Patricia,   The first one is just beautiful.  Imagine driving along that road and coming up over a hill and seeing that in front of you.  It is certainly a  breathtaking scene.  I didn't realize that you couldn't get to Juneau except by water or air.  I  know most of the cruses ships always seem to have a stop in Juneau.  I imagine it is a very large city that has most anything a person would need to live there. I suppose there are a lot of people who never have left the city.

Interesting pictures.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Shirley, there are ferries but you are right, mountainous driving is for the younger among us.

Joy, there are always folks that never leave their homes. But Juneau as the capital is quite cosmopolitan with not only lawmakers, holiday and cruise folks as well as European adventurers drawn by the land, mountains, (The highest outside of Everest); and sea.

There is also the less expensive polar route which draws more Europeans than Americans with more distance and less money available for longer trips. And then Alaska exports to Asia, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia, and also brings scientists from all over the northern climes for research, study, and implementation of climate change, farming, land, and sea resources and more.

Our University's home campus at Fairbanks, has one of only nine supercomputers in the world. So that is a big scientific draw. One odd item is we have such pure, for now, water, that ships actually tow frozen icebergs for export to Asia. Although Norway is doing more of it now. The majority of our oil is also exported to Asia.

Don.  I think that is when the U.K and Europe change their clocks also.  2 weeks from now.
You were most probably to tired from the busy day to think to turn your station on.
I forgot the time change also.

Bubble. I was just looking up Natanya.  I thought it was a small city but wrong. Very interesting area.
I think I mentioned to you that at one time my elder brother lived in Haifa. Quite close.

Little info.
Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. It is 30 km (18.64 mi) north of Tel Aviv, and 56 km (34.80 mi) south of Haifa, between the 'Poleg' stream and Wingate Institute in the south and the 'Avichail' stream in the north. Netanya was named in honor of Nathan Straus of Macy's, a prominent Jewish American merchant and philanthropist in the early 20th century.

Its 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) of beaches have made the city a popular tourist resort. In addition, the city is known for its large immigrant population. A significant percentage of the city's population consists of immigrants from the former Soviet Union, France, and Ethiopia, and the city is home to a notably large population of English-speaking immigrants from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Must not be a old city if it was named after the Owner of  Macy's although his stores do go back a long time now.  My Favourite store still.

ANGELFACE ( Patricia )...
...thank you for the photos, I now know how beautiful parts of Alaska can be, not only from the photos you posted but, I recently watched a tv documentary of Jane McDonald who once worked herself on cruise ships as an entertainer, a singer but, this time she was cruising on the new Holland - America's Nieuw Amsterdam luxury cruise liner...During this cruise she took in Juneau - Ketchikan - Skegway and included was a day trip to Glacier Bay...I have to admit her cruise and scenery was simply stunning and breathtaking scenery..She also got off the boat and took part in some dog sledding, I believe this took place in Juneau...All I know is she loved every bit of her journey, she was so bubbly, and alive..

As town it  was founded around 1951.  It was covered in snow in winter 1950!  The only time it ever happened.

I think my brother in Heifa about that time.  I suppose buildings were going on in your town in order to house lots of people coming in from Europe. I know that they were trying toget young people in UK to volunteer Togo out. I signed up but was not allowed. Many of my friends want.
Must have been a hard time. Bet people not prepared for snow.
I now that lots of Kubutz had started up . Are there still lots of them going? I suppose by now lots of flats have been built for young people and the seniors and retirees .

snowing hard here today. Maybe one that will need shoveling later. Think will just relax, read and watch movies.
Noticed it was still dark at 7am. That is bad as we have school buses picking up the first children at that time. Awful on these cold mornings. They should not make that time change until later in the spring.y

Thank you all who commented on my state. The South East is absolutely beautiful, but only one out of four separate climatic and geographical areas in this state. They all have beauty, perhaps not as overt as the Southeast, but I wish I could invite you all here to visit and tour!

Bubble, Natanya is beautiful with it's people, surfers,(ahem...); squares, and seasides! You know I wish I could visit! I would love to go about everywhere. You might have been stuck with me!

Good evening, waiting for our big blizzard. Pray the power does not go off, with the 60mi. winds that are predicted.

Love the picture of Don and Bunny  Christmas and Easter.

Patricia what beautiful pictures. Thanks for all your information, I have learned so much about Alaska.

The snow has started here but we are having a slight lull at this time.  The weather map doesn't look to good at this time.  I'm hoping it will push inland a bit and then we may get rain rather than the snow.

