Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Thank all of you for your comments.  Shirley, the 'Christmas Lady" has many volunteers and two railroad clubs also put their exhibitions there.  It is all free but they except donations.  It was a joy to see all the kids enjoying it.  Around the several train layouts it was fun watching the young dads and their (mostly) sons so interested in the trains.

There are some beautiful decorations in our neighborhood.  I'll try to get a few photos one night before Christmas.

FlaJean

Jack, I've enjoyed your last video of the snow so much.  I've viewed it several times and love the music.  Right now we are having rain, rain, rain, and I almost miss a day or two of that Maryland snow we had 30 years ago.

Vanilla-Jackie

No snow here in UK, it is very rare now to see snow falling over the Christmas holiday but, if and when we do have snow, January and February will be the most likely months...

JeanneP

Jackie.  They still get pretty good snows in in my families area in UK.  Not like we got when I was growing up though.  Getting so much rain the last month or so. Talked to them yesterday and was so cold. Not like ours here though.  We are having a deep frost. Everything closed down.  6 deg day and below 11 at night. My car had been dead but got a new battery in today. See what tomorrow does.  The battery in it was only 1 year old.

When we had snow in West Virginia when I was a child, Kanawha County pretty much shut down.  This only happened a few times that I remember.  My sisters and I had a sled which we pulled to town--about a 20 minute walk when it was snowing--no plows in those days.  The street near our Grandmother's church had a small hill and every kid in our town with a sled would spend a while sledding down it.

Then when I grew up, finished college, and married a new Naval Officer, we had 2 tours of duty in Brunswick, Maine, at the Naval Air Station.  The first tour it started snowing in October and didn't stop until May.  Since the P3Vs my husband flew had to deploy to Newfoundland, Iceland, Sicily, Rota Spain, etc. for 9 month on station tours, I shoveled a lot of snow.  The first winter there we had a 14 month old when it started snowing--and of course my husband was GONE!  I did lots of shoveling those 4 years.  When Bob was assigned to another squadron there, our oldest was 12.  One Christmas Eve the squadron was gone--it snowed so much that night that our front and back doors were covered all the way to the top.  I had to send the 12 y.o. out a window to shovel the doors so we could get out of the house.  We were going into town to have Christmas dinner with another Navy family in the same squadron.  The roads were clear, but only 2 lanes were open.  On the way home after the day in town, I came up to a little bridge and another car was coming toward us.  I stomped on the brake and our pick up truck turned right around in the road.  We weren't hurt, but we sure were scared.

Since Bob retired in 1978, we moved to Alabama and have only had one or two very light snowfalls that melted within the day.  One was at our farm and we just put on our boots and left it like it was.  After Bob died, I moved to Auburn and it has snowed twice here since 2004, but melted rapidly.

Snow is beautiful, but not fun when it has become so deep it has to be shoveled!

Sue.  But doesn't it seem like we had so much fun back in those days. I think that we handled them so well.  I also remember when snow would come down even here in Illinois same house. It would get up as high on the doors. I worked just a mile away and they would send the Maintenance man out with big equipment to did me out.  Most of other people at work would be getting the day off as they could not drive on the roads.  Of about 134 people at the place one day I remember just 5 of us got in. that was a full day. I had to be there because I took care of International areas and such as Australia, Japan etc and the Islands expect the phone answered. Could not believe the snow.
NOw I don't know if I could take all that mess now.   Even my car trouble last few days wasn't keeping me a happy person.  Things have to run smooth  for me
now. Went through the busted water pipes and wind damage twice. Did it now and I would be moving.  Don't know where though as every state seems to have something going wrong now.  We had 2 apartment building burn in my town here this past weekend making 18 families with no homes. I couldn't take it. Would just be taking insurance and heading away. That is one thing I make sure I have enough of.

JeanneP

Woops! just noticed where we are posting.  Photo's. better move it. Don't have any pictures.

Remember the sled riding, and long climb back up the hill.  Yes it was fun, but something I would not be able to do today.

Nice day today so short walk in the park.  We had rain so most of the snow is gone.  Here is a slide show I posted last year, I am Santa, and some snow scenes from Oglebay.

Very Nice, Jack.  And, Merry Christmas to you, also.

Mary Ann

Very nice, Jack.  I recognized Oglebay, but were some of the scenes from Pittsburgh?  I saw some tall glass buildings which I doubt you have in Wheeling.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, yours and everyone else who reads this folder.

Mary Ann

Jack, a very nice 2015 greeting card and still works for this year!

How does Mimi like snow on your walks or is it mostly rained out now?

jackwv

Joy, MaryAnn and Patricia thanks.   Yes a group of photos were taken in Pittsburgh at the PPG  building.  They have an ice rink and Santa Clause exhibit.

