Thank you Jeanne for posting the photo for me.  Natalie is tall like her Dad's family but SHIRLEY seems to have seen something that our family has been saying for years.  Her other grandmother said it when she was only about three.  We were all together for one of the holidays and Helen said, "Natalie looks like you, Jane".  I couldn't see it until I looked at some old photos of me when I was young and she does have some of the same features.  She is much prettier than I was and a hundred times more confident.

Amy, I don't think I said anything about your husbands last hurdle.  I bet he is feeling lighter in body and spirit by now.

SHIRLEY,  I think we all know what your son is going trhough now and we suffer with him.  We also know how torn you are about TomCat and we are with you on that one.

My prayers are also with JOANIE for a stressless trip and an easy transition to her new quarters.  I  know she'll be happy when the move is complete and she's all settled in her new digs.

Had a busy day and I'm sorry I haven't posted all day.  I'm glad that most of you seem to be doing well.  We're having rain...AGAIN!  I'm really getting tired of it it.  I stand on the front porch and I can see the grass jumping out of the ground and I hear it shouting "ouch" at each breakthrough.

Soon time to think about scrounging up some supper but right now, I'm craving a cup of coffee.  So that's what I'm going to get.  Make the rest of the day a good one!

Good morning everyone, well the 4 teeth are out and glad of it. My dentist was out on vacation so her partner did the extractions.  Did not feel anything and no big numbness after either. I did nothing but sleep on and off the rest of the day, Now I am wide awake. Been reading the posts but not commenting.

JANE great photo of you and Natalie. Wonderful certificate to frame and let everyone see who goes to your home.

PHYLLIS     like you we always went to a lake on Decoration day for picnicking and swimming. Yesterday I was wishing I had worn my winter jacket.

LARRY  it looks like we have had the 4th rainiest May in over 100 years of record keeping. Would appreciate a few sunny days.

JEANNE LEE  my Dad was all gray by age 20 and I must have taken after him. By 30 I had more gray than dark hair. My 3 are in their 60's, oldest has a lot of gray now, second still has a head full of dark hair but his beard is white. Daughter I noticed lately o Skype is showing more gray in her dark hair.

HAL  too many doctor appointments, I have another one on Friday with my eye doctor. Hope I can stop those Restasis eye drops. Then about a week later I see the pain doctor. Every time I go there it has been either snowing or raining.

SHIRLEY  I know how your son and family feel about Cheyenne. When my  DIL had “my” Abby sent over the Rainbow Bridge she called me after. I cried for a week after she told me. Even after the years since I look for her every time I go to their home.

CALLIE  my nephew lives in Georgia and his cell phone number is from he was living in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I asked him about the phone location.

AMY  the ground is still too cold here for planting. I still have the heat on to keep the dampness out. Most years the heat in this building is off in mid May. Glad the manager has let it stay on longer this year.

Think I will go have another nap. I will be thinking and praying for Joan as they make the long trip to her new home.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My day got started early.  We had a thunderstorm during the night and Annie platered herself to me and Mickie jumped down and hid in her favorite corner.  After it passed, Mickie decided that she had to go so we got up and went outside.  It smelled so fresh and clean that I sat on the porch and waited for the doggies and watched the sky lighten in the East.

Then we came in and Annie got her pill and while we waited an hour for that, we all snuggled up on the sofa.  My plan was to sleep until 7 this morning but the dogs had a different idea.

We've had breakfast and we're ready for whatever the day has to bring.  I'm hoping it brings my son to replace the flourescent bulb in the kitchen.  If it doesn't, he'll do it when he picks up Kiran tomorrow.

I hope you all have a lovely day and that JOAN'S day is an easy one!

Hi everyone.  It looks like we are in for another cloudy day but will see temperatures in the high 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was just a quiet day.  In a little while Scott will be over and we will make a quick trip to Costco for a few items.  Then we have the last Wednesday night dinner at the church until after the summer.  It will be outside grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings.  Then Jennifer and Scott will come out and spend a little time with us.

Jeanne, I think I have earned everyone of my grey hairs but glad to still be around to carry them on my head.

