Mary Ann, we used to eat tomatoes right out of the garden like others ate apples.  I don't do that now.  I never liked asparagus and I still don't.  I know that because I keep trying it when it's offered and I don't like the taste.  I've often wondered if it can be eaten raw because it's the cooked texture that I really don't care for.  And my dad was the best cook that ever cooked up a mess of asparagus.  I know that because my mother said so.

As for rhubarb, we used to go out and cut off a stalk and dunk it in sugar and eat it just like that.  I don't know if I liked it that way or if I just ate it to be part of the crowd.  I really don't like the taste of it now so I don't eat it.

I'm really craving a cup of coffee right now so I think I'll go make one.  If I don't sleep tonight, it's my own fault.  But it doesn't usually keep me awake.

O.K. Gang, look alive ! This cat has been our roaming the grounds if broad day light, and now you are all about nodding off for the nights. Well, gues what ?? I am pooped too, but I lived up to my promises to myself. I went to the library, then for a walk, the to gab with other residents, sat and listened to a guy plunk on our piano keys, then off to lunch down stairs. Took another walk, came home and kicked back in the recliner to read, and before my eyes could close I had to go back downstairs for Balance and mobillty class. I have been in three times to read your messages and got some chuckles but time disappears so I had to fix some leftovers for my supper. That is done. Dishes are clean and draining and I am here. Pooped. Looking forward to bed and book and content in that I lived up to what I needed to do to come alive again. In my former life I would go out for another walk, but I'm not going to push my luck. I really love being here with all of you, and looking forward to morning where we can start all over again.God is with us, and I feel His smiles,so sleep peacefully my dear hearts. I love you so much. June

Well!  This was a good day of reporting and I'm proud of all of you.  You jumped right in and saved Verna and Eloise's jobs for them and now a lot of people won't go hungry.  Keep up the good work.

Good Night Everyfriend and than you for putting up with the craziness.  It's how I deal with adversity and this was threatening to become adversity.  That crazy lady will be back when she's needed.  In the meantime, may God grant you peace and blessings.

One last check in to see how everyone is doing.

Welcome back, CAROL.  I have thought about you and Don several times and hoped you were having a wonderful time.

Yes, JOY, you are correct, I am hoping to hear from SHIRLEY and to be able to met up wth her soon.

No apologies needed, JANE.  I look forward to having Eloise join me tomorrow to help me get my place up to speed.  I totally understand that we can not possibly comment on everyone's posts in detail, and I did not mean to be pointing fingers....I was just acknowledging that at times I am too long winded, and do not want to wear out my welcome.

JUNE, your day sounded delightful and I am so proud of you for pushing yourself to do all the things that you enjoy doing so much.  You will sleep well tonight, I am sure.

I love tomatoes and definitely can eat them the same as eating apples.  Right now we are nearing the end of our extremely tasty tomatoes for the season.  I sure have been enjoying them.  We did not even attempt to grow tomatoes or anything this summer.  The last couple of summers have been quite disappointing, so just said no to even trying this year.   Sadly, we do not have nice fresh fruit and veggies to buy from the growers in stands like many of you do.  We have farmers markets all over town but I find them disappointing for the most part.   We can get Colorado grown veggies and fruits in the supermarkets so I tend to just do that.

We are getting a new fence, so this week two men have been tearing out the old one.  It is very slow progress.....the two of them stand around and chat and dance around...then they do a bit of work...then they disappear....at this rate I think the snow flakes will be falling before they even get the old fence torn out.

I am going to say good night.....  Our PBS channel has been show Great Continental Railway Journeys.....first one was in Spain and now Isreal.  They are most enjoyable, so I am having trouble concentrating on both this and watching the show.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.  I shall not turn off the lights anymore as we now must let our ladies do their jobs.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Verna tells me that Eloise turned off the lights when she finished cleaning last evening and She turned them back on this morning.  The coffee's ready and I'm having mine on the patio.  Anyone who cares to join me is welcome.

Our temps got into the 60s overnight and are supposed to get to the high 70s today.  This is my kind of day!  And we'ere supposed to have this weather for the next week.  I can take that.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  I'm on a little earlier than usual today....8:30 so I'll also be finished a little earlier than usual.  That's fine with me!  Make your day exactly what you want it to be.  June did that yesterday!

Jenny, I hope you and Eloise get everything finished today.  She said she might have to bring Grandma along.  Maybe you can give her some easy chores to do.

I have a interesting point. My grand daughter logged in and fixed some problems on my computer from her work. goggle sent me a email asking was it me and telling me what was done. I clicked the proper answer and it said ok ans sighend off.  what a deal.

Joy

Good morning.  Hi to Amy, Lloyd ,  Jane and all the other Friends !

Just having my breakfast after being up for a couple hours.  I baked some little cinnamon pinwheels and having my Greek yogurt with bananas.

I did do a little straightening up while waiting.  I am going to try to get a few things  up off the floor in my pantry and sweep up the rest of the pasta.  And, put some containers that I have been saving in the recycling bag. I  like to save the nicer containers when I get carry-out but they tend to multiply rather quickly.

It will give me a little bit more room.

