Larry, regarding answering "fine" when someone asks you how you are - I think it depends on who asks.  Someone close might know of a condition and ask for that reason, while an acquaintance might ask to be polite and you'd answer 'fine'.

Mary Ann

June Drabek

I was awakened this morning again at five something. It was my cell phone ringing. The message was, "your password has been changed, if you did not change it, please notify us." I went back to bed and said "to heck with it". My housekeep woke me at 7 a.m. to change my bed. So I had to start the day whether I wanted to or not.

Larry, my son has A-fib, plus shoulder arthritis. Things one has to live with, and he accepts it. Good person that he is.

My house keeper will be back soon for a deep cleaning so I had better be ready to scoot.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Amy

Mary Ann , you need to tell them you are fine as frogs hair! :)

Where is Shirley??? And Hal and Lloyd???  Guess Hall and Lloyd are still doing chores and Shirley is over seeing the job.

Gloria, hope you are feeling better soon..

Hi Amy and all, iamhere, itookthe wife's car to dealership  for an oil change and tire rotation.  Feltlikeafool,I couldn't get the key out of ignition and had to ask service guy for some help, dumb me I hadn't  taken the car out of drive.....

Mary Ann

June, I also have A-fib and shoulder arthritis, and, yes, you do learn to live with it.

Amy, that ought to start some conversation if I say I'm "fine as frogs hair!"  The response probably would be, "Huh?"

Tom and I went to a Chinese place for lunch today.  They have a $5 luncheon menu, good food and sparse surroundings.  I had chicken and broccoli today.  We eat there about once a month.  It's nice to have a sit-down dinner instead of Subway once in a while.  Their portions are quite large for the money.

Hal, that's like the time I drove to church and wanted to realign the car and couldn't get the shift to move.  After church I asked a man to help me and I had not pressed the brake pedal.  Imagine my embarrassment, and how much worse it would have been if I'd have called for a service truck.  I never forgot that!

Mary Ann

JaneS

I'm home and not nearly as tired as I was on Wednesday.  I had two different express registers for the two halves of my shift today and that worked fine.

About be asked that all-important question, "How are you?"  People in check out lines ask that without even thinking about it and I determined many years ago that I was going to make them take notice.  So when anyone ask me how I am, I always answer "So far, so good!  How about you?"  They always look directly at me and sometimes they say, "Good answer".  Sometimes they say, "Yep, me too, so far, so good". And sometimes they come up with something really different.  But they always look directly at me and make eye contact.  And they always smile!  I like those responses.

Now I'm going to go sit on the porch.  The weather is gorgeous right now.  If it starts raining, I'll come in but if it doesn't, I just might snooze out there.

So far, my day's been pretty good.  I hope yours is the same!

Amy

Jane ,glad you're having a good day. I listened to the sound of music again. :) Did 7 sealers of raspberries and put some in the freezer for later.

Hal, don't feel bad, I stopped in to see how the lawn tractor was and it was ready, so I paid and ate crow at the same time. I hadn't disengaged the blade far enough....live and learn. At least it didn't cost an arm and a let. I told the fellow it was an I - D - 10 -T error and when he frowned at me I said when you write it out it is IDIOT error..

Friend gave us fresh corn and I have hamburgs too to go with supper tonight..will put some in the hidey hole..

Amy, I had one of those ID10T calls too several years ago - I had unplugged my disposal to get something free and when I plugged it back in, the disposal started up automatically.  The outlet is under the sink and it was hard for me to get down to plug it in.  I made a service call and the man plugged it in OK - I could not see what I was doing and put the plug in the lower outlet which was "live".  The top one was dedicated to the disposal only I could not see it.  It cost me $67 to find that out.

Mary Ann

Shirley

I've been on a dead run all day & ready for a nap BUT it's time for cat snacks.  Hot & steamy today, not my kind of weather.   :banghead:

Hal, don't laugh.... when I stopped for gas on my last trip to CO in the Rialta (had been driving it 16 years).... I couldn't get the keys out of the ignition & needed them to get the gas cap off.  Finally a man came over to offer help.... politely mentioned that I neglected to put it in "PARK".   :-[

TomCat is laying on the bed already asleep.... he likes to lean up against the back of my legs.  Tiger is laying on a wrought iron chair in the pool area, she likes having the little round table hide her from the world. Not sure where Callie is right now, she has been strange today, would not come inside for breakfast so I served her on the step in the garage.  She gets her feelings hurt so easy I don't know if she is upset or just wants her space.

