Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Mary Ann, I know the lyrics and tunes of lots of old time songs, but am not familiar with Sunflower Sue.  I plan to Google it today and see if I've heard it sometime in the past.

Hi Jack and Shirley.  I think I'll check out Chewy, too.  Is the web address Chewy.com or Chewy.org or something similar?

Have a nice day,

Sue

Mary Ann

Sue - Sunflower Sue, Sunflower Sue, sunshine and roses rank second to you!

That's all I remember of the words, I do remember more of the tune.  There used to be a soap opera that my mother listened to (before TV at our house - over 75 years ago) and I don't remember the name of the program.  Seems to me it was someone's harem and took place in Kansas.

I hope you are able to find it on the computer.

Mary Ann

Sue it is .com ( I did not link since we once had a rule not to promote, but this is not product but the staff), and hope I will soon again use their service.  When I thanked them for the flowers a young man emailed to say they are all pet people and understood.  He added just call anytime even if you just want to talk.  Now that is a fine organization.

Did not look up Sunflower Sue, but brought to mind an old song my father would sing back in the 30's   Believe I posted it in the old site, but here it is again.  Unable to locate it on the web.  This is my hometown for the last 56 years.

Mary Ann

I did look up Sunbonnet Sue and found two at least, both dating back to 1908 (I don't go back that far!) but looking at other songs listed, they all are old.  I think you'll get a kick out of them.

Great Jack.  You are the first Rapper that I can understand the words. Looks like a interesting area where you live.  Give me a place where could see boats and water and I would be happy.
JeanneP

FlaJean

Enjoyed your video very much, Jack.  Nice voice.

jackwv

Jean and JeanneP  thanks, gave up finding the song.  Jeanne, never went for rap, I was too mellow.

Shirley

I started my morning with hearing on the radio that this is Mickey Mouse's birthday.... and after the song going through my head for a few hours, had to call my sister to tell her... When we were kids she was was always singing "It's Mickey Mouse's Birthday Party, that's the place to be......"  Our twin aunts would always ask her to perform.... I wasn't bashful but would not perform..... but I'd sing when nobody was around.  How many of you can remember all the words?  "Comb your hair, shine your shoes, come along with me... it's Mickey Mouse's birthday party, that's the place to be".... My sister insisted she didn't remember singing it .... she's 4 years & 1 month older than I am & remembers only what she wants to.  ::)

I've got to get to bed, busy week end with our Thanksgiving family gathering is Sunday.  I am already in cooking mode & got a good start on what I'm taking.

jackwv

Speaking of old timers, do you remember Cliff Edwards (Ukelele Ike)   He had many old favorites, he did the voice of Jimini Cricket for "When You Wish upon a Star".   Was out to dinner with my sister yesterday and she asked if I recalled an old one of his that our father would sing to the kids (all 10 of us)   Told her I remembered and sang it remembering all the words.   Unable to now locate it on youtube, but here is a slideshow with his  singing "Broken Hearted"   Enter  his name  in Youtube for so many great old songs.

FlaJean

That was great, Jack.  Those photos were beautiful.  I don't remember seeing many of those before in one of your videos.  Your longtime memory is sure good.  Larry and I use to sing a lot of the old songs when we traveled.  I was singing Bicycle Built for Two the other day and couldn't remember one of the lines for a few minutes.  Don't like those "senior moments" ðŸ˜'

Shirley

Love the memories, Jack, you have such gorgeous photos of Oglebay during all seasons.  I am sitting for a few seconds between jobs.

Now to take a shower & wash my hair, starting with early church & breakfast then home to get the turkey stuffed & ready to bake for 4:00 pm gathering at oldest gr-son's house.  I baked the other turkey yesterday & was going to do the noodles today but decided they really don't stay the same after being refrigerated.... but nobody minds left overs.   ;)  Will cook them tomorrow while the other turkey is in the oven.  I've already got all the onions & celery chopped & turkey chopped to go in the noodles so the rest of it will go in with the other turkey to warm before it is taken to the party. Got it all organized in my head.   :-\

Everyone in the family supposed to be there & will take photos after.  Harder & harder to get so many together, I'm not sure why we are doing this Sunday instead of Thanksgiving.... but this is when the kids from Seattle will be here.  Maybe they didn't want to travel over the holiday?

jackwv

Jean and Shirley thanks.   I can remember words from an old song, but forget almost everything since.   When a teen our gang would play volley ball or ping pong, then go for hot dogs and root beer.  At that point none of us drank alcohol.  We would ride in the car singing many of the old timers.  Shame things are no longer that simple.

JeanneP

Oh! Jack. You are not going to sing that.
It is so funny how we can remember all the words to songs of years ago. Not many written today would be easy to remember.
I miss Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights now on TV. Show was on 20 years. I could sing all the songs from way back . Liked it shows that went back years.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

JeanneP, as far as I know, Lawrence Welk is still on our PBS station at 7 pm Saturday.  I watch the program occasionally.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

MaryAnn.  Now Lawrence Welk was taken off ours about 5 weeks ago. No idea why. I just don't understand how these PBS stations work.  I know ours is getting awful these days. Most of what they put on has been run many times.  Other than the Masterpiece Theatre ones that they do when asking for Donations. People tired of that. Use to be about 3 time a year but now about every month . It ties into out University here.
JeanneP

SCFSue

Jack, thanks for the video with Ukelele Ike.  Your photos from Oglebay park are beautiful--and I enjoyed Ukelele Ike's voice, but don't remember hearing him before this video today.

