Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Proposed board reorganization

I noticed that some boards aren't used much these days and am thinking of rearranging/reorganizing things to clean up the clutter some. Let me know what you think.

"Talk About Photography" and "Computer Art" - no posts in either board since this forum was restarted in 2018. Delete these since nobody is using them anyway

Rearrange other boards based on popularity - currently they're in alphabetical order in each category but some are more popular than others. "Computer Store" hasn't seen any new posts since 2021 but "Village Clubhouse" sees new posts almost daily.

I believe "Computer Store" was used as new versions came out. Also, I don't think we have any computer "heavies" any more.

I had some suggestions a while back but they went over like lead balloons. So will MMOB.

Some of the boards have posts of people no longer with us, those should be saved. The posts in Tranquil Cove need to be saved in entirety.  Photos, especially those in Photos, Graphics and More and Members personal photo galleries need to be saved rather current or not.

Card Shop PSP graphics are property and should be saved or moved into zips for the owners.

If a board hasn't been used in a while, but has posts of those no longer with us, these need to be saved.

Removing posts unilaterally is disrespectful to our collective memories.

Michael, i totally agree with Patricia, especially the " Removing posts unilaterally is " disrespectful " to our collective memories "
Memories, postings and their avatar photos are all we have left of our past members..

Michael,  I think it's a great idea.
It's time to eliminate boards and sub boards  that have gone a long time without any posts.  I would suggest that any of our folders that have not been posted in for a year, be deleted.   Sounds harsh, but the board is too cluttered and only a few are used on a regular basis.   We can remember and honor all of our former members by looking back into Tranquil Cove, which should never be touched, and is the place where all of our old friends have been honored.

I suggest eliminating: General Discussion,  Computer Art,  Talk about Photography,  Wildlife,  Computer Store, Bank on the Square, and Animal Shelter.  Animal Shelter was busy early on, but now the only members with pets, post on SS, which is where they talk about their pets.

I'm not sure where the idea of removing posts came from, but that was never part of the plan. The only two boards I was planning to remove are the two with no posts in them. The others would simply be rearranged in their categories so the more active ones are closer to the top. It doesn't make sense to remove boards with existing posts simply because nobody posts there anymore. At the very least I'd move topics to other boards before doing that. I just want to make it easier for people to find the more active posts.

Very few recent deaths have been recorded in Tranquil Cove, Marilyne. I don't agree with a wholesale removal, which would drive more from posting. There are people who want the memories. Those who knew and interacted with those gone now.

I would support the plan, Michael, if the only boards removed were empty of posts and others remaining could be shuffled in order of the recent number of postings, if none of the boards with previous postings were removed.

We few are at the age where not many of us are left of our original posters, i can see that this forum will soon come to its end anyway, as i cant see this forum receiving any new members for keeping it going, or livening up our empty boards,  we longstanding and loyal posters are just hanging onto Seniors and Friends now and often the subject comes up of our memories...I personally feel just leave it be as it is, but i guess " what will be will be " and, will be done "

Anyway Patricia has put the callout for other members views...

Yes. That seems very practical. We could also archive the beginning of  some very long discussions, such as being done in Soda Shoppe. Maybe do that for each separate year.

Michael,  it looks like I totally misundertood you!     When you said,   "I noticed that some boards aren't used much these days and am thinking of rearranging/reorganizing things to clean up the clutter some.".    I thought you meant eliminating boards that hadn't been posted in for many years.   I see that that was not your intent.   Whatever you want to do  is OK with me!

CallieOK

I have noticed that the Game forum has the most posts (using the list at the bottom of the Unread Posts page) and there's the same posters in most of those.

I rarely post any more because the "Conversational" forums no longer have real "conversations" between posters and just have the same old same old information.  I don't have any pets, rarely cook ahead and refuse to put personal information on a web site that can be read by just anyone in the world, whether or not they register.

And that's my opinion.    I will be like Rammell - and MMOB

I'll look into rearranging stuff more next weekend. The next week is going to be a bit busy for me - going to a concert 90 minutes away tomorrow night then going out of town for several days on Monday (we can only roll over so much vacation time at work and we can't take any time off between mid-November and the end of the year because that's our busy season, so I've been taking a trip every fall for the past several years so I don't lose as much vacation time...)

I've moved a few boards around and deleted the two that weren't used. Hopefully that won't confuse anyone :)
