Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

I have now begun the second month of my respite care and quite frankly I don't see a lot of improvement, but I remain hopeful. My boys are working diligently to expedite my move to a permanent home where I can settle in. Hopefully I will be in my new digs before the month is over. The reality of my situation is starting to sink in though. As of now I will be unable to carry on in my role as Santa, something I've been doing close to 20 years. Likewise my participation in the Standardized Patient Programme must come to an end and stage participation is no more as well. I am happy that my last performance garnered me an award.
The main hope that sustains me is that I will be able to continue to visit my Israeli Sweetheart.
So that is all I have for you now. I am so grateful for your thoughts and prayers and I,ll try not to be so negative in my next communication .

jackwv

Don thanks for the update, and nothing negative on your part about it. Our  thoughts  and prayers are indeed with you.  Will look for your next visit with Bubble.   Please keep in touch.

FlaJean

Sato and Jackie, those houses are so interesting.  We don’t have any houses like those in our area.

Shirley

Okay, Bubble, did you get Don to try your termites?   ;D  We have plenty of termites here, houses sprayed & even "traps" put out in the yards, not welcome.  Do remember when we had the baby ducks we would let them go into the pool to eat all the bug first thing in the morning.  Some days a whole "flock" of termites would be floating... at least that's what they looked like, with wings on.

I've taken some photos lately but still haven't tried to resize with the online re-sizer....  one photo of the mimosa blooming for the first time..... it grew back from the root of one we had there years ago & cut down because it was hanging over the Rialta & caused mildew on the roof.  The new RV parks on the other side of the driveway so hope this won't be a problem now.  Such delicate blooms.  I'll work on it~~

Don...
...sadly, in life, one by one, everything good comes to an end but...you hang on to that one good thing you have still left, your trips to Israel, Bubble and her family...we all need something nice to look forwards to...Don, stay positive and always stay optimistic...

Shirley, I have never seen those termites in Israel.  We had plenty of them in Congo, with termites hills all over the land. I think it was with the first rain that we saw those termites's nuptial flight and clouds of them raising high and then falling like rain when they were losing their wings. What a sight it was.
Juicy Caterpillars were also a praised delicacy for our workers.

FlaJean

Here in northwest Florida we have occasional swarms of termites at night during the months of May and early June.  So far I haven’t seen a swarmâ€"only heard about them, although the first year we lived here, we had a few dead termites around our sink in the bathroom.  They go for the light and water and we think they came in around the skylight.  Consequently we only turn on the bathroom light when necessary when they swarm.  We do have the termite traps and the house inspected every six months.

Shirley

:2funny: :2funny: :2funny: Bubble I think I'll bring my own food if I ever travel to the Congo!  Not much for "juicy caterpillars, either!  You know my next question..... were they kosher?   ( No question we can't ask in here, right? )

Sandy, I'll pass on your snails, too.  I have learned to eat shrimp cocktail but would just lick the sauce off my finger & enjoy as much. Born in the midwest, I am a "meat & potatoes" person & want to recognize everything that goes into a dish!  I did have a difficult time eating chicken as a kid, since they were pets to me & like the rest of you eating a dog or cat..  all in our heads.

One time after we had been married, lived in England for over 3 years & back home to MO, I was trying to cut up a chicken I bought at the store, much cheaper than cut up. Cas was in college so always short on money.  It was a struggle, but got it done & fried.  Later that night my dear husband started laughing & when he could finally talk he explained... told me to tell our neighbor that he "knew what happened to their cat!"   Now was that nice??  :knuppel2:  I realize it wasn't the usual drumsticks, thighs & wings.....

so_P_bubble

Shirley, now I wonder about the caterpillars...  I know that the rabbis had a big debate before deciding that locusts were Kosher.  So why not worms... maybe they are!

At one time ostrich meat was said to be kosher, but now they are on the forbidden list.  A pity because it was quite tasty and a lean healthy meat as well

Shirley

That is surprising that ostrich is not acceptable, Bubble, is it something they eat?  I see the meat at the Farmer's Market here but have not tasted it, more emu than ostrich, also buffalo meat that is supposed to be healthier.

Time for bed, I am worn out, used the weed whip in & around the berm this morning & ran the vac in the bottom of the pool tonight, and a whole day of busy in between.  I get up between 5:00 & 6:00 am Sunday morning to feed cats & something for me before getting off to church at 7:00.  I take any of the family that goes to Mass at that time to breakfast at McDonalds after... it is like Cheers for us....we enjoy visiting & the crew treats us like friends.   Sweet dreams to all............

What a pretty group of flowers, almost looks like a painting, Sato!  Glad you are fixed up.

Looking at the cosmos makes me feel refreshed.
2015 was the Year of the Sunflower, 2017 is the Year of the Zinnia, but 2016 is the Year of the Cosmos, did you know?
Until recently, no new varieties had appeared, but hybridisation has changed that. From Japan came ‘New Choco’ with a combination of dark, sultry colouring and chocolate fragrance

Shirley

I did not know that, Bubble..... hope to have my yard in better shape next spring and maybe I can find the new cosmos seeds.  I did have the mixed colors a couple years, they love to spread their seeds everywhere and I let them grow where ever.  Did not make my husband happy, he likes organized & neat flower beds... as long as they did not get in the way of his riding mower!  We went from winter to hot summer very early, no enjoying working outside at all.  Very few flowers anywhere this year (in my little world).