Sue

jackwv

JeanneP   will not sing but still know the words.

Sue I bet you have heard Cliff Edwards years back, he did the singing of Zippide do dah.  He had many hits but will not link here.

Shirley

I sure didn't recognize the name but love his tunes!!! Spent time with Google checking him out.  Thanks!  I am ready for a nap, made several trips to the river today & lots of running back & forth in the house doing laundry & putting things away.

Another big quake near Japan today.... suppose fracking cause that?    ::)  Really sad & hope our Japanese friends are safe.  It worries me that Seattle is in that ring of fire, I have family living there.

Tomorrow is the big day of arrival of gr-grandson.... we all all concerned but don't talk about "the pink elephant in the room"..... that since the 3 year old was born Mama had thyroid cancer surgery & extreme radiation.  So far all tests are fine.

FlaJean

Thinking about Sato and Sachiko.  We haven't heard from them in a while.  Hope they were not affected by the earthquake!

Please add me to thoughts and concerns on their ( Sato and Sachiko ) safety in Japan....and also for their medical issues....they are both sadly missed from our forum and their postings in the photo and video clip rooms...

JACK WV....
...now I am baffled, and it really doesnt take much to baffle me....but was that really your voice to your video clip (Way down on Main St (my voice)....).... or was it the voice of ( Cliff Edwards ) Ukelele Ike's?...have to admit I was not familiar with him but just listened to him on youtube and your voice certainly sounds like his voice....now please put me out of my missery... :-[ ;D

jackwv

Jackie I sang Way Down on Main St.    Cliff Edwards (Ukelele Ike) was on the other video.   Know many of you would have heard some of this others, like  "When you wish upon a star"   Check the link and you will see others.

Must be my day for confusion after Jimini Cricket was mentioned.....I remember a comedian named Jimmy Cricket..." the left foot, right foot man..."...so he knew which foot was which...

JeanneP

I have a small parrot here that always wants it own way. I bought for $29.95 last week a new type of seed holder as cleanup was a mess with it throwing seed around. This thing is about a 5inch closed in clear Plexiglass  feeder. It has to put its head in to eat. Well it screamed for 3 days each time wanted seed. Tries knocking it down and if covering it at night I could hear it trying to get it down. Didn't eat for 2 days. But I just left it.  Now I am watching and it has decided only way is to go in there and get to eat.  Animals can be just as bad as kids were. Throwing fits.

Well, my post disappeared.... Wanted to tell you, Jack, that I finally got your "Main Street" video to play.  Great job & you "still have the pipes", as Frank Sinatra used to say.

JeanneP, I am still giggling at the picture of your parrot throwing a tantrum.  We had a bee bee parrot that was quite a thinker....  it didn't like my husband & all he had to do was lift his hand in the air & wiggle a finger & that bird would take off looking for a fight.  Our daughter bought it when we were in MO.... when she was a teen & had her own money.  Smuggled it in the car but we heard it screech on the way home.  It lived through her high school & college years & stayed with us when she got married.  It survived a number of wild "rescue" birds, & life was entertaining, for sure.

Jackie, every year at this time I get sentimental about arriving in England ... felt like a dream world.  Quite a change for a 19 year old bride, traveling alone. Only had a few days before my new husband shipped out in Sept & took me until the first week of Dec to get my passport & shots .... to join him. He didn't have rank so the government didn't "send" me.... but couldn't stop me from traveling as a tourist to join him.  Long time ago and I never did get back for a visit to Marlow or High Wycombe.  My husband found the base, (Google Earth) where it had been some concrete slabs left where the "huts" were, and the house we lived in he found online, renovated & all that beautiful landscape filled with houses now.

Time to see if cats want to come in, supposed to get some rain, maybe snow flurries tonight & tomorrow.  Had a busy day getting everything taken care of "just in case".

JeanneP

Shirley.  You should have taken a trip back over to the UK. You would sure see some changes.  Now we had the Big Base. Burtonwood up in my area.  They used a lot of the roads and some of the Building that they Built. I drove by there few years ago.  All now got big Estates built on the Land.  They used Thousand of Acres.
Now my mother use to stay around High Wycombe in the Winters . Not as cold as the North was. When last there it hadn't changed at all.  Nice area.

Dreary day and I made the mistake of looking at some old photos and video.  It brought back some fond memories and  I assembled some clips of my Jessie, what a joy she was, and how fortunate to now have Mimi.

https://vimeo.com/194884337

Mary Ann

Jack, a great video and a nice way to keep the memories of Jessie alive.  Does Mimi have the feathers that Jessie had?  It doesn't seem to me she does.  Some dogs love the snow.  We had a Heinz variety, about the same size as Jessie, who loved to romp in the snow.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Mary Ann yes Jessie had the long feathers and always told the groomer to just trim them.   Mimi's owner groomed her and offered to do so in several months. I will ask about the feathers I like.
