Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Fowl, Geese, Ducks...Jack, can you remember the well known saying..." its lovely weather for Ducks..."

Ohh, where have the photos gone? here one minute, gone the next...

jackwv

Jackie I also fowl'd up my post.  Went out for food, lots of rain - Fowl weather.   There were a mess of geese (and they make a mess)   Took a long shot from the car window, but not clear with the rain and fog. I then took a close up of several.  Have had a time posting today, hope this one works.

Mary Ann

Jack, I tried to follow your fowl lead, but I'm too chicken.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Mary Ann that is another good one.  Years ago we also said fowled up.  I never used, or will use what many young say now.

Mary Ann

Jack, I wouldn't either.  When I was young, damn and hell were words not said is polite company, today the skies the limit.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann that reminded me of this piece I viewed several days ago.  I never had to hold soap in my mouth, soap cost too much.

Mary Ann

Jack, I think I never had my mouth washed out with soap and I wasn't allowed to say those words.  I've told many times that my dad was a teacher and I know he never said anything in classroom that was profane.  For lunch he would go to the boiler room at school and how they talked there, I have no idea.  But Dad did not swear at home.  Darn and nuts were possibly said, but nothing stronger.  So today, if I want to express myself, I may say "damn" or "hell" under my breath or to myself, but not to anyone else.  The other words?  Not for or from me.  And I do not consider myself a prude!

Happy Birthday, Sato.... I have had a wild & crazy couple of weeks as well as crazy weather.

Great close up of the geese, Jack. I took the carcass of the cats chicken down to the river tonight & happened to have my phone in my pocket so got shots of a Great Blue Heron sitting on the bank where I usually feed the ducks, geese or fish. It really looked cold, didn't fly off but the cats & I didn't go out to scare it away. My phone camera did not get a good shot, I have a heavy finger & it kept getting "bursts". Another problem is I don't do a good job getting them off the phone except to e-mail to myself. I just put one of the pics in the gallery so hope it works... not too sharp, doesn't compare with my Lumix!  See if this works...

Happy Birthday Sato. Sorry I missed that yesterday. Thank you for posting the morning glory. It reminded me of my Dad; morning glories were his favorite flower.

Love the photos of the "quackers". Oh, and I did get my mouth washed out with soap - several times. Palmolive soap tasted like pepper to me. I didn't use swear words, but sassing back to my parents was frowned on. Also, I used to catch it of saying "gee whiz" because Mom didn't like euphemisms. I would never have known it was had she not pointed it out.

Mary Ann

Belated birthday wishes, Sato.  I hope you and Mrs Sato are doing well.  I always enjoy your pictures.

Marsgal   You can add Euphemisms to the words I have never said  :)

Shirley

I kept a bar of Ivory soap just for those reasons... where the kids could see it. "If the mouth got them in trouble it was the mouth that got punished".  Don't think any of them ever had it used but once & didn't sass again & certainly didn't use bad words. When used, I had them open their mouth & just rubbed the clean bar over the bottom teeth, the more they tried to spit it out the stronger the taste.  ;)

I always thought that when I "fowled" up it was spelled "foul" meaning that it had turned bad.

There was never any profanity around my house either except for one time.  My Dad worked at the Federal Prison and I'm sure the language got a bit blue there but he never brought it home.  Except for one day when my mother told me to go down in the basement (entered from the back porch) and tell Daddy supper was ready.  I was probably 13 or 14 at the time.  I got about 2/3 of the way down the steps and I heard something crash and my dad said "Son of a B...."  I just stood there with my mouth open until he came around the corner and saw me.  He said, "How long have you been standing there?"  I said, "Long enough".  He chuckled and didn't say anything until we were getting ready for bed and he came in our bedroom and told my sister and me that he wanted to apologize to us for his language earlier.  Margie looked surprised and he said, "I guess Jane didn't tell you.  I thought she would".  That was the end of it and the one and only time I ever heard either of my parents or any of my grandparents or aunts and uncles swear.

Little sidelight....the crashing sound took the skin of about half of two fingers of his hand.  I guess I understand the swear words.

Jane you are correct it was my weak attempt at a play on words.   I recall years ago my daughter, then probably 7 came into the room and asked "mom what does ---- mean.  My mother yelled what did you say and she repeated it. We then discovered the source and spoke to the young boys parents. :)

Have had heavy rain and a bit of flooding. Today cold but sunshine so Mimi insisted on a walk. It was 28 degrees and windy so we only were out a short time.

Only took one photo, of Oglebay Mansion.  This was the summer home of Earl Oglebay, what a delight it would be to drive up and say I am home.

Wanted to add this but afraid I would have problem posting.   Several years back I did the inside of Oglebay Mansion.  Know this is a repeat, but if you have not seen, take a look in.  Click full screen when viewing.

Mary Ann

Jack, I got a message that "they" couldn't find the page.

Jane, I thought "fowl" was a play on words.  I had to backtrack to see what others and I wrote and I see it was a "play on words".  We were talking about geese (fowl), not a baseball game (foul).

Mary Ann I checked the link and got the same message so that is why I put it into my last post.

What we use to think of as Bad Language years ago is mild now. With the younger people and infact most grownup the F word is a everyday use one. Can't stand it.  It is most movies. many books and most teens use it. Facebook it is unbelievable.  Most of what I use other than a couple Brits on here would understand. Bugger off.Bloody and  Sod it.such as that and right now using a lot. For this reason.

am going out of my mind trying to fix my computers. Ever since I got the new W10 desktop and had everything for the old one transfered over to it nothing works. I use Comcast and my desktops all tied into a couple of Passwords. My Desktop, Ipad, Amazon Fire and another tablet I dont use to often. Just for books. All come up saying wrong Password . Even would not let me in my Seniorsandfriends today. I am working to try and now get them all using the same User Name and Password. So far taken 4 days trying. Need to give all a rest until I fix.
This bad weather not helping me at all. That and my car still not running. Hope spring gets here soon before I take a hammer to everything

FlaJean

Jack, enjoyed seeing that video again of Oglebay.  Really enjoyed it.   Beautiful music.

I thought I would add my Henry Leu Museum House.  Not nearly as pretty as Oglebay though.

https://vimeo.com/36572503

Mary Ann

Jean, I loved the Henry Leu Museum and I could relate to that more than Oglebay because the furnishings were more my style.  Not that I don't appreciate Oglebay, because I do; there are things there that I would never see if not for Jack's video.  The first thing in the Leu video was a big horn and radio.  My dad put something like that together when I was a child and the horn stayed in my closet for quite a while after we graduated to a store-bought radio.  I found Larry a couple of times, but I didn't see Jean.  If you were in any of the shorts, I missed you.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Jean, you and Larry did a great job on that.  Full screen was like being there.  Liked the choice of music. Believe I did see you on the one photo and several with Larry.  Oglebay is beautiful but a mansion and too large.  The Henry Lieu is more like home, would love to live there.

Amy

Babe and Jesse in one spot! Difficult to take phones of the pair when they move a mile a minute. Lots of fun to watch though. He is 77 days old and growing fast!

Amy, Babe and Jesse look like they have the same ancestors - look at those faces.  What fun you must have.

Amy, they sure look like they belong together.
