Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

FlaJean, maybe the cardinals know something we don't know!  I have only seen 2--and not on the same day.  Usually they stop here in flocks for several days and then move on.  Auburn is just about in the middle of Alabama, about 50 miles northeast of Montgomery.

Cardinals are the State Bird of Illinois and I have not seen one this year. Figured they had gone south....

Apparently my House Sparrows are quite common.  Here is a good link with info on them and their various bird calls.  Did not have them last year but they have moved in and stayed even during the bitter cold.

Jack, I wish I had my camera handy yesterday I have a bird dish in front of my sliding glass door, There was little sparrow eating beside a blue jay, the jay would stop and look at the little bird then would go back to eating. Would you believe a cardinal flew in and chase both of them away

At around 6.50am this morning ( 15 minutes ago ) I had just let Toby out for his morning toilet and stood at the back door and watched a large bird formation overhead our valley...what a wonderful sight and sound of small birds, and of course by the time I got to the bedroom to get my camera they had gone....

Jackie and Gloria, lots of beauty out there, keep the cameras ready.   Cardinals are beautiful but they can be nasty.

We had an ice storm last night and when i awoke this morning all the trees were coated with ice. The sun was shining brilliantly and was reflected beautifully on the ice. I had to photograph them before it all melted, although I don't think I captured the full beauty.

Don that is always a pretty scene with the ice on the branches.   Prefer to see new buds.

SCFSue

Great photos, Don.  Thanks for posting them.  When will you get a thaw up there in the great North?

I think there's a thaw coming on Thursday. It's supposed to go to four degrees above freezing.

SCFSue

Gee, Don.  It sounds like you're having a heat wave up your way!

And here we  will be back to winter this shabbat!  Snow predicted to fall on Mt Hermon and the Golan again, while here on the coast it will be stormy. I am not happy!

Love the flowers & the huggy donkeys..... my computer is acting up so want to post fast.... here is a sure sign of spring & love  in Kansas, along the Arkansas River.  This is Rossi & her mate & later is Rossi taking her babies to the river after I opened the gate for her.  She had her nest across the street so the babies really struggled to get over the curb.  Rossi was with us for about 8 years, free to live on the river but visited us nearly every day.  I would visit with her on the bank where she seemed relieved to let me watch out for her babies while she slept in the water at my feet.  Sadly the turtles & other wildlife got the babies, one by one, she never had any more that we knew of.  The last few years of her life she spent in our front yard where we put a large clam shell birdbath on the lava rock around the house.  Some days she would just lay in the birdbath, much to the aggravation of the birds, but go down to the river near dark.  The last couple months she couldn't fly so Cas would walk with her down to the water to make sure nothing caught her.

FlaJean

I like those donkeys.  Amazing what those apps can do, Jack.

Shirley, such a sweet story and just the right day to post it. ðŸ'•

Great one with the donkeys!
Rossi's story is very touching. I'm glad she had that attention on her old days.

jackwv

Shirley, you should write a book with your cats and wild life stories.  How about a slide show?

Thanks for the comments about Rossi ..... and I have thought about writing about all the critters we raised, been a long line of them, but always seem to have more taking up my time.  I do have photos to go with the ones in later years, but few from when I was little.  Not sure anyone would be interested in a book,  :crazy2:....  I actually did pick up a notebook when in a Walmart parking lot this past year.  Have a drawer full of new ones left behind from "school supplies" but none with me at the time.  Got busy watching the cats & the critters (people) out the RV windows & stopped writing to enjoy the moment.

Robins are all around this morning, every time I open a door I hear them.  I stepped outside when I heard a flock of geese overhead, sure enough, a huge V of them heading north.  I thought they were acting like they were ready to move earlier this week, the weather has them confused, too.  We are to be 75°  today. May still have the worst of winter ahead, some years are like that.  EDIT:  When the geese are "high in the sky", I've noticed, they are going north or south a long distance, not like flying low, out to the fields for the day.

Don, every time I scroll past your icy trees I stop to admire.... The only ice I've seen this winter was when out camping the 10th of January & the side of the RV was solid ice & I couldn't get the door open to put the power cord back inside.  Not funny!  But it is so pretty to see the trees sparkle like that.  Thanks.

Gotta get a move on, eye check up today.

After all the rain and snow, the Ohio River raised to several feet over flood stage.   Fortunately it has crested and damage was limited.   Posting photos taken this morning with photos of  the same area during normal times.