Shirley, I do remember those old refrigerators and even the icebox we had when I was still very young.  It sounds like Tom keeps you very busy when you travel with him.  Too bad he is so nervous.

June, thanks for the info on the Gideons.

Gloria, glad you got along fine with the extractions.

I haven't tried to respond to everyone today as not feeling very peppy.  I have read all of the postings and hope all enjoy a good day.  I also am keeping Joan in my thoughts and prayers as she makes that long trip from Florida to Alabama.

June Drabek

Good Morning all, I woke at 4 a.m. today so not quite sure I am "with-it".

I'm sure our Bis is traveling along in her special transport, and I pray she is comfortable. I know her kids are doing the best they can for their sweet Mother. And God does hear our prayers. Thanks be to God.

Bible study in another 5 minutes so I daren't close my eyes till that is over. Jeff and Gary are going to take turns doing  the book of Matthew, so that will be interesting. I was hoping Gary would follow up on Revelations after we finished Daniel, but he said Jeff had already suggested they share Matthew.

Gloria, I am happy you are finished with the extractions...it gives me the willies just thinking about that many teeth all at once.....brrrrrr..You are one brave lady.

I must scoot down to Chapel...see you later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Afternoon,

Gloria,  Okmulgee is near Tulsa - about 100 miles from me.

When I began turning gray, it was a streak across the front of my hair.  I thought it looked rather "elegant" but as time went on, more and more gray appeared and now I'm  "salt and pepper".

What hair my husband had was reddish.  He always grew a beard for Leadville Boom Days and it came in white on his chin and red up the sides of his face.  One year, he used cake coloring to put a blue streak down the middle of the white.   (Yes, there was a lot of eye-rolling and head-shaking   ;D )
During the festivities, he turned to see a Japanese tourist standing right next to him with his camera pointed at the beard.  I'll bet that caused a lot of comments back home.   ;D

Have made the Grocery/Braum's trek and the pantry is now stocked.

It's hot and humid today.  I'm glad to be inside until the sun goes down behind the trees.  Then it should be  good patio-sitting.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Mary Ann

My hair has been white for so long, I don't even remember when it really got to the white stage.  I started getting those white hairs in my late 20s, but I was salt and pepper in my 30s and gradually got white hair somewhere along the line.  I like it much better than my younger hair which was a mousy brown.  My hair always has had body which helps.

Had an interesting Bible study today. Jeff concentrated on the first chapter of Matthew...the one with all the un-pronounceable names of the "begats". Gary still has to finish up the book of Daniel, and Jeff said because of schedules the two of them may find it necessary to do two weeks in a row. They are both popular so there will be no complaints.

Nearly time to go down for lunch, and then it will be home for a long nap, since I have been "up" from 4 a.m.  I'm hoping and praying that our Bis is having a very comfortable and comforting journey to her new abode. Thank you God !!
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good afternoon everyone!
Well yesterday afternoon we had a frog strangler and it looks like we are going to have another this afternoon.  A lot of folks lost their power but we didn't.  Last night after everything calmed down we have some blips which of course shut off our TV and computer, so I had to re-boot everything.

Tisie, Larry I remember the refrigerators with the coils on top, lasted forever, no like todays.  Also my Aunt had a Kelvanator (sp) which used natural gas to make it cool.  Like a pilot light.  Speaking of which the old cook stove my Grandad had had a small burner that had a fire about the size of a pilot light that he kept his coffee pot on to keep the coffee warm.  Stuff was so stout in the afternoon you could whistle and it would come to you.

Well I hear the thunder rumbling in the distant.

June, we are thinking of study the Gospel of Mark next.  I haven't looked at it yet.

Gloria, you are one brave woman.  Four teeth in one setting.  YOu getting false teeth? or what......

Checking in - be good and have a very good week.

JaneS

In a few minutes I'll be off to greet my public at Wally World.  I kind o like being there in the evening once a week.  Something different always seems to happen on Wednesday evening.  We'll see what it is tonight.

