to actually connect with him & his kids. They seem to be holding up, but are in such shock.  After the visitation, John took me to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner.  I had their salad bar and the wonderful shrimp pasta, half of which I brought home for today's lunch.

I have my last load of laundry in and not much planned for the rest of the day.  We've had a couple storm alerts but they didn't amount to anything, just light showers.

Marilyn, I'm glad getting Keith's tax stuff was easy for you. Didn't realize you took care of his finances on a day to day basis. Definitely makes it easier.   Furry Friends is really lucky you joined them. You do such good work.

Mary, hope you are doing okay.  Jane, have you finished up your taxes by now?  John still hasn't gone over the tax stuff with me but has promised to do so tomorrow. He needs to learn what's involved just in case I can't do it.

Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Hi gals - just checking in.  I had my mammogram this morning - always glad to get that done.  And I'll go to the pulmonologist for evaluation in a little while.  We're having a lovely day today.  Lots of rain yesterday - about 1.25" in my rain gauge.  It's still badly needed around here - we officially in "extreme drought" conditions.

Marilyn, talking to the kids about caring for pets is a major thing, IMO - too many have no idea of what's involved in pet care.  Good job!

Sue, I'm with Sharon - surprised you accepted a presidency, especially since you're not driving right now.  In any case, I know you'll do a great job.

Sharon, all sounds good in your world.  As it does with Jeanne.

Hi to jane, Darlene, and all the other Buddies.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Cool day and VERY windy....not pleasant at all to be out.

I played bridge today with "the girls" and had a good time, but terrible cards!

Sharon....I did finish the paperwork and the papers are now in the hands of the tax people.  Whew!  Ray would be totally lost, too, if I didn't do the paperwork.  I keep track all year long of out of pocket medical on my Quicken, taxes, paid, etc., mileage to doctors, so I can just print that out and give it to the tax people along with the paperwork from the bank, brokerage, etc

Nothing much doing this afternoon....think I"ll change into soft clothes and do some reading.
I can hardly stand to watch the various news shows anymore.

Angel. Now I thought that Adrianne was a Cat Lover.  Think she had a couple before she moved out of her house. Always had photo's on Seniornet.
Her Granddaughter that she met back then must be getting into her 20s now.

Sue. You must be feeling much better if you decided to take over that Presidency job. Maybe you know that will always be someone to drive you.
I stopped taking on any of those jobs. Because of being in Finance they always thought I should at least take the Treasurer. I found in any position it was so hard to get people to volunteer to do any thing and one ended up doing to much. But if it is not a busy one then you will enjoy it.  Gardeners are a different type of people . One of mine was Bowling .

So windy here still.  Say we are going to get quite a good snow storm Friday night. Hope the wind dies down before then.   Watch out JANE. you may get some. Going down to 13 deg.  It 58 today.

I'm back from the pulmonologist with probably-not-unexpected report.  She told me I have "mild to moderate COPD" and prescribed me a daily maintenance Rx (Proventil) and a "rescue inhaler" (Anoro Ellipta).  I'm to go back to see her in two months.  So we'll see what happens with that.

Jeanne - I hope you don't get too much snow.

jane - sorry about the cards, but hooray for getting the tax stuff done.

"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Mary the Proventil is the rescue inhaler and the Anoro Ellipta is the daily  one. I just stopped the Anoro and went back on the Spirva for daily and have Ventolin for the rescue in haler.

maryz

Not the ones I have Marilyn - I have a sample inhaler, and it's Anoro.  ????
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Is this the one you have Mary http://www.startwithanoro.com/index.html?cc=BBAB36F6E8E1&pid= I would talk to your pharmacist. That is the one I had  for my daily inhaler.

maryz

Yes, Marilyn - maybe I got the term wrong - she said I could use it once a day if I thought it was necessary after I started on the daily medications.  I should get the pills in a few days.  (It's in process with my mail-order Rx supplier).  Thanks for setting me straight.   :2funny:

Note:  I haven't been able to use the little emoticons and other boxes above the "Reply" box here - and all of a sudden I noticed today that they were working for me.  Go figure!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Mary you are very welcome.