I went to the bank to get a new credit card, my old one ended in 6/16 and I hadn't noticed (don't use it).  When I called about it yesterday I checked on whether I could just take my "MUST" take out of the IRA or should wait until end of year.  Told it didn't make any difference so said I'd be there today.  Really is disgusting to have them give me a number I must take out & then what the amount is after they take 15% for state & another 15% for Feds.... 30% is a big bite to donate because we worked & saved "for our old age"..... and in the end we may have well just spent all or not put it away to draw interest.  Ah, well, not a subject I want to think about right now.

Amy, we've had such good corn this year, but no question when it is totally bug free it is full of whatever is used in the seed or sprayed .... and eventually I will get side effects of head aches or tummy aches.  BUT... I had some corn with the bugs in and do not want any more of that!

Oh, NO, Mary Ann..... expensive lesson.

JaneS

For the past two years, my favorite farmer has has a sign out "Sorry, no corn".  This year he has corn again.  He puts it in a very nice, shady spot across from his barn and he has containers that you can leave the shucks in.  So when I get it, I stop and shuck as much as I feel like shucking while I watch the cars waaaay over there and listen to the creek and then I go home, eat what I feel like eating and freeze the rest.  It usually amounts to 3 or 4 doz. ears.  And boy is it every good corn

FINALLY A REPORT FROM JOE, re: our Joan.

Hello All - Here is the latest update on Mom.

Mom is doing much better.  After ~3 weeks at the LTAC at Mobile Infirmary to get her respiratory issues straight, she has been transferred to Eastern Shore Rehabilitation & Health Center in Daphne, which is much closer to us (5 mins vs 45 mins)  She is now focusing on motor skills and strength so that she can return to her own place.

She is not taking calls in her room yet.  If you would like to send a card, you can send to her at our house: 24089 3rd Street, Fairhope, AL 36532.

Another beautiful day is drawing to a close.I am truly tired tonight..up since five a.m. for the second day...another dumb phone call. So it will be an early bed time for me.

I am so thankful Joe gave us an address for his home where we can send messages to our dear lady. And I am extra thankful to hear of her improving health. She has been through so much recently, but she is a strong lady, for sure.

My new red Jitterbug phone is up and running, and as far as I know it is the same number as I had before. Gary has been wonderful at getting it all set up for me. It does more that I will ever use, like take pictures, and it has a speaker phone which could be handy, but I won't go into any more than talk as usual.

I had a huge lunch today and still full, so will eat light tonite. have a great evening and a Blessed night if I don't get back in before bed time.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Morning Everyone!

Cant believe I am on here before others are.

Amy we have had power outages the last couple of days, I saw them working at the end of my street yesterday.  Don't know what the problem is, at any rate it went off again sometime during the night and when it came back on my printer woke my dog up making all its click, clacks and the lights on it coming on.  And of course all the clocks have to be reset.

It is cloudy out as usual here in the mornings, but it is going to be plenty hot today close to the century mark.  Heat index, who cares that is another one of those made up numbers that really has no meaning to me.

Yeah, I am in a kinda grouchy mood.  But it will improve with some coffee, everyone have a great day and don't let anyone spoil it.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, thanks for your concern I am not sick just having a down feeling.  Doing anything on this computer is more like work instead of pleasure.
Like others said about when someone asks -how are you? and we say fine-that is all they want to hear because unless they are family or close friends, no one really wants to know. Of course there are some that will tell you all their problems even if they hardly know you.
Every so often here they paint the apartments. I got a notice yesterday that mine will be one of them this time. We have to get everything out and find a place to stay while it is being done. Yeah, I will move my furniture into the storage room and get myself a place to stay. This manager is nuts. Heck I can just about move my PC chair and that is on wheels. I most likely could stay at older son's but i cannot do the stairs.

HAL  I needed that chuckle this morning. You will never try taking the key out again before making sure it is out of drive.

JANE  so many treat cashiers like a piece of the equipment. I always try to say something to them. My daughter always tries to get them to at least smile.

SHIRLEY  you would have enjoyed yesterday here.  To me it was a perfect summer day. In the upper 70's, low humidity and light breeze. I sat on the porch for a few hours with a book and enjoyed it.

JENNY  thank you for Joe's message.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and about this morning.  I had thought I might go pick red raspberries but I decided not to.

I heard on Friday at work that they had numerous calloffs due to people having the stomach flu.  I've thought it over and I decided that's part of the reason I was so tired Wed. evening.  I've been speninding a lot of time wearing out the carpet between various rooms and the bathroom and just thought it was something I ate.  However, I've been putting 2 and 2 together and I've decided that maybe I've had a touch of the stomach flu.  Thank goodness it wasn't enough to really make me sick but enought to sap my energy and bring on other things.