I was about 8 years old when my uncle brought one of those refrigerators with the coil on top all the way from his business in New Jersey to central PA for my grandmother's birthday.  All I can remember is her saying over and over, "Freddie you shouldn't have".  Finally, my very outspoken Aunt Esther said in no uncertain terms, "YES HE SHOULD HAVE, AND HE SHOULD HAVE DONE IT YEARS AGO."  I'm not sure how many years they'd actually been on the market but my grandmother didn't say another word.  And that fridge sat proudly in her kitchen for many more years.  Of course, the ice box stayed on the back porch for a couple of years....just in case.

Good afternoon, EVERYFRIEND.

Finished up the last of the planting of flowers on our deck....it sure is pretty out there!

Have been cleaning house....seems the inside took a back seat to the outside.  Granddog Lola went home yesterday, so we always have a bit to clean up after she is gone.  She does not shed one bit, but she is like a little magnet and brings in a bit of debris on her silky coat.

There was a terrible tanker truck accident on Interstate 25 today around noon, and it has shut down the freeway in both directions.  Sure is going to be a mess for commuter this afternoon for sure, and maybe longer.  They can not assess the damage until the fire is out.  Some of the light rail lines may have been damaged also.  So time will tell how long this might be a big issue.  My son and my daughter-in-law need to go on the interstate, one in each direction, so not sure what they are going to find at traffic ime.  Tomorrow I have my yearly physical and would need to travel on this highway as well.

I have been thinking about Our Bis all day, hoping that her travels to Alabama from Florida will not be too hard of a trip for her.  I do not think they will try to do it in one day, as it is a long drive.  I sure hope she can tolerate the drive well.

JUNE, your Bible Study sounded enjoyable today.

GLORIA, so happy to read the extractions went well for you.  I hope you will not have too much discomfort over night from it.

CALLIE, glad you are feeling a bit better....continue to do so.

JANE, hope your evening at work goes well.  I got a good chuckle at your Aunt Esther spouting off about Freddie bring the ref ridge sooner!

Enjoy your evening with Scott and Jennifer, LARRY.

Have a good evening,

Jenny

Hal, I just saw on the Weather Channel where San Antonio is having floods.  I know you have wanted rain for some time, but not that amount.

A friend of my mother had a GE refrigerator with a monitor top (which is what I think they called those coils).  We still had an ice box.  Our first refrigerator had a remote unit in our basement and was converted from our neighbor's ice box.  Our ice box wasn't large enough to convert so Dad bought the one from the neighbor who had just bought a new Leonard electric refrigerator.  My uncle did the conversion of the ice box.  That was probably about 1939 and we used that until 1945 when appliances came back.  Our refrigerator was a Kelvinator (I did not know Kelvinator made a gas refrigerator but Serval (or something similar did).  Leonard and Kelvinator were made in Grand Rapids by the same company but eventually they discontinued the Leonard brand.  I worked in the appliance department of the local electric company.  Actually our company was part of the utility (gas and electric) that covered most of lower Michigan.

More than you wanted to know.

alstroemerias - Jenny, please explain that word to me.

Mary Ann, I didn't know you could convert the ice boxes.  My Grandfather had a farm and could never keep an iceman, just not enough business I guess.  But when he did he always got ice, if I remember correctly ice wasn't really expensive.  I know when he had some folks come in with a car they generally went to the ice plant in town and bought a 50 lb block and we would have ice tea, which was a real treat.  He had drilled a hole in the floor under the ice box for the drip line (remember those) and let it drip under the house where he kept watermelons and cantaloupes he brought in from the field, he grew them.  Do you remember the little signs icemen gave you and you kept it in the window showing the different weights you could order, you turned the sign up to the weight you wanted that day.

My Aunt and Uncle bought his place and brought in electricity, he already had natural gas from a line they ran years before.  But Papa (my grandfather) would only cook with it and my aunt and uncle found this gas fridge cheap and used it for years.

My other grandmother who had a farm further out also got electricity about the same time. I think it was the REA (Rural electrification program) that run all the lines.  I was pretty young, but remember the men of the family wiring up the houses.  Granny didn't like the wall plugs being open, scared of them.

MARYANN, thank you for reading my post so closely......alstromerias was suppose to be ALSO.  My auto spell checker sometimes puts in words that I do not mean to be there!  Thank you for pointing this out so I could correct it!