SharonE

Mary, I'm sorry to hear that you have COPD but glad they have meds for it. I hope they help you breathe more easily.

Marilyn, you do so much, your meds must really help your COPD.

Jane, sorry about the bridge but yea on the taxes.  I hate wind!

It's 70 and sunny here today with little to no breeze.  Perfect.  John actually got out and did some of the yard stuff that needed done.  I've done the grocery and that's about it.

Jeanne, there is snow predicted for the NC mtns and possibly a light dusting into Charlotte on Sat.  Don't like that.
Sharon

jane

Went for blood work this morning and there were snow pellets coming down as I went into the Lab, but it didn't last long.  Too cold for anything outside, so I've been doing laundry and other stuff around here. Called for an appt with the carpet cleaners...a new one to me since the one I used before has a phone no. that no longer works, so he must have retired.  Also called the electrician to get on his list for this month, hopefully.

Tonight I hope to go to the coffee shop for Knit Night. It's been a long time since I've been.

jane

Marilyn

Sherry yes my meds do help me tremendously. I river, I  didn't have enough to last the whole time we were there, I was without for 4 days. I hardly ever take that chance of going without them. When  I had difficulty getting them filled in the process of the in surance3 c hange, I just used my rescue inhaler a couple of times a day.

For Sue or anyone who has her email, I got this back from Adrienne Jonas.

"i remember meeting someone at Selfridges - more info please and give me last name so we can get in touch again"

JeanneP

I can't remember where everyone met for lunch when the group went to London. The Seniornet group. That is where I met them.  I had my family with me and we had just gone into London for the Day.
JeanneP

SCFSue

Angelface, I'm Sue who met Adrienne @ Selfridges.  Can you get to my info page where you will find my last name (I think)?  Let me know if you can't find it and I will send you a personal message.

Buddies, Tim took me to the neurologist I met in the hospital this morning at 8:00 a.m.  I had some little tests, both mental and physical.  She wants me back on the Aricept, so I am going to start it on Sunday evening.  I always start my new week of meds on Monday a.m. and that will keep me close to that.  Please keep your fingers crossed that I will have no more seizures!

Sue

angelface555

Sue, I saw your email but not your last name. So I decided to remove myself as a middleman and sent you both, each other's email.

Cool day here...down in the 20s.  Maybe snow to come this weekend. :buck2:

I've been cleaning the stove...oven door a mess after Ray did an Italian meatloaf yesterday.  I think we'll put it on clean since it's cool out and we're gong out for fish with friends tonight.

We're also off this afternoon to look for a new floor lamp.  Ours had stopped working.

We only have two furniture stores in town, so we'll see how f we can find anything without having to go out of town.

Jane

SharonE

Another beautiful day, altho a little cooler.  Sat nt/Sun AM we are to have a rain/snow mix, but nothing important.  The ground is already too warm.

I went to Waxhaw, a nearby town, to get a blood test today for my procedure next Friday. I also mailed the taxes while there.

This afternoon, I took Bunny to the vet and sure enough, she has a massive UTI again & so is on 2 antibiotics. All told--$194!!!  She's one expensive pup.  Then I had to stop at the grocery to pick up some deli turkey as that is the only thing she will take a pill in.I'm pooped now.

I'm getting my hair cut and highlighted tomorrow.  This gal has never highlighted me before. I hope she does a good job. She gives a wonderful cut.

Jane, I hope your snow doesn't amount to much.  Sorry for your Iowa team last night. IU was really fired up. I hope it continues. Hope you can find a new lamp. It is so aggravating when they stop working. I used to change the parts out, but with my tremor, I can't do that kind of fine muscle thing anymore.

Have a good Friday night, Buddies.  Sharon

maryz

My laptop got a nasty virus last night. The Zeus virus locked it up tight.  :tickedoff: After swimming this morning, I took it to staples. They're going to clean it out and put in some more protection. I'll get it back tomorrow. Sighhhhh!

