Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Shucks, I was typing away and the next thing I know I hit something and poof my post was gone!   Darn I sure do not like when that happens!

It has been a full but fun day for me.  My life friend is in Colorado visiting from Rock Springs Wyoming.  We met for breakfast at Village Inn and spent a good long time taking our heads off.  Back to our house for more chatting.  Then we went out for a bit of shopping.  Back to the house for more chatting.  Out to dinner and then the good bye time came.  Bob and I are in our recliners just taking the rest of the evening resting.

Yesterday day was eventful as well.  Son Mark and fiancée Megan came for breakfast before we took them to the airport for their flight back to Phoenix.  We decided to stop at the zoo to see the giraffe that was born here a few months back.  We hardly got any in the place when Dr. Dave called to see where we were.  His a Wife Michele was stranded down at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where the grands are attending tennis and cheer camp.

Michele's car has run flat tires on it and she had a warning light come on saying their was a problem.  The tire was very flat, and non driveable.  A flatbed was called to come pick her car up but it could not accommodate all 4 of them, so they needed some one to pick them up.  Our car only will carry 5 people, so we had to go to the hospital and trade cars with Dave before heading off to get them.  Dave tried to get a rental car delivered to her, but they are not allowed on the Academy grounds, and they would have had to walk a couple miles to the gate!  Everything turned out OK, and we were more than happy to help out!  Family comes first!

Sorry we have not had a word fro Our Joan.  Continued thoughts and prayers for her.

SANDY, happy to read the cast is off and you are now able to see your arm.  Good luck with the exercises you need to do to strengthen the arm.

We had some exciting news from the son in Boston.  A huge turtle has laid eggs in their flower garden and the boys will have the hatching to look forward to in 80 to 90 days!  They are all excited.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND!

Oh no, JEANNE LEE, I certainly do feel very sorry for you.  Now that is enough to make anyone ill!

Today when we were shopping at a Khol's Store, I found a pair of shoes I really liked.  Of course they did not have my size, but the clerk told me I could order it through the kiosk and they would mail me the shoes for free.  Three times we put in all the information requested, only to have it dump us out!  I was fit to be tied.  My dear hubby was out in the car waiting for my friend and I to finish, so at this point I thanked the associate for her time and told her to just forget it.  It was most frustrating for her and for me!  I have tried their kiosk machines before and never have been able to get them to work!  I guess I just did not need those shoes❣️

I've been up for a while but I was waiting for someone else to come by.  I didn't want to have to say that "I'd met myself getting up."

I'm just waiting for the tree guys to get here this morning.  I think he said they'd be here around 8.  Time to go feed the doggies now.  I wishh you all a happy day!

Terrible breaking news from both sides of the world this morning.

A tragic high rise apartment fire in London, England, with fatalities.  Started at 1:00 a.m. London time.

A shooting of congressmen and aides in Alexandria, Virginia. At 9:00 a.m. EDT they still don't know who the gunman was or why.

Good morning everyone, a bit cooler today 80° instead of mid 90's. Less humid, too.

JUNE I don't know the elevation but she has started learning how to adjust ingredients when she bakes anything now. She has some beautiful views from her new home.

CAROL  I started canning in August as soon as blueberrie were ripe, then into the fall with whatever was ripe and ready.

LLOYD  are you able to get that wire from your mower? Hope so. I went to a birthday party here yesterday, one lady just turned 100. I think every person in the building was there.

AMY  just cannot stay away from doctors and hospitals.  I hope and pray every thing is better today.

Time to get moving before my CNA gets here.

Hi everyone. It is another nice morning and we expect it to the partly cloudy all day and get to about 92 degrees.  Yesterday was an interesting day as before noon my neighbor stopped in and we visited for over an hour.  Then in late afternoon a good friend from where I used to live and who I saw often was on his was to North Carolina and called from the South Carolina welcome center on I-20 saying he was near by and could he stop by.  He was here in a few minutes and we spent an enjoyable couple of hours visiting.  Then I got a text saying a couple of shirts I had ordered from Costco had been delivered.  I checked and no shirts so I looked at the order and our old address ended up on the order.  I have no idea how that happened but it did.  So today I am going to contact my former next door neighbor and ask for his help as he knows the young man who bought our house and hopefully can pick up the package and mail it to me.  So it was not a normal day.

