Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

JACK WV...
...now that does sound windy, didn't seem to faze Mimi though...
ha ha, or maybe I shouldn't laugh, as over here we tend more to worry about our dogs rolling in fox poo, or eating rabbit droppings of which they seem to love....I remember when taking our Toby to outside puppy training, the ground was rife with these pellet type droppings, I spent more time pulling our Toby away from pulling up turfs of grass whilst eating them, while our puppy trainer was giving a dozen or so of us instructions...hence when it came to our turn to do what she asked, I was totally lost and confused through lack of listening to her... ;D

jackwv

Mary Ann the lake and whitecaps look great, but eager for warm weather and people on the beach.

Shirley I think you have another cat, admit it.

Jackie, the winds did not bother Mimi.   At the park I use a flexi leash, since I want her to be able to wander.  Sometimes I even remove the leash.   Now not sure, with all the deer.   Yesterday I had nothing to clean her with (I will learn)  Took her into a rest room that had an outside entrance, and used soap and paper towels.   Good that the room was empty.

I should teach her the "leave it" command I learned with Zoe and used with Jessie.   In the training we would place a hamburger on the ground and walk the dog past it.  When they went for it you jerked the leash and said  "Leave it"   After a few trys  the dog would listen.  I see folks at the park doing the same.  (just thought, some one should yell it when I reach for that piece of pie  :))

Mary Ann

Shirley, I solved the clock changing problem in a way - one clock is on the wall and I cannot access it from the floor and the other is a Westminster chime on a cabinet.  I had to put new batteries in both during the EDT period so I left them on EDT.  Next week they'll be right.  The microwave and stove clocks are easy to change so they will be changed over the weekend.  If the clock is in reach, it gets changed when time changes, if not, the clock doesn't get changed.  Nothing lazy about me!!!

Mary Ann

Jack, too much wind for me but didn't seem to faze Jessie.  I think I would be training her the "leave it" command right away.  ;)

Sato...good morning, I know you are looking in, it is 8.am here in UK...Just wanted to mention how much you are missed....I hope and pray you are now keeping well... We do very much miss your postings of photos and video clips.....Please continue to post when you are ready and feel up to posting, but in the meantime please let us know you are doing OK...

Shirley

Jack, had to laugh at you taking Mimi into the rest room.... Cas took our German Shepherd in with him one time & as he came out a man asked, "does she use the commode?" to which Cas nodded a yes... & said,"but she doesn't flush....."  He was dying laughing when we got back to the car & was convinced the man actually believed him.  I just placed another $50+ order with Chewy.... about once a month plus all chickens & salmon & dry food.  Sounds like good training tip... won't work with cats, they trained ME.

Jackie, when we lived out west of town we had an acre of land with a big garden.  We dug up & transplanted some seedling trees in a row in the garden so they didn't get mowed over.  At the time we had a bluejay that lived inside, in a cage but on my shoulder most of the day (it went back in it's cage to potty).  I had to cut twigs that it would hold between it's toes on the wooden perch & bam-bam with its beak to keep the beak in shape (seems the top part keeps growing if they don't).  One day my husband came in all upset because those little trees had all been cut half off & he thought I did it for the bluejay.  I went back out with him & pointed out the little rabbit poo all in a row by those trees.  End of mystery!

Mary Ann, the 2 clocks I don't know how to change will stay until my oldest son has time.  I have a couple clocks in the RV that stay on CO time & I just remind myself they will be an hour off when I go to MO.

Jean, are you finding spring early or is there much difference between the seasons?  I really don't know since most of my trips to FL & the south has been in winter.  Flowers everywhere during the winter~ but one trip was extremely cold.  I'd like to be there right now, bet the allergies would disappear.   8)

JeanneP, the wind changed so maybe some of the fires can't find anything they haven't already burned!  The farmers are in bad trouble with no hay left for cattle & lots of cattle burned.  Kansas lost a lot of farmland and houses.

