Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Jackie, we are all getting to that point. If I go out it is for medical appointments, I haven't visited my daughter in years now because it requires too much effort and even with the wheelchair I fear falls. For Don it is the same, I wonder if he remembers when was the last time he was out in fresh air.
But we can dream... that is freely accessible, so come and join us!

My online library has it, so it is now bookmarked. The reviews are mixed on it.

Sue and I spent a lot of time and pennies at the penny candy counter when I was young. A bunch of us would head on down to the candy store (yes, just candy and ice cream), on the way scavenging returnable bottles to collect our return reward at the local small grocer, and then head just a two blocks further to the candy store. On the way back home, we would stop at the playground to eat the candy before we got home. Mom often was a bit upset when we weren't hungry for dinner. I don't think we ever told her why.

A Penny For Your Thoughts
I felt sad this past Wednesday, knowing that the very last penny was being produced at the Philadelphia Mint.
A penny is the first coin that many of us older folks remember . . . especially those born during the Depression, when every cent was saved and used.. I remember my mother giving me a penny to buy a single piece of candy at the store, or to press into the coin slot at one of those penny candy machines. Now pennies are considered obsolete and disposable. I still stop and pick up a penny, if I see one on the sidewalk or anywhere else, but there are those in the younger generations who actually toss them out, when they leave a store with a handful of loose change.
There were many pop songs written during the depression years that are about money - and some specifically about the penny. Here's an old favorite of mine, recorded in 1936.

Marilyne –
For me the first sections on the mythologies and religions moved slowly. I enjoy the humor he tosses in occasionally. I'm ready to start the section on books but it will have to wait a few days as I'm deeply into 1929. I have found 1929 very interesting and have a much clearer understanding of how the crash came about, the conflict between the government and the bankers, and how unaware that the government and bankers were of the impact their decisions were making on the rest of the country.
I'm looking forward to hearing your impression of Ken's book. I hope your copy has the bonus after life planner at the end.

Morning everyone. It is a, so far, sunny but windy day with a few clouds. The weather report insists that it is 53o but to decline throughout the day. I hope that does not mean the dreary clouds will be back. Yesterday was entirely cloudy, very dark and dreary.
The last few days have been rather nondescript and quiet. On the agenda for today are a few chores and more reading. Nothing major going on this coming week except for car inspection with a chance to check out the new cars. Sue found a new, near to me, Japanese restaurant she is chomping at the bit to try out. We have yet to set a date for a visit.