I hope everyfriend is doing well and enjoying the weekend.  I intend to take it easy and hopefully feel better next week.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It looks like it will be another relatively mild day.  We did have a good rain again last night and there is a possibility of more today.  My only plans for today are to attend a meeting this morning and then will watch the 3rd round of the big golf tournament.   Last evening we did go to a new BBQ place for us and it was good.  It seemed like ti took forever to get there and a much shorter time to get back home.  I guess that is always the case when you are not sure where something is.  I did see it as we drove by but had to find a place to turn around and come back to it.  Unfortunately their A/C had gone out yesterday and it was quite warm in the restaurant although they had fans running.

We had a very unexpected event happen yesterday as a coffee friend and fellow Church member called me saying he was going to bring over his dehumidifier for us to try for a few days.  I had mentioned at coffee on Thursday the problem we were having with very high humidity in our house.  It wasn't long became he drove in and unloaded it and brought it into the house.  It is working like a charm. He will pick it up on Tuesday and in the meantime I will be ordering one for us to use permanently.  They now have them with pumps built in so you can drain the water into a sink through a small hose and not have to empty a tank.  It really brought the humidity down in the house but Pat turned it off when she came to bed so it let the humidity rise again during the night so have to basically start again.  This should solve our humidity problem.

June, I sure wouldn't appreciate a call like you had with that type of message so early in the morning.  It sounds like some days get started before we are ready for them to start with things beyond our control.

Amy, another new expression for me regarding the frogs hair.

Hal, like you and several others have mentioned yesterday, I have also done some silly things.  One time I had turned the steering wheel getting into the car, which had locked it, and I had to call for help and all I needed to do was turn in hard and it unlocked.  My PT Crusier has a button that must be pushed to remove the key and I didn't know about this feature initially.  On my Hyundai I have also tried to take out the ignition key when the car wasn't in park.  That is a very good safety feature.

Jane, nice you get a less tiring day at work occasionally.  I also sometimes us the "so far, so good" response.  I always try to say a little something to cashiers or the door greeters at Walmart even if it is just a comment about the weather.

Amy, glad your lawnmower didn't have a serious problem.  These human errors do occur because we are human.   You can't beat fresh corn and that goes well with hamburgers.  We are having some ear corn for dinner tonight but don't know if it will be with hamburgers or not as Pat hasn't said what she has in mind.

Shirley, our IRA money that must be withdrawn after age 70 1/2 was not taxed money and so all amount withdrawn are taxed.  If the money taken from a savings account or investment instrument has already been taxed at the time of the investment then only the interest part of the withdrawal is taxable.  You probably know this already but it is easy to forget and sort of a shock at tax time.

Jane, do you just put money in a bucket at the farmer's stand?  For years a coffee drinking friend where I lived had big gardens and sold his produce under a big tree in his front yard.  If he wasn't there you just selected when you wanted, add up the amount due, and place your money in a bucket he had provided for that purpose.  It was an honor system and he had many long term customers.  He never indicated any problems with people not paying.  Sure hope you get to feeling good again over the weekend.

Jenny, great to read that Joan is improving.  Glad she is now closer to your family.

June, I find the speaker feature on my phone is useful if I am talking to someone and need both hands free to use the computer.  It is also fun to take pictures of beautiful flowers or animals or special events with friends.

Hal, hope your grouchy mood was removed with that cup of coffee.  Not good to have a grouchy day around our wives.  :)

Gloria, are you saying your must remove your things from your apartment for the painting?  I would think that would be impossible for a lot of the residents. At least you have a place to stay and sons to do whatever moving is needed.  It sounds like you had a great day yesterday, weatherwise.

Carol

Hal:  We have had underground power in our last two homes and never any outage. One son lived in an old Denver neighborhood with huge trees and he would lose power for sometimes days.  He moved eventually.

JaneS:  You have so much contact with people - it must have been the flu.  Glad you are feeling alright.  We always get our flu shots early in September.  It seems to help.

It is lonesome without a dog in this house.  But - we know it isn't rational for us to take on a pet.

I am having my coffee with cream - after my other morning elixir for health.  I drink that glass of drugged water  fast because it tastes awful.  My reward is to have a cup of coffee right away with chocolate creamer.  Hooray for chocolate!!!