Today we are going to celebrate Father's Day early as Scott has to work on Father's Day.  We will meet at a restaurant and then come to the house to later enjoy cake that our granddaughter is making for the occasion.  Pat has a meeting this morning at the Church with your Gifts group that make things for charity and for the bazaar held in the fall.  So it is going to be a full day.

Sandy, glad you will be able to do the rehab on your arm that is needed without having to go for rehab sessions with a therapist.

Gloria, I am under the impression that American History doesn't spend much time on the years ago history and a lot of it is being rewritten to fit more political correct views.  I have seen some of the interviews on the street where young people are asked about a famous (to us) early President or an event in American history and they don't have a clue.  Sometimes they don't have any touch with what is going on today.  I may be offbase on what is being taught as don't have anyone currently in school that I can ask about these things.

June, I can't recall ever going to the ER that I was left on a gurney in the hallway although have seen some patients in that situation.  I wanted to get out of the ER as quickly as possible, especially the waiting room, as there were sick people there and I sure didn't want to catch anything.  I have been fortunate so far and that hasn't happened.

Lloyd, I take it the electric fence was not hooked up as you didn't mention getting shocked.  I hope you can enjoy a cooler day today.

Amy, it sounds like you both had a tough night and sure hope your husband's problem wasn't two serious.

Jenny, what a nice day to have with your friend.  It sounds like I wasn't the only one who did a lot of visiting yesterday.  That was quite a rescue mission you had and glad to see it all worked out OK.  The Kohl's kiosk saved you money.  :)

JaneS, we only have four more episodes of Home Fires available on Amazon Prime and will have to wait until Season 2 is released to Prime.  However, we are really enjoying it.  I really do dislike the character who is so cruel and unkind and abusive to his wife.  I just don't understand that type of behavior.

Mary Ann

While I think it would be nice if schools could teach EVERYTHING! I've mentioned this before - I've been out of high school for 76 years (1941) and a lot of history has happened in those years, WW II for instance.  There are only 24 hours in a day and that has not increased since I graduated.  I feel there are not enough hours to teach everything that has happened in the world since the beginning of time.  I don't know what could be eliminated from any era of history, but there just isn't enough time.  I have no idea what is being taught now because even my great-nephews and -nieces are out of school.

Some of you probably have seen Jeopardy programs where an answer is given about a person in the 1940s and the contestants don't know the question to ask; they're too young!

Happy Father's Day, Larry.

Mary Ann

Jeanne Lee

I really enjoyed Home Fires.  I can recall very well those years and how things were in the US - at least in the northeast.  My mother knitted socks and gloves for the servicemen while I knitted plain scarves, or squares to be assembled by someone else into afghans.

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts collected grease fats, glass, tin cans & balls of tinfoil, and paper.  In the summer we transported them to the collection centers in wagons and in winter on sleds.  There were air raid drills - everyone had blackout drapes and not a single bit of light was allowed to show.  No cigarettes on the street during a blackout and of course no flashlights.  Street lights had been extinguished "for the duration".  Wardens patrolled specific areas to be sure everyone was following orders.  My father was Block Warden, supervising several standard wardens.

Our litle town had an airfield and a tower with 24 hour "spotters" and a searchlight that combed the skies all night for unidentified aircraft (of course in those days any airplane was something for everyone to run outside to watch)

We had a Civil Defense first aid station, too, of which my mother was co-chair together with the only doctor left in town.

Lowell Thomas kept us informed every night at 6:00 on the radio about what was happening overseas.

Jeanne Lee, I don't remember any of those things going on where I lived during WWII but you were nearer the coast line than we were (Michigan).  We did hear about blackout curtains, but we didn't have any.   My mother, dad and I all knit on sweaters for the servicemen.  My mother and I knit the same but you could tell where Dad purled.  We all knit the Continental method, but Dad purled that way too.

touching Base again . thanks yes very sad news. Peter told me about the fire in England I just did not have motivation to post it sorry. no the wire was cattle  electric fence and no longer in use. I did get it out with no problem's. ad when they catch the shooter would be alright if he resist and dose not hit any law  and the return the fire with accuracy, and save tax payers lot of tax money.
I is at present time 74 º and mostly cloudy , we had a few drops of rain but not enough to settle the dust, but is cooler with not so hard wend. sun is popping out as I type. I am going to shop and work for a while. Nancy just told me they ought the man that done the shooting no particulars yet.

