..." Torch " singers is-was a new one on me, I am wondering if it is a similar term to our " Crooners " although they more belong to the males...both are referring to a " sentimental " style...

...you got me inquisitive with your mention of " Torch Singers " never heard of that term before so had to look it us and here  it is..." These (mainly female) singers are known for singing torch songs in a bluesy, jazzy, sultry way to bring out the sensual tones of the voice.." .....link...

...that song was also made famous by Australian singer Frank Ifield ( 1962 ) known for his yodelling...then later by Slim Whitman also known for his yodelling...but agree, more in a country and western style..

I should have posted this Valentines day...14 February...

Best Friends...
by Ron Carnell...

One hand in mine, my hand in thine,
We walk through life's stark shadow,
Two as one and one combine,
To fight the night's dark battle.

My strength to thee, and thine to mine,
Our fervor never fallow,
Two friends are one by co-design
To face our common morrow.

I pledge my trust, thy trust is mine,
Through life's deep joy and sorrow,
One for all and all align
And this our common motto.

Best friend of mine, and mine to thine,
No greater love to follow,
Two as one and one define
A friendship to the marrow...

Not the correct month for posting this but a friend on my UK forum posted it...not a poem I have come across before....

" The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. The memorial is located at the eastern exit of the town and marks the starting point for one of the main roads out of the town that led Allied soldiers to the front line. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and built and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Menin Gate Memorial was unveiled on 24 July 1927."

Man at Arms

What are you guarding, Man-at-Arms?

Why do you watch and wait?

'I guard the graves, said the Man-at-Arms

I guard the graves by Flanders farms

Where the dead wil rise at my call to arms,

And march to the Menin gate'.

'When do they march then,Man-at-Arms?

Cold is the hour-and late'

'They march tonight' said the Man-at-Arms'

With the moon on the Menin gate.

They march when the midnight bids them go.

With they're rifles slung and their pipes aglow,

Along the roads, the roads they know,

The roads to the Menin gate.

'What are they singing, Man-at-Arms,

As they march to the Menin gate?

'The Marching songs', said the Man-at-Arms,

That let them laugh at fate.

No more will  the night be cold for them,

For the last tattoo has rolled for them, And their souls will sing as old for them, As they march to the Menin gate.

At around 6.50am this morning ( 15 minutes ago ) I had just let Toby out for his morning toilet and stood at the back door and watched a large bird formation overhead our valley...what a wonderful sight and sound of small birds, and of course by the time I got to the bedroom to get my camera they had gone....

When one is daydreaming or distracted, they are said to be

" a million miles away "

If you are trying to explain to someone, but they are not interested...they might possibly say

" I dont give two hoots about it "

...taking another stab at this...I am giving you two for the price of one... :P

" Good things come to those who wait...."

...in other words, be patient...and...

" Patience is a virtue..."

...meaning to wait for something without getting impatient or getting upset...

....same here, I too am frightened of what the sea can do after a large wave came over myself and my then 13 year old daughter once when we took a paddle in the Atlantic sea, ( not the Caribbean sea ) that was the other side of the mountain where we had just walked from... ) In St Lucia 35 years ago, the beach was deserted apart from two men-boys in the very far corner, the sea was on the choppy side, I truly believed we would be gonners, as this very large wave came out of nowhere and covered us both, I thought it was going to sweep us out to sea...My daughter said I was as white as a ghost after the wave passed over us...

...son Kirks dog looks very astute, and looks like he is waiting to be given his orders....I love his standing position...he looks like a Cruft's dog show finalist-winner, that is the stand those judges put the dogs in when they are showing them at their best...

I love anything wild - life...I am lucky I live in a rather isolated spot of countryside and often will see fox,
deer, squirrel, hares, pheasant, passed an owl proudly sitting on a fence one night as we passed it in our car, could have opened the car window and reach out to touch it, it was that close to us, its head turned as we passed by...Had a garden visit from a stoat or weasel?....even told of badgers but, I have yet to see a badger...and not forgetting cows that roam over our valley hills, the sea the other side of those hills...we have the best of both worlds as they say, valleys, country - side and the sea - coast on top of our doorstep, I know which I prefer, the countryside with its wild - life...trees and birds..

Rammel...
...I marvel at the balancing act of your squirrel whilst eating his nut...

Chocky ( Beryl )...
...wonderful close - up of your squirrel eating a nut...
