Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Hal no I did not ask.  I grow only bushes and my Golden's ate everything else. :)   I do see the workers going around in carts with long poles feeding or watering.

Jack. I figured that they tossed those plants away after taking them down. They wouldnt have time to take care of them and without care they would die fast.
Our grocery store have nice flowers for sale but same thing. As the get older and no one buys they toss them out. (Never think to put on Sale).
Everything is a throw away item in the world now.
Now here they can no long have plants and flowers delivered to the hospitals or Nursing homes. People use to send but didn't figure no one to take care of them.

Now we have a big nursery here that put theirs to on side of the building outside with a big. "Free" sign.  I took some everygreens plants few years back and they are great looking now.
Did you ask him if you could have a couple. Chances are you could have kept them going until first frost.

This was taken yesterday.  Joined my son for a few beers, but just 2 high alcohol craft beers were enough.  Told him to enjoy another and join me a block away on the riverfront.  Nice view of the Ohio River and I sat in one of the chairs till he arrived.  (look - no weeds)   The city maintains the park.

Jack, halkel, thanks a lot for your comments.
This morning, it rains in 1 month after, and vegetables will be also to be relieved.

Sachiko3

Jack, it might be enjoyed with your son. And its scenery seems cool and is wonderful.

Jack.  Oh! those two chairs look perfect to be sitting and relaxing. I would have brought a bottle of beer and lasted there the whole day.
If 2 of the US. High Content beers get to you here then you could never  do the English beer. Much Higher Alcohol there.
We went down town Champaign  here last Friday as it is like New Orleans on Friday. Lots of Bands and Entertainment. They are getting some big places making their beers now. Bartender let us try about 4 Intl. Ones (small glass). I swear I could feel  it and so never bought a big glass.
I am out in the country a couple miles and now a large one just opened by me. Big Sports bar along side if the brewery. Got to check it out. See if they give samples. I did find one I liked . A Irish mild stout. Not as strong as Guiness.
People always said that I got Tipsy just from the SMELL OF THE BARTENDERS APRON.   its true.

Jack that hanging basket photo is gorgeous!  Not much success with them here (because of wind).... but at least they can't get smothered out by the Bermuda grass & that creeping Charlie.... that I've always heard called "ground ivy".  My yard is almost nothing but that now (okay, I exaggerate a little)....  & it is as bad as the Bermuda runners for taking over flower beds & smothering out the fescue grass.

Rick, a year or so before Cas died he had a company spray with the guarantee they could get rid of the ground ivy.... after a few treatments without ANY improvement, he paid them off & canceled their treatments.  They didn't argue, think they were glad he paid (it was a multi-treatment).  Cas loved working in the yard, his therapy.    I never heard it called creeping Charlie so Googled.  That's what I have!  We talked to several spraying companies and they acted like they didn't know the name so we just kept calling it ground ivy.  I'm surprised, they only called it "broad leaf".

We had neighbors that had a lawn full & didn't make any attempt to get rid, so is a losing battle.  Besides, the river bank is full of all kinds of weeds including a native runner grass that looks like Bermuda to me.  As far as the Bermuda, it can grow & take over as long as I can keep a few spots for flowers.  I am wicked with my little Black & Decker weed whip, it will cut  into the ground to trim those runners!   The berm is waiting for me to attack again, it is a disgrace.  Some things I want to save so can't just kill everything.... and it's such a worry with the cats all using the berm as a playground.... besides what it does to contaminate the bugs that the birds eat.  I have a whole RubberMaid storage unit holding every kind of weed & bug killer that #2 son knows how to use from his college days of grounds work at the golf course, but I hold off with cats & birds that will die from it.

Sachiko, so sad the veggies didn't get to grow as large as normal, but they are beautiful and from what I've always heard, they are still packed with vitamins no matter the size.  Hopefully they will help you get stronger, faster!  I've never seen pumpkin that color!  Thanks for sharing the photos.

Hal, when we lived in the KC area we had a couple huge, old Bradford pear trees in the front yard.... that gave me the creeps.  They had what looked like silk spider strings hanging down all over, with worms dangling on them.  We only lived there 2 years & got to admit, I had forgotten all the different types of bugs liveing in that damper climate.  A maple tree that hung over the driveway by the garage door (4 level house with driveway that opened on 3rd level down).... icky-sticky stuff fell all over a car parked under, even for a short while.  Local nursery explained it was mites or something like that, to spray with some bug killer & add a squirt of dish washing liquid to make the spray stick to the leaves.  It worked.

Jack, that is a beautiful scene with the chairs, lush lawn & bridge in the distance.... and that is what a river should look like.  My Arkansas River is more like what we called a "creek" back in MO.

Sachiko, JeanneP and Shirley thanks.  I enjoy my little trips.  Owe a visit to my daughters in Virginia but will wait till fall.   It seems this time of the year the weeds want to take over and I do not like to spray.  Just will have to survive another winter and the lawn always looks great in the spring.  We have had decent rain but the hot weather has been tough on the lawn and that is when the weeds pop up.

halkel

Shirley, Jack, I have a theory about lawns and weeds, especially since the drought that we had for four years.  If it's green and grows, leave it alone.  Just cut it and enjoy. ;)  I have found over the years once things get back to normal and you get the normal rains that weeds don't like to be cuddled.  The grass comes back and weeds get crowded out, well most of them... ;) with regular care.

And I only grown flowers in small flower beds (or did) or containers.

How wonderful to see you, your family, Don at the studio and Pat! Thank you Bubble! Is Aviv now bilingual?  ;)

JeanneP

Bubble.  Such great pictures of you all. I am sad now knowing that you have left.  KNow you had a great time though.  Traveling is hard now but well worth it.  I am sure that grandson feels like Don is his Grandfather. He was quite young when Ben Past so most probably doesn't remember much.
Let hope there will be a way for you all to get together again.

Good to see photo of Pat. Hate to hear she is having some Med problems these days. We have all know each other for many years now. Hard to see the changes as the come. But Accept them.

Don one can tell just loves doing that Program on a Sunday. They will not want him to end doing it. Many listeners also. He is good at what he does. Should have taken it up as a Career years ago. Would have been great. Has a beautiful speaking voice.
(I forget that every one can read what is written here). O.K though, Don know we are proud of him.
