What a delight to admire your photos Jack.  And the grass looks so lush. The many hues of green are amazing. What a palette!

Shirley

Jack, every deer but one is checking you & Millie out.... like old friends, they don't seem to be afraid.  Had to giggle at Millie's expression & way she is sitting, "Come on, Dad, enough of the posing!"  She is such a sweetie.... can you picture Zoe sitting like that? That was one dog that had a sense of humor, loved to tease you... right?  And Jessie just tolerated her antics & sided with you about "the wild child".  Millie is the typical "Mother Superior", always a lady.  Never convince me that pets don't think!  Those hanging baskets are so lush, wonder what kind of plant food they use to make them bloom so full.  Thanks for the pics!

Bubble, does Don have internet where he is?  Hope he is doing okay with the move.  My neighbor finally moved into his apartment at the retirement center, quite an adjustment.  He says he hates it but what the biggest problem is, he doesn't have his wife spoiling him. He didn't realize how much she did for him every day without him asking, she was a jewel.  Don is more independent, seems to me, so except for being able to get around like he's used to, I expect he will accept the changes with dignity.

jackwv

Thanks for the comments, again I know how fortunate to have the park and Mimi for almost a daily visit.  Had to take a quick one of Mimi, liked the hanging plants, but she wanted to move on.

angelface555

Jack, you are fortunate! And so is Mimi!

so_P_bubble

Shirley,
Don has internet and his laptop with him.
He seems to have lost much of his pep, and also his interest in connecting.
He sounds quite happy where he is, but looks forward to moving to the permanent housing instead of this interim one where he is only staying for another month.
He does miss his radio programs and other activities like the Santa performances. I wish he could find some hobbies to keep occupied...

SCFSue

Jack, you have another winner in Mimi!  I sure miss my Stubby, but had decided that I didn't want to leave Tim and Kris a dog.  Their dog is on her last legs and I'm sure Kris will replace her immediately, but Tim is a bit reluctant to do that.

Bubble, thanks for the update on Don, although it is a bit sad.  It's tough when one lives alone and has to move to a new situation.  I'm sure a lot of his loneliness is that he misses you as well as his previous very active life.

Sue

jackwv

Sue, dogs do hold you back but at my age Mimi is the perfect match.  I do little travel and look forward to our long walks almost daily.

Bubble, I would hope Don the best and would ask that he stays involved in the discussions.  If he has nothing new, post some of his favorites (many with you)

Lindancer

Jack you make such peaceful pictures Mimi knows you are take her photo

Bubble tell Don we are all missing him. I know he will be happier when he get really settled again Maybe there is a Santa job around the corner.

Jackie, do you still have your puppy.  You took such beautiful care of you other babies. My Taffy is my world.

Jack, beautiful photos!! I had to brake coming home this afternoon for a doe...thankfully she didn't cross in front of me.

Mimi looks like she is saying ok Dad. enough already!

Lin yes Mimi is used to the procedures.   Sit and smile.

Amy I really have to be careful at home and at the park, so many deer.  One ran out across the front of me yesterday when driving around the corner from my home.

Testing to see if I can post in here.... won't let me post in the Soda Shoppe  :tissue:  .... and I've had such a rotten day.. :tissue:

Okay, that worked!  Jack, my biggest fear is deer on the highway in CO, KS & MO.  A friend & husband were driving one of the roads in CO & deer came bounding out of a gully & ran smack into their NEW Cadillac.  Got from front fender to rear bumper.... side mirror was dangling by it's wires.  When Andy & I drive back & forth to CO we carry walkie talkies because they can stay in contact better than phones.... & when I had the Rialta he always went first (my cruise control didn't always work)... and warned me when he saw deer herds along the highway. Never know which way they will jump.

Bubble, if you get a chance to check on the Soda Shoppe, Jane is yelling "where's everyone" so maybe I'm not the only one that can't post in there.  I need sleep....

JaneS

I'm not getting messages that anyone posted in any of my forums.  And no one has posted in the Soda Shoppe since I did before I went to the movie and right after I got back.  I had to go in by the back door.

