Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

It is certainly geared for the young and fit...
..that sea is looking mighty choppy today...

I've really enjoyed the photos, Don and Bubbles.  The climate is very different from Canada's isn't it?  I imagine you are enjoying the warmth, Don.

Lindancer

Don I love that picture of the surf.  When I lived in Southampton if a storm was coming my son and I would always drive down and watch the storm.  Our mister use to go to the ocean to write his weekly sermon.

What great photos and I love seeing all of these, Don and Bubble! I'm jealous you live in such a great place with so much available! I know there are downsides, everyplace has some, but it all looks beautiful!

Do you know, I have been on ships in inland passages and gulfs, ridden by the sea in California and Florida, but never had the chance to dip even a toe in the salt water?

JeanneP

That was a great shot of the Surf.  I use to love watch the surf come in in the UK. Even if it was stormy .  I love a beach like yours seems to be Bubble.  Not crowded . All those step would be nice to always walk down but I don't know if I would like climbing them back up.  Good thing they have a elevator.
Don.  That walker does look handy for sitting.  Suppose it folds up small so you can carry of do you just hang it on bubbles chair. Did you take it with you from home?

The manager of the Radio Station here in town just got back from Israel. His 12th trip. Loves going.  Takes a group with him. Fact he has 10 already wanting to go in Spring of 2018.  I am tempted to see if I can get on the next trip.  Weather looks perfect for me at that time going by your photo's.  I can't do HOT summers.

With Purim fast approaching we began our preparations by making ozmei aman, also known as Haman's ears. First came the rounds which Bubble cut with such expert precision.

Radioman34

This was followed by the application of measured dollops of filling, a task assigned to me by my mentor.

Then the rounds were shaped into ear-shaped triangles and voila! Ozmei aman: Haman's ears

Wow, I want some!

That is one of the few books in the bible to show a woman as something other than scenery.

JeanneP

Don.  You look so serious doing the filling.  Now was that dates you were using.
You don't look like all this baking is putting weight on.' They look so good. Makes a lot of them. Party at Bubbles home?

This is a recipe for the HAMAN'S EARS.

ngredients

1 Stick margerine or butter (softened)
    1 cups sugar
    1 large egg
    1 tsp vanilla
    2 tsp baking powder
2 cups wheat flour OR 1 cup white all-purpose flour and 1 cup wheat. (All white works well too.)

FILLING apricot preserves. You can use any fruit butters, jam, or pie fillings. Traditional fillings are poppy seed and prune.

NOTE: This is 1/2 of the recipe as shown in the book and made two dozen cookies.

Directions
1. Cut butter into sugar. Blend thoroughly. Add egg and blend thoroughly. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, blending thoroughly between each.
2. Put the batter in the refrigerator overnight or at least a few hours.
3. Roll it out to about 1/4-inch thickness and then cut circles with a cookie cutter or use a drinking glass. (From Beth Moore: Make them at least 3 inches in diameter so you have room to fill and fold them over!)
4. Put a tablespoon of filling in the middle of each circle. Fold up the sides to make a triangle, overlapping the sides as much as possible so only a little filling shows through the middle.
5. Bake at 375 for about 10-15 minutes, until golden brown.

Don can open his own little bakery when he gets home.

Must say, you two are keeping busy & looks like fun to me!  I'm impressed with all the delicious looking foods & amazed how much cooking & baking goes on.  I'm afraid I have gotten lazy with nobody to cook for, so easy to hop in the car & pick up "fast food".  You both look great, having fun does a lot for the spirit, right?  Thanks for the pictures!

JeanneP

I have been on my own now for 49 years. Never did like fast food even back then. Not as may places years ago. Now that is all that we seem to have here. They go on for blocks on every street.  Always the parking lots full. Can never figure in such a small 2 twin towns like ours have all the restaurants can make money. But seem like people eat out more than cook. Specially after their kids leave home.  I just dont like other peoples food.
Weather is so bad here at the moment. Not really cold but so windy. they are saying Snow on Friday. Don't think we have seen the end of winter yet.

Have to say, you two work well together...Don is this your new career move, from Santa Claus to Chef?
...I read the cookies are also known as Hamantashen...( Hamantaschen )..two spellings for the word..

When was the last time Jack was in?  I'll bet Oglebay is popping with flowers coming up.  I don't remember when they put out all those gorgeous pots of hanging flowers.

I'm not spending as much time on the computer with eyes going crazy because of pollen & now smoke.  Woke up with them stuck shut for several days now.  I have rubbed them raw & is worse with the bright light of the computer.  So far it hasn't been a great 2017 around here, hoping for rain Sat, we are SO dry.  Everything starting to bloom, no sign of snow/freezing so guess winter may be really over.

