A rainy day in Florida today........We could use it. We've had a long period of nice weather.

Chape gave me a "Grand-Pad" for Christmas. (I didn't even know I wanted one!  :) ) It's a lot like an I-Pad but fairly simple to use. The main reason he got it is for making video calls with the family. I talked to my daughter in New Hampshire tonight. Really a lot of fun. She can walk around the house with her phone to show me things, like the new half-bath they put in on the first floor. And I could watch the antics of her Bengal cats.

Lauri said the  dinner and breakfast she had on the plane were restaurant quality, complete with dessert and treats for later. This morning I woke up to a message from her and a picture of her having dinner in Bangkok. I am still amazed at what they do with technology!

Mary Ann - You've done more traveling than I have. My favorite place I've travelled is to Calgary, Alberta for the SeniorNet Bash. We went on a tour to Lake Louise and surroundings. Unforgettable! These days I'm happy just staying close to home.

I'm a few days late but I wish you all a Happy and Healthy 2019! I started the year off on the wrong foot by coming down with a nasty virus on New Years Eve (My hubby shared his with me!) Terrible cough followed by a bad head cold. I spent the last couple of days either in bed or the recliner. Today has shown a lot of improvement.

I join those who miss Guy Lombardo on New Years Eve. Do they even sing Auld Lang Syne anymore?

Jane - Nice to see you posting in here. Norm's Bait and Tackle goes back many years. Remember when the Soda Shoppe was "Bis' Nest" on SN and Joan went by Biscuit? We met at several of the bashes.

My daughter, Lauri, is on her way to Thailand. She flew last night to Qatar, a 13+ hour flight, has a 10 hour layover and tomorrow flies to Bangkok. We had a chat this afternoon on the Facebook Messenger. She said the airport in Qatar is beautiful and has a lady's lounge complete with recliners where she can rest. Her friend, who is on a sabbatical in Thailand, will meet her in Bangkok. After a few days there, they will continue on to Shanghai. It's a trip I can't imagine taking!

I don't have much of an appetite, but need to go find something to eat.

Mary Ann - Originally on SeniorNet there was the SN International Cafe led by Joan Grimes and Pat Scott. That's where so many of us learned to post in color, etc. using HTML. Norm was a regular in the "Cafe" as was Papa John. I won't go into all the details, but there was a lot of friction caused by some misunderstandings and remarks. As a result Norm left the "Cafe" and started a new discussion he called "Norm's Bait and Tackle". I followed, along with many others, but also stayed with the "Cafe". I'm not sure when he went from posting in the Michigan group to opening up Norm's Bait and Tackle.  I remember the "passports" (all in fun) that we had to apply for. He used to mention his friend, Dot, and we were all so happy when they got married! Eventually I met Norm and Dot and many of the other SeniorNetters, including Papa John. So many have passed on. I also remember when we started to see some posts from you, Mary Ann.  :)

Mary Ann - I just read your post and I'll try to give you some history of Norm's Bait and Tackle tomorrow.

My life has been a little topsy turvy lately and I've been neglecting S & F. I've been reading through the messages and have missed quite a lot! I do check into Facebook every day as that's where I have a lot of contact with friends and family back home. We did very few Christmas decorations this year but we did get our tree up and decorated.

We had a very quiet Christmas. Our granddaughter, Erin, her husband and son Brody will be here Friday for a late Christmas celebration.

Larry - I am so sorry to hear of Pat Halbach's recent medical problems. I last "spoke" to her before the surgery.

I found the lyrics to the song "Turn Around" for Emma and all the little ones in our families. Tugs at my heartstrings!

Turn Around

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby, my own
Turn around and you're two
Turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl
Going out of the door
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you're a young girl
Going out of the door
Where are you going my little one, little one
Little pigtails and petticoats
Where have you gone
Turn around and you're tiny
Turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young wife
With babes of your own
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you're a young wife
With babes of your own
Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby, my own

I mentioned this picture over in "Norm's place".  I took this many years ago in Oklahoma at dusk of a scissortail flycatcher. Never was able to get a good photo of one.

Sato - That peach colored rose is my favorite.

Jane - Emma is a darling! Love the pumpkin photos.  My youngest great-grand is going on three. They grow up so fast.  Do you remember a song called "Turn Around"? I forget who sang it.