So Jane is a privileged character..... I've tried over & over but won't let me post, says "database error" or something.

JaneS

You must not be the only one because NO ON HAS POSTED.  I'm going to try to go back and see if I can post.

Sato, those are interesting houses.  I'd suppose they would compare to thatched roofs in England or the sod houses of the plains area of the US, although the sod houses were more underground.

Jane and Shirley, if you go to Michael's new server forum, you will see that it is happening to everyone at different times and at different discussions. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Michael cannot replicate the error as yet.

Sato, love those houses!

Patricia, I used to get those messages from that forum but I don't any more.  This is the only one I get.  I can post anywhere but I'm not getting notifications for discussion except this one.

Mary Ann, Angel, thank you for your comments.
It is the lunch time here in Japan on Wednesday.

Interesting house & great photo, Sato.  The "thatched roof houses" I saw in Marlow, England had a more rounded roof than that.  I went on a "road trip" with my husband to near the Canadian border, he was checking out land for an oil pipeline.  We ran across one of the old sod houses, can't imagine how uncomfortable that would be, no trees for shade, just barren land, no lumberyards near, that's for sure. It was in surprisingly good condition, no doubt it had been restored many times.

Patricia, I managed to post in the Soda Shoppee just now.  I'm off to bed, busy day tomorrow doing all the things I couldn't get done today.  Can't remember a day when so many things went wrong.

so_P_bubble

Sorry folks, this is an area of errors that I cannot fix.  I myself had an awful time creating the new page for Soda Shoppe, with the same error message popping up all the time.
I keep my fingers crossed that Michael will find a way to locate that error of encoding.
Thanks for your patience.

Shirley...
...yes, the thatched cottages here in England are different to Sato's photo....it has always been my dream to live in one...one can see them scattered around many villages, we have several in and around Dorset as we did too, around the Bedfordshire area, my previous location...

Sato...
...apparently they have something very similar in the Santana region on Madeira Portugal...

so_P_bubble

Sato, most unusual houses. Are they built in wood?  I wonder how bugs don't get in those roofs, spiders ants and others.

Vanilla-Jackie

Traditional Palheiros Houses of Santana Madeira Portugal..I have been to Portugal but not to this region, the home to these exquisite dwellings...

Shirley

I wondered about the same thing, Bubble.... spiders & other bugs.  EEK!  This house (& last 2 houses before this one) had the thick shake shingle wood roof... spiders & silver fish dropped out of the recessed light fixtures & fans in the bathrooms. I was constantly on alert, terrified of spiders.  The 3rd time we had a new roof put on this house (major storm damage twice, first new one we were just afraid of leaking)... we went with the "50 year to life" composition with the highest rating for no hail damage, and the spiders & silver fish are GONE!  I rarely see a spider anymore, except outside in the pool storage area & have black widow nests... in spite of all my spraying.  I do whatever I can to eliminate spiders.  :knuppel2:  Can't imagine how bugs could be eliminated in a thatched roof.  Pretty to look at but not for me.

Jackie, my folks had a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, just a small rectangular building, but many of the "A" frame cabins around, look a lot like your photo from Portugal, only their roof was those thick wood/shake shingles.

It is getting light out so I'd better go round up cats to feed.  Tom came in while ago, all of a sudden he let out a howl like you never heard before.... Tiger was sitting on the deck & guess another critter just outside the pool fence, I couldn't see it.  Tom kept on yelling so I got out the iPod & caught him on video.  He screams when something else comes around, but hides if not safe behind a glass door.

I love the pictures of the
thatched roof cottages,  and would love to
"visit" one....   but live in one?

No no no ...  I don't live in places where bugs
could be just as happy to reside in..

It is a thing with me.  I wouldn't be able
to go to sleep in one...
The thought makes me shudder!

Sandy, some people eat them, it's protein!

In Africa termites ate thought of as delicacy and when they erupt in yearly flight, it is a night of feast. They are caught and eaten as soon as they land with dropped wings. The surplus is grilled on a  iron sheet atop a bed of glowing coals

P.S. They taste like grilled hazelnuts.

Mary Ann

Bubble, thank you, but I'll pass.