All these fires over the years have caused lots of people raising horses to get out of the business.
My Texas daughter did. Had to give some away. We always had a large auction of horses here . Not had inlast two years .  Last had 127 for sale , 4sold. Found some abandoned out In fields across the states.
Hate typing on iPad. So slow. Need to turn desktop on.  Sitting here ,lazy morning. To cold yet too out.

I think I'll change a couple of important clocks so I get up on time tomorrow.  The one beside my bed and the one in the bathroom where I'll set the alarm.  I may see things through my eyelids after I get up, however.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

I will change the clock in the bedroom and bathroom. Those are so easy. Just push a button.  Rest I just leave. Never use the MW one or the kitchen. I can see the living room one from the kitchen.  Computer and phone change auto.  Will stay until about 7pm now before going dark. I like that.
Hope we don't get the snow they were saying was coming last night and today. Not here yet.  I even was able to get a good walk in today. Feel better for it.

Shirley, Larry and I were bothered with allergies when the trees started budding.  The rest of the year isn't bad.  The locals say we have had a warmer than usual winter this year.  There is one strange thing that happens here.  For several weeks in the spring we have occasional flights of termites at night.  Last year we had only been here about a month and I found 20 or 30 dead termites around the bathroom sink.  We have a skylight over that area and they followed the light which had been on.  My daughter had warned me this might happen but I was still surprised.  After that we were careful to keep the light off as much as possible for a couple of weeks and it only happened that once.  We've lived a lot of places but never heard of this before moving here.

jackwv

Was going to kid about  sun dials, looked it up and surprised there are some you adjust.

Had termites years ago, treated and none since.  They were in the ground and got into the basement.  Now I do get those darn stinkbugs, and they like the light and heat.   Have to get on a ladder to remove from my kitchen ceiling light.

Already I have had ants in the bathroom. Sprayed and put traps down and seem to have gone.
Already a mess on my Porch with darn birds making nests in gutters.  It is the kind were can't put in gutter guards. I have some wire things in there but they nest right above that. anyway I climbed up and put Moth balls all along for 20 ft. So far seem to have left.  It was a mess that I had to clean but after cleaning I don't see any thing dropping down.  Will get some more moth balls.
Fill all the openings.
JeanneP

Shirley

Jack, we have recessed lights under the eves of the house & porches front & back, "dusk to dawn" I discovered after Cas died.  I put LED lights in all of them, 8, I think, that fill up with bugs more often than I like.  I thought they wouldn't be any trouble since the bulbs are supposed to last about 20 years... but the bugs fill up in months!!  Don't know how they get inside, hard for me to pull the rims down to remove the glass, clean bugs out & put back.  Nice to be able to look out any window at night & see if anyone is lurking.  ;)  I wonder if putting a mothball or 2 in each fixture would keep the bugs away?  LED lights don't get hot ("they say"), wonder if it would do harm.....  The Dollar Tree had boxes of mothballs (everything a dollar)... & I find they did the trick to keep critters out of the berm.  Haven't had to do it again.

Jean, we used to get those termites in the pool when we had baby ducks to raise... since nobody went in the pool I would take the ducks out first thing in the morning & they'd zoom around catching all the bugs.  They loved the pool, would ride the vac hose when I cleaned.  I have not noticed the termites in years, wonder if because some of the neighbors had those "pods" of poison buried all around their houses.... we had our house treated a few years after we bought but never again!  So far we haven't had any bugs in the house, find dead spiders in the basement sometimes.

When we had a Chinese pagoda tree in front it would be covered with those black bugs that have a red stripe.  Covered the tree & yard... icky things~  Tree got hit by lightning, we cut it down & no more bugs.

Bedtime for me.  I need to get up about 5:00 am to feed cats, have a couple pieces of toast for me so I can take my weekly aspirin (only pill I take.. my blood thinner) & be ready to leave the house a few minutes before 7:00.

Ah, JeanneP, I see you found another use for mothballs.  We had house finches that built over light fixtures & other places on the house so one year I put out a feeder with one panel off, put a few twigs in it & they built a nest & raised 2 sets of babies that summer.