Mary Ann

Shirley, I don't remember if you've ever mentioned humidifiers or not, but do you have one?  They can be a very good help for dryness in the house.  I know you can't tolerate most meds but have you ever tried Visene for your eyes?  I find when I watch TV or am on the computer that I don't blink as often as I should (and my optometrist agrees with me) and by putting drops in my eyes once or twice a day relieves the itching.

I try not to recommend anything because we're all different, but I did think I'd mention the humidifier and eye drops.

Good afternoon Sunny, and no wind.

Shirley, My eye doc. told me to put drops in 4 times a day, for dry eye. I use Systane Ultra That was the fist sample he gave me.

I do not think Jack has been in here for a while.

Jackie,  Maybe that will be a cook for Don  2nd job :)

I have been here, no change in routine.  Have been looking in but nothing to offer.  I did just post a very short clip of Mimi taken today.   Sunshine but windy.  Tulips have not opened but lots of daffodils and the Star Magnolia are in bloom.

Shirley

Cute clip, Jack!  I'm going back to watch again, it wouldn't let me do a "re-run".... I think I need updates.  How about showing us those big gardens of daffodils.... please?

Mary Ann & Gloria, it is the skin around my eyes that gets totally dehydrated & almost paper like.  I've tried every cream on the market for around the eyes & only thing that has helped is Ponds cleansing cream (green cap). I just bought 3 jars (buy 2 get 1 free)... and they have changed the formula!!!  I opened all 3 & then went out to the RV to try the old jar & it helped a lot.  Need to go bring it inside since it did work.

I do have a new filter in the humidifier on the furnace & that helps the house (with wood floors it is a must).... but it is just my own body seems to create it's own antihistamine.... and it gives me an overdose.  That's the only way to describe it.  I did try eye drops, different kinds & each burned like acid.  I do wash my eyes with saline solution & do have the nasal saline solution, but nothing helps this year.  I don't stay inside because the cats will bring the pollen in anyway.  When we first moved to Wichita in 1964, was the first time I every had any allergy problem. Thanks for the suggestions.  Used to only be in the fall but has grown to year around now.  I'm sure the cats don't help, but no sense going for allergy tests unless I'm willing to do what they say.... and that'll be the day!

Shirley I do not use drops.  Doctors say I have dry eyes but no need to use if they do not bother me.  They recommend using baby shampoo on the eye lids.   I do that several times a week.

The daffodils are just starting to come up, more photos later in the week, I hope.

Mary Ann

Shirley, in December I had surgery for skin cancer and it was under one eye.  The doctor told me to use Vaseline on the incision to keep it moist.  I did use it for a while and had no trouble with it, but I wear glasses and the Vaseline smeared my glasses and it was difficult to get it off.  Anyway, that is another possibility.  I don't have a solution for every problem a person may have, so I won't keep offering you solutions.

I take prescription eye drops at night but during the day I may use Visine and fortunately I do not have any problem with that - no burning.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

Jack.  Doesn't that baby shampoo get in your eyes? Never heard of it.  I just use a over the counter for dry eye.  Systine usually.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP   We have used baby shampoo since I was a kid.  It does not irritate the eyes, and I even rub the lashes.

JeanneP

Going to give it a try. I at times feel like I have dust on my lashes. Hate to rub eyes
Do you just use the regular Johnson baby shampoo. Nothing with additives. I notice now they have all kinds. Ones suppose to put baby to sleep and a lot perfumed. I can't use anything with additives in them. Not even for laundry
JeanneP

MaryTX

Jeanne, use the original Johnson's Baby Shampoo.  My eye doctor recommended this years ago as my eyelids near the lashes sometimes get grainy.  It could dust in the air that adheres to the lids and lashes.

As I also have dry eyes, she told me to get "Soothe XP  Xtra Protection" eye drops and use one drop morning and night, and could use another drop during the day if my eyes really feel itchy.

I had a dandruff like condition on my eyelids, but do not anymore.  Still use the baby shampoo, no additives.

Possible condition
Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids in which they become red, irritated and itchy and dandruff-like scales form on the eyelashes. It is a common eye disorder caused by either bacteria or a skin condition, such as dandruff of the scalp or acne rosacea. It affects people of all ages. Although uncomfortable, blepharitis is not contagious and generally does not cause any permanent damage to eyesight

Joy

Jack, I had the same problem with dandruff on my eyelashes and the eye doctor told me to use the baby shampoo.  I still do, when I think about it.  My oldest son had the same problem.  Never had heard about it until it happened to me. I hadn't ever noticed it before.

BIG BOX

angelface555

My eyelids are red because I rub them. My eyes seem to secrete stuff at night that dries rock hard onto my lashes. I think instead of burning my eyes in the morning with soap, I will get some of the Johnson's "no more tear" baby shampoo.
