June, thank you for telling someone about how you are feeling.  About the hospital, it is understandable, your reluctance, but maybe you should talk directly with doctor or your sons and get their input.  But, I think you are old enough to make your own decisions.  God did give us a brain and expects us to use it with his guidance.  He even gives us an instruction manual,it is called The Bible.

Janie, you speak about Medicare not paying everything, Medicare has always only paid 80 percent of medical expense and you or a supplemental insurance had to pick up the remaining 20 percent.  Some supplemental insurance also pays for meds and other things.  There is no co-pay required by Medicare, possibly your supplemental does.  I am fortunate I have Tricare for Life, provided by the military, that picks up my 20 percent not paid by Medicare and also I can go to the base and get my prescriptions at no charge, for me and my wife.  Dental and eye glasses are at my expense, although, I carry dental insurance for both my wife and myself, but it caps out at a very low amount and my wifes did just that last year.

I didn't mean to write a book, but looks like I did.

Shirley, I know what you mean about outflow of funds this time of year.  Both my house and car insurance just came due and city/county taxes will be due in October and then of course right after that Thanksgiving/Christmas season comes around.  That jingle in jingle bells is the money flying out of my bank account...... :o

well I have slept a lot today, but I am going ti hit the hay and hope I sleep good. we are and have all day thunder storms. that weather man is at this time saying more same thing. they are talking about flash flooding in places. the branches are flowing full tilt.  well it will make the grass grow and feed the cattle. wish you all a good night's sleep and sweet dreams. good night. hope to see you all tomorrow.

I do have a supplement but all the deductibles are rising and so are the premiums.  I've NEVER had a bill from the dentist before and my bill from the eye dr was always under $20.  I had a bill from the dentist over 100 and the last eye dr. bill was almost 80.  They are not doing anything they never did before.  It's the changes in the deductibles and premiums that are hurting.  I don't profess to know everrything there is to know about insurance but I do know when things change and I pay more money for the same care.

NOW I'm going to bed.  And I promise not to mention health insurance again.  Please don't make me break that promise. :D :tickedoff:

Beautiful cool morning and the sun is shinning too!!!  A day of rest here other than make meals. Think I will put a roast in the crockpot for supper tonight.

Hi everyone. It will be another day like yesterday weather wise getting into the low 90's and mostly cloudy this afternoon with a low chance of rain. I anticipate this will be my normal Sunday with Sunday School and Church this morning, rest this afternoon and then watching the finish of the golf tournament.  There are pros from many countries now qualified to play in the PGA tournaments at the top level.

Gloria, hope the tornado and thunderstorms stayed away from your area yesterday.  Hope you were able to sleep last night.

JaneS, you might ask your dentist if they take the Care Credit Card as depending on the amount, you can have up to 24 months to pay off the bill with no interest as long as you make a minimum monthly payment.  I have used it numerous times and always pay it off before any interest is charged.  I used to let my bills set until close to the due date but anymore try to pay them as received so I don't forget to pay them.  The big ones come at the beginning of the month and that is when my retirement pay is received.

Shirley, since when I was working Federal workers did not pay into Social Security and then only into the part that provides Part A, that covers hospitalization and surgery.  In the Atlanta area we had many different health insurance options but here in South Carolina the Federal employees and Retirees have few choices and Blue Cross and Blue Shied were obviously the best.

Jane, not picking up your mail or opening emails would be a unique way to avoid paying bills although the long term consequences would probably not be to your liking.  :)  Have you considered using online bill pay?  It is so easy and quick with having to set up each payee only once and then just adding the amount and date to be paid each month.  It also saves money, if the service is free, as they pay the postage costs. Glad to see you took care of that "loafing".

June, hope you were able to have lunch yesterday with your friends and that you are up to going to the Church service today.  The furniture sliders work very well.  However, how about letting Gary or Dori move your furniture  as it would be much safer for you.

Lloyd, sorry your horse show had to be cancelled.  Will it be rescheduled?  You are a lucky guy to be brought fresh sweet corn.

Amy, I well remember just a few years ago when there was an egg shortage and they were over $2 at Walmart.  I actually feel sorry for the egg farmers.  However, I do know that Aldi's and other stores use "loss leaders" on a few items to attach you to their stores since most people buy other items while there.

Jenny, amputations are tough things.  I saw my dad struggle with his and also Stacey had three amputations in a three week time  These were required as gangrene had set in.

Callie, I saw a notice this morning about a bad tornado in the Tulsa area.  Are any of your family up there now?

Shirley, I use a lot of that rubber like liner and it sure works.  It sure keeps things from sliding around.  People are being forced into higher deductibles on their insurance in order to be able to afford the premiums.