Sato

Vanilla-Jackie, thanks so much for your kind words. I am at home now.  But this time it takes a long time to recover my health.
Photos and Videos are my Hobbies. (S.Sato)

JACK WV...
...I can see why Oglebay is your favourite dog-walking spot... :) just wish we saw those many golds, oranges and reds over here in UK...

Mary Ann

Jack, I remember seeing this before and loved the different leaf colors.  I'm happy to say that in Michigan we do have lots of oranges, yellows, bright reds, dark reds along with the greens of the fir trees.

I also remember having to learn this poem in grade school but I don't remember what grade.  I was able to sing along with the video, however, I had some of the phrases misplaced or lost.

As Shirley said three years ago, it is a favorite poem of mine too.

Mary Ann

Joy

Jack, I, too, remember seeing this before.  And, it is still a beautiful video.   Thanks for sharing it again.

jackwv

Jackie, Mary Ann and Joy thanks.   We have been quiet in here, miss Sato and Sachiko.

Jean may be time for you to post several of your old timers.  (not Larry, the videos ;))

Mary Ann

Jack, on Trees, who was the singer?  I had the thought along the way that it was you, then an orchestra played and I decided it was not you.  If not, maybe Dennis Day?  Kenny Baker?  Both sang with Jack Benny and were tenors, as I believe you are.

Mary Ann

Lindancer

Jack, that was just beautiful, I had not seen it before. Thanks for the posting

Mary Ann guess I am a tenor but never sounded like that.  Had to look it up, giving the link and see that Bob McGrath was a regular on Sesame St.

Shirley

Jack, I have a problem today, my Windows 10 computer says "This Build of Windows 10 expired on March 18, 2017.  Locked up!  I can't get anything to work.... like a virus & I am afraid to call the number listed in case it is a virus.  I'm on the little 12" laptop & having trouble reading print, need to take it to another room/table.  Andy is out camping so can't ask him what to do.  Love your Trees!   :tissue:

jackwv

Shirley I take it you can get in here.   Go to this link, it is Microsoft.  I went to the bottom of the page to contact then arranged a phone call   I let them take over the computer and they solved a problem I had - no charge.  Reboot your computer and see if problem is gone, not sure if it is a scam, but the link I am giving is Microsoft.

On the link, don't buy anything, use the button and confirm no charge.

Mary Ann

Jack, I think Shirley said she is using an XP computer, not the one with Windows 10.  I think it sounds like a scam.

All's well..... #2 son came by & offered to cut down my pampas grass.... he does computers for a large company & travels the world for them teaching how to use programs he designs (or something). He knew what to do on the keys so fixed me up.  He said he'd never heard of this scam or problem so I showed him all the information about it on Google.... but nothing I found said it was a scam.  It is working fine.

I will probably need to wait until early morning to see the videos..... son couldn't believe how slow my internet is this time of day, especially Saturdays.... I tried the faster internet but couldn't tell the difference so figured I may as well not pay for something I don't get!

Mary Ann, my 7th grade teacher had us memorize poems like Trees, The Bells, etc.... and then the art teacher came & had us create a painting to go with which ever poem we chose.  Before it was over I memorized all the poems, only one required.  We really had a good elementary school & teachers.

Haha.... I thought I'd try the link & got to see it ....again!  I left the same thought about it when you first showed it as in here just now.  Love the photos & music!

I need to feed cats & think I am going to bed early.  Since the kids are out camping & gr-son & family visiting her parents in another state.... I'm going to sleep in & go to the 1:00 pm Mass.  I have to get up early for the sprinkler guys to come Monday morning.  I get my most restful sleep from 4:00 or 5:00 am until about 9:00 and have not gotten those extra hours in since having the flu for a month & then allergies since.  My resting heart rate is back in the 80s again, with plenty sleep I had it down to 60s.  Sweet dreams to all.

Mary Ann

Shirley, my grandmother lived with us the last seven years of her life and she died at age 92.  She could recite poems she had learned in school; had a remarkable memory.

Thanks for reposting, Jack.  I love that video.  The colors are beautiful.
