Bob had finally made it to the last round of the $50,000 Question.  The night before the big question, he told the host MC that he desired a question on American History.

The big night arrived.  Bob made his way onstage in front of the studio and TV audience.  He had become the talk of the week.  He was the best guest this show had ever seen.

The MC stepped up to the mike.

"Bob, you have chosen American History as your final question.  You know that if you correctly answer this question, you will walk away $50,000 dollars richer.  Are you ready?"

Bob nodded with a cocky confidence -- the crowd went nuts. He hadn't missed a question all week.

"Bob, yours is a two-part question. As you know, you may answer either part first.  As a rule, the second half of the question is always easier. Which part would you like to take a stab at first?"

Bob was becoming more noticeably nervous. He couldn't believe it, but he was not sure, but American History was his easiest subject, and he played it safe.
"I'll try the easier part first."

The MC nodded approvingly. "Here we go Bob. I will ask you the second half first, then the first half."

The audience grew silent with gross anticipation...

"Bob, here is your question: And in what year did it happen?"

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another hot day in the lower 90's on this Memorial Dy.  The schedule is light today.  Pat needs to get some blood tests done so will take her.  Scott and Jennifer plan on coming out sometime this afternoon as Scott has taken the day off.  This would have been his deceased wife's birthday and it was a tradition for him to take that day off of work each year and he has wanted to continue it.  Jennifer has fixed a cake for the occasion.

The man who won the PGA Tourney yesterday was born and  lives in our county.  This is the second tournament he has won this year.  I enjoyed watching the last three hours of the event.  After Church yesterday we stopped and got our lunch and brought it home to eat as it was very hot and neither one of us felt like eating out.  I got a Firehouse Sub and then went through the drive thru at Zaxby's (a chain here in the South) for a nice salad with chicken strips on it.

Gloria, sure hope yesterday was and today will be a better day for you than Saturday apparently was.  I rest right after lunch and Pat usually naps later in the afternoon.  We don't like afternoon appointment either.  I don't envy you having to have 4 teeth pulled. How nice that you had a good chat with that nephew.

June, we have had Gideon speakers at a couple of the churches we have attended over the years.  The other day at one of the doctor's offices I was surprised to find two Gideon Bibles on display along with some magazines.  Of course, this is considered the Bible belt.

Amy, thanks for the explanation of vegetable marrow as have never heard of it.

JaneS, I do hope you can eliminate that pesky squirrel as they can do so much damage.  Hope you have a wonderful time with your granddaughter and family today.

Lloyd, I sure wouldn't want to find snakes in my attic as I don't like any snakes, even the harmless ones.  We apparently have a lot of snakes around here (not on my property that I know of) but they around bodies of water and in the weeds.

Jeanne, that graphic could be me.  We have a rocking chair that is never used but it isn't the same design as the graphic.  Thanks for getting us started on a new week.  That was a nice funny.  At first I thought you were talking about a current TV quiz show that I had never seen but wondered at the prize which seemed small by today's standards.  Then I saw the punchline and realized it was just a funny.

CallieOK

Happy Memorial Day.

Just marking my place right now.   Not feeling too well so am "hibernating" this weekend.

One quick question:

Gloria,  where in Oklahoma does your nephew live?

Good Morning Everyone!

Well our "storm" came through last night about 9 PM and wouldn't you know not a drop of rain here at my house, lots of wind, lightening and thunder but no rain. But sometime after I went to bed we got about 1/2 an inch.  But it is nice and cool out this morning and cloudy.  So those that are doing their thing outside should have a cool day for it.  We did ours yesterday so today is a non celebration day for us.

Hope everyone has a great day.

June Drabek

Jeanne, thank you for the truly great Memorial Day picture. I could almost feel this old fellows thoughts and memories.

Jane, poor Bob is right. A very unfair question…..Bob was trapped, for sure.

Larry, I am sure there have been a lot of Souls saved through these gifts of the Gideon's Bibles. Our speaker was asked what it cost per Bible that they leave in Hotel rooms. He said, five dollars. That seems a very low price for all that is given.