My favorite memory about blackouts is one that involves my mother and my father.  One of them would always come into our room if the siren sounded after we went to bed and make sure the blackout curtains were closed.  One night it was my dad and he closed one of the curtains and then sat down at the othe window where he could see all the way to the mountain at the edge of town.  My mother came in the room and wanted to know why that curtain wasn't closed.  My sister and I told her daddy was looking out.  She didn't believe us and walked over to the dark blob that immediately hollered, "OUCH!"  Why'd you do that?"  My mother stuck him with a pin.  We all started to laugh and he joined in.

My grandfather was a block warden and I just thought it was a lot of different and special stuff that didn't usually happen.  At 6 I didn't have much of a concept of what a war was.  We bought stamps, saved tinfoil and paper and wore our shoues out and used up all my grandparents ration coupons for shoes.  I do remember the saying that came from the war years....Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.  I kind of live that way now.  It stuck!

Mike is out there trimming my trees!  And also trimming my income!

We certainly were a united front during the second world war. My mom saved grease and knitted scarves also. It was the most unhappiest times of my whole life. No need to relive it.

I can't seem to fully come awake this morning, and I did have a full nights sleep. My Gary will be doing Bible study today so hope I "come to" by ten o'clock. I'll try another cup of coffee.

Hal, how did the swimming go ? I hope it was successful.

Good Morning,

Housekeeper is here - getting started on the detailed clean-up from the tile work.  Although I have her each time she comes, I hire her through a Cleaning Service and she's scheduled for another house this afternoon.  She's already said she can't possibly finish everything that she sees needs done here - so will come back on Friday "on her own" to finish up.  Of course, I will pay her directly for that.

I am so blessed to have people work for me who notice things I don't - and take care of them.  Tile guy, who had done several other small jobs for me in the past,  did a couple of these, too.

The entire family had group pictures made last evening.  I suspect the photographer may never have experienced a group of related adults acting so silly with each other.   ;)   Pictures turned out well - and family purchased some of the funnier poses.       Afterwards, we all went to dinner at Red Lobster.
I hadn't had salmon in ever so long - and enjoyed every bite of my order.

I'm basically "helping" today by Staying Out Of The Way - but am doing some laundry and other small chores.

I was in First-Fourth grades during WWII and only remember a few "lighter" events at school.

I  have some ration cards that belonged to my Aunt.  However, we had our own dairy products, beef and garden so I wasn't affected directly by rationing.

My mother could sew on a button but, otherwise, did no kind of needlework.  I think she did some Red Cross Work during the hours I was at school.

She did win a prize from the newspaper for submitting a recipe for Molasses Sponge Jelly Roll that didn't use sugar.  I still make it - when I can find "real" sorghum molasses - not the kind that comes in a bottle.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Carol

Amy:  Thinking of you and your husband.  Prayers for all.

Of the two bird nests, all the little ones have flown.  The parents are real task makers and so vigilant.  Every year we have a nest by the front door and also the robin returns to a place under the outdoor stairs.

Jenny:  You deserve to sit in the relaxing chair - both of you.

Good afternoon, not feeling that great, woke up the AM with a bad sore throat can not even swallow my pills. Also coughing,  I am diagnoses my self with Upper respiratory infection. My neighbor had itlast week.

Gloria I use to can fresh peaches, also made a lot of jelly. Favorite was Beach plum.

Jane, I just hate to put the TV on anymore, the news is always ,something awful, even the local news.

Amy as I said yesterday, prays are going your way.

I wish someone in Joans family, would let us know what is going on.

Jenny, during the warm, I volunteered as and airplane spotter.

