Joy, Karren, and Bubble were good friends long before Bubble, and I met though PSP. Bubble mentioned she had a friend in Fairbanks and thought we might become friends as well. It turned out that Karren and I lived just a couple of blocks apart and we became friends. I mentioned it because of your earlier post. We never worked together because at that time she was Monte's caregiver after his accident.

In SeniorNet, I was in Cats, Missouri due to Bunny via PSP, Recipes, Quebec,(Ruth), Computers, (Oscar, TpkiDave, Jerry); and Northern Joan, Norm, PJ, Jerry2, Den, Gladys, P.Roe, Katie, Rusty, Alice, MEgann, Carole, MaryPage, Janice, Rae, Jackie, Peaches, Adrienne, Carolyn, Mare, Sandy-Dapph, Agnes, Snowwitch, Ardie and so many more! What was Den's sister's name, the one who loved Alabama football and her husband? It was a strange and wondrous time that went by far to fast!

Bunny, Sasha, Martex, and Ginny I met first in Thirdage, and they talked me into coming over to SeniorNet in 2000. After SeniorNet inexplicitly dumped their boards, Sandy-Dapph started a rescue SN site and then Norm began  his Bait and Tackle which came on to Pat's website when she started the precursor to  Seniors and Friends.

Patricia, when I went to the library for a few computer lessons they suggest SeniorNet as a safe place to go. I had just retired from the hospital and was looking for more things to do. I have never been one to set quite,

JOY, it probably was the very late 90s because I saw the article in the magazine when I still lived in the old house but I got the modem my first year in this house.  That would have been 1997.  My Gosh!  I've lived here 21 years!  I never really stopped to check that out before.  Time goes so fast!

The first person who emailed me directly was Joan Grimes.  They were planning the Atlanta Bash and I mentioned that it might be fun so she emailed me and invited me to register.  Then Ardith Matreski? from PA emailed me and asked if she could answer any questions about the Bash and was I truly interested in going?  I didn't but it would have been fun.

Gloria, SeniorNet was terrific in the beginning. ThirdAge did the same almost directly after SN and dumped their boards without warning. Jane, was Joan from Alabama? That may have been Den's sister. She came to SeniorNet about a year before her brother's death. I seem to connect her with "The Crimson Tide."

Does anyone remember P. Roe, Con, and their six sons? Now she was a character! She once wrote me a long email about using my name and felt any other monikers were for children!

I was lucky in that Adrienne made video copies of all the bashes she went to and charged a minimal fee for copies and mailing. It was my only way to enjoy those bashes. I know they are around somewhere in my external drives. I particularly enjoyed the Lake Louise and Canadian Bash.

Your mention of our dear Karren and her Monty brought back both good and sad memories...I well remember her long and brave fight to beat her cancer...and her e-mail offers of being there for me if ever I needed someone to talk to...Of course I never took up her offer, I never burdened her, she had her own issues to deal with but, just the offer alone showed what a lovely caring lady she was...

I have to admit , it is so pretty out...my poor lilacs likely don't think it is pretty :)

Hmmmmmm?  Snowflake mums and snowflake lilacs...don't think I've ever seen them before.  There's snow in our forecast for today.  Good day to stay home.

Beautiful snow, Amy, and I do love snow.  Maybe the mums won't mind too much, mine survive snow & very cold before they give up for the winter..... guessing the lilacs will sleep the winter away & show off their blossoms as usual, in the spring.  Thanks for sharing your snow (I'd even offer help shovel if we lived closer).

Thank you, Bubble for posting!  I remember a year when you posted some amazing photos of "misguided" snow in your area.... what year was that?

If Lloyd & Nancy are heading home, I hope they are on the southern route... We are breaking records with cold & most of KS had a dusting to fairly deep snow this week. I think maybe it may be in his driveway when they get home.  Safe trip!  I used to take a magazine called "Arizona Highways", gorgeous photos of all seasons.  Love to actually see that area in the snow, or any time.  We never stayed long, but took lots of photos driving down the highways.

Larry, hope you are feeling better today, do you think changing weather has anything to do with how you feel?  My mother used to say that the older we get the harder it is for our bodies to adjust to different seasons.  I know you don't have the temp changes as wide as we do here in KS (or MO), but another excuse for having "off" days.  No doubt our hearts need a rest when we over do, too, and you do keep busy.

Wishing all a happy day with smiles.  Thanks for the reminders of so many missing since we first started visiting. Think about it, if time was reversed we could say our "senior" years we've known each other as long as those long ago friends we started school with & were still around when we graduated high school.  Some have graduated and will be waiting for us with that big bash in the clouds, you think?

Amy

Bubble, thank you for posting. Winter has its foot in the door now.

Amy, I have some flowers in blossom under snow too.  Not a pretty sight, but it's there.

Patricia, PRoe and Kon visited Norm and Dot a couple times while I was there so I was able to meet them.  She never wanted to let anyone know what the P in her name stood for but it came out either just before she died or just after but she was Pauline.  Kon was deaf.  I don't remember who went first, but both of them have died.  I was able to meet a few people who came to visit Norm and Dot.  Then Katie lived in Traverse City MI and on my way to visit Tom and family, I'd meet her for lunch.  We were to meet when she called to cancel our lunch saying she had a tooth problem.  It was shortly after that when she said she had Stage 4 cancer and she was gone shortly after that.  A nice lady and I know everyone missed her.  Her son had ALS and he's gone now too.  ShirleyN and Danny would drive from Winter Haven to meet us at the Strawberry Farm near Gibson FL - neat couple.  I almost met Patricia but she was not home when I called when on a tour in Alaska and Jim and I were in Fairbanks.  I could have met Sandy but I thought she lived in Bangor ME and we were in Portland ME - so was Sandy, but I didn't call.  Big regret.  I can't think of others I met, if I met any.  But I do a good job talking on the computer.

