Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Jack, you live in a truly beautiful part of our country. Everything looks so green and fresh. Lovely resting places as you walk. Thanks for sharing the pics. with us. A welcome sight.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

...Oh how my eyes lit up when I read of your rain...another hot one today then possible showers from then on...bring on the rain I say....only then I shall be dancing in the garden...

...that looks like the place I need, somewhere where their is seating every few yards or so...I do envy your Oglebay...not sure whether we have anything to match it, maybe we have something here in Dorset on a similar par..maybe somewhere...

so_P_bubble

so uplifting photos here, I enjoy all those shares.  Super!

The time has come when I always seek out the shade.  Even on hot evenings there is usually a slight breeze and cooler being out of the sun.  Years back when we went to the seashore  I would keep a shirt on and sit under an umbrella.  Mimi and Oglebay  are what I appreciate daily to give myself some quiet time in a great setting.

jackwv

I copied this from a video I took last week.   We went to the park and when I opened the door on the suv I found I had forgotten her leash.  Debated going home for it but instead decided to go to a picnic grove that usually was empty that time of day.  I was wrong, I pulled in to see 3 vans with young children.   They all came to the window to see Mimi.  I asked the 3 women with them if any were  afraid of dogs and was told most had them and asked if I would let her out of the vehicle.  Mimi was all for it, as the photo shows.

Beautiful Jack.....  lovely place to stroll  with your pup

Mary Ann

Jack, what fun for both you and Mimi.  She looks like she's in seventh heaven.

Short story, true.   My son in law is a Minister.  He is now retired but tells of the time he had a service for young children.  He said they were shy, but usually one would respond.  He asked "what do you do if people are hungry"  Little girl replied "you feed them"   He then asked "What do you do if people are thirsty"   Same girl replied "you give them something to drink"   His last question was "what do you do for strangers"  She then replied "you run and yell for your mother"   He said at that point he had to stop the service, every one would not stop laughing.

I tell this story since if I were an old man walking around the park alone, I would normally be ignored.   With Mimi, no one is a stranger and I love it!  When children do run up I always tell them to ask their parents if it is ok.

FlaJean

Lovely photos, Jack.  Cute story.  Also shows she had concerned and caring parents.  I trust you had a very nice Father's Day with your daughter visiting.

Father's Day Our daughter and husband brought over dinner and after dinner we had fun playing Mexican Train and another domino game---a very pleasant day.  We are watching the storm in the Gulf.  Looks like it is heading towards western Louisiana, but we're keeping an eye on the Weather Channel.  Rainy and overcast here but good reading weather.

...I would feel the same as that little girl, and indeed I have even at my age, if I was to see an " old man, " or indeed any ( stranger, ) man, of any age, walking in the park without a dog...even though he was completely harmless...guess its the age we now live in, where we have to be aware, and even suspicious of strangers..wasn't like that during our childhood days...we never worried about dangers, even though they were still out there..

Jack, I bet your Minister son-in-law could tell many stories he has picked up through his congregation that he could relay in humour, but it is probably more than his jobs worth to do so..... ;D...

jackwv

Jean hope all is well with the storms.

Jackie it is a strange time, sad, worry about the young ones the way the world is headed.

Vanilla-Jackie

...I often say, and will still do say..." for every one bad person, ( or nutter, ) their are tenfold good people...I would still like to believe that...

Mary Ann

Jean, I looked at my computer radar and it looks as if the heavy stuff will miss Louisiana, however, they will get rain.  And it looks as if Joan will get rain, but not the storms which will head toward Florida, south of the panhandle.  Things also look as if rain is headed in our direction.

Jack - out of the mouths of babes.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Mary Ann, you are right with out of the mouth  of babes.    Our Parish Priest several weeks ago said he was speaking to a bunch of first and second graders.   He asked them what they thought Jesus first words were when he rose from the dead.   One of the girls put her hand up and when he called her she rose both hands to the sky and said   Ta Da !

Believe that might be right, in looking at so many cards with His image.

Mary Ann

Jack, great story.

Two more bench views from this evening.

I keep going back & back to see if I missed any photos.... what fun y'all have been up to while I was gone.  Glad to see you back, Sachiko, looking as beautiful as ever.  Sorry about the arm but was good not a hip or leg, at least you can still get around!

Sato, must be frustrating not to be able to get out.  Is your wife still taking those beautiful photos?  You make a good team when you worked together to post, maybe you can do that until you can get out yourself.

I do have gorgeous photos of Colorado but still in the camera, phone and iPod.  The iPod takes such great videos, got amazing ones of the roaring Chalk Creek snow melt.  Fastest & fullest the creek has been in the 40 some years I've been going, and still a lot of snow on the mountains to melt.

My long time friend's husband died Sunday morning so I've been busy doing what I can to help her.  Even though he has been ill for a long time, always a shock.  One of those times where "the squeaky wheel" turned out to be all wheels so I'm racing around trying to oil all the wheels and not getting anything totally finished.