Hal, a good one about the jingle in Jingle Bells.  I had never thought of it that way before.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Janie, I didn't mean to upset you, really I didn't.  Just trying to explain about Medicare.  Please accept my apology.

Got to get a move on, getting ready for church.  Wife is staying home this morning, jet lag is still messing with her.  That 17 hours on the road got to her.

Everyone have a great day.  Lloyd send me some of that rain.

Jeanne Lee

I like Hal's explanation of the Jingle.  I also recently found out from a friend who it was that coined the term "golden years".  It was the doctors and insurance companies who are raking in the gold!  :knuppel2:

Good Morning,

There's water in my rain gauge this morning!!!!!!   I heard a couple of thunder rumbles off in the distance during the night but no evidence of the wind that other areas in the state had.

Larry,  none of my family now lives in Tulsa but dil is at Grand Lake on a "Girls Weekend Out" and may have experienced some of the severe storms.

Jenny,  other dil posted quite a few Facebook pix about the baseball game in Denver.  They moved to the concourse when it began to rain but she didn't say anything about the game being postponed or called.

Plan A is to "get me to the church on time".  Better start working on that.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

LARRY, I pay just about everything on line.  Most of my utilities are and insurance payments are automatic.  The only ones I handle (one click) are infrequent payments like credit cards which I try not to use.  I do have a Care Credit and I'm familiar with how it's used.  But I only use it at the Vet's.  Not many dogs have their own credit card but mine do.  Incidentally, the WM credit card has the same options.  If you spend certain amounts you have 6, 12 or 18 months interest free.

HAl, no apology necessary unless you like to apologize for Donald Trump and his cronies.  They are my big complaint.  YOU didn't upset me.  HE DID...DOES!

And that's not a political statement....it's purely personal!

CALLIE, I have family in the Tulsa area!  My granddaughter lives in Jenks just outside of Tulsa.  She said the tornado hit NORTH of them.  They had lots of wind and rain but that's all.  No damage!

YOU FOLKS ARE THE BEST!

Good morning.

Jane, Medicare and BC/BS still pays the 80% and 20% as they always have.  We have never been "out of pocket" in the 20 years we have had Medicare and BC/BS   But Blue Cross does not pay for any services provided by a non-Blue Cross provider.  I just found out the hard way when my doctor sent me a bill for $218.  The lab my doctor uses is no longer a BC provider so I have to pay the charges.  I will be having a talk with him shortly.  Either they send my lab work to another lab or I won't be having routine lab work done or unless it is an emergency.

For all intents and purposes, summer is over for us.  Cathie starts back to school tomorrow.  Teachers go back two weeks before the kids.  Since she only had a week off before school starting and her summer job ending, we went up to Sulphur (OK) to visit family and friends for a few days.  The weather there and here is gorgeous for August - 80°s and low 90°s.  Hope it lasts for the rest of the month!!!  Think we have only had three 100° or plus days so far this summer.  Very unusual.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Mary

Good morning everyone, mice and cool this morning with sunshine and blue sky. Yesterday was horrible with rain at times light and at others cloudbursts. At least I did get a good night sleep and feel better. I cannot think of why those sleepless nights, nothing except my back is bothering me. Nothing has me worried either.

SHIRLEY  when I retired I joined United Health for the added coverage. I had them for 20+ years. As soon as obamacare came in their price jumped-doubled. Last year for no reason they dropped me. They never let me know and when I called they could or would not tell me the reason. I joined a different health plan and it is much better and covers just about everything.

JANE  so far DT has not got a new health bill passed. I know many who hated the obamacare for all it cost them. Well ignore the mail but let us know where we can send email to you when you are behind bars. :)

JUNE  I have wondered about those sliders for my bedroom set. Heavy oak and I sure cannot move them as they are. Would love to move the bureau and the chest of drawers but impossible for me.

LLOYD  sorry you missed out on that $100 yesterday.

AMY  I get eggs from a farm, cost more than the markets but I know they are fresh and they do taste better. Odd thing, in the markets they have both the brown and the white shell eggs and the white ones are much cheaper. Really no difference in the taste of them either.

JANE  since I have CNA's coming here I find I enjoy loafing. Never had time for it before.

JENNY  I pray for everyone who has had any kind of amputation. It is hard for them and family, too. You are right, Shirley and I both like the cold weather and still like snow.

HAL  I am glad now that I no longer have a car or a house. Taxes I no longer have to pay.

AMY  just about every day for me now is a day of rest. Glad I do not get bored.

LARRY  yesterday's weather was not a fraction of what the weather guessers said.  We had rain but mostly in the morning. Sun showed up around 5pm.