Beautiful photo, Sato, I love the angle of it. I forget to "shoot up" unless the blooms are over my head, such as the mimosa tree that is blooming this year.  Only a few blooms because it is a young tree growing from one we cut down at least 7-8 years ago.

Better rush & feed cats & me. Have a great day!

so_P_bubble

Where are the photos from the young mimosa tree blooming???

SCFSue

I hate mimosa trees.  My neighbors had one for years which was lovely when in bloom, but it sent hundreds of baby mimosas into my yard and no matter how often I dig them up, more come.  Putting poison on them doesn't work very well.  And I hate to get that sprayer out to fix them.  It involves putting on long sleeved shirts and long pants and Alabama summers are just too hot for that!

The pink blooms are pretty, but the seedlings grow way too fast!

Jack, nosy question - in another folder we were talking about phobias and bridges came up.  I mentioned the New Bridge and someone asked if only the New Bridge bothered you, or all bridges.  I said I thought all bridges, but I did not know.  I also thought you were afraid of heights.  Please enlighten me.

Mary Ann

Shirley

Sue, I have the same problem with my neighbor's redbud tree!  They grow everywhere, even the cracks of the sidewalk & driveway. I have pulled up dozens & dozens to put in a pot to give to people & have them all over my yard.  The tree is in their front but the seed pods come over the house & fill the pool.  There was an old mimosa in this back yard when we bought & it also popped up babies any where .... we mowed & dug them up but none survived after the old one died.  Out of the blue one came up next to the driveway & I babied it until it was hanging over the Rialta & my husband was convinced it caused mildew on the top & cut it down.  The new RV parks on the other side of the driveway so no reason this "off shoot" can't grow from the root, since it is doing so well.

Bubble, I plucked off half a dozen photos from the camera & took one to the "shrink" site online only to have it refuse to do the job "because it is too large".... over 6 MB.... So will have to download them to the computer downstairs & resize.  So far I have not figured how to get the right size with Windows help. (Jack, I am hopeless)... I even found the photo of my lemon potatoes.... looks almost as good as yours & has my mouth watering again!

I came in here to quickly download & resize those photos & then take a nap, less than 5 hours sleep last night.  Cats are zonked out so good time for me to join them, not getting anything else done this way~~  All is quiet so will check back later.  Shirley

Mary Ann I kept my eyes straight ahead when going over the bridge.  Here is another view I can pass on.

Mary Ann

Thanks, Jack, that's what I told the others.  Do you have a fear of heights or is it just being high up with nothing on the sides - such as a bridge.

That Airlander10 looks interesting, but I think I'll pass.  In the picture of the outside, I could not find any windows, but interior views do show windows.  I really think my flying days are over, however, you never know, an emergency may come up where it would be necessary.  They've changed so many rules etc that is isn't fun to fly anyway.  I did note in something that American is bring back free carryons.

Jackie and Mary Ann I have problems with heights.  Have not been on a plane for over 20 years and doubt I ever will be.

Bubble, attractive bags.  They do sell bags for groceries but I always just have them use the plastic bags and add to the pollution.

Mary Ann

Jack, what do you do with your plastic bags after you put your groceries away?  That is more important than the fact you get them at the store.

Now that we are using the store shopper with Tom picking up the groceries, we get our groceries in paper bags, then we recycle them.  I did have cloth bags when I was doing the shopping.  We do get plastic bags in with the paper but we can reuse them in various ways.

Mary Ann

jackwv

MaryAnn the city collects paper and cans but not plastic bags.  My local Krogers has several bins at their location for the return of used bags.

Lindancer

Bubbles I do have some reusable bags, I do need the plastic bags for the cat litter.

Since we got the the new cheaper garbage man in the park, we do not recycle he use to pick up twice a week. I thought it was the law to recycle. Now the park says he does it later?????????????

Jack, Jackie and Mary Ann, sign me up - I'll go :D ;D.  That looks and sounds fascinating .  I've never had a problem with heights.  I have always wanted to try parachuting and go to that Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona that has the all glass viewing platform hanging over the Grand Canyon.

No chance of doing any of this now, as I have always told my kids, dreams are free :)

I take my re-usable paper bags to my church.  We have a group of members, mostly women, who work at our local food bank's store for needy seniors once a month.  These members take the donated Kroger bags to the food bank store and they are re-used so that the seniors can take their groceries home.  I'm happy to know the bags are re-used and not thrown away.

I'm with you, MaryTX - Dreams are free.  I have a couple of things/dreams on my "bucket list" - a ride on one of the boats that are on the Rhine River in Germany, or any of the boats or any German river, for one.  Jim's son and his wife went on such a trip in June.  She was still transferring her pictures from smart phone to computer when I was there in early July so I did not see them.  Another thing I'd like to do is go out west again and go from AZ to MT and see the various natural wonders we have out there.

As the saying goes - I can dream, can't I?

We put our plastic bags in with the recycle stuff that is picked up every other week.  The paper bags go in there too.  We do recycle cans and newsprint, empty boxes, almost everything allowable.
