...thank favourite flowers..the Rose...of course the fragrant roses are my main choice...Back where I used to live we had a well-known place in Hertfordshire called Gardens of the Rose based near St Albans but, sadly I read it has now been put on the market to sell, so is closed to visitors...I also went there for outdoor live concerts such as The Proms...joining in with the flag waving's to Rule Britannia - Pomp and Circumstance - Land of Hope and Glory etc, etc...we would take along our folded chairs, lanterns, and picnic for the evenings occasion...I remember one concert we went to see live was the violinist Vanessa Mae...this was an Idyllic setting surrounded by a mixture of colourful Roses...

Donald Malcolm Campbell, CBE...

...1921 – 1967...British speed record breaker who broke eight absolute world speed records on water and on land in the 1950s and 1960s. He remains the only person to set both world land and water speed records in the same year (1964). He died during a speed attempt at Coniston Water in the Lake District, England...

Sue... I have to ask..on that day, did you come away with more than you went in with? ;) hope you had the luck of the Irish with you...

I found your story experience delightful...Ahh yes, when we were young, we never felt the cold, did we? dont think we could get away with skimpy dresses...we know how to, and what it takes to keep ourselves warm...Hats to the races, now that brings me back to the famous lady of...Gertrude Shilling...she would always stun us with her " rather outrageous,  extravagant " and over large hats...she was always hitting the news headlines at Ascot...

To see some brilliant - fascinating, some bizarre and some clever hat wearings, watch or go to our Royal Ascot ( ladies day ) horse racing annual event...I think a day for the ladies to outshine each other with their choice of the day...

Hm, I had better not say it again then... :-[

Bubble...yes, you are right...what struck me as Interesting was this piece...scrolled near the bottom...

" "What struck me during this examination, of course, was the state of perfect preservation of the skeleton, the fibrous tissues of the muscles (still supple and firm), of the ligaments, and of the skin, and above all the totally unexpected state of the liver after 46 years. One would have thought that this organ, which is basically soft and inclined to crumble, would have decomposed very rapidly or would have hardened to a chalky consistency. Yet, when it was cut it was soft and almost normal in consistency. I pointed this out to those present, remarking that this did not seem to be a natural phenomenon."

...isn't it wonderful that no matter what country we live in, the one thing we find that we all come together on, is our love for colour, for our flowers, plants and trees...This is that time of year when all things that once seemed to be dead, Spring alive again for our eyes to enjoy...

Jack wv... sure was lucky that you went when you did but, cant believe those Tulips are soon to be replaced, must cost those gardeners a whole lot of money and must be keeping them on their toes, constantly ( busy...)
...At last, it is good to see our own garden " Springing " to life....well at least it now has some colour, not a lot, but is looking more prettier than it was...
...I do enjoy your Oglebay photos, and of course they wouldn't be the same without your Mimi in them... :dog3:
Jack, are those pink Tulips in the background, if so, I am assuming they will also soon, be replacing them too...

I am very saddened to hear that Chia's time is up, it has come to its final end...

The shadow of my finger cast
Divides the future from the past:
Before it, sleeps the unborn hour
In darkness, and beyond thy power:
Behind its unreturning line,
The vanished hour, no longer thine:
One hour alone is in thy hands, -
The NOW on which the shadow stands.

~ Henry Van Dyke (1904)

I am very saddened by this news, how many more are we going to lose? Chia now makes our fourth member, and we are only four months into this year...Chia brought fun to our forum with her quizzes and kept our grey matter in working order...Chia will be another long-term and loyal member who will sadly be missed from our Seniors and Friends..

May you be in Peace Chia...