Just about everyone had something of interest to me in their posts and I'll chime in on the insurance.  My company pays for my retiree insurance with Aetna and it does not cost me anything.  If I live long enough, I would not be surprised to have retirees asked to pay a portion.  New employees of the company have an entirely different plan and the company may provide an insurance allowance, and the employee makes his/her own arrangements (I'm not entirely sure about that, but it is what I've understood).  Aetna pays 80% of the amount that Medicare does not pay and I pay the 20% that Aetna does not pay.  I have both medical and dental insurance.  My insurance does not cover hearing aids or glasses.  For many years I did not have many medical bills, but age is taking its toll!  I pay almost all of my bills through the bank; some are billed to my credit card and I pay those through the bank.  It does save postage!

Dot and I did our regular Sunday thing at Mr Burger/The Cholesterol Pit; this morning we split a piece of lemon meringue pie, Dot had an olive burger and I had a deluxe hamburger (not on purpose but when Dot told him I wanted "everything" on mine, he said to make it "deluxe".  Naturally, it cost a bit more.  We alternate paying so next week will be my turn.

We have a very comfortable day so far.  Radar doesn't show any rain and we are in the mid-70s.

I'd better close my book!

The day is flying by..I picked the beans and raspberries company came for a while. Rain also came while there were here ,they came on their bike/trike so had to get into their rain gear to go home.
Now it is sunny and cool, going to be great sleeping tonight.

Gloria, if I was short on eggs, when I lived on the farm I would high tail it to the hen house, lift a few hens and put the eggs in my apron then finish my baking. Now I have to make sure I have enough eggs so I don't have to head into town for more.

Mary Ann, I  laugh when I read about the Cholesterol Pit..we have some of those here too.

Sunday.  I have been to Church at our Chapel, and it was wonderful. The speaker was a Fire Captain in Orange Co.  He spoke on my favorite subject. That we are created. I have felt for a long time than my father and mother were my birth parents, but I feel we were "made" by God long before we were born of humans. I love the idea of His taking a piece of clay, molding it into me, and setting it aside. Then one day He put me into life on earth, breathed the Spirit into me and gave me to my mothers womb.

I hope my words have not offended anyone. I just needed to share them with those of you that are my Blessed friends here on Srs. and Friends.

Time has skipped away from me again..I must go down for lunch.

Home from lunch two hours ago…..you know what happened..sat down in the recliner and fell sound asleep. I intended to put in  a grocery order, but that will wait, as I would rather talk to all of you.

I want to thank you for putting up with my physical complaints, and thank you for all your good advice.  And that is the end of that. You are such a kind , loving, group of good friends, I am blessed to be part of the group.

Larry, it was just one chair that I was thinking about using the sliders on, but have since changed my mind. Mostly, because I found that it already has plastic buttons on the chair legs.I didn't realize when I bought it as a side chair that it is very heavily made. I'm hoping Gary and Dori or some of the Grandkids would want it.

Jeanne Lee, I think we can put the hospital charges in with those of the doctors and insurance companies.

Gloria, even with sliders I would say you should not attempt to move the heavy oak bedroom furniture. Especially with you back problem. It is not worth it! even though I found sliders on my side chair it is still to heavy to move around. I felt so relieved when I had to sell my car, not just the expense of of operating it, but the worry of not being well enough to driving it, the care a car takes..it was a burden to me.

Mary Ann, I automatically pay all my bills with my bank credit card, and Gary and Dori send out all the Birthday and Anniversary cards for me as he shares my bank account. I am so blessed in what my family does for me.

I think I should get on with ordering my groceries on line..I need a bunch of juices and other goodies. Have a great rest of the afternoon my wonderful friends.

I'm up and attem this morning.  My dynamo will be here around 10, I think.  She usually lets me know when she's on the way.  Right now we're in "wait" mode for Annie's pill.  I have a cup of coffee and the doggies are patiently waiting for the buzzer.

It started to rain about midnight last night.  Thank goodness no thunder and lightning but it's been raining most of the night and it's supposed to continue most of the day.  I was going to make a quick trip to the grocery store but there isn't anything I really NEED today so maybe I'll scratch that.  I do have to go by the ATM and get a wallet refill.   My SIL has plans that include dinner today so on those days my daughter and I usually go out for Chinese.  He doesn't like Chinese and we both do.  She's picking me up around 5:30.  We have a very good Chinese restaurant about a mile from where I live.  We watched a little boy grow up there.

When they opened the restauran, it was his grandparents and his parents and he was the interpreter.  He was about 6 years old and he had a stool so he could see over the counter and reach the wall phone.  I understand that he is currently working on his Master's degree in Business Admin.  right now.  America has certainly been a land of opportunity for him!