Long day today. Swimming, Staples, mani/pedi, bridge. My partner and I didn't do very well. Only 49%, but still fun.  Hard to "type " on the iPad.  :) but I'm glad I have it.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Angelface, thanks for the info about Adrienne.  I've sent her an e-mail and am waiting for an answer.

Jane, I cleaned my oven the day I later had the seizures and I've been wondering ever since if the smell from the oven cleaner caused the seizures--I needed something to blame it on!

Sharon, poor Bunny AND you and John.  Having a sick dog is NOT fun.  I hope the meds help cure it very quickly.

Oh, Mary.  Computer viruses stink, too.  I hope that the Staples techs solve it for you quickly.  You had a busy day yesterday and am glad, too, that you had your iPad to use in the absence of your other computer.

I'm planning to watch Basketball games today--lots of tournament finals, but will do my walking first and a few household chores.  I'll reset my clocks for Daylight time this evening, but I'll probably skip church tomorrow morning as I don't know if I'll be able to get ready that early.

Have a good day, Buddies.

Sue...if you clean your oven yourself with chemicals that could indeed have affected you.  My oven is one that has a clean cycle, but there are still odors with that.  It burns off the "stuff" inside, I guess, and just leaves a white ash to wipe out with a damp paper towel.  It surely does get hot, though, which is why I do it on cold days.  It sure heats up the kitchen.

Ice on the backwater this morning and clear and crisp.  Lots of cars at both the grocery and WalMart...ahead of snow for tomorrow and Monday, I'm sure.  We had to go both places to get everything we wanted and both of us cooking today.  I made a beef stew for the crock pot and Ray's doing an asparagus, proscutto risotto in his pressure cooker.

So, cooking and the never-ending laundry are on the docket for today.  Had a text from WI friends we know in TX...he got shingles in his hairline even though he'd had the shot.  She says some days are better than others.

Off, like Sue, to watch some basketball and read.  Iowa is out of the Big 10 tournament and the NCAA, I'm sure, so I can watch the tournament without stress!

jane

maryz

jane, your beef stew sounds great, but I'd REALLY like to have some of Ray's risotto.

Sue, I hope you have a self-cleaning oven.  I have to say I've never cleaned an oven, except with one that is self-cleaning.  Until I had one of those, the stoves I had were all old ones, and probably would have disintegrated if they'd been cleaned.   ;D  I'm sure the fumes could have caused some problems.  Those chemicals are strong.

I've just come back from picking up my laptop! :smitten: It's working fine, and I'm SO much happier.  I'd hate to be snowed in and not have the computer.  Last night was one of those nights when I was up for a couple of hours in the middle.  I really hate those!  Usually, if I can't sleep in the bed, I'll drop right off once I move to the chair.  But that didn't happen from 3 to almost 5.  I finally went back to the bed, and did sleep for a couple more hours.  Oh, well - better luck tonight.

Stay safe and warm, Buddies!

We did our weekly Walmart run this morning it started to rain just as we finished ht shopping. I now have a loaf of bread ready for the oven and will need to fix lunch shortly. I was so hoping to get Freckles out to walk with me  so the rain better stop pretty soon.

I didn't sleep we;ll last night. I went to Music practice for Sunday service and was really belting out the songs so much that my throat was burning by the time I got home. it bothered me all night so this morning I   at a  spoonful of Raw Wild flower local honey and let that just kind of slide down my throat. It really helped to added with a cup of hot coffee. It is almost  all better now so I should be able to sing tomorrow. without belting it out, Pastor can just the sound for me. He brought a whole set of Gaither CD's that he wants me to chose songs from  to do specials. The CD's also have the lyrics that will go up on the screen which is a big help

