Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

We only had a few inches of snow.  Took Mimi to the park, I walked and she ran and enjoyed.

Shirley

Jack, I really enjoyed watching Mimi run..... she seems to be happy every waking moment, thanks to you!

Rick, I tried over & over but couldn't get the link to work, think my computer needs some updates but I've
not been up to taking on the job.

3 weeks yesterday I went to Dr for meds... flu & sinus.  Been the sickest I have been my whole adult life & still coughing & ache.  Think I probably cracked some ribs but the doctors are so swamped I only went back once, week ago, to make sure I didn't have pneumonia.  Even 3 by-passes & new aortic valve didn't knock me down this long.  No more whining.... I have looked in daily but mostly sleeping all the time.

Love all the photos, babies & fur-babies.

SCFSue

Jack, Mimi is racing around in the snow as if she were a pup!  Great video--and Mimi is having a great time.  I'm sure it made you happy to see her enjoy it so much!

Shirley, I'm so sorry you're feeling so ill.  I hope you get better--and SOON!

Sue

FlaJean

Jack, good to see Mimi enjoying herself.  She is such a good dog and good company for you.

Shirley, I sure hope you are soon over this flu or whatever it is and back to feeling healthy again.

angelface555

Oh Jack, what fun she had! I'm sure you both enjoyed that day!

JeanneP

Mimi. She really enjoys being out there.. Now will she always come to you when you call here?  Good to have a dog that well trained.
Its in the 50s here today. quite nice.  Not driving at the moment but think I will take a good walk around the area.  Not getting enough exercise these days.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Jack.  On you last Video of Mimi running in the snow.  I couldn't get any sound. Thought was my speakers but tried every thing else that had to have sound and they worked.  Wonder why.  I will try some other things.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Jack , I went back and played some of the Video's you had put out along with other peoples.  All had sound. So mystery why that one will not play. Did you have music with it.? You usually always do
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP   sorry about the no sound.   I did not add music but removed the sound.  I did the video on my camera and about all you would hear would be my heavy breathing (but Mimi was doing all the running)    Mimi does listen well.  I have only had her 2 1/2 months. I make sure there are no distractions and she is increasing the distance prior to  checking on me.  I may have to call her twice but she responds.

JeanneP

Thats good she comes on your call.  Was running quite far away. Doubt many cars come down that road for her to watch out for.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP that is a walk trail, no traffic.  I would not take the chance around a road.

Vanilla-Jackie

JACK WV...
...your Mimi looks one happy and contented dog...I am sure you both enrich each others life...so lovely to see the smile on her face...

JeanneP

Jack. A great walk trail. Do lots of people use it?.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP I will reply in the photo discussion with a few taken today.

JeanneP

Jack.  How Mimi likes those walks.  Sitting on that bench you would think she was human. Like she is just looking and thinking.  I love those trails. Fact love everything about that place.
We have one place owned by the University that has nice trails and park. Takes about 10 min for me to drive there. Great in summer but to far for now. It is next to the Japan House and Gardens. They are a nice area to walk.
Can't wait for weather to warm up.
Did Mimi do well getting her fur trimmed.  Sat still. Smile on her face.?

Did anyone watch the Westminster Dog show the other day.  My town so proud. Had 2 dogs win.  One took Best in Show. A German Shepherd. Had done well over the years but suppose to retire last year. Decided to try one more year. Will now be used as Stud.  The other came in best in small breed. It is a 18 month old Pekingese name chuck. It seems to have done well in all the Dog shows this past year.  I am not crazy about Pekingese dogs.  When I was 13 I was bent over looking  in a store Window and one Bit me hard.  Yes in the behind.  I had to take the series of 12 shots and embarrassed having a male changing my dressing daily.
Got a lot of razzing at school. Hard to sit down.
Dog was destroyed  making the owner who had it a spoiled pet not speaking to my family ever again.  In UK back then you were just not given just one  Tetanus shot.  I don't think that they knew to give animals all the shots they have to take now.

A friend who lived across the street 8 years ago had one.  It was spoiled also and they seem to be a mean breed to me still.

JeanneP the German Shepherd is a beautiful animal and well deserving of the top award.   Golden Retrievers do not do well in conformation on the national level.  To me they are beautiful and tops in obedience and as a family pet.   I read and accept this offering as to why they do not hit the top in conformation.

(1) Breeds that have been bred for show less intensively or for less time tend to not be as picture perfect. A well-bred Golden is a dream to look at, but they are not as physically perfectly aligned with their standard as, say, any Wire Fox Terrier being campaigned.

(2) Breeds that are more moderate have a harder time standing out against other breeds. In the Sporting Group ring you have the Golden somewhere between the five other retriever breeds, four setters, etc. They are rightly a breed without extremes and can fade behind a flashier (and supposed to be flashier) English Springer or Irish Setter.

I love watching the Dog Shows.  Use to attend both dogs and Horse shows growing up as my family did shows.  Was a big picture which has gotten lost somewhere of my Eldest brother accepting the Award from the queen for one of the Hackney Ponies winning i in the Windsor Horse show.  Got lost when mum passed away.  Someone grabbed it.

Shirley

JeanneP, I've been calling on all my siblings & cousins to copy old photos & share via e-mail so they don't have to spend for prints.  I've done that with any of the old photos I copied from my parents & at one time made CDs to give one cousin of each family so they could make copies for their siblings.... and made them for my siblings so they could make copies for their kids.  I did get copies of my brothers that Mother had given each of us before she died, the studio photos taken when we were young.  She didn't give me mine but gave it to my daughter & she still has not scanned to e-mail me so I can send to each of my boys.  Mother said it was my "first colored dress".... she kept us in white until over a year old.

