Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Great photo of memories.  Mary Ann have not met you,but that does not mean I do not know you . It was a special day in Grand Rapids when I met Norm and Dot and Pat. We all store these memories.

Mary Ann

Sandy, my mother used to tell me, "good things come in small packages".  So there!  I have heard that "Short People" song many times.  Thanks for playing it.

Beverly, if I was 5 feet tall in my prime, I'm stretching it and the last time I was measured, I was 4 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.  I have to have any clothing altered, always have about six inches taken off the bottom.

The thing is that no one else in my family is as short as I am, at least after they are fully grown.  I had only six first cousins and the men are/were well over six feet.  The Harton brothers are 6'5".  Even the women are/were about 5'8" at least.  I think my mother told me I had a milk problem as a baby and I was given barley water.  Nothing I can do about it now!

Nothing wrong with being short! My husband is short and I like him just fine that way!  My 20 year old grandson is short but he's good looking, popular and one of the nicest kids I know.  Men do seem to see being short as a problem.  :(

Mary Ann - Having to have clothing altered is a nuisance. Petite sizes in pants are still too long for me sometimes.

I'm getting off topic here! Anyone with some photos?

Vanilla-Jackie

Beverly, yes I have some photos....now for a complete change of subject....wine....or rather our grape vines....This was left behind from previous owners and were just bare twigs when we moved in here five months ago....The grapes are smaller than they look but, hoping we still get another month of sun so we can at least get to sample a few....They are growing in the position of where our sun reaches the best....

Jackie - How wonderful to have grapes on your property.

angelface555

Beverly, nice photo but I think someone crashed beforehand!  ;)

JeanneP

Angel. Looks like those grape vines are doing well.  You going to try making some wine. Not hard to do.  Will not be enough for you to put in a barrel and Stomp them. Always thought would like to do that.

Jackie how wonderful to have a grape vine in your own yard.   I would not try to make wine but just pick and eat them, hope they grow larger and sweeter.

BEVERLY....
....yes its not everyday one has their own little vineyard....
I like your tree, also....

JEANNE P.....
....those grapes belong to me, NOT Angel, but I would be willing to share....

JACK WV....
....thank you, yes if we are lucky enough for them to grow a tad bigger, so that we can eat them, there will be two of us in the queue waiting....We are both quite surprised at just how many bunches there are, the vines run along the top of our blue and purple decking fence above some seating down below, if we choose, we could sit there, and just reach up and pick them....just hope our warm-weather lasts another month, be a shame too see the grapes reach this far, then drop off and die...

Sorry Jackie.  I suppose that grape vines will grow down in the area of Uk where you are.  Doubt would in Lancashire.  Don't know though as lots of Blackberry and gooseberry bushes did well up there.
Never had a grape pie.  Try them. should be almost like a sweeter Gooseberry. That was my favourite.

Jackie, good looking grapes, nice picture. My old homestead, had a large grape arbor, that cover the whole kitchen part of the house.

MaryAnn, not only age, but I was 4 11, now 4 10 or shorter, i could reach the 2nd kitchen shelf in my closets, but now just the 1st one. My husband was 6ft., we look like a perfec10, he tall and thin and me?  My grandmother and my g.father were also like Cyriel and I When shopping I am always looking for someone to get a package off the top shelf.

I was 5 6, now down to 5 3    was always the shortest boy in the class.  Fortunately was about eye to eye with Shirley at 5 5 and she would not wear high heels.

Sorry to say, fall is just around the corner and understand from the hot summer it will not be a pretty fall.  Will just have to take in all the fading beauty now, like this evening.

That is a lovely scene, Jack.  I need to take some photos before I forget how to use my camera.  Oglebay will be planting their mums soon, I guess.  That's a scene to look forward to!

Mary Ann

Gloria de, I can reach the fronts of the second shelves.  Anything behind what is in front is lost to me.

Where I grew up at one time was a fruit farm.  We had a cherry tree, plum and peach trees in our yard, others had apples, more cherries.  There still was a farm from our house down to a main street and on the farm were grape vines.  We played in the vines and I have no recollection of collecting them.  I know my mother made grape juice but I think she bought the grapes at the Farmer's Market.

Pretty scene, Jack.  I didn't realize you were short.  I guess we don't see your picture with other men.  When I would say that someone was taller than I, Norm would say, "every one is taller than you!"

Mary Ann

Shirley

Beautiful photo, Jack.  Heard today that KS had more than normal rain so maybe it will be a pretty fall here.

Jackie, great shots of your grapes!  My father had taken cuttings from some that he had gotten from his "home place".  The vines were planted on the original farm in MO after the family came from France.  When they built the house in town they brought along some of the vines.  Dad said they had Tokay, Concord & the green grapes to make good wine.  They also made their own vinegar. He had a bucket full of cuttings for me but I didn't get to visit soon enough so he gave them to a niece and I never did get any.  Keep us posted on how yours do!

I took a ride over on the link & thoroughly enjoyed seen a lot of photos of old friends!  Now I must go take a shower & wash off the bug spray so I can get to bed.  I cleaned out some weeds in a little flower bed tonight.