I hope you all have a wonderful day filled with whatever you wish!

After 10 years, the wife starts to think their child looks kind of strange so she decides to do a DNA test.

She finds out that the child is actually from completely different parents.

Wife: Honey, I have something very serious to tell you

Husband: What’s up?

Wife: According to DNA test results, this is not our kid

Husband: Well you don't’ remember, do you?? When we were leaving the hospital, we noticed that our baby had pooped. Then you said: - Please go change the baby, I’ll wait for you here. So I went inside, got a clean one and left the dirty one there

Hi everyone.  A bright and sunny morning here in South Carolina.  We will be into the 90's this afternoon as we were yesterday.  We did get some brief periods of rain but not much yesterday and have a higher potential for more rain today.  The only thing on my schedule today is to pick up an online grocery order at Walmart later this morning.

Yesterday I went to Sunday School and then drove home and picked up Pat for Church.  We then went to Ruby Tuesday's for a delicious Sunday meal.  They are having a $13.99 special that is the salad bar, a choice of three entrees, and a dessert.  One of the entree choices was a petite sirloin steak.  So I had that with a side baked potato, the salad bar and topped it all off with a delicious chocolate dessert with cake and ice cream and caramel and chocolate toppings.

Jeanne, glad you solved the origin of the "golden years".  It obviously wasn't a term coined by older folks as it is a rare older person without aches and pains and ailments.  It is bad when our social calendars seems to be dominated by doctor visits.

Callie, I couldn't remember whether you still had grandchildren attending college up there.  I hope the "Girls Weekend Out" wasn't ruined by the storms.

Jane, it sounds like you are on top of the game in terms of paying bills.  We use our credit card a lot every month and it is always our biggest bill.  Glad your dogs have their own credit card but I bet you end up with the payments.  :)  I did not know that the Walmart credit card had the same delayed full payment without interest.  Sure glad your granddaughter had no damage from the Tulsa tornado.

Mary, it seems that we are seldom consulted about what lab will be used or the doctor's that will read the x-rays.  I have elected not to have Medicare Part B for Pat and I as our BC/BS plan covers those costs except for our co-pays and the 15%.  Usually these costs will be less for us that the premiums for the Part B.  Hard to comprehend that it is time for school to get started again.  Our next door neighbor is a teacher in the middle school and expect she will have to go back next week.

Gloria, my son says he always sleeps better when it is raining.  However, he seldom gets long periods of sleep.  I do think he may have narcolepsy as he fall asleep so easily and never seems to be rested.  My mother and uncle had the same thing so it may be inherited.  It sounds like your previous health insurance company did you a favor when they dumped you.  With your bad back I sure hope you don't try to use the sliders as you obviously have no business pushing furniture around even if it moves relatively easily.

Mary Ann, you are fortunate that your previous employee still honors its commitment to pay the retiree's health insurance premiums.  I think I is becoming the exception.

Amy, I remember going to the hen house to gather the eggs.  It was not a task I really enjoyed.  We try to keep eggs on hand as we use a lot of them.  I think most towns have one or more Cholesterol Pits and usually their food tastes so good.

June, glad you were up to attending Church yesterday.  I certainly don't disagree with your comments.  When we moved to this house we have mainly hard wood floors and we put little felt pads on all the legs of the furniture and it is not hard to move and that protects the floors.  However, I don't think the floors are quite a easily marred as I thought they might be.  We have the hardwood in the kitchen, which we really dislike, but that is the way it is so will put up with it.  The wood is dark and the least speck shows up on them.

deAngel, glad you were up to leaving us a posting.  Hope today finds you feeling a bit less tired.

Lloyd, five inches of rain in a short time is a lot.  Did you getting flooding around your area.  Your joke sure gave me a laugh.

Jane, hope you enjoyed the Chinese dinner.  Interesting story about watching the little Chinese boy grow up helping out in the restaurant.  We have several Chinese restaurants in our town and we occasionally eat at one of them.  They sure know how to make a lot of dishes with chicken and different sauces.  Like Amy, we also like the Chinese buffets.

Lloyd Hammond

not right here Larry.
we Have two humming bird feeders  hanging on our deck. I set here and watch them a lot. they are like children bickering. there currently 6 0r 8 of them buzzing around. as many of three of them eating at same time on one feeder.
some times they stay in flight and lurch forward and take a sip and sometimes set down and rock back and fourth drinking and they dive bomb each other like kids jumping on each other, it is clouding up again like we may get more of JaneS and hall's rain. Have a great day.
