We had about 4 inches of snow here this week in Auburn, AL.  This is the first time since I moved here in 2004 that we've had any snow stay on the ground, although we have had snowfalls which were mostly frozen rain which melted quickly.  However, not so quickly that everyone here who never lived where snow fell (like me who endured 6 winters in Brunswick, Maine) ran outside and built a 5 or 6" snowman which melted within an hour!).

In Maine, we had snowfalls of 3-4 feet at least once a week!  But the snow plows were out as soon as it started and by the end of the snow, we did have to shovel the driveways but were able to get out to grocery stores or meetings ASAP!  That fallen snow stayed on our yards until spring.

MaryAnn, we have dropped from the plus mid-thirties and at 9:28 AM, it is minus three. Not too bad, but the clouds are moving out and without a good cloud cover, those temperatures will swiftly plunge!

Farrah hasn't had those swift runabouts and low hoarse growls this week, Gloria. She is in one of her affectionate phases.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed my cold, blue, snowy scenes. I don't have to be out in it either, thankfully!

I've said it before and I'll say it now; come on Spring!

Bubble.  We have not seen Don Posting. Is he having all this cold weather . Maybe he headed for a sunny Island someplace.

Jack, from the look of snow in your area you must be staying in where it is warm and cozy. Our afternoons will be in the high 60s in the coming week. Today was sunny at 64F.  Maybe I will get out and take a few pictures this week.

Don is spending a few days at his son's place, out of town. He is OK and does not complain of the cold , though for me it would be freezing.
I think he is still under the shock of Hal's wife's news.

Mary Ann

Bubble, I think many of us are in shock at Hal's death.

Mary Ann

so_P_bubble

you are right: I am still in the dis-believing stage.

Shirley

I guess partly because of Jeanne Lee dying so recently, losing Hal is the "double-whammy" and makes us all realize how fragile we all are at this age.  Since Don had just talked to Hal, he has an even more reason for being shocked.  Bubble, it will be a relief when we know he is with you and happy, you do bring joy to his life.  Glad he is spending time with his son, that will help.

When I drove across the Arkansas River near my house this morning I couldn't see any sign of ice.... hard to believe it can melt so fast.  The water looks high so guess up river has also melted.  Another storm moving into north west Kansas today, winter isn't over, but we are so dry it is necessary to water the young trees & flowers that bloom early or they will not survive.

Patricia, last night Tom (cat) was growling loud & fierce at the sliding door.... his look-a-like (Tommy II) was at the door.  He has been hanging out around here the last week or so & I am wondering if who ever had been feeding him has moved.  He seems friendly & comes to the door with Callie in front or to the pool area where Tom growls if I am around.  I think he secretly plays with him when I am not around.  Last night's growl was louder than I ever heard before.... I do NOT need another cat to worry about, hadn't seen him for months.  I would like to get a photo of the two Tom cats together to show you the difference... will have to settle on separate ones.  Love your snowy scenes... we've had cold wind but only the one spell of ice/snow.

I feel for the cats and dogs that have no one to care for them and have gone feral, and especially at this time of year. I also believe in neutering your pets and in the case of ferals, to trap, neuter and release.

Mary Ann

I read recently that Lake Michigan is nearly a foot higher than it was last year at this time, so that might account for the higher Arkansas river.

Patricia, I have a feral cat, that has been around here about 5 years, I and Rima my neighbor also feeds him, and she puts warm water out, she has something that warms the water, she has and overhang.all most the length of her house.  she made a warm coved bed for him, but he has yet to use it. Now someone has  dropped another big cat off in the last week.  People drop cats off in the park, thinking we will watch after them. My two neighbors across the street do not like cats.

Here is my wild dog.   Her favorite spot is in the middle of my small kitchen and she will spread out, frog fashion, in the door and I seldom have her move.  When I talk to her she will wag her tail side to side.

I really would love a Mimi!!!  TomCat also spends a lot of his time laying "frog style" or on his back.  Tiger rarely lays upside down & I have not ever seen her frog style.  These cats have all been "fixed" when young.  Actually Tom & Tiger's mother was being fed by a neighbor for a couple years & they borrowed our trap after we told her about the babies.... the lady volunteered at the humane society so knew about the spay & neuter program to release (half the price of a vet)...  we had the 3 babies fixed & shots for less than the vet charged a few years before for the spay of LaurenKat.  Cas named her Lauren after our youngest grand.... that was as unfriendly as the baby cat at the time.  Lauren Kid wouldn't go to anyone until she started school, except her other gr-mother that took care of her while her mother worked.  They had another child that died at birth so was "overly" protected.  She is in college now.

