Shirley the photo is on the way.  Just the males have antlers.  That plant is in the garlic family, believe it is Allium. It has beautiful blossoms, but not long lasting.

JaneS

If those are whitetail deer like we have in this area, those young bucks are what is termed "in velvet".  Meaning the antlers are not through yet.  They are very young and very beautiful.....Sorry!

Jane, will take your word on that.   Guess hard to tell when young.  Looking up close I see they both have antlers.

No confusion here.  Took this photo from the window of the SUV

...you have exceeded yourself..what a great close up capture...you must enter it into a wildlife photography contest...you would be in with a very good chance...

Jackie, thank you.  I was driving by the small lake and the deer was getting ready to cross.  I simply stopped and got that photo.  I have a good camera, and one good eye (the other a lazy eye)   I simply point and shoot, never use adjustments on the camera.  What I see with my good eye is on the camera and that is it.  Fortunate to have the park that offers so much.

Shirley

Jack, have to laugh at the last deer.... looks like he put on his "robe" too fast and forgot to zip or button it up.  I've never seen those markings or fur folds before.  I think you got a most unusual shot!  I'll go check mail.... thanks.

Jane, think you are right (now that you mention it).... I couldn't think of the term.

Vanilla-Jackie

Just a moments thought but...I wish our Sato was back with us posting...Sato if you look in, you are missed but not forgotten...

Todays photo.  Lots of color, some flowers dying but always something new.  Here is a long row of flowers, do not know their names, just enjoy.   Nice walk and 75 degrees.

Jack. Looks like that last deer photo it looks like it was taught by its mother to look both way before crossing the road. I remember what we use to say to the girls when driving around in the country here. So many deer at a certain time of year. We have the Signs everywhere saying. Stop deer crossing here. they thought that meant that the deer were not allowed to cross there.  They killed almost 200 thousand in Illinois last year. They are heavy this year. Sounds so cruel..

FlaJean

Jack, that is a lovely garden.

Mary Ann

Pretty garden, Jack.  I think I recognized some of the flowers but won't attempt to try to name them because I'd be wrong.

Mary Ann

Pat, JeanneP Jean and Mary Ann thanks.  They had small signs but I never take the time holding Mimi, to wright them down.  Never would remember, enough to just find my way back to the car.

JeanneP they once had a recording of a woman calling in to ask them to move the deer crossing to a spot where it was safer for the deer.  They claimed she was serious.

Shirley

That is big WOW, Jack!  I have not seen any flower beds like that this year.  You are SO lucky and so generous to share the sights with us.  At least you get to see the deer up close and nobody driving fast.

I think I read that KS had about 10,000 (more & less) car/deer accidents last year.  Over populated areas need to be controlled, but in my mind it needs to be done "with a purpose".  My father never considered hunting a "sport".... even in my years, especially during WWII, not only my father but most men I knew hunted and fished to feed the families.  We have hungry people that could use the meat (ground deer meat makes delicious taco meat, I understand).  A special hunting season with places set up to butcher, package & freeze would be a help feeding a lot of people.  Not only would it control the deer/car accidents, but hunters would have the satisfaction of continuing a lifestyle their forefathers practiced, and all this with NO cost to tax payers!  Amen~~

Haha, Jack, I was in a store one day when a lady was arguing with a sales person about the batteries she bought that had about a 3 year expiration date.... only they were dead because she had used them.  She was sure they were supposed to last all those years!!!

Jack and Shirley; I can do you one better. Each winter, Denali Park publishes a booklet listing odd and humorous questions they get asked by tourists each year. Denali Park, Home of the highest mountains outside Everest is large, "Denali National Park and Preserve is a national park and preserve located in Interior Alaska, centered on Denali, the highest mountain in North America. The park and contiguous preserve encompasses more than 6 million acres (24,500 km2)."

One from a couple of years ago was from a woman wanting to know where all the locked up animals were kept each night....

I looked for info on moose-people accidents as moose at an average of two tons are the largest of the deer family. This is what I found.  "Did you know: Per mile driven, Alaska has one of the highest rates of moose-vehicle collisions in the world!

Hundreds of moose are struck and killed by motorists each year on Alaska’s roadways. While the majority of wildlifeâ€"vehicle collisions involve moose, other large mammals including caribou, bear and bison cause accidents too. Roads often cut through an animal’s home range or travel corridor, creating a safety hazard for both people and wildlife. The situation is exacerbated in winter months when it is difficult for drivers to see. In addition, deep snow can push wildlife into oncoming traffic. Cleared roadways offer easy travel when drifts grow deep, and young trees and shrubs growing along highway margins can attract hungry moose. Most roadkills occur during the dark, snowy months of December, January and February; however, there is another spike in the number of collisions in June due to the movement of cows with their newly born calves. Drivers should be on the look-out for moose and other wildlife near roadways any time of year."

OK, you asked for this, so let's see what you do with it:

Jack, there is or was a blonde joke where the lady asked how the deer knew where to cross if they couldn't read.

I think our usable roadkill is given to non-profit institutions.  I live in Kent County in the lower half of the lower peninsula, yet we have the highest number of car/deer accidents in our State.  While we have forested areas, we also have several main highways in the county and that accounts for the many accidents.

Talking of crossing signs...reminds me of our large red sign we see over here when out driving, saying, danger " Heavy Plant Crossing " :o always makes me laugh as I am imaging  " The Day of the Triffids " when all it really means is heavy goods - large machinery crossing alongside the opening to an Industrial plant...

...what a colourful display of flowers, would brighten up anyone's day, when dog walking past them...

Jeanne Lee...
...seems like you bowed down to everyone's pressure... :D yes the resurrection of " give me a photo " has been resurfaced, thank you...

jackwv

Some great stories posted.   Shame everyone is not as sharp as our little group. :)

Jeanne Lee  Thanks for setting up the "Give me a photo of"  now hope everyone will take a look in, post photos or simply make a request.

Shirley

I love the "Give Me A Photo".... and will have to go back to using the other computer for resizing & finding the right photos!!!  Glad to see y'all jumping in with new ones.

Many camera's have multiple settings but I do not know how to use, so simply point the camera and take the photo.   Not cheating to then touch the photo up for posting.  You are working with what you and the camera have seen.   Windows 10, photo app is a great way to work with photos, new and old.

Wanted you to see two photos, the first is intentionally crooked and too much in the foreground.   The second, the thumbnail, is with the program and a few simple (really simple) adjustments to straighten the photo, crop and add a bit of color.

Click on the second

Mary Ann

Jack, since I have Windows 10, is the photo app already part of my system.  Or is it something I download - or what!  I have never posted pictures because I haven't taken the time to find out how and even now, I don't take many pictures anymore, except of the cat or younger generations.  I do have an icon for the Store.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Mary Ann you will appreciate the program even working with old photos.  I comes on Windows 10.   Sorry, some reading, but take a look.   You do not have to go to the store, you should already have it.

Shirley

Jack, that is a wonderful link.... I bookmarked so I can go back & do "step by step" when I have time.  I have been frustrated with not being able to organize my photos and think this should help a lot.  Thanks!  What a difference it made with the photo.... but that can't be fall in your country already?

jackwv

Shirley,  Will wait for fall that is an old photo.  Look for an email.

Mary Ann

Jack, I bookmarked the link too.  Sounds good.

This is an old photo of mine, taken at the start of my visit to the Pittsburgh Zoo.   The lion lifted his head and gave me a stare.  I cropped the photo posted in the "Give me a Photo" discussion, but did not want to interfere with the action there so here is the full photo.

Really nice photo with the lion (and lioness) surrounded with that lush greenery.