We had hackney races at the MO State Fair during the early 1950s, beautiful animals but I was concerned if they were in pain how they propped their tail so high & trained them to step so high.  It was "horsey" country & we had 10 days of shows of every kind & stables from all over the US would send their animals & trainers weeks early to prepare them for the shows.  My friend & I would be out at the grounds nearly every day, that was our year around playground.  Her family kept a horse stabled there all but the month of the Fair when it had to be moved to her uncle's farm.

I didn't watch the dog show, forgot about it!  We had a neighbor that raised silkies & Poms.... at one time had the top Pom in the US.  They took my 2 oldest kids to the Kennel Club so they could show their young pups for them .... good for their dogs & good for my kids.  Those young Poms are so attentive, wouldn't take their eyes off each kid as they were being shown.  Guess I will always be partial to dobermans because that's what I had as a kid & German Shepherd because that's what we had when our kids were growing up.  These cats are wearing me down so may never get a dog.

SCFSue

When I was in Jr. High, I lived with my aunt and uncle.  They had an awful little dog, I think a Pomeranian who was vicious.  It was my job to walk him daily--and to get him home without any altercations.  His name was Ginger and he was a Bad A**.  He tried to pick a fight every time we saw another dog or even a cat.  He was about 12 years old.  He only had one eye because when he was young and at the annual beach vacation, he got into a fight with a Great Dane.  I think the Great Dane bit his eye out, but Ginger, according to the witnesses, got rid of the Great Dane before anything else happened.

SCFSue

Shirley

Oh, Sue!  That is awful.... but reminds me of my cousin that had a little dog that fought anything.... my father used to laugh every time he saw it, called it a "Tasmanian devil".  Finally got killed in a dog fight & my cousin just said, "he died happy", when she talked about him.

JeanneP

Just got back from seeing the Movie "Lion"  Fantastic. I cried all the way through.

WAs at 2pm but place full.   Mostly all people with silver hair.  I sit way up in the top so can look down.  Soon will be 2 more good movies out.  "The Zookeepers Wife"
I have the LP book ordered.  And one called.  "British Kingdom" Something like that.

Real windy today and possibly snow weekend, winter not done.  Shame that flowers are coming up, hope they weather the storm.      Short video with sound of the wind.  View full screen.

Dogs will be dogs!

We have a lot of wind too and take a look at Grand Haven!  Our wind isn't as noisy as yours but mine is not on a video.  Tom read there are about 300,000 homes etc without power in lower Michigan.

Jack.  Wind not bothering her at all.  We are having the same.  Say will have snow storm starting Friday night and temp down to 13 deg.  Hope the wind gone by then. I figured that we would get something before winter was over.  Change our clocks Saturday night so will seem to get more daylight.

Some of my bushes were blooming but getting hit hard today.  I have some yard people coming April 2 to clean up the winter mess.  Hope it will all be over by them
Hard to get people in the summer.  My yard man I have not seen all winter. He has taken care of the grass cutting etc for past 20 years but he has reached 85 now so wondering what he is going to do.  Said he would never retire. Just hope he is well.

It is unbelievable how many fires are burning out west. Many homes in Oklahoma gone. Was showing lots of States this morning. Some must really be dry.  Hope again not people setting some of these fires. That along with the Burning of the Jewish Schools etc and religious building. Makes you wonder what is wrong with people these days. A little of it copied over at our University this weekend. Along with the Muslim temple.  There never seemed to be a these Religious problems years ago.

Shirley

There you are, Jack!  I've been worried about you, you haven't popped in with photos of Oglebay lately & I'm sure they are working on getting the hanging baskets started.  I get excited every year about those baskets, they are absolutely gorgeous and we can't have them here because of the wind.  I'm going back to see your video again, saw it once & tried to get it to play again and it wouldn't.  I know I need updates on this computer but with my sore eyes, I can't stay on long enough. Thanks for the video... and give Mimi a hug, don't blame you for dropping the camera & running.   ;D

By the way, you can't imagine the wind we've been having.  Last night the weather person was raving about the humidity being 9 or 11%... and that is extremely dry so fires keep popping up.

jackwv

Shirley I believe the baskets come after the tulips.   Would never trade you the winds and weather.

Mary Ann

We had terrific winds all day today.  Lake Michigan was beautiful with the blue sky, white fluffy clouds and a multitude of whitecaps.  The state had up to 300,000 homes without power at one time and it was announced it might take two or three days for power to be restored.  We did not lose power here but we went down the avenue where the signal lights were out for about a mile.

Mary Ann

Shirley

We are supposed to get a break from the wind tomorrow & a chance for rain on Sat.  Promises-promises!

I got to see Mimi again, she is so sweet looking..... her actions remind me of the mama cat that has come to live with me.  She seems so happy to be here, will follow me where ever I walk outside.... none of the others have ever done that.  So sad that I can't trust her to be in the house unless I have time to watch her every second.  She learns fast and remembers what I say.  I let her come in to eat with breakfast with the other cats & she remembers they like to go out into the pool area door as soon as they eat, so she goes out with them.  She likes to sleep late, think she is probably fairly old but not as old as LaurenKat.

Mary Ann, can you imagine those strong winds & dry conditions AND raging fires?  One county in KS has 85% of the county burned already.  Poor firefighters are exhausted, just no relief.

Can you imagine next week end is "spring forward" time already???  I dread changing all the clocks~
