Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

I find it interesting that we are at the opposite coastal ends and experiencing the same weather all month!

Shirley

Amy, that's a lot more snow than we had! Looks nice & clean, Lloyd would be out getting a big bowl full for snowcream! Ours melted pretty fast but hope for more middle of this week. Discovered some critter has chewed or clawed the liner to my grug, all the way around. Going to leave as is this year, those things are expensive! Since mine came with the trug it is made to hang over the sides all around & with out wind I bought clamps to hold it down from flapping the little lettuce down. Kind of ratty looking now!

Thanks for posting, Bubble.

I agree with JaneS...I prefer "bikini weather"! :2funny:

Our summer is short and sweet with our usual 24/7 sunshine. Our arctic winters are usually cold, dark, and dreary. While we have multiple winter sports, including one thousand mile dog races and ice carving festivals,  I prefer summer, the endless daylight, warmth, and the outdoor markets and fairs.

I took five cell phone photos to show that even though they've plowed and only a small amount of snow is due tomorrow, the skies say tomorrow might become today,

Now, Patricia, that's what my brain tells me Alaska is supposed to look like! Something right in this world. Thanks!  Snow in winter and monster veggies in summer! I'd still like to spend a summer roaming around the state, camping all along the way. But I have a problem thinking about NOT having a gun handy for protection (one gives me the impression of being equal to any other human or animal, for noise or "just don't dare me" attitude.) Fireworks would probably work as well in bear country but a shot into the ground is also convincing. I don't believe anyone should need feel afraid, just prepared. Thanks for posting, I would still like to visit.

Sandy

Patricia,  that is a lot of snow.   More like I would expect
you to have in Alaska...  More like we experience
here.

I love all the photos of Alaska that you post.  I think I've mentioned before that Alaska is the only one of the 50 states that I haven't had a chance to visit.  I know my traveling days are over so when you post pictures ore maps my brain eats them up.  I truly love putting them in my mind with all the other states.

Thanks everyone, that is more snow than normal for us too! In the normal winter in the Arctic, there is generally little to no moisture, thus no humidity and no real noticeable snow. Anchorage and the southeast portion of Alaska are known for snow and rain as it's part of the rainforest climatic zone of Washington and Oregon.

In fact, Ketchican, Alaska, holds the record for the most yearly rainfall in North America! Alaska has four separate geographical and thermostatic zones, and each is very different from the others.

Plus, January and especially February are known for their frigid cold. Obviously, that hasn't happened last year or this year. If this were an average year, March would be a snow dump. If that happens this year, we will still be digging out in June!

I just returned from my first haircut by a licensed professional in 24 months. I told her to take it off as who knew when the opportunity would be back? I went from looking like the little Dutch Boy to a Mia Farrow look alike!

P.S. Shirley, you might find carrying a gun to be cumbersome here. There are three separate governments, each with its own set of rules and regulations. These are the federal government, state, and Alaska Native government.

The Alaska Native Claims Act gave Alaskan Natives full title to their lands, and Native laws and rule hold sway over all but Federal laws in the territory they lay claim to.

Amy

Patricia, that is quite a sight! Should you want/need anymore snow we could send you some and not miss it. :)

Amy, we're presently being dumped on yet again, and we certainly don't need any from anyone else! But thanks for volunteering!    ;D

Hmmm...how's Jane's snow levels?

FlaJean

Patricia, enjoyed your snow pictures.  Glad it is there and not here. 😁. But that beautiful white stuff sure looks good in pictures.

patricia19

Jean, yesterday's lite snow turned into a full day of flakes, with three inches total. According to the weather report, 21/22 snowfall is 66% higher than the historical average this far into the winter. They reported no snow expected through the seventh, but they also said that about yesterday! I didn't go out, and everything out there is either white or covered in white!

Took this with my phone yesterday. This is at Greenville Falls Preserve near Covington, Ohio. About an hour and a half from me. Click to view full size.

Lovely photo.  Enjoyed seeing the group of photos also.

Amy

Jean, I agree but the roller coaster made me queasy :(

Amy, I know that quote wasn't addressed to me but your roller coaster comment had me perplexed.

Amy

Patricia, when you enlarge the photo ... do it... and you will enjoy the sites . I am not a fan of roller coasters but know they are enjoyed by many.

Amy, I haven't cared for amusement park rides since I was on a Ferris wheel that broke down.  Naturally I was at the top.☺️  We were let down manually one swing at a time.  Scary.

patricia19

Amy, enlarge Michael's photo of a small waterfall?

Amy

Patricia, yes, then click on the arrows on the side.

Okay, I saw the machinery. I enjoyed the photo of a flowing creek with the sign per unsafe ice. I didn't enjoy the slaughterhouse photos.

Shirley

I also enjoyed all the photos, Michael, since I rode all the rides as a teenager, lived just a few blocks from the MO state fairgrounds. I got caught up in how neatly built your roller coaster was. My friend & I went on one when we visited New Orleans back in 1952, long time ago. The guys taking tickets offered to let us ride free a 2nd & 3rd time, so we did! It was so old, remember a lot of wood all around. Thanks for posting that gorgeous photo that led to the others!

Patricia, I didn't look at the slaughterhouse photos. When I was in grade school our class took a tour of a packing plant where they killed chickens. I was so horrified my mother regreted the rest of her life that the school would allow us to see that. To this day I almost throw up at the memory. Chickens were my friends, just like a dog & cat, and I wouldn't eat them, either, or want to watch them slaughtered!

Shirley I quit after the first slaughter  photo.

Just checked out the photos, Michael. Some of the roller coaster photos remind me of the old, classic designed roller coaster at Hershey. I have no idea if it is still there or has been replaced by the newer ones. The only "roller coaster" you could ever get me on was a really, really low one with very low "hills". I can't remember if that was at Hershey or Williams Grove. I've been on a small Ferris wheel once or twice but as with roller coasters, I very much dislike being anywhere high and open. You would never catch me close to a high up boardwalk or balcony railing.

The only time I spent in Ohio was a weekend at the annual Dayton Hamfest. I sure did enjoy going through the Wright Patterson museum and having dinner at The Stockyards. The Hamfest itself was so packed that if you were in the indoor arena and needed to make a "pitstop" or wanted to stop at a display table and weren't able to get over it was necessary to follow the flow of traffic the whole way around again.

The oldest roller coaster at Hershey is Comet, which was built in 1946. I rode that one when I visited Hershey in 2017 :)

Dayton is an hour from me. The arena where Hamfest was held was demolished several years ago. It looks like they've since renamed it to Hamvention and moved it to the Greene County fairgrounds in Xenia (about 20 minutes east of downtown Dayton).
