Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Rick, thanks that was beautiful.   When we sing that hymn I just close my eyes, but will now think of the beauty in the video.

Rammel that was just beautiful in pictures and sound.

Thank you, Joy.  I went back to the library at night and decorations were really nice.  Took a couple of pictures but it was too chilly to stay outside.

Don you have it right, Impressive, thanks.

Not on the level of Rick and Dons posts but wanted to post a link to Oglebays Festival of Lights.  I have played at taking video and never happy with it.   This is a bit long, 24 minutes but you are able to skip along when viewing.  The first part will show the Lights and then some info on this beautiful park that I am so fortunate to be able to visit almost daily on my walks. I have posted many photos over the years but this covers it all.

Jack, I can't believe I watched the whole thing!  I also watched the 8-minute presentation that followed.  Very impressive and I am sure there are many cities that would like something similar.  I know our Meijer Gardens is decorated for Christmas, but I don't think it's as extensive as Oglebay.  Most of their decorations are inside the main building.  I have never been to Meijer in the winter and someone would have to push me in a wheelchair and I hate to make someone work that hard for my benefit.

I noticed the announcer pronounced it Oglebee, but I would think that is a West Virginia thing.  Nothing wrong with it, just noticeable to a mid-Westerner.

While I'm at it, I thought I'd put in a few pictures of the Meijer Botanical and Sculpture Gardens.

Fred Meijer (pron Meyer) was a prominent grocer in Grand Rapids.  His father started with one store years ago in Greenville MI (about 30 minutes northeast of GR). Fred took over the business when his father died and branched out and now has supermarkets in several states and cities.  Fred died a couple of years ago and he had a collection of sculptures that he wanted to display so he created this Botanical and Sculpture Garden.  The displays are out in the open and kids are allowed to climb on them.  I used to be a member of the Gardens but I am not.  By being a member, I could get in free.

The main building houses a gift shop (of course), cafeteria, indoor plants, a tropical garden where in April they have a butterfly show, meeting rooms.  There are tram rides, go-carts for people like me (but I've never used one), a Japanese garden, a children's area, a farm.  I don't know if it is as large as Oglebay, but I think it is an entirely different concept.  I know I'd enjoy Oglebay and I'll bet Jack would enjoy the Meijer Gardens (as would everyone else).

Jack, I watched most of it.  I can understand why you and Mimi walk there.  It is gorgeous anytime of year.  Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie (TX) has a beautiful display each year.  We have driven through it several years but the last three years, we did the "Stroll".  It is three miles and you can go as fast or as slow as you want.  There were 1,300 people this year which included 18 of us.  Angela's two football player nephews took turns pushing me and her mother-in-law in wheelchairs.  Like Mary Ann, I don't like being pushed but walking to the mailbox and back is about all I can handle anymore.

Cathie, Angela and I went up to Sulphur, OK (our hometown) for their Christmas festivities last weekend. They really have done a great job decorating the town since we've been gone. The Chickasaw Cultural Center near there has a beautiful drive thru light display albeit smaller than Joe Pool, but I think nicer.

Mary Ann, when I read Jack's postings about Oglebay, I always call it Ogle-bee to myself :).  I've never heard it pronounced before.

Jack,  I have seen parts of the video before, but I have it saved to be able to watch the whole time when I have some extra time.  Lots of times, when I can't get back to sleep, I will come out and get on the computer.  So, that will be something that I can watch on my sleepless nights.

It is such an impressive place.  I sure wish I could actually get to see it.  I keep hoping and hoping.

Thanks for putting the whole thing here again.

Mary Ann we all give Oglebay the bee pronouncing.   I took a look at your link for Meijer Gardens and went to youtube for a few videos.  It is a beautiful spot.

Mary I am sure there are many beautiful spots around our areas, I also like The Phipps in Pittsburgh, but no dogs.

Joy it is worth a look and for you possibly a visit.  We locals take it for granted, but I would not be able to guess the number of times I have been there over the past 46 years, with my family and then with 4 different Golden Retrievers as company.

Mary Ann

Jack, thanks for looking at the Meijer Garden link.  The entrance is off the East Beltline, a major north/south road and they plant "in season" flowers along the road.

Seeing as how I cant get to Oglebay, I'll have to have someone take me to the Meijer Gardens to see the various Christmas trees they have.  I think the theme for the trees is one for each country.  You do have to pay to get into most of the Gardens, but if someone wants to have lunch, getting to the cafeteria is free.  Food is good.