Thank you all for your comments re, our grape vines......yes when we moved in all you could see were intertwined thin sticks part running along the top of our blue painted decking fence, completely bare...strange to imagine those sticks coming so much to life, given a few months and strong sunshine....and produce something so wonderful as bunches of pure fresh grapes....Isn't nature marvellous...Of course we haven't sampled them yet....  ;)

JACK WV....
...I so envy you your Oglebay resort, and on top of your front door, or just a short doggy ride away....I know how much it is your favourite dog walking spot...It really does look a magnificent park that changes colours with the seasons....so the park will never look the same on any two days...
.......................................................
Ahh yes, our " Short Listing Club " my height too has gone down a tad from 5ft 2 & a half - 5ft 3... to... 5 ft 1& a half..of course I blame it on my MS......ok, well age might also have something to do with it...they do say we shrink as we get older...

Mary Ann, Shirley, Jean and Jackie thanks.  I forgot about the mums that are due shortly and was surprised I had no photo of them from prior years.

Lindancer

Jack, love the colors and shadow in your photo

My sons blamed me for their height. they wanted to be as tall as their father, but were a little shorter.

How I hated being short growing up.  Tried all kinds of things to make me grow. Then for 32 years only wore 4 inch heels. (Can't stand them now). Would only date men who were over 6 ft. Husband was 6ft 2. I am 5ft 1. the doctor says now.
if men were shorter I would have them meet me where I didn't have to walk with them. I would meet them later in life and was so sorry. All such nice men.
Stores do not cater to us short women. Even when checking out the CC machines are hard to see the readings. Always put what I need up high. And buying slacks. They even think of the Petite size as 5ft. 3 ins. Have to look for P short. Thank goodness I don't put weight on or would look like a little butter ball.
Look at my only granddaughter who is over 6 ft. and wonder where it came from and her poor brother came up being about 5ft 6'. Life not fair.

I am 6ft tall and my wife was 4ft, 9 inches. For most of her life she bought her shoes in the children's department, which was good because there was no tax on children's shoes

JeanneP

Don.  Did they always call you and Wife. " Mutt and Jeff" was it..  We women were small but could sure handle the tall men. People use  to say that small women were more bossy. Not true. we were sweeter.  That was really short for your wife.  Usually English women taller. The men seem to be the short ones. Did she wear the real tall shoes? Who did your children take after? All mine and the Grands are tall.

It seems Don likes them in small packages   :2funny:
I always wished I could be taller.  Now in a chair I am even more shorter.

JeanneP

It does seem like tall men like small women.   See it so often..  The ones that don't match to me are the very small skinny women with the great big heavy husbands. or Heavy women with very small skinny men.  Surprising how people choose.  Did you Bubble stop growing when you got the Polio . How old were you?

Jack - That's a lovely area. Sad to hear the foliage season may not be good. For the first time in many years we will be in Vermont in time for the foliage season and I am so hoping for it to be a good one. We usually make the trip up there in summer.

Shirley

I'm here, read at least once a day but am too tired to talk tonight~  I was forced to cut down some tall cane that grew unexpectedly in a little piece of ground where yucca plant and a park like light fixture with 4 lights stands, at the end of the sidewalk from the porch where it joins the driveway.  The cane was twice as tall as the pampas grass & zebra ornamental grass and the blooms were full so rain bent them over so they covered the entire driveway behind my car in the garage.  Have another spot where it started this year, guess thanks to the birds?  Quite a job cutting it down & tying the canes together in 4' lengths so the trash people will haul them off.  Had to take a shower & wash my hair 'cause I was dripping wet from working so hard.  Got the pool taken care of yesterday so spent a little time cleaning around it again today (nobody swims in it, like a flower garden, it's just there).  Even cleaned the sink drain in my bathroom, job I hate but vinegar & baking soda did the trick.

Been raining off & on since about 5:00 pm.... more thunder & lightning & flash flood warning until Sat.  Cats don't know what to do with themselves.   :o   I'm a little over 5'1" & my husband was 6'2"... Mutt & Jeff... My favorite dance partners in high school were short guys.... jitterbuggers....  Good night, all..........

Bubble. Now I thought you got it at a much later time in life.  2 years, so young. But I suppose you don't remember any other way of being. You seem to have had a full life and been a cheerful person. Bet your parents let you be very independent.
I have 2 people I know that were born with. Spina Biffita . I can't even spell it. Both grown now to be in their late 20s. One is in every world Olympics. She was adopted from A Russian Orphanage at the age of 3 by a couple who were Professors here at the Univ. Of Ill. She Won 4 Gold medals  in past year. Teaches at the University here. the other now a Lawyer and getting ready to marry. Again came with birth. Always seem to be so cheerful.
You have a great family and now Don to add to it.
I still like the saying I always knew. (Just  To Blessed, to be Depressed.)

Understand we may not have pretty fall foliage this year.  Hope they are wrong but hard to match past falls at Oglebay.

On the first photo that is not a lake but early morning mist.