Statement and question. one of my grandsons Is half bread, his mother is full blood Navajo and his dad (all mixed breads as I am). He is soon to be Married.
He is marring a full bread french girl. they say they have to have three separate ceremonies to be legal. traditional , Navajo tribe , and french weeding.

I would like to go to there wedding but don't think I could set through that.
I would think they would be so wore out they could  not be able t consummate there weeding. just thinking about that wore me out.

Larry, the coffee worked, in a much better mood.

Carrol, we have underground utilities, but it certainly hasn't stopped our power outages.  Maybe not as many as some parts of town, but enough.

Gloria, do you have to furnish the manpower to move your furniture?  What if you can't afford it or no place to stay.  Sounds like poor planning on your landlords part.

Lloyd, just don't think about it....  lol

JaneS

LARRY, the farmer with the corn stand is on the road that ends at the Penitentiary so not much real traffic past there.  He has a box attached to the stand and the box is padlocked.  But he does have to trust people to pay for what they take.  I don't know if anyone takes without paying but if they do they are not from around here.  There are numerous farm stands with payment boxes and I don't think they would be there if people weren't honest enough to pay.  This is the COUNTRY.  Lots of farms and lots of Amish.  And lots of people who've lived here most of their lives.

Yippieee power came back on.....so nice that we didn't have to wait till 2 pm!!!
Neighbour brought our lawnmower back and while they were here I clipped his dogs nails.

We bought 3 lights that you plug in and they have a motion sensor and when the power goes out you can use it for a flashlight for 3 1/2 hours....they would put to use last night. Picked them up at Costco and then bought two more packages for Christmas gifts but ended up giving one pkg to the neighbour as we are to have another storm today.
Glad to hear the news on Joan but can't wait till she is able to come in here.

Jane, we have on your honor here at different places, one for camp fire wood and veggies too. I haven't heard of anyone abusing the system either.

Gloria, wish I lived closer I would give you a hand.

Need to get my laundry done before another hiccup in power happens.

Sorry for all the power outages.  They are a nuisance and sometimes dangerous.  We always had back-up power in our house because dad sold and installed diesel generators - some for fishermen and some for hospitals and university buildings.  Gotta have diesel on hand.  Truly believe in having some solar too.

Jenny:  Such a pleasant surprise that you know Ralph and Kathleen.  We need to plan a meeting of the minds.  I have been to W C to visit a friend but never have taken the tour.

Gloria:  Good luck with the busy day at your apartment!  Don't lift anything - let everyone else do the work.

June Drabek

Hal, I am not fit for man nor beast today. I feel a complete failure in all areas and can't understand why I'm even living and breathing. No good for anything. My third night of a very poor sleep, so I'm not really here. May God forgive me.

Since new lovely cell phone is all up and running, I was told to not charge my old one and just let it die. I did. At one a.m. a beeping woke me out of a nice deep sleep. When it happened again, I realized it was my old cell phone telling me it was dying and needed to be re-charged. I said "sorry" and tried to return to sleep. Nope…beeping started again. Instead of getting my sluggish body out of bed and hiding the phone in a closet, I let it cry for what seemed like another hour, and by that time I was wide awake. So got up and tried to fit the new insoles into my shoes..impossible.
So that is my second failure in ordering on line for something I can't use. Really a third failure, but I'm using it even though it isn't what I wanted. Now I am afraid to order on line anymore.

I am calling this a "sick" day and just staying home and being angry at me.

Gloria, my dear friend. It sounds like you and I and Hal all got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning. At least I feel better knowing a am not alone. They say misery loves company. It does help, but I hope we all pull out of it eventually. I think your manager must be nuts !!!!!! You need a group of like minded residents to get together and complain to the owner of your place. Tell both of your sons what is being asked of you and the others. I think if it comes down to  the finish line, you need a good lawyer.

Janie….join todays crowd of complainers. At least you have a good logical reason for being "down". You really are physically ill. Hope it goes away quickly dear one.

Larry, I am very thrilled with my new Jitterbug, and hopefully will be able to learn how to use all the benefits it offers. Today is not the day though. My mind is a huge blank. I'm so happy the dehumidifier is what you both needed. You will get used the sound it makes eventually, new sounds do disturb at first.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June, believe me when I tell you that you are not useless and all the other things you said.  To us you are a pot of gold and worth a lot more.  I am in a much better mood this afternoon.  I did get some checks ordered and a little ticked off at the price they charge for them.  I checked with my bank first and hold smokes they wanted an arm and leg so l settled on WalMart check printing service and it was high enough.