Callie, I had my "hibernating" day yesterday. Just couldn't seem to pull myself out of it, so we have to give in some times. I know your tomorrow will be better. Hugs and God be with you.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

So far my day has not gone as planned, but it rarely does.  I slept with the sliding door open and Tiger wanted in & out until I gave up and took her to the other end of the house where she could sleep upstairs or down and I couldn't hear her.  Normally I go right back to sleep but have been considering having Tom (cat) put to sleep.  He hates traveling so bad & know this last trip he was sick because of his head, not motion!  I didn't even get the few blocks down the street before he threw up all over the plastic shower curtain I put on the floor.... so I brought him back home & left Tiger with him since I was only going to be gone 2 nights.  I put the self feeder out on the door step where they usually come when wanting to come inside.  They survived but I worried about them.

Going to be gone too long to CO and twice as far as where I go in MO, just not a pleasant drive for him.  He is fine when I get parked but I spend the first night in Walmart parking lot to adjust to altitude so he will get sick again next morning when I go into the mountains.  That is why I couldn't go back to sleep.  He is such a loving cat and minds pretty well around the house, but nobody else can get near him to feed and I don't want him to go hungry.

By the time I got myself in gear this morning, fed cats & me.... the power went off.  Stayed off over 2 hours so couldn't do laundry, had to go turn propane on in RV to keep food frozen & cold  & with that thought, need to go turn it back to electricity.  Got most of the clocks reset, 2 more in the kitchen & think I'm done.  I couldn't open garage doors without power so no trip to gas up the car.  I want to fill the RV gas tank & also empty the water tank & put in fresh, but not today.  Son picked up his camper to do what needed done to it & will bring it back until he is ready to leave.  He still likes to drive at night but won't have his dog to keep him company so that is a concern for me, besides we go to bear country & they will be just coming out of hibernation & hungry.... no dog smells to keep them away from his camper.   :stars:

Lloyd, you are handy with that 22..... I'd probably have missed the snakes & shot holes through the siding & let the mud dabbers in.

Better to do catch up stuff, lunch time & nothing to show for my day.  I took flowers to my parents a few weeks ago & 2 different vases of flowers to Cas.  Have to pick up the vases mid week or they throw them away.  They don't allow artificial flowers in the mausoleum, have benches to place flowers on.  My parents are buried in a cemetery that only allows flowers in the vases built in the head stones that are flat on the ground.  Not like the old days when we visited the cemeteries & took peonies, cleaned around the stones of all family members and then had a picnic in the town park.  Really was "Decoration Day" and the start of summer.

Remember all those gone before that we loved, and I am thankful for all of you in here for sharing this day.  Shirley

JaneS

I have a very long flourescent bulb in the indirect lighting in my kitchen burned out.  I managed to get it out and write down all the information on it and went to the store and got a replacement.  Using two climbing pieces, I got up close enough to replace the bulb, got back down and turned it on and....NOTHING!  So I got back up, took the bulb out and then put it back in and tried it again...STILL NOTHING.  I'm thinking there might be a starter in it but I'm also thinking that the electrician who installed the two new ones a couple years ago, said these new once don't have starters like the old ones.  I guess I'll have to get up there and check that out....again!  One half of my kitchen is DARK and that's bad because some of my eyesight is foggy at times.  I need as much light as I can get.

Oh well...back to the trial and error.  If anyone has any ideas, I'm open for suggestions.  I won't ask family members or neighbors for help on holidays.  I did call my son and I told him in no uncertain terms that he was NOT to come over...just make suggestions and if if it's not working by Thursday afternoon, he can pick up Kiran and figure it out for me then.

I have all these tall people in my family who could do this standing on the floor but I'm stubborn about Holidays.

Back to the drawing board...

JaneS

Well, I figured it out on my own.  I had two defective light bulbs.  When I took the first one out and looked closely at both ends, I discovered that one pin was shorter and wigglier than the other one.  I decided that I might have done that to it so I decided to try the other one and if it worked, cut my losses.  But before I even got the other one out of the plastic wrap, I noticed that it, too, had a shorter, wigglier pin in one end.  So I put them both into the package, returned them and got my money back.  Tomorrow, I'll take my info to my guys at the local hardwar store and get EXACTLY what I need with very clear instructions.  They're good guys!

Pretty quiet in here today. Guess everyone is busy with family and friends on this Holiday. Nothing at all happening here at Rowntree, except a special lunch..cream of broccoli soup, bacon cheese burgers, cole slaw, baked beans, and root beer floats for dessert. I'm still full. Not enough activity today, so I will go for a long walk before bedtime.  Spent the afternoon napping and reading. What a life !