We did not get the snow, just a dusting.  Hope all goes well for you up east.

Shirley

Jack, I haven't heard from my cousin for a while.... was their area hit hard?

Rick, are you in the path of deep stuff?

JeanneP

New York and areas seem to really have gotten it hard.  It stopped snowing here and is going to warm up.  so out I go to dig my car out and do a little running around.

Shirley they were to get 10 inches last night, but do not know what they actually got.  Most received less than predicted, thankfully.

Mary Ann

Jack, I don't know where Shirley's cousin lives, but I noticed there is a lot of snow in the southern part of W Va and not so much in the panhandle.  Our part of Michigan did not get much snow and I'm sorry for the folks in New England as they are getting buried.

Angel those truly are spectacular pictures.
I figured Bubble pretty well covered the Purim pictures which is why I didn't any.
It is sunny and warm here in Israel which kind of enhances my enjoyment as I read about the weather terrible in the USA and Canada

Don, I sent my son the photos of the landscape & he was as surprised as I've been at the "resort" type beaches.  I would love to see it but can't drive there with these cats.   :tissue:

Mary Ann, my cousin has 2 places that are "sort of" where Jack lives, he knows better than I do where they are.  I did seriously think about driving that direction, my cousin, Eileen, says there is a National Forest campground or state-county one not far from them (I insist on sleeping in the RV so the cats can run the whole place at night for their exercise, they don't run around when moving).  From what my cousin says, they are not far from Baltimore but on the West VA side, both she & husband worked for the gov in DC.  They live on top of a mountain with 17 acres & have a "pod" type house with 3 levels.  They bought more ground with a lake & planned to build but instead bought a huge new house trailer & had it "built" in, same general area. She doesn't worry about power outages because they have 2 generators to handle full house needs, that kick on automatically (at their house).  The photos are awesome.  She drives to MO to visit her siblings every Nov so I go back & we have a family reunion.  Not very many of us left, but she still has a 90+ year old aunt that lives in the same town where I grew up so her son brings her to Golden Corral & quite a few of my nieces & nephews, brother & wife & sister & husband, her brother & sister & some of their family.  We still fill a room at Golden Corral with the younger...50-60 year old kids.

Thanks, Jack, I'll check in with her.  We don't visit often, usually just when it's time to meet.  If I ever do get that far I'd love to meet you at Oglebay for a walk with Mimi.  I can dream, can't I?

jackwv

Shirley  I believe she is near Friendsville Md, not far from Deep Creek, a beautiful area.   You can email her location.  Would love to have you stop on the way.  Do not know how Mimi would greet the cats but she lived with two.

Joy

Oh Shirley,  You don't know how much I would love to visit Oglebay and was hoping to get up that way when my grandson lived in Pittsburg, but never happened.  It would be great to be able to meet up with you AND Jack sometime.  Like you,  I can mostly only daydream,, also.  I am not that far from there........... maybe 4 or 5 hours.

As Jack mentioned, he isn't far from Deep Creek and that would be an ideal for you and your RV and cats.

Jack, we didn't have as much snow as they were predicting,  I think they said Westminster had about 8 in.  It has been flurries all afternoon.  I think we probably had about the same amount.  THey were predicting at least a foot or more.  All of my son's and their wives got to work without any problems.  But, it sure is COLD !!!

Mary Ann

Shirley, if your cousin lives near Maryland, I doubt she's close to Jack.  I have lived in Michigan since I was 16 months old and I spent most of those 16 months in Wellsburg, W Va, which is near Jack.  Wellsburg and Wheeling are kind of in the panhandle of W Va, west of Pittsburgh.  I'd be interested in seeing Oglebay too, but my long distance traveling days are over.  The furthest I travel these days is to Indianapolis and I don't do the driving.  In an emergency, I'd fly somewhere but those days are past too.

I keep watching the Weather Channel, being glad I'm not in the snow areas.  Our snow is "lake effect" snow for the most part and is usually quite light.

You said you couldn't drive to Israel with the cats; I doubt you'd be able to drive there without the cats, too.

