Rick, I think Hitler's other quotes make points too.  Scary.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Language is a city to the building of which every human being brought a stone. -Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer and philosopher (1803-1882)

Beverly

I'm looking forward to seeing more posts in this discussion. I haven't been posting (or reading) many of the folders for awhile for various reasons, and I miss them.

Callie - Your gripe about using the word loose in place of lose caught my attention! That's one of my biggest gripes and seems to be used more and more frequently.

Newspapers no longer have proofreaders and the spelling on social media is horrendous! It appears that schools don't stress grammar or sentence structure anymore.

Another thing that concerns me is the trend toward not teaching cursive handwriting in schools. Fortunately, my great-grands attend a school where it's still taught and my 11 yr. old great-granddaughter shows promise of being good at it.

I am so sorry to hear of Hal Kelley's passing. I will miss him!

I also don't post as much as I did. Also for various reasons, like additional responsibilities around here.

Living here in the NY Metro area I am very accustomed to fractured English. In addition English and History were stumbling blocks for me way back in those great school years. BUT --- I try  ???

My latest gripe is the poor control of the volume of TV stations. While comfortably listening to TV at a nice level a commercial pops in at a level that would wake the dead. Do I listen? No, I mute it.  At the risk of sounding like a sexist I also don't care for the new voice quality of many of the younger females I hear on TV. I think something has altered or damaged their voices.

I agree with Beverly.  MORE posts here

I haven't posted in the Gripe folder because I don't have any gripes, or I should say I posted them elsewhere because others started the posts.  I do try to post daily in two or three folders, just not all of them.

Here's a quick gripe. I spent the last three hours deleting one program and then digging through boxes and baskets to find another similar program and then through more paperwork for the new, used program's serial number.

All of this came about because of Big Brother Microsoft. I store the majority of my programs, documents, graphics on an external drive so the applications I use, look for the info on that external drive. BB Microsoft continues to re-add and re-direct with empty file folders back on to C Drive even though nothing's stored there. So I waste valuable time deleting their folders and then re-directing the program back to where it needs to look.

They also, within a program that is not a Microsoft owned program, add empty folders redirecting the information to One Drive even though One Drive has been deleted from my computer for over a year! Not to mention periodically turning my touchpad back on when I have it turned off! Now I realize that this is tied into their "Updates," but it has already made one program unusable and has me very frustrated!

What Windows version are you dealing with?

I would think a well designed program might "suggest" a location for it's empty folders but give you the option to select your own location.

Windows ten. Microsoft tells me that I must be somehow doing all this as it couldn't be them....

Rammel, they are adding their one drive folders to a program more than once, that is not made by Microsoft and redirecting the information I had pointing to programs within the external drive to C:/One Drive even though One Drive has not been on my computer for over a year!! This and re-engaging my touchpad happens with each of their updates.

This is not a one time, but several repeated instances
where Microsoft attempts to override the program's instructions in their favor.

"then digging through boxes and baskets to find "

Do we all have that problem ?  I think so.  When we print out that important stuff we know we will remember where it is. But then -------------- :tickedoff:   :idiot2:   ---- never to be found again.

I'm not using W-10 yet, but - might there be a way to opt out of MS's "One Drive"?  Just deleting there one drive file(s) on your puter may not do that.

I Googled how to delete One Drive from my computer and it hasn't been on my computer for close to two years. I tried that with Cortana, but since Microsoft made it an integral part of 10, you can only turn it off, not delete it. Here is an example.

I use Corel's PSP program to do graphics. Corel is not owned by Microsoft, it only works with Microsoft as do numerous other software programs. After each Microsoft Update, folders show up in Corel for each of that program's functions, redirecting them to C:/One Drive.

Except there is no One Drive on C or elsewhere and the functions should have folders directing them to E:/ Corel. I have to go in repeatedly and manually change them back to E:/ Drive.

Actually, the only reason any of the programs are on C Drive is that they will not completely run on an external drive, only their functions will.

https://techjourney.net/disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-completely-in-windows-10/     Seems to have a couple/few ways to deal with One Drive.  If MS keeps re-enabling it with updates, then I don't know what to say, except disable it after each update.

If it's just dropping extra folders on your puter I wouldn't be concerned. They don't take up much space.

Reminds me of the days of IE and Netscape, or the JAVA war.

Rick, I'm not communicating very well in my frustration. First, I went in and disabled and removed One Drive from my computer back in the summer of 2016. The program is not on my computer.

Second, after an update, Microsoft doesn't just install empty folders in programs not owned or serviced by Microsoft.

They add empty folders and actually redirect all files to a nonexistent area on another drive. They redirect to C:/ One Drive which doesn't exist. This means that program stops working as I have directed it to go to E Drive to function.

The program, One Drive isn't being enabled as it isn't on my computer. Only Big Brother Microsoft's redirecting is causing my programs to stop functioning.

RAMMEL

Is it possible that the PSP version for W-10 is deciding to use One Drive, possibly because it uses lots of space.

Suggestion - go to a PSP discussion area and see if others have a similar problem and what the fix is.

I never cared for "Cloud" cxxx.  What happens if you lose your net connection? No computer use?  There has also been some Cloud intrusions.

I use a physical 4T external drive.

so_P_bubble

Angel, I also use Window 10.  I have installed an additional 4T hard disk in my computer where I keep all the PSP material.  It is my D-disk. I have a My Document file there with all the subfolders and that is what I use when  doing my graphics.
Microsoft maybe installs empty folders elsewhere - I never checked_ but it does not interfere on my directing things to "D".  I also back up the lot on an external.

angelface555

Bubble, I have since fixed that issue by emailing Microsoft and also online chats with Microsoft Assistant. Now an update does not automatically try to redirect.

However, I now have the same as you. I have partitioned an area on my computer for photos and PSP as well as having an external 4T drive that is only attached to the computer when I am downloading or uploading. So there are those two as well as another 4T external drive which is a mirror of everything on my desktop and my laptop.

Since a previous 2006 wipeout virus, I've become somewhat fanatical...

Hi Sandy! The snow is gone except a few small piles in some shadowed corners, but everything is stark, grays and browns until the expected two weeks of rain that brings the new greens and leaves. "Normally,"(Is there such a thing anymore?); this has already occurred in early April. But not this year!

My gripe is people who do not speak English well are allowed to answer phones.  I could go into detail, but I am sure you have all been subjected to them.

Lindancer

Joan, I agree with you, and I have it compounded, because I am deaf, and after I ask them to repeat,  a couple have even hung up on me when I said I cannot  understand. I do have also to say I have had a few very nice people on the phone.

A real gripe ---
For the last three days I have been getting calls from  - Apple. Telling me that my iCard has been compromised and I should call/contact/ whatever.
The first day they called 7 times. Each time with a different calling number (different area codes also). Only 2 calls today.
I don't even have an iCard.   Anyone else getting these calls?