I just got home from my daughter's.  Had a nice visit with my granddaughter and her husband and good dinner....chicken on the grill, green beans, mac and cheese, deviled eggs and chocolate cake for dessert.

This is the granddaughter who just got her Master's from the University of Houston and who called me every Sunday for several months as part of a class project.  I was her "Sage Senior" for a psychology class.  She surprised me with a "Certificate of Recognition" fro participating as "Sage for Clinical Social Work Practice with Elders Class".  It was signed by the Professor who taught the class and the Dean of the Graduate College.  I'm surprised, proud, elated and humble all at the same time!  I thought Natalie's heartfelt THANKS was more than enough.

She also gave me a key fob that is in the shape of the Houston Cougar's paw print and that lights up to help me find the door keyhole in the dark and a picture frame that will hold a picture of Natalie and me that her husband took today.

Sounds like I just did a lot of bragging but then I guess I have a right to brag.  Just needed to share all that with my good friends.

Now I'm going to go watch some TV through my eyelids!  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!

A good Memorial Day evening to EVERYFRIEND.

Nothing exciting here today, just continued to clean and got the patio furniture out of the garage and put on the deck.

Thank you, JEANNE LEE, for the nice graphic for us to enjoy today.

CALLIE, sorry you are not feeling well today.  Hope you are better tomorrow.

SHIRLEY, I know it is a hard decision to make, but sometimes putting the animal down is the best thing you can do for them.  Andy's drive to Colorado will surely be a difficult one for him with out Cheyenne by his side.  I know I would feel a whole lot safer with Cheyenne there camping, for many reasons.

JANE, how nice of Natalie to present you with a "Certificate of Recognition" for your help with her psychology class.

JUNE, sounds like you had a very restful day.

Pleasant dreams to you all tonight.

Quite day here today.   Middle daughter went home fairly early this morning, she had grocery shopping to do and has to be at work tomorrow.  It is her last day at school tomorrow and then off for the summer.  My wife and her are off to England and France the end of next month.  The will be gone for four weeks.  They will visit family in England and on to France to visit my daughters, daughter.

Shirley, I was very surprised at your thought about putting the cat down.

I feel tired tonight, so I am off to bed.  Nite all, God Bless and sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone...

Beautiful sunny morning here, hope it stays that wy as I would like to get the garden in today.

Dr was pleased with hubby and took him off of one pill...I take that as a good sign. Met up with the kids and had lunch.

Going to make this short as I need to get a wiggle on..

Take care everyone and enjoy your day..

Sorry forgot to say LOVE the photo of Jane and Natalie, thank you Jeanne Lee for posting it!

A very nice Memorial Day graphic, Jeanne Lee.  Thanks for taking care of us while Joan is making her big move.  I think she said it was to happen on Wednesday.  I hope and pray it will go easy for her.  I'm sure the kids will make it as smooth as possible.

Like Shirley, when I was a kid yesterday was always called Decoration Day and we honored all of the ones in our family that were gone as well as those who were lost in the military.  I can remember going with my folks to put flowers on my grandparents' graves.  Then the rest of day was spent picnicking with all of the traditional food, such as hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon, etc.,  and swimming on opening day at the municipal pool in the park.  All of the kids were excited......summer was finally here!

Jane, nice picture of you and Natalie and really thoughtful of her to give you the certificate.  I wish her all the luck in the world.

Amy, so happy to hear that DH is improving and able to reduce his medication.

Take care, Lloyd, while you are out working.  My hair turned white back in my early forties.  I always blamed by kids.   ;)

Hi everyone.  We are in for a cloudy day today and not as hot only up to 85 degrees this afternoon.  After an early evening with a severe thunderstorm watch we ended up with only a short downpour.  It probably was not much in the way of help.  Only a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.  I have no plans to leave the house today but need to fix some more sausage muffins or Pat's breakfast and chop up some green onions.  I also have to call and reschedule my dental cleaning as found yesterday I had another appointment at the same time.

We had a nice time with Scott and Jennifer last evening.  Scott brought over everything needed and made a taco pie that was very good.  We fixed a salad to so with it.  Jennifer had made a Coca Cola cake that was delicious.  As I mentioned yesterday this was in memory of his wife's birthday.