Jack, that is the sweetest photo ever of Mimi entertaining the kids.  Can almost feel the love flowing.

Must get to bed, I catch myself dozing sitting here.  All cats are outside, Callie (Tom & Tiger's mother) has been sticking like glue ever since we got back.  She is such a sweet cat but can't trust her unless I have time to make sure she doesn't get the chance to "mark her territory".  She is at the door when the others come in to eat, so joins them for every meal.... and is at my feet any time I go outside.  I feed & pet her but am not going to adopt, jumpy as she is, I think she would freak out being confined in the RV.

Will try to resize a couple of photos to show you the raging water.  Fascinated me.  Thanks for holding the fort & posting such great photos....  Shirley

...that is what I like, sitting under or around trees but...a little too much concrete for me...It still looks very peaceful and tranquil, I would happily sit for a while on any of the benches flitting from one bench to the other and just watching the world go by...and of course wishing I was part of that world too... ;)

Shirley...
...as they say " Rome wasn't built in a day..." you cant expect yourself to do miracles by " racing around and trying to get everything done..." Slow down and just concentrate on the things that you can do, otherwise you will jeopardise your own health....Your friend has a good friend in you..sending my condolences on the loss of her hubby...

jackwv

Jackie, lots of grass,  that is not concrete, but they have brick paths around the fountains, and the walking trails.

Shirley good to hear you are back home, sorry about your friends.   Will watch for your photos.

FlaJean

Jack, love those views of the park.  It rained softly all night and still off and on.  Having a very relaxing day.

JeanneP

Jack. Just looking at your photo's of the Park cool me down. I havn't even been into ours yet. Not as much shade as yours or as many trees.
Now do many people walk around there like you do.  I never see any activity going on. Like it is your personal park. No traffic at all.  Ours both have big playareas for the children and this really brings in the crowds with their little ones.
JeanneP

jackwv

Jeanne P, the park is not busy during the day and most weekday evenings.  It has a large childrens playground, a small zoo, paddle boats on the lake, and a nice nature center.    I enjoy just the occasional other dog walkers or folks out for a walk.

jackwv

Went up to the park late last night.   It had just rained and cooled things down.  Thought I would catch a late night sunset, but it was still cloudy.   Took this photo of several benches around the fountain.  Sachiko asked about the hanging baskets.  Not as large and not the variety in them from previous years, but always a joy to see.

Marilyne

Jack: That photo looks like a Hallmark card!  Beautiful!

JeanneP

Wish I could get hanging plants to grow like that.  They keep the place always so perfect. Ours or short of funds now and the one owned by State looking a mess.  That park must be private funds. Our Japan House one is and it always looks nice.

Jackwv...
...those hanging baskets are real pretty and quite large, I wonder if they are bought, there are a few so would cost a pretty packet or, whether they are hired, as I know large plants can be done that way, such as for offices etc...certainly cheers up the park and walk area...Hm maybe " not so large " this year, as they are cutting back on funding...

jackwv

JeanneP and Jackie, not a complaint, the baskets are beautiful, guess I am spoiled by the free visits.  They do a great job.

Shirley

The hanging baskets are gorgeous, Jack, but agree they don't have the variety of flowers they usually do.  I wish the wind wasn't so destructive so we could have hanging baskets.  The original owners of this house had hooks in the "over hang", front & back, but since they didn't take care of anything themselves, wonder if their help managed to keep baskets alive.  I have trouble even keep plants alive in containers, just a little too dry and the pots blows off the brick posts (by the sidewalk).  This year I don't even have any pots out, so I really enjoy what you get to see.

Still don't have any photos out of my camera.  Taking the last food to my friend's house tomorrow. The funeral was today but she has company staying through the week end and is not thrilled with the extra people around.  Sometimes we need to hide out and give our brains a rest.  She's had some years of his needing constant care so is exhausted.

jackwv

Shirley I understand how your friend feels.  I appreciated all the attention, but welcomed the quiet time at home.

This evening I spotted something new.  They had one last year but unable to locate the photo.  Here are two umbrella shaped frames mounted on a 4 by 4.  They have hanging baskets hanging under the frame and the flowers growing outside the frame.  They make a nice arrangement.

That is amazing, Jack.  I can't even imagine how beautiful that would be in "real time".  With so many flowers you get to see I would never think about planting and taking care of more at home.   Right now bugs are eating off anything that is blooming in my yard, except the tiger lilies that are starting to bloom.

Oh, finally got 3 photos off the camera so will post them.  Not the best of the bunch but good times.

Here's my camp site, youngest son bought a new canopy for "tail-gating" so put it up for the week.  Worked out nice.

This is Chalk Creek, roaring with snow melt. Not as impressive as the video & do have better shots.

And here's "The Moon Over the Mountain" (song in there).... gorgeous evenings.