Mimi likes the snow, but do not leave her out long in it except for our walks.

JeanneP

Jack  That beautiful. I don't remember you posting it last year.  Now was there snow that heavy there.  Would love to see one snow fall again just like that for maybe 2 days.  I will send it up to the Connecticut kids. They still believe in Santa
Don't know about their 7 year old brother now.
JeanneP

Shirley

Okay, just how did you become Santa???  Love the show & the snow, we don't see it stick to the trees like that because of the wind.  Lasts only as it falls.  I wish I knew how you put the beard on... neat trick.  I've lost my "workspace" or whatever it's called on PSP and can't do much of anything with it now.  After the holidays I will see if I can find videos that will help with PSP or give up.  I don't know how you teach yourself how to use all the new features on the computer.  I thoroughly enjoyed the show, thanks! Shirley

jackwv

JeanneP that snow was from a prior year, we had several inches last week, but all gone.

Shirley that Santa photo was made with a photo app for windows 10, forgot which one, played with several and the one had the Santa and you simply added your photo.  I have not used any of the apps for sometime, but some clever ones without the need for Photoshop, that is over my head.

FlaJean

Enjoyed the video, Jack.  I do love those snow scenes.

jackwv

Shirley I went back to see what app I used for the Santa Photo.  There is a free app for Windows, it is Photofunia.   It has quite a few ways to use your photos.   Here is the Santa photo, and at the bottom I have several screen shots to show the simple steps of my photo and adding it.

While in there I used the Santa photo and another background to give you all this greeting.

JACK WV....
...very clever what we can now achieve, when we know how...

I can just see the " Braking News..." headlines...be prepared children, Father Christmas has arrived early this year....

Those apps sure make us look smart, don't they?  It is a fun idea.  I guess our photo competition has gone by the wayside.

Sure do miss Sato in this folder.  He kept me interested with all his questions and ideas.  We have some warm weather coming and I want to get out and take some pictures.

JeanneP

You guys are so clever with your camera's. Makes me feel so dumb.  Even more now that my GGrandson is making Video's with his IPad.  Wish some of these smart kids didnt live so far away. 3 Grands in Texas went thru Univ. for Computer Engineers.  Not one on mine lives in Illinois.

I want a Christmas like this one. Just go down a little as it is on my SIL Facebook.
JeanneP

Hey, I STILL believe in Santa.  He always leaves something for my stocking and a wrapped gift, too.  Santa is a "girl's best friend".  When I was a Cub Scout den mother in San Diego,  my cubs got the other dens all yelling at Santa with them for me to sit on Santa's lap.  So I did and the kids went crazy yelling about it and talking about it through the next couple of den meetings.  To this day, I don't know the identity of that  "Santa".  It had to be one of the dads.  My husband was away on an Air Craft Carrier in water off of Vietnam that Christmas.

Sue

jackwv

JeanneP  was unable to find the link in the Facebook you gave us.  Did not request being a friend, Facebook confuses me.

Sue that is a great memory, we are fortunate when we can recall so many good times.

Shirley

Jack, as you know, I don't do well with any of the "new" stuff but did find the snip it tool you told us about.  Thanks for that, I've used it a few times & really is handy.  After I get all the Christmas decorations put away I will see if I can figure out your latest offer.  You are so good with understanding & I am so dense.

I was another that dragged my sled (brother's) around to the only little hill in town & would go up & down as long as anyone else was around. Happy memories....

I don't do Facebook so can't get the link to work.   :'(

jackwv

I have to learn to put my jacket on prior to asking Mimi if she wants to go for a walk.  She really gets excited.   Here are a few clips.

Vanilla-Jackie

JACK WV...
....you know Jack, she makes the same sound our Benji used to make, I could almost swear it was Benji I was listening to....I cant stress enough what a great find, if " find " is the correct word, your Mimi was, she is coming along nicely and looks well settled in....

Mary Ann

Jack, if you put your jacket on first, soon you won't have to ask Mimi if she wants to go for a walk; she'll get the message.  I like the video.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Mimi sure was excited about that walk.  She is a beautiful dog.

Shirley

Love the video, Jack, it helps wipe out the memories of all those pitiful commercials to "save the animals".  She is living a dog's dream life & the thought of you saving her and she filling the empty spot that Jessie left in your life, is as good as it comes!

The end of 2016 went without hitch and looks like 2017 is starting with over-load of "to-dos".... that didn't get done today, mainly didn't get the Christmas decorations put away.  (I sure fractured that sentence, didn't I?)

Good night, all.  :bubbly: One last Happy New Year!   :bubbly:

Happy New Year!

Jack, Mimi is very pretty and is attractive!
As for me, it is awkward that I cannot make the video recently to take a lot of photos.