Callie, sure hope you are feeling better today.

Hal, you got more rain than we did yesterday evening.  At least the rain cooled it off here.  It sounds like you will be by yourself for a month when you wife goes to England.

June, don't most of the Gideon's donate their time?  It sounds like you had a pretty typical holiday meal yesterday.

Shirley, I think cats can get along by themselves for two or three days if they have food and water and a litter box.  I am sure you will hate to lose Tom (cat) but that time comes for all pets as we all know.  It sounds like you will soon be leaving to go camping.  I bet it will still be pretty chilly in the mountains.

JaneS, the fluorescent bulb problem sounds like a job for a family member to help you with as it is so dangerous for you to be climbing up.  You asked for suggestions and that is mine.  :)  I now read that you have spoken to your son and he will help you.  That dark kitchen gives you a good reason to eat out and see you did just that at your daughter's.  Another good menu.  What a nice gesture to give you the certificate. You do have a right to brag but I hadn't even thought of your comments as bragging.  Good picture of you and your beautiful granddaughter.

Lloyd, you were quite a marksman.  I remember firing the rifle as a young teenager but never cared for hunting or fishing and would much rather read a book. I think I was in my thirties when I started turning grey and it now snow white.

Amy, anytime a medication can be stopped is a good things.  Glad you hubby is doing well.

Phyllis, as I was growing up we did decoration day as you describe as my mother always took us to the cemeteries where her family was buried and my dad's family was buried.  She didn't need to buy flowers as we had a lot of peony bushes that would be in full bloom by Decoration Day.

Jeanne Lee

When I was about 42 or 43 my mother was visiting and commented that I was getting quite grey.  I said "Yes, I've been premature grey for a while."  She told me, "Jeanne, when you're over 40 it's not premature."   ;D

Good Morning Everyone!

Just got through cleaning up and getting myself ready to go to a doctors apmt.  Wife has an apmt with PT this afternoon for a finger on her hand.  Ah, the joys of old age.

I don't know when I started getting grey, I can remember sitting in the barbers chair and looking at the clippings and see the grey, a long time ago.  But like Larry I am more white and blonde than grey.  But they say red heads do that.

I am not sure what kind of weather we are in for.  Weather guy last night talked pf all these lows coming through and  possible rain/storms but right now it is bright sunshine and a hi of 88 predicted.

Janie, two fine looking ladies.

Joanie, tomorrow is the big day.  Hope all goes well and you have an easy trip.  Hopefully you will make the trip in one day.

Shirley

#25
I started turning gray in high school & was dying it before 30 because I was "half & half".  Quit dying about 50 & was snow white.  I had to buy Clairol Black Velvet to cover & blend in.... quite a difference.

Jane, you & gr-daughter have exactly same face features!!! Pretty genes you passed on.  Love that the college recognized your time for their research.  Those light fixtures are a pain, I have one that holds about 6 or 8 short florescent bulbs & got the replacements put in myself last time.  My son thought it might be a "starter".... when I talked to him about it on the phone, but luck was with me & just a couple bulbs fixed it.

Good idea, June, extra thoughts & prayers for a difficult trip made easier for our Joan.

Larry, one year the peonies bloomed early so Mother cut them & filled the old refrigerator in the garage until time to go.  Remember those old refrigerators with the round dome on top?  They kept one like that in the garage as long as they lived, Dad would replace the gasket on the door & make repairs now & then when needed, but it held his pitcher of lemonade all summer every year from before I was 10.  Most of the time they only had one shelf in it so it could hold watermelons & vases of flowers...

Hal, I do feel so sorry for TomKat, you've never seen an animal so miserable as he is when I start that engine.  He has always gone crazy from the first time we put him in a cage so they could sleep inside instead of out in the cold.  Big cage that I hauled 2 ducks around in before Mama gave her babies to Cas.  Tom would lay on his back with all 4 feet shaking the cage door & screaming the whole time.  The other 2 babies would stare & act like they didn't know him.  That was why Cas made them a heated room (light bulb) with raised floor & carpet over the top & back to keep them warm just outside the back door of the garage.  They were weaned & no sign of Mama but not litter box trained or even touched by humans.   I did put all 3 babies in the cage when I took them for "surgery" and he was a mess that time.