Bob's dad worked for the gas company in Panama City FL. for a few years and they sold appliances in that store also.

Love reading about the ice boxes, etc.  when I was a small child I remember a neighbor friend putting the card in the window so the ice man would know how much ice to bring her.

HAL, I can well imagine it was hard to get ice out on a farm.  I remember going to the ice plant and my grandpa buying a big chunk of ice for their icebox...  I think we always had a refrigerator at our house, as I do not remember ice being delivered there.

My Austin Son's home is on the market as of today, and he is having showings one right after the other.  He hopes it will sell quickly as many of you know it is hard to keep it spiffy and be ready to grab the puppy dog and head out at a moments notice.  We do not expect it to be on the market long as Austin is a hot market.

Jenny, your son has a beautiful home, and the realtor did a great presentation. Even if it is a slow market in that area, the home should sell quickly, that is a great deal of home for that price. I wish him the best.

I slept the whole afternoon away. Now it is time to heat up some leftovers from lunch but I have absolutely no appetite in spite of the fact that  I just took an extended walk around the property.

I am reading Silent Takeover, and it is an eye opener. I am aghast in learning what damage all our electronic equipment is doing to our minds and bodies. Especially to our children. I wish I had known when my kids were little ones that I should not have used the t.v. as a baby sitter. It sure was a help to me, but not good at all for the young ones...now it is much more than t.v....it is all the electronics we can't live without...like our computers, cell phones, ipads, and on and on......

Time to go heat up my supper.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I'm home from work and not much special tonight...just a lot of nice people!

I remember when the ice man went down our street, the kids would all follow him on a hot day and grab the chips that came off when he chipped a block to fid a homeowner's order.  What a way to spend a hot summer day!  I suppose the mothers would monitor that nowadays and the kids would be admonished that the is "DIRTY"!  Well, here I am...alive and kicking and none the worse for wear.

Hal, maybe "convert" was not the right word but my uncle had a unit with an ice cube tray or two but the motor was in our basement with the connection down there.  I don't know where he had it connected because we didn't have outlets all over the place; as I recall there was a hanging light, maybe two because we did have an electric washer (spinner).  That refrigerator did the trick from the late 1930s until I bought a 7 cu ft refrigerator in the mid 40s.  This was a mid-deluxe refrigerator in those days and is nothing compared to small refrigerators of today!

Yes, I remember the cards for the ice man.  We also had a Colonial man who sold baked goods so when we wanted him to stop, we also put his card in the window.  I don't think I have either card now, but I kept one of them for years - just because!  We also went to the ice truck to get chips.  When the ice cream man came, we'd get cones from him. We only bought a quart of ice cream and that took care of us (we bought ice cream at a nearby drug store).  Of course, milk was delivered in those days - in glass bottles!

Jenny, your son's house is beautiful and I can see why he'd like to take it with him.  Maybe he'll find something just as convenient and lovely and lovely location.

good evening everyone  Time to bid you all good night and sweet Dreams.

well one of my many jobs was delivering Ice to older folks. I used a little red wagon, with the stabilizer broke you had to pull fast going down grade so not to let the front wheels fold under. hard job for a small child. Have a good rest of the evening. Hope to see you all tomorrow. good night.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'll be taking my car in to get the A/C fixed today.  Bucky called on Tuesday to say he had found a good used condenser so he's saving me a big chunk of the cost of the converter.  The labor is still pretty expensive but it's sure to feel good when the temps reach the 90s and the the humidity climbs this summer.

I hope you all have a lovely day filled with whatever you wish for.  And I hope Joan is soon established in her new digs and back among us.  I sure to miss seeing her drop in.

Well we got a decent shower late yesterday afternoon, really rained hard for about 20 minutes.  And they are calling for more.

Expecting some of grandkids over this morning, they are in town from Fort Worth for a few days but are staying at a fancy hotel close to his home office.  His Mother, my youngest daughter, and middle daughter, will be up today from Del Rio just for the day so we may or may not have a house full.

Well Lloyd, just well, you just cant stand prosperity, can you.  Hope you have success on the second try seeding you pasture.
