Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Shirley, we had a flowering almond at home, too, and I had not thought of it until I saw your mention.  When I was doing computing at a food pantry, I passed a Jet Bead bush in the parking lot.  I took some beads and was able to start the bush.  One year it blossomed and that was the year a duck pulled it over her so she could sit on eggs.  Sometime during the next season, someone stepped on the stem and there went my Jet Bead bush.  It was my memory of something we had at home.  I didn't start another one.  We had forsythia and there is one at the end of our four-unit building so I have never tried to raise one of those, although they're easy to raise.  I have some trillium, a lot now, started from three that I bought.  I have a Dutchman's Britches that blossoms then disappears.  My neighbor has done my garden for a couple of  years.  I physically cannot do gardening and Tom is unable to do any, plus the fact he doesn't care!  My neighbor has done a good job for me but she is not interested in the different little bulbs I've planted.  I had one plant I bought but something we had had at home.  Last year it suffered because of no rain and was dry in the fall.  Because of the "no rain" weeds came up and dried and my neighbor pulled every dry thing out.  I cannot find any remnant of the plant I liked so much.  We called it woods lily or snot grass, but it really was some kind of "wort".  I'm too old to start a new garden, so I'll let my neighbor do what she wants.  We give her a card for a local restaurant where we know she likes to eat.

We have a similar tree to Jean's, a lilac tree that will show in white, pale lilac or a deep purple. Here are two versions of the Alaskan tree from the web.

MaryAnn, I understand that Michigan has a red lilac tree.

fantastic photos, keep them coming:  I love seeing all those plants I never knew existed.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I have not heard of a red lilac tree in Michigan, however ---.  At the house where I grew up, we had both lavender and white; the white one was a double.  We also had a lavender one that was shaded by a mulberry tree and the poor thing didn't get enough sunlight for it to blossom.  I'll look up red lilac on the computer.

It was taking a bouquet of lilacs to work that brought out an allergy and I worked for nearly four years to gain tolerance to "trees, grass, and ragweed".  Now is the tree season here and I think that is responsible for my left eye itching now.  I am not in the golden age, I'm in the rusty age!

I found the red lilac, sold by Michigan Bulb.  There was little about the red lilac itself, only ads as to where you could buy them.  Michigan Bulb intrigued me because I had forgotten all about them and we used to order from them.  I tried to find a location but could find none and they have an 812 area code so that is an 800 number.  It is good to see they are still in business.

The red lilac is beautiful in case anyone is interested.  I'm not planting trees any more.

MaryAnn, she is from a place called Lansing? I looked it up and it is called a Red French Hybrid Lilac. However, it is very similar to what we have here.

I was just going to post when your post arrived. It looks very similar to one of the types we have. Now if I could find the name of the red, coin-shaped leaves on a local ornamental tree.

Patricia, those are beautiful photos of lilacs.    When I was a kid we had a whole row of lilacs along our back property, and my mother would  sell all of them to a man that came out from NYC

Right now the radio is playing Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old Oak tree and my feet are moving
Tony Orlando is the singer remember him?

Thanks for agreeing with me that Emma is beautiful!  Of course, I truly believe she is.

As for the objects in the picture...I think that blue thing is an ?aspirator?  One of those things they use on newborns to remove fluids in the mouth and nose?  As for the bag, I don't have a clue.

I intend to hold her the end of this month and I'm going to hold her until my arms go numb!