Oh, how could I forget Papa John and Cornelia.  One year when Jim and I were headed for Florida, I e-mailed PJ to see about stopping there.  He gave me the directions and we found his house and we had a nice visit.  Cornelia had died by that time and you could tell how much he missed her.  It wasn't too long after that that he died.  Norm would love to have gone to the funeral, but he wasn't physically able.  I don't remember the year.

Memories and nostalgia!

PapaJohn died on January 2015.  It seems much longer than that...
Karren died about 7 months later.

Mary Ann

Bubble, with both Papa John and Karren, it does seem they've been gone longer than 3 1/2 to 4 years.  Thanks for the reminder.  I think I have both obits but not necessarily on this computer.

Amy, I enjoyed your photos of the snow.  I don’t want to go back to “snow country” but I love snow scenes.  We had plenty of shoveling snow when we lived in Maryland and when my husband retired he was determined about moving to a warmer climate.  Today it is 60F and sunny after two days of off and on rain.

Mary Ann and Bubble. Thank you both for bringing back memories of those that have gone before us.....I always admired Katie....she had spunk ! And Papa John and Cornelia were so devoted to each other. How I miss them. P.Roe was another one who knew who she was and was proud of it. Good kind folks and I pray we will all meet again in Heaven. I wonder if God has a special corner for those of us that love one another Unconditionally.

I am staying home today.....looking through some old books and memories, and I have a t.v. diner that sounds like it needs to be tried out. It is a Lean Cuisine brand, Parmesan crusted fish with pasta in a fire roasted tomato sauce topped with cheese. Then I will have a light supper of cottage cheese topped with canned mixed fruit.

Tonight at 6:30 we will have Mike Chamberlin playing and singing songs of WW11. If I am not too sleepy, I would like to hear him.

I hope you all have a happy, healthy day with much to be thankful for. Love you all, June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

and also a turkey meatloaf.  Both of these are really good, I get them fairly often to keep in the freezer when I just don't want to cook a meal for just me.

Good morning! Amy, lovely snow photos! We had expectations but only received a dusting and presently just have black ice. I'm wondering if it will be like the winter in 2016 when it was said, "you only needed a tablespoon to shovel your driveway!"

Thanks, MaryAnn and Bubble, Karren has been the only one I've physically met and known. So many others I knew online and corresponded with are gone now. I've grown closer to those remaining.

Since I transfer so much off the computer to external drives, I'm always surprised by what I've forgotten when going through them. It would be nice to keep the memories on hand though.

MarsGal

Tome, let me know how you like the Parmesan Fish. The Parmesan Fish with Southwestern Rice is one of my favorites, but I see yours is with pasta. I wonder if the discontinued the rice version. The other Lean Cuisine I really like is their pot stickers.

Early yesterday morning I saw that La Platte, MO and Dresler, OH were getting snow. We just got heavy rain. The pictures are lovely, Amy. And so was Sato's Poinsetta. I could never get them to last very long.

Patricia, we didn't get a lot of snow ,thank goodness. What was there was heavy packing snow. Black ice is dangerous!! You never know it is there until it is too late! Did you get your walking stick???
I have the snow blower all see for more than a tsp of snow but won't be disappointed if that is all we get.

Jean , 60 is a perfect temperature .. I think I would miss the snow ...

Have been away for several days and with just the phone have a time reading the posts.   Spent the weekend with my son visiting granddaughter to see her new home up in Michigan.  Cold and a dusting of snow but roads were clear.  Had a great visit, that included a visit to Black Rock Restaurant. interesting place where they serve you your choice of steak and a large slap of hot marble. You then cook the steak at your table (careful with the fingers)   Posting a photo of my strip steak on the slab and had a salad and loaded baked potato.

It looks delicious, Jack, and I love a good steak.

Where in Michigan???

PS - I found two Hard Rock Cafes - one in Detroit, the other in New Buffalo (on Lake Michigan).  The New Buffalo restaurant would attract people from Chicago and Northern Indiana.

Mary Ann

jackwv

MaryAnn sorry it is Black Rock Restaurant and we went to the one near Novi.

Lindancer

Jack, that steak looks sooooooooooo good

Mary Ann

Jack, I don't know why I read the restaurant as Hard Rock, you wrote Black Rock.  Novi is close to Detroit and I was there when Terry and Jan lived in Plymouth and Farmington Hills.  I have a hard time reading sometimes and I have the start of both glaucoma and macular degeneration.  At my age, it can be expected.

Mary Ann nothing wrong with your reading, I had posted hard rock and when you mentioned it and I wanted to locate the one I went to I saw that it was Black Rock.  I then went back to my first post and changed it.     It really is an interesting experience and the meal was great.  Being with my son and granddaughter made it special.

Mary Ann

Thanks, Jack, for getting me out of that hole.  I'm not as dense as I thought.  And Hard Rock is a natural because it is a term used today.  I think Kid Rock is from the Detroit area - Clarkston - and he almost ran for governor.  Too many Rocks!!!

Oh, YUM!  Jack, that is sinful looking!  To think when our kids were little & we would buy half a beef for the freezer, I'd have them put the steaks into hamburger meat.   Kids too lazy to chew, not any more!!!  I am not so "up town" as you, know the kids go to the fish & steak places where they cook while you watch & wait, but my dining out is more carry home eating.  Nice job with the photo, your phone?  Making my mouth water.......Bet the best part of the trip was being with that grand, right?