Jenny, now I have to tell you my story about turtles laying eggs. Years ago we lived on a very large pond, and the snapping turtles would come up on the lawn and lay eggs.  They are very huge.  Dennis, about 9, watched one come up, timed about when they would hatch.  He did not tell us, but tooksome to school and sold them for 35cents. each. When I found out, I had to call the school and say, he was selling giant snapping turtles.  Another story about those turtles, I had Mark laying out on a blanket on the front lawn, while I was doing some planting. I was about 8ft. aways, when I saw this giant turtle walking on all 4 headed for Mark.I screamed, a police office was just going by in the patrol car. He jumped out and shot it. Now you know why my hair went gray so early.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Been a busy day so far.  Had PT this morning and directly from there to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned, she found one cavity on a back tooth and I talk to her about capping the front tooth that they want me to baby, she took xrays to send to insurance for pre=approval and we are going to do it.  Finally got hom about 1:30 and ate a bite of lunch and now think I will just kick back in my recliner.

Lots going on with the fire in London, Congressman being shot and UPS shootup in California.

Oh, well.  My shoulder are so tired so I am off here and to my recliner.

Denver

Just checking in for the evening.

I went back to my eye doctor again this morning for a 2nd recheck.  He was extremely through and did make a bit of a change in my prescription.  Then back to Costco for my third reorder of my glasses...oh how I hope and pray these lens will be correct and I will be able to see!

I am feeling very sad about all the goings on in the world....the terrible fire in London, the shootings on both coast lines....it is just sad that our world is in such a terrible state.  I pray for all involved.

JEANNE LEE, I bet you are right, those shoes were probably going to pinch like everything!

Than you, CAROL, for your vote of support for Bob and I to take it easy in our recliners!

GLORIA de, you gave me a good chuckle about your snapping turtle stories! I will have to share them with my son.  The police officer would never be able to shoot the turtle these days....someone would have a lot to say about it now days!  Great stories!  Sorry you are not feeling well....hope it improves very soon.

LARRY, I hope you all enjoy your early celebrations of Father's Day tonight.  Yes, the Khol's keoisk certanly did save me money....that is exactly the same think my Bob said....only he used the phrase that it save HIM money!

JANE, hope the tree trimming got finished and the next step can be done to rid you of the pesky squirrel.
CALLIE, family picture time sounded like a fun time for all....
Glad you enjoyed your salmon at Red Lobster.

I am defiantly a BABY BOOMER, so luckily no first hand memories for me, but I remember hearing a lot of stories about what life was like.  I have a few things in j mom's cedar chest of war items....ration cards and the like.

Thoughts and prayers for OUR JOAN.

Have a good evening EVERYFRIEND.

The trees are all trimmed, the squirrel nests are gone from those two trees and the guy who trimmed the trees said if they want to get on the roof from what's left of the trees, they'll need parachutes.

I'm home from work and I'm beat!  So I'm going to go to bed very soon.  Good night Everyfriend!  I'll be here in the morning (I hope) to share a cup of coffee with my friends.  Sleep peacefully in God's arms and wake to a bright new day!

Had a good day, but feel worn out this evening so it will be off to and early book and bed. I wish we knew who we could ask about our Bis. I would think some one in charge of us would have some knowledge, but with her moving away, everything would be changed.

So we will continue to pray. Have a good night dear hearts. I love you. June

Good morning everyone..

Robins are singing for rain and I sure hope we get it. We either get too much or don't have enough....feast or famine here. Last night I watered some plants in the garden and wondered why a row of beans didn't come up ,so back into the house for a package of beans tore the top off and wondered which ones didn't come up.green or yellow.....looked on the marker and found out those beans would NEVER come up as it was carrots!!! :2funny: I do have two rows of beans the did come up so the dogs will be happy!

Not sure what is happening today, taking the day as it comes here.

Thank you for your prayers and good wishes ,we will get through this one day at a time..

Good Morning Everyfriend and HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEANNELEE.  Was it yesterday!  I'm sorry we all missed it but we'll just have to celebrate it today.  I always say that stretching our birthday out over several days makes them more bearable at this age.  Hope your day was happy and hope all those to come are also happy!

I'm just waiting for time to feed the doggies and then I'm going to hurry up to Country Cupboard for some fresh sticky buns.  A very special friend is passing through here today and we're going to meet at my WalMart for a quick visit.  I'm passing on some sticky buns for the road.

I hope you all have a day as special as mine is going to be!