For his sake, Larry, I'd leave him home with dry food for 2 or even 3 days, but since it takes a day driving each way to CO, it will be a full week and he would get frantic for food in that time.  He loves to eat, thinks about it all the time.  If I go to the kitchen he is under my foot to see if I have anything for him.  After all these years you'd think he wouldn't get so upset but it is worse, if anything. But I don't have the heart to "put him out of his misery" and not willing to stay home all the time so will keep cleaning up messes and for sure, don't fuss at poor Tom because he can't help it. As soon as I'm ready to leave I open the cage doors so they can roam where ever they want.  Tom goes from one end to the other & manages to make messes.  Use lots of air sprays & disinfectants.  If he gets something I don't want to throw away, I put in a large plastic bag & bring home to hose off.  I put extra flannel sheet over the bed & keep extras handy for that reason.  Not a nice thought.

Son called from the park, taking his pup for a last walk, smell the air.  His son took the morning off to go with them, he was at the house for several hours last night.  Son is 25 & dog is about 18, so they have been together a long time.  Our pets are family and we are having a hard time dealing with Cheyenne not being able to get around and can't risk having his mother-in-law tripping over her.  His wife & MIL get here on Sat.  I did offer to keep her  (Cheyenne) here but it is time, I can't lift her if she needs help.  If she fell the wrong way she wouldn't be able to get up at this stage.... but it's not an easy thing to do.  I am rambling, just not a good day at all.
  :tissue: :tissue: :tissue:

Good Morning,

I'm feeling better but it will take a few more days of a bland diet to solve the issue.

Janie,  the height difference between you and your granddaughter is about the same as mine with Miss Emily, who is my brunette grandchild in between two redheads.  Love the picture.

Other than a lovely time last evening visiting with my neighbor on her patio,  I did nothing worth mentioning over the weekend.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning dear hearts. Janie, you are correct. Bis leaves on Wed. It is quite obvious that my mind is lacking a some pieces of good sense. How great it was that the University granted you that certificate. You deserved it for sure Jane. You do so much for so many. Thank you for the picture, a pair of lovely ladies, for sure.

Amy, congratulations to your Hubby and to you for the good care you give him!

Larry, to my knowledge, the Gideons donate everything…their time, their Bibles, etc. The five dollars I mentioned was what it cost them to donate their Bibles. They rely on gifts only to my knowledge…and prayers of course.

Tisie, It is time for your son's beloved dog to go where our pets go. Heart breaking as it it, it is kinder than letting them suffer the various ills of old age. May God comfort your son in his grief.

Callie, I am happy to hear you are feeling better. I am reading a book titled Silent Takeover, how the Body Hijacks the Mind. It deals with diet, mind, addictions, and prayer. Takes concentration for me, but definitely interesting.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good afternoon, no sun and threat of more rain, which it did all weekend.Next week also. the grass is growing and green.
Joan, we are with you in prays and thoughts.

Amy, that is a giant step less one pill.  what a great sign.

JaneS, love the photo of the two of you, and such a great honor.

Phyllis, I forgot if I thanked you for such a lovey Memorial Day graphic.

Larry, when I was a girl scout, we were always in the Decoration Day parade, (I still call it that, and people look at me, cannot change a 93 yr. old brain)  We went to all the cemeteries in Patchogue.  I also remember my grandmother had a set of flags that fit on the radiator of the car. I guess you are to young to remember that. :)

Well, the garden and I have something in common....we are all in..I even found some of Janie's zzzz to use...  A lady told me to put vanilla extract on and the bugs wouldn't bite, I tried it and she was right!! Now after about an hour or so the bugs did get to biting. But I thought the vanilla was much better than the bug spray with all the chemicals in it. Also whipper snapped the front and back yard.

Looks like a storm brewing now, bit of rain here so far.

Linedancer, we used to have a coal furnace and in the winter time Dad and I would make sinkers and jigs for fishing..he had a wee cast iron pot that he would fill with lead pieces and set it on the bed of coals till melted. You brought back good memories, thank you.

June we will all surround Joan in prayers and hope for an easy transition to where she is going.

Callie, hope your feeling better..not nice being outta sorts!

Guess, I had better go and  do KP duty.....