...I have to smile...Mimi doesn't know whether she wants cool or warm, albeit her half body on cold flooring - half body on warm carpet, second photo..she seems very un-decisive...bless her...

Jack, unwittingly you brought back a memory from when I got married, over fifty years ago.
Mimi's carpet.  We never saw the like of it here, but an American acquaintance from the US embassy gave us one as a present when he left the country. I really liked it and was sorry when it became frayed between dog, cats and children.

Almost all our furniture was second hand, both our savings went for the two rooms apartment.

That was also the favorite way my dog slept on the tiled floor in summer.

jackwv

Bubble that was special and it had me thinking of Shirley and wondering about service cats.   At first I thought it impossible but have read how they are often used and like dogs give so much support and comfort to humans.    Pets are like children and a joy to have around.

Mary Ann

Bubble, that was a cute video and I'm sure that dog was puzzled by Pluto.

Speaking of cats, Jack, at my left in the Random Image is a picture of Shan, MarsGal's new kitty.

I doubt Kendrick could ever be a service cat, but one never knows.  He is a joy to have around but I feel sorry for him that he doesn't have a playmate; I can't get around to play with him and I look at toys that are for cats and none of them strike me as being suitable for him.  Kendrick is now 4 1/2 years old, will be five in July.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann I did not spot the image.   I sent my daughter the attached video, she liked and is going to try with her cat.  Easy and inexpensive to make.

Mary Ann

Jack, Cole and Marmalade are aptly named.  Marmalade is about the color of Kendrick, also similar stripes.  His "mother" (Annie) named him Kendrick after a favorite singer of her - Lamar Kendrick.  Maybe I should rename him because he doesn't answer to anything anyway, well, maybe "Kitty".  I think Kendrick would have fun with the balls, especially if I would put some of his dry food in with the balls.  I doubt Tom would or could make the boxes to hold the balls.  Something like that is not in his expertise!  He's great at procrastination if he doesn't want to do something; he'll say yes to doing something, but many things are left undone.  I don't push things because he is so good to me in other ways, especially if I have an appointment.

I alway had hounds and their favourits places always seemed to be stretched out in front of my wall registers. Tried to stop it because in Winter the heat would bother their fur.

Bubble, thanks for the video of the service dog and her meeting with Pluto!  What a pleasure she must be to her human friend.  Dogs are wonderful companions.  I sure miss my Stubby since he died several years ago.  If I were younger, I'd get another.

Amy

Thank you Bubble, I shall try and remember to take photos with my camera and not the tablet.

Jack, your Mimi looks like our Golden and she sleeps the same way or all fours in the air. Beautiful dogs they are!

Amy, would like to see photos of your Golden.  Your quilt made me think of Jigsaw Puzzles.

Weather not severe, but dreary days and only taking short walks.  TV is useless and bored, but not enough to do some cleaning.  My daughter mentioned puzzles I used to do years ago.  Went poking around and found the Windows Store has several apps.  Like the one   Jigsaw Puzzle Premium.   It is free, gives you a group of free ones and then offers additional including one for your own photos.  You can pick from 12 to 300 pieces.  Here is a screenshot of one partially done, that had only 48 pieces, and you know I like the subject.  Worth a look if you like doing puzzles.

Jack, love the  puzzle I actually do have a puzzle on Momma Golden with 4 babies on a porch. They can't read the Wet Paint sign so you know what the porch looks like with all the paw prints.

I do have some photos on my computer and will try to post them..
She is just playing with the pup....not a mean bone in her body as the next photo will show you. She is now 13 and so far cancer has stayed away but she is weak in her hind quarters but can act like a silly pup if we are to go for a car ride! She is on 1/2 pill of Meloxicam and that seems to help a lot.

Amy just on my way to join son and few "regulars" at local pub.   Looked in and had to laugh at your two fighting.  I had the same with my two goldens, Jessie and Zoe, years ago.   Never heard a yipe and would watch them rolling on their backs and baring teeth at each other.  They really were good friends.  Would not take a chance now but would love a 2nd for Mimi.
