Jack, I do an All-Star Puzzle every day and today's puzzle was of a locomotive (engine?) from Cass Scenic Railway of Cass, West Virginia.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann we were there years ago, it is an old logging train that rides up the mountain. Shirley was worse than me with height and did not want to take the trip, but we watched the train come in and leave.

Those are certainly very good moon shots! I wish I might have seen it here. Unfortunately, which is often the case here in the Arctic, the freshly falling snow and clouds didn't provide anything more than a white day or a black night.

Jack, I seem to remember you posted some photos of that or something similar?

jackwv

Patricia I had no luck this year.  Two years ago took this one, was not in Photobucket, but I may have posted.

Great shots of the Moon. I forgot to go outside and see it.  This getting dark before 5:30 I don't like already.  Makes the day short as I don't get up to early. Slow starter and seems can't get much done outside.

Jack, the moon looked exactly the same last night as it did a couple years ago. It was really orange-y as it came up over the mountain.

jackwv

Trish the two are so close in view.  Mine was taken August 8 2014 and the view is almost the same.

Jack, I was speaking of the old logging trail. But on further reflection, it was something you did with going up to  view, perhaps in or no longer used in Pittsburgh?

Shirley

Great shots, Jack, Jackie & Trish!  I am jealous that my moon was just "black & white", not that gorgeous fiery look. (I had to look up the spelling for fiery)...  Jackie & Trish, I really like the shots through the landscape & clouds, I can't get those kind since my angles would be only roof tops.  Jackie, yours looks like the ones we see for Halloween, spooky~  Jack, yours looks like an orange with the first layer of peeling off & can see the sections.

Speaking of oranges.... (I know this isn't the place but how my mind works... :crazy2:  ) , we are getting only little dinky oranges (not the ones meant to be little).... at all the stores.  Y'all getting any of the big ones this year?  When my kids were little they wrote their letters to Santa & St.Nick (Dec.5 or 6) would pick them up & leave us a stocking with some nuts, an apple & orange & maybe jacks or Old Maid cards or something little... and a few pieces of penny candy.  That was such a thrill until I was about 6 & my youngest brother decided I was old enough to quit playing dumb & said to me, "you don't REALLY believe there is a St.Nick, do you? "  Naturally I had to act like I was just playing the game .... so that ended it for us.  My kids got their stockings until they were married & beyond.  Only my daughter kept up with the tradition that came from my mother's father whose parents or gr-parents actually came from Germany.  His wife/mother was French but my gr-father carried on that tradition in honor of his parents. I'm a mix of different cultures & pick the happy memories to pass on.  Which brings me back to asking if this is just a bad year for oranges?

Thanks for the comments about my moon.... I'm trying to catch up on the sleep I lost 2 nights in a row.

The last one of mine is also about the same angle.... taken in the evening.  The morning shot has the "core?" on the opposite side.  I'm on the wrong computer but have a good shot taken in March of this year on the other, I thought it was bigger than this time.

Patricia, are you talking about that sort of escalator that Jack showed one time... looked scary to me, going almost straight up a bank & think you are right about Pittsburgh....

Checking in prior to turning off the machine, early Dr. appt in morning.   Patricia and Shirley, here are two I posted previously.   This is the Duquesne Incline that climbs the hill across the river from downtown Pittsburgh.  It dates back to 1877.    Height bothers me but this ride does not and worth it for the view.   Two shots.

Yes!  That's the one I was thinking of, Jack!  Good for you.
To be honest, it looks scary to me (I never trust maintenance on those things).... and I'm not bothered by heights at all.  I'd give it a try.  Only one thing I would NOT do & that is walk out on that platform in Grand Canyon.... I'd barf then & there~  I had misgivings about standing near the edge for fear the dirt would give way & I'd be sliding down.