JeanneP

It is a few years now since I use my oven.  I store things in it. I use a toaster oven and also have a large one that is convention. Sits on kitchen counter corner. Along with 3 size crock pots, MW. and lots of other gadgets for grilling I don't need oven for anything.  Its not a self cleaner.  How I remember years ago having to clean a oven. How that stuff smelled.  When I got this one I used the Foil liners. Even have the top burners lined.
Wi Fi has quit working in the house.  Computer was saying Server not found but that they got fixed over phone.  Ipad and things don't work.  I am not in the mood to mess today. Just turned all off.
MaryZ.  Glad you go your computer fixed.  Last week it was the TV giving problems. I don't have lights showing on the modem and so told them to just bring a new one out.  Will be Monday afternoon now.  Will go to a movie Tomorrow anyway. running out of patience with Technology.

SharonE

Hi Gals, sounds like the technology gremlins have been at work.  Mary, I'm glad you all up and running again. The Zeus virus is supposed to be a bad one. Did you lose any data? Glad you had fun at bridge. 49% isn't bad.

Jeanne, I know what you mean that when too much stuff goes out, you just want to wash your hands of it for a while.

I need to clean my oven. It is self cleaning, but I melted a plastic plate cover in there. I got most of it out, but I'm almost afraid to run the self cleaner for fear what's left of the plastic residue will catch fire.  I haven't used the spray oven cleaners in eons.  I used to though before I had the self cleaners.  Sue, I've heard that you can put a container of ammonia in the oven over night and it will loosen all the grease, etc. Haven't tried it though.

I got my hair cut and highlighted this afternoon. It looks really nice.  After I got home though, I started having diarrhea & was nauseous. Don't know why. Took an immodium and may have soup for dinner.

Marilyn, how can you have fresh baked bread and cakes in the house all the time without eating them?  I'd gain a ton.  No will power on things like that so just don't fix them anymore unless we have company.

We're supposed to get a very little bit of snow tomorrow, but I'm sure it will be gone by nightfall.  It was in the low 50's today and a high of 40 for tomorrow.  Enough already. I thought spring was here!!

Sue, thanks for the commiseration over Bunny.  She seems fine today. No more accidents, and she's thrilled to get the pills wrapped in turkey again.   ;D  Well, it is about time for me to get some dinner on.  Sharon

maryz

Sorry about your technology gremlins, Jeanne - hope it all works out.  What movie are you going to see?

Marilyn, I'm sure you'll do great with your singing - I know the listeners will enjoy it.

Sharon, I don't think I lost anything on the computer - I don't have anything really important on it in any case.  Re your oven, google something like "natural nontoxic way to clean oven" or something like that.  I've seen something recently, I think, using baking soda and cut oranges or lemons.  It might be worth some investigation.  Of course, I don't even have an oven any more.  LOL

I've been talking to a very old (length of time, not age) friend recently.  Many years ago, when we were living in Hendersonville, north of Nashville, I was a charter member starting a local chapter of the League of Women Voters.  I'm no longer active in LWV, although I've kept up my membership.  The chapter in Hendersonville is having its 50th anniversary in May.  I can't believe it!  They're looking for as many charter members as they can find to invite to a dinner.  And they found me - not that it was hard.  So I'm planning to go.  It'll be fun to see some of the gals from the old days.  And there are a couple I still keep in touch with.  It was an exciting time.

We had sleet earlier, but have had a pitiful amount of snow so far (9 pm) - maybe that's all.

MaryZ    The movie I am going to see is called" United Kingdom" British film and a true story. I remember it happening in 1946. in London. As a young girl then we thought so romantic.  A man from South Africa. Son a a King there. Was living in UK. Attending Cambridge I believe. Fell in love with a white British girl. Just a Office worker.  His father died making him next in line for King. He was determined to marry this girl. He did and they went back to Zimbabwe. Africa Country refused to accept but he fought for the right to rule and keep his wife.
I never did keep up with what happened and so will be interested to see.  I know they had 2 children.
I don't think the movie will do well as it is even just being shown for 4 days here at the small Art theatre.  Happened so long ago.
