Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Great picture, Jack.  Is that location near you?  It looks a lot like a West Virginia hillside to me.
Sue

Jack, that will make a great jigsaw!

Lindancer

Good afternoon.  Carol lovely Spring flowers, thanks for posting.

Beverly, like the picture of the birch trees, and your nicelooking family

Jack, that is such a peacefull looking scene.

Patricia, so interesting about the birch trees.  I had three white birch trees in my baclk yard, until we had hurricane Gloria, years ago, took them all down.

That is a great photo, Jack, of a lovely, serene setting.

I have to ask since you are in the south, is your river water a green or greenish hue? I wonder because ours is such a blue color and when I went to GA, KY, and TN, their water was green. Now I know it has a lot to do with minerals. Here it is hard rock country, granite, iron, gold, quartz, etc., but I wondered.

Patricia, way up your way I guess we are south.   I am in the northern part of WV near Pittsburgh.   The photo was taken way south and close to Kentucky and part of Virginia.

The Ohio river is usually a murky green.  Understand it still has lots of pollution.  For years steel mills lined the river from Pittsburgh to south of Wheeling.   Looks good to me but would not swim in it.

Sue that is close to Beckly and the New River Bridge.
Gloria thanks, and Bubble there are probably puzzels now with it.  The photo is on Calendars and all over the state.

Most of the views the same, I stood in the water to take mine.   Get a look at some professional shots.

Mary Ann

Jack, I'll take your shot.

Jack, most of the ones shown in your link have that greenish tinge. I often thought it might be moss or something similar. I also like your photo as MaryAnn said.

jackwv

Thanks MaryAnn.   Patricia, again that is way south and not the Ohio River.

Jack, as I am further than 3,915.5 miles from you, (Distance between Fairbanks & Pittsburg); everything is southern. However, I was commenting on the photos in your link. One of our larger of the five rivers bisecting our town, the Chena, is 3,779.6 miles from the Ohio river, (Isn't Google, grand?).

The Ohio River at Cario is brown in the photos and one of Pittsburgh, showing the Ohio River meeting with the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River has that green tinge. And yes I know they are cleaning up pollution, but I wonder if the color has as much to do with minerals besides any pollution.

I wanted to find an online map of the US showing states and rivers, but each one showed a tiny Alaska and tiny Hawaii, somehow migrated to the Gulf of Mexico....... When I looked at US rivers, none were shown in Alaska.

The Tanana river, bisecting the south side of town is muddy with no real visibility due to glacial silt. I am showing a photo from a cam, not mine.

The following is one of the Chena from[attachimg=2] the northeast and center of town. You can see that both rivers are cutting into the banks and toppling trees which causes under water hazards.

Beverly

Jack - Your picture of the mill looks professional to me. Beautiful!

Angelface - Your second photo is reminiscent of scenes in northern New England, especially Maine.

jackwv

Beverly thanks, I owe it all to a good point and shoot camera.

Beverly

Angelface - I never thought of the color of rivers.........Where I lived most of the rivers reflected the sky color at the time. Mostly the water is clear and you can see the rocks at the bottom unless it's really deep. The larger rivers can be muddy looking after a rain. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene had a devastating effect on our smaller rivers in Vermont. For the second time since the 1927 flood the path of the White River has changed.

A brook, not a river, but I like the photo.

Beverly

Part of the White River near where I lived, before the flood.

JeanneP

Jack.  I love seeing that photo of the Old Mill and the wheel.  Been awile since I made pictures by copying the ones I like. Should do this one. Need to change a couple hanging in the bathroom.  Had the LIght houses on for a while. I may do this one.

Beverly, your photos are very close to what we have here. Your photo of the White River looks very similar to the Chena River.

Many of our local rivers are older. I have forgotten the scientific name for that, but the banks are eroding. Folks put rocks, old cars, logs and other items to reinforce the banks, but it is a serious issue here. Several small area villages are actually moving their entire towns back away from the waters.

All five local rivers change channels many times. Two of our local lakes are almost empty because of the water draining out and going elsewhere. Twice in the last ten years, they have had to re-dredge and re-do the highways as the river changed and made new channels through the roads.

I do not access here for a long time, and I'm sorry very much.

I have cardiomyopathy, and it is seven months.
I went to my hospital on September 15, and my heart seems to recover smoothly, and my dactor said the trip seems to be OK, too.
It will be the result that it regarded as too much important for these seven months that my body is a somehow heavy feeling.
And, as for the one which is thankful for, physical; there is the paralysis nowhere.
I stroll in my garden as ever, but my rose of Sharon and my cotton rose get closer to the end, and Aster ageratoides is in full blossom.

FlaJean

Sachiko, have been thinking of you and Sato.  Glad you are so much better. We haven't heard from Sato in many weeks.

I enjoy the photos of your lovely garden.

SACHIKO and SATO....
...You are both very special people who I/we are happy to have on our forum.... I like many, have both loved and enjoyed seeing your home photos and your past video clips...but aware that life changes can now prohibit what we once, was capable of doing.....However your smile and your garden photos lighten up my day....I am so happy for you that your garden brings you such pleasure and joy, even though you may not be able to manage it in the way, as before your illness and hospital stay...

Jack, Mary Ann, angerface, halkei, Joy, Jean, Vanilla-Jackie, Thank you very much for your comments!
I am very glad of your gentle words. I will recover these little by little. And I will be to send my photo again.

so_P_bubble

Hurray!  Sachiko is back :)  It is great to admire your photos again and to see you on the mend.  Take care!

Sachiko3

So P Bubble, thank you very much for your warm words.
As for me, it was not yet gone out in the distance, but I came to be able to take the photo of the flowers in my garden.

Sachiko3

I found that cluster amaryllises bloomed in my backyard today. The cluster amaryllis blooms by all means in the Autumnal Equinox Day.

so_P_bubble

I would never have guessed these to be amaryllis.  They look more like lilies, and the leaves are different from the usual plant.
Thanks for introducing them to me :D