Jack - Fantastic pictures. I'm just the "point and shoot" kind but my camera would do more if I bothered to learn how.  ::)

What a beautiful day it was here in Florida! Temps in the 70s and sunshine. I sat on the patio for 15 minutes just soaking up the sun. The air was great for breathing.

We went out for awhile tonight and at 65 it feels cold. The northerners always make fun of us being cold when it's in the 60s but when you're used to the 80s, it IS cold.  My daughter woke up to snow on the ground a few days ago. The ski area at Killington Mt., Vermont officially opened.

Callie - I love watching the birds. We have most of the ones you mentioned plus many cardinals, mocking birds and blue jays.  There's a female cardinal who loves taking a long bath in the birdbath.  :) When we lived in Oklahoma, there was a big Japanese magnolia tree outside my kitchen window and sometimes there would be nearly a dozen beautiful cardinals in the tree. Quite a sight! I also occasionally saw scissortail flycatchers and of course roadrunners.  Never was able to get a good picture of a scissortail but I did get a silhouette of one. Also have a picture of a hawk sitting on the edge of the birdbath!

Gloria - Cute story about parking in Battery Park during the war.  :)

Chape watched the Patriot's football game with two of his friends at Beef O'Brady's today.  They go over there when they can't get it on our TV channels. Patriots won!

I went to Home Depot today looking for outdoor lights. The ones we have are plastic and getting old. Found some I like that won't break the bank! Then I went to Publix for some

Joy - With all you've been through lately that lunch and family party must have been a nice change.

Mary Ann - Happy to hear Dot was able to go to church this morning.

I know I'm leaving a lot of people out but this is more than I'd planned to write. I enjoy each and every post.

Good night all.

Thanks for all the wonderful photos.

I'm glad to see Sato is posting his lovely flowers again.

Shirley - You have one photo on the river that looks like a piece of art! (edit:) Just went back to look and it's the one named Chalk Creek.

Jack - Mimi looks prettier than ever and has learned to pose so well! I can just see her saying "There's Dad with the camera again".  :) Good friends of ours lost their beautiful golden to Cushings disease at the age of 7.  Recently they decided to get another one, but this one is smaller and has shorter hair. She's a lovely dog.

Gloria - That photo of you with your husband is a treasure! You both look so happy.

Patricia - Your MedicAlert will give you a sense of security.  If you should fall or need help of any kind, "Scotty" will be there!  :)

At 8:00 this morning the temp outside was only 71. Cooler days are on the way! Of course it was in the high 90s this afternoon.  ::)

The only side effect from my flu shot is a slightly sore arm. Now to get the Shingles shot. I had the earlier one but this new one is much more effective.  I saw the dreadful effects our neighbor had from shingles and post-herpetic nerve pain. He suffered with it for 6 months.

Shirleyn - So sorry to hear that Joan broke her hip. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I wonder if she has a laptop she could use to communicate with us from the rehab.

I checked the Medicare site online and found that the Florida cards have been mailed so we should see ours soon.

Sandy - Nice that you can get you bus fare half off.  Seems like it's a little risky to carry and use the So. Sec. card that way, though.

Mary Ann - I'm sorry to hear Dot is having so much pain. I hope she can get some relief.

Beverly checking in! I'm sorry I'm so bad at posting but I do read nearly all of your messages.

Gloria - I'm glad to hear Johann and Windell are okay.  Now if we could hear from Joan!

We're still having very warm weather most days. I'm looking forward to temps in the 70s. I'm not complaining, though. I talked to my brother in Vermont last night and they expected a low of 20  by morning.

Chape is watching the first Brooklyn Nets basketball game of the season. It's his favorite team. I think he prefers basketball to football or baseball.

I had my senior flu shot this afternoon. Hoping I don't have many side effects.

This morning we had  the dryer vents cleaned. It was way overdue. We're also having some outside work done. Right now we have a huge stack of wood chip mulch bags in the driveway. Chape has finally agreed to hire someone to help. Maybe I'll take a picture to post after all the projects are done.

Earlier in October our daughter and her husband spent a few days with us. Donna had a work-related conference in Orlando so they took a few extra days for a mini vacation.