JeanneP

I have driven by Pittsburgh in past years but never knew they had something like that there.  Can't say I like to use them. I have in Europe as I never was good at walking up hill.  O.k Coming down.  I never did like to take these rides such as they have in such as Disney World and places.  They are getting some really wild ones all over the country these days. Never liked Carnivals. Fairs, Circus's.  Love zoos

MaryAnn. Just went into Grand haven at 4:30 pm today. Looks like a Red Sunset. Great picture. Also looks like a couple of small campers on the beach.

This is a new forum for me.    I have a question about the Gallery.    Guess I haven't visited there since the change of Seniors and Friends.     When I tried to add a photo today the format was so different and in fact I couldn't find my gallery.    I went through the directions for adding a photo but nothing happened.    Has it all changed?

maryc   sorry, no help here I quit using the gallery.  I resize my photos and put them into Photobucket.

Say hello to Mimi    You are aware I lost my Jessie last month.  She was with me for 15 years.  I at first thought no more, but within two weeks had my niece help to locate several adults.  The first was just 3 but high energy and the breeder/owner was concerned with my age (Guess I should be)  I then viewed Mimi, an adult female that turns 8 on Jan 2nd.   Concerned about her age but a beautiful, lovable Golden that comes from a healthy line.   I just got her yesterday, but a dream to walk with.  Here is a shot of her in my yard and two photos from Oglebay today.  No smile on the first, but gave me the Golden Smile on the second. Only got part of the ice sculpture, did not want to back too far away for the photo.

halkel

Jack, I do believe you got a winner there.  Beautiful animal and I know you both will become close friends and companions.    :congrats:

Mary Ann

Jack, Mimi looks like a winner.  Did you choose the name or was she already Mimi.  Having had a golden in the family, I know how nice they are.  I'm very happy for you - and Mimi.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Hal thanks we are already bonding.

Jackie, know you are suffering the loss of Benji, take care of yourself with the health issue and you may someday get another pet to love.

Sandy thanks, winter on the way, just 45 today, now have to yearn for spring.

Mary Ann   her name has been MiMi for 8 years, I would not think of changing it.

SCFSue

Jack, I'm happy for you and Mimi, too.  It sounds like the beginning of a great relationship.  Big hugs to you and Mimi!

Sue

angelface555

I agree with all of the above statements Jack. When I lost Sarah in April, I also said no more. Then when Pet Pride called me in early May, about another abused female cat, I couldn't say no. Farrah isn't  your average cat, but we need each other as you and Mimi do. Congratulations on your new lady!

Shirley

Well, Jack, I have tears of joy to see you & Mimi finding happiness.  She is a beauty, almost a cross of Zoe & Jessie.... Jessie from the side shot & last shot in front of the ice sculpture.  Zoe in the face in the first photo.  She will get used to your camera.     I am so happy for you (and bet Chewy will be, too!)  So much nicer to have someone to talk to around the house, isn't it?

jackwv

Sue, Patricia and Shirley thanks, sure is great to have the little lady here with me.  Now tonight hope we both get some sleep.  She has a problem with me up every few hours, so I just put on a jacket and take her outside for a short trip.  With photos too soon to take off the leash, but she really listens.

so_P_bubble

On that second picture, did you put the carpet out for her? :)  It should have been a red one: she looks a real lady.  Congratulations.

jackwv

Bubble each year they have an ice sculpture of the sleigh and reindeer placed on the front lawn of Oglebay Mansion.  They have green on the ground and the red on the seat of the sleigh for folks to pose their children.  Mimi was not inclined to jump on the seat.  Only having her one day I did not want to chance stepping back for the full view of sleigh and reindeer.   This is a separate shot of the reindeer.  Sorry to say the sculpture will melt in several days.

FlaJean

Congratulations on getting Mimi.  The very best to both of you.

Jack. So happy hearing you have found a new dog so soon. Looks Beautiful. perfect age. Soon she will have a smile on face like your others. Such a good home she has now got. We now look forward to many photo's of you walking in the park again.

Bet you feel much better. You have to have a dog in the house. Enjoy this beauty.