We got (a guess) about 8", but then it turned to a rain/sleet mixture. Lots of wind and drifting.  My car is next to my house and the snow just "ramps" off the hood to the ground.  It's wet, heavy, and frozen.  Luckily I have no where to go in the near future.  My son just dug his car out. He is just off the street. 25°F now and supposed to stay low for a couple of days.
Maybe when the sun (optimist) comes out tomorrow I'll get some pic's. For sure I'll be doing some shoveling.  A bit north of here it was worse.
It's the WINDMILLS

Shirley

Rick, go easy with the shoveling.... we aren't teenagers yet~  Our temps are going back up, even to 80 some time in the next week.... Will be sure to send it on.

Mary Ann, my cousin tried to explain but I don't remember what she said.  From what I found years ago when we started e-mailing was it is a wonderful, historic part of the US.  She usually has her husband or an old friend that drives back & forth to MO with her... she is a few years younger than I am.  I have her snail-mail address, but not even sure which computer that is on.  For sure these cats will keep me from traveling overseas or any place I can't drive.  Crazy, huh?

Joy, I think it would be such fun if we could all meet at Oglebay for a few hours, and have everyone that has a means to join us.  Hey, I love to think about doing it, even if it doesn't work out.  I have stayed overnight in a Walmart parking lot but rather be in a campground with electrical hook ups.  TV won't work without power & the generator is too noisy..... but I will run it to have a cup of hot coffee!  I finally got brave & drive with the propane on so the frig & freezer stay cold.... no more panic about enough ice to keep stuff safe.  Also can use the stove or oven.... but no TV & I like news & no brainer shows while chilling out.  The cats love the Walmart parking lots & watch all the activity that goes on all night.... more critters running around there than out in the woods.

Jack, no chance Mimi would meet the cats, they stay hidden under the end of the bed when anyone comes in. I close the bedroom door so they can't panic & dart out when I open the side door, they would never quit running and I'd never find them.  The one time Tom got out in MO it was 5:00 am, dark and not a human in sight.  Someone must have peeked in a window while I was in the donut shop, he was standing against the driver window, had turned his cage over & sprung the cage door to get out.... and I had my hands full of a box of donuts & my billfold & keys.... couldn't catch him when I finally gave up & opened the door.  I thought I'd pass out carrying him back to the Rialta, he weighs about 18 pounds.  Got him in his cage, looked for my keys & billfold... found the billfold UNDER the Rialta so was crawling under to get it out as the street got busy & sun came up.  That was 3 years ago & would not want a repeat of that, so am careful to lock them in the bedroom before unlocking any of the doors.  The donut shop opens at 4:00 am, been full of people every time I've been there.... closes when they are sold out, usually before noon.  To get a variety of their goodies you have to be there at least by 5:00, and I always bring a box full home to share.

I've been watching for an order from Chewy that said would be delivered today.... and still didn't get here.  I checked & says now it will come tomorrow.  I don't mind as long as they didn't leave it at some other house, and that has happened before with Amazon!

Time to round up cats.  Callie is sleeping in the kitchen/family room, Tiger in here by me and Tom & Lauren are outside.  Those two have a "thing" about being able to go out when every they want.

jackwv

We will be cold but no snow for several days.  Had a pop up on a timelapse on Acuweather and was able to find it on youtube, short and well worth the look.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6kAVLL0TtY

Shirley you might email me that address, I seem to recall going to google map sometime ago and looking over their spot.

Joy you also live in a beautiful area, but have not been back since the dog agility competitions.

Rick watch that heavy snow, no lifting.

Shirley

Love the snow piling up, Jack.... think I will just be glad I don't have to clean up this morning.  I went to bed a little after 11:00 pm last night & woke up with eyes itching this morning at 2:48... they kept itching so couldn't go back to sleep & got up about 3:30 am.  Knew Andy was to be here between 8:00 & 8:30 so thought I'd take my shower & wash hair after having my breakfast & feeding cats.  By the time I finished my shower & dressed, had an hour to go before the day really started.  Tiger wanted to sleep with me so I didn't go sound enough to get any rest.  Andy came & went, fixed the security system so all doors "ding" when opened, got the knobs put on a folding door so I can lock cats in or out to keep them out of the dining & living rooms.  It is nice to have the 2 rooms seen from the front entrance.... CLEAN. Cats not allowed in them!  I will look for the address after a nap.... still waiting for Chewy delivery, but it is supposed to be "out for......" so not on somebody else's porch!

jackwv

Shirley have you tried the baby shampoo.  Probably an allergy, I have a problem with cats, but never with my Goldens.

We have been lucky this year with snow.  I would like to visit the park while it is snowing.  This is a scene I captured a previous winter, of the Mansion.

Jack, that looks like a nice gently snow