Just wondering.......How many of you have received your new Medicare card? They seemed to think I should have mine by now at the doctor's office today.

Have a good night, everyone!

Johann - So glad you posted in here to let us know how you are. I've been thinking about you while I watch the storm news on TV. Such wild water on the coast already!

Right now we are babysitting my sister-in-law's dog, Barney. My SIL (Chape's youngest sister) and her husband live near Tampa and were on their way home from a month in Vermont. She had been having problems on the way down (had symptoms of a mini-stroke, etc.) so she went to our local hospital. She's been there since noon yesterday and they've done all kinds of tests. So far they haven't found anything serious and we're waiting to hear from her after she sees the neurologist. Barney was a rescue dog and he's missing them so much! He's such a sweet dog.

So far I haven't had any problem with doctors or hospitals here or back in Vermont. Right now I have a wonderful primary care doctor.

The opioid epidemic is terrible. It's especially bad in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Larry - I hope the heavy rains and winds die down before they reach your area. Looks like the main problem will be flooding. As you know, my cousin lives in N. Augusta also. Think I'll call him tonight.

Mary Ann - Kendrick is a beautiful cat. I'm partial to yellow cats. :) I had a beautiful long-haired yellow and white tabby. He was such a love!

Angelface - The quarter in a cup of water would be a good idea when we travel north. That would tell me if our power went out while we were gone. Right now I depend on a neighbor who checks our house for us.

Joan - Hope Candy gets some action from her complaints.

Thank you all for the nice comments on the photo. Originally the bride and groom were part of an arbor type centerpiece and the bride had a flouncy skirt. All that's left is the bisque figurine.

Sandy - Funny you should mention my hair. It was a hot, humid and windy day and my hair just "did its own thing".  :) By the way, I think Brynn and your granddaughter Madison knew each other at one time.

Hello Everyone.

It's been quiet week-end at our house. Anyone who had plans for an outdoor celebration must be disappointed. We've had very heavy rain off and on all day with occasional thunderstorms.

Our next door neighbors are at their son's on the east coast. Friday was their wedding anniversary and their daughter from Seattle sent them a lovely floral arrangement and a small box of chocolates. They had already left when it arrived so it was delivered to our house. (With the permission of the neighbor). I've enjoyed them all week-end on my dining room table.    We sent them a photo via cell phone and told them Chape had been eyeing the chocolates.  ;) They should be home this evening.

Mary Ann - Sorry you haven't been feeling well. It will take awhile to get used to showering with the bench but that should be a big help. Glad you have Annie to help.

Our master bath has a good sized shower (no glass door) but we need to install some grab bars. The guest bath has a tub which I haven't used for ages.

Marilyne- We always seem to need a doctor on week-ends! Hope you can get in tomorrow.

Sue - That fall could have been a disaster. Good that you had neighbors to help. I've had a hard time keeping my husband off ladders but he's becoming more cautious. He's had a pacemaker for many years and had it changed once.

We have a very good Urgent Care center. If you have symptoms of a heart attack or other emergency, they call an ambulance and you are taken directly into the hospital, no waiting in the waiting room. I went there one evening with abdominal pain........they did blood tests, (white count was high), gave me barium swallow and sent me to the hospital for a CT scan. Turned out to be an intestinal infection. If I'd gone to the ER I would have waited for ages (as I've done before.  :( )

Joan - Waiting for news of Candy's tests along with the rest of us.

Larry - Firehouse Subs are Chape's favorite. He likes them much better than Subway's.  I remember that you have a pacemaker and have had it longer than Chape's. I'm wondering if you are also what the doctor calls "pacemaker dependent", meaning it runs 24/7? He could tell when the back-up battery kicked in, which surprised them.

Patricia - I'll check out the cams. My part of Florida has had a lot of rain this summer but nothing like yours.

Wow! I've been "wordy" tonight. Hope tomorrow brings a better day for everyone.

Good morning. Happy 1st day of September!

It's hot here, too, Larry......92 at the moment. We've been having late afternoon thunderstorms and heavy rain every day, but no rain yesterday and it's bright and sunny so far today.

I agree that knowing is better when it comes to health problems. If left to my own imagination I can conjure up the worst!

Have a good day everyone.