It is a real pretty sunny morning out my window.  I think it is supposed to be up in the high 70's  for the rest of the week end.  They keep predicting showers, but so far,  my area has not seen any of them.

I have a doctor's appointment at 4:30 and my DIL just called to tell me she would pick me up at 3:30.  It is takes about 20 min. to get there,  but I like to be early.  I am sure I will be the last patient today, so if I am a little early, might even get out sooner,.  I am sure by that time on a Friday afternoon, they are all anxious to leave.  Don't have any real issues, so shouldn't take long.  Go over the blood work I had last Sat.  This doctor doesn't stay around long to chat. He is in and out.

Amy, I am sure you will find some things at the Mennonite market that you just can't do without.  LOL   We have several Amish markets around, and I can't ever get out without spending more than I planned.  All the produce always looks so good.  Do Mennonite's pretty much follow the same hours as the Amish do.... Not open on Sundays and do they offer a Senior's Day where you get a discount???   I love to look at the quilts when I do go.  They do such beautiful work and I love all the rich colors in their quilts.

Need to get myself moving.  Have a few things to do before I get ready to got out.

Have a wonderful, peaceful day.

Hi everyone. It is a beautiful sunny morning and we are headed up into the high 80's this afternoon.  The main activity for today is to do some grocery shopping at Costco and perhaps Aldi's, although Aldi's may wait until tomorrow.  I did go to coffee and the Wisdom Group yesterday but was so tired when I got home that I skipped lunch and laid down and rested.  Last evening the weariness seemed to leave and I am feeling good this morning.

Jane, it sounds like Walmart wants it all, careful bagging but still saving on bags.  Whoever has the contract to supply those bags to Walmart must be getting very rich.  :)  What you described makes a lot of sense.

Amy, do you make Harvard beets? I like one or two slices of beets on a salad.

Joy, glad your DIL helped clean up the pasta and helped put away your groceries.  What type of dancing does your DIL do?  I have always liked the old radio shows where one had to use their imagination such as when Fibber McGee opened the closet for Jack Benny accessed he vault or Rochester started up the Maxwell.  One of my coffee drinking friends has that old horn sound of the Maxwell as his ringtone on his phone and every time I hear it I recall Jack Benny. I think I found the dust pan and little broom as the dollar store and so far it was worked perfectly.  Your postings are certainly not too long (written by someone who knows a thing or two about writing long postings).  :)

Jenny, I always feel if a person gets tired of reading what I have written they can just scroll on through it.  I also need music in my life everyday and am listening to it as I write.

Gloria, it sounds like your apartment manager's power has gone to her head.  Tenants shouldn't have to fear management.

deAngel, it sounds like if you still lived in Charleston and in the same location you definitely would have had a problem.  Did your Nephew ever come to see you?  I don't remember your mentioning it.

Pat is getting in the car to head for Costco so will be back tomorrow.

Carol

I had not heard about Charleston being under water.  We were there for two days while Don was interviewing and it was such a lovely experience.

Jane S:  We did have a great visit over the entire two weeks and now quite a few friends/relatives want to visit us.  Hopefully, not all at once :D

Lloyd:  Isn't it interesting that your daughter could handle your computer issue from another place?  Nice - a bit spooky too.

Don is up - he still sounds gravely in his voice and is taking Amoxicillin for the beginning of a cold.

Jenny:  Thanks for the welcome!  Is Shirley coming to Denver?

Amy:  I am measuring the never-ending quilt and may have to buy more fabric for the tops and bottom - it is at least a twin size now - perhaps making it full size just so I can handle the fabric - g-daughter is still in university.  The very last part of this pattern is missing - of course!

Joy:  Best wishes for a good check-up!

Carol, I think the flooding is mainly in the area of the downtown from what I have heard as the storm surge came over the sea wall.  The news leads us to believe that everything is flooded or destroyed and that is usually not the case.

We had a good and fairly quick trip to Costco.  We were both able to get riding carts and that made it go much more quickly.  Plus I have been there enough to know basically where the things we generally buy are located.  It was the getting it out of the truck and into the kitchen and stored that was the more difficult task.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, looks like we will get Jose here from what I just saw on TV. That "cone" they show covers the whole state. Of course it does not take much to cover all of Rhode Island.

CAROL  good seeing you back. Hope you enjoyedl all the visiting.

MARY ANN  you and I differ with tomatoes. I cannot get enough of local ones is season. I will eat one like it was a peach or an apple and then a BLT or just a tomato sandwich.

JANE  the season of local tomatoes is too short for me. Sure we can buy tomatoes all years now but the taste is nothing like local summer ones. I never put tomatoes in the fridge, changes the taste of them and I never keep them long enough to go bad. Did Shirley head to the mountains?

AMY  yesterday my daughter was making her first batch of zucchini relish for this year.

GLORIA de  I had my AC on all night, we had some rain and it was very humid. I am not ready for the clothes change over yet but will need my CNA to help me.

JANE  when I used to do a lot of canning we would go pick bushels of tomatoes for  .50censt a bushel and I would eat almost as many as what went in the basket. Like you I keep trying asparagus but it still tastes like eating grass to me. I still love rhubarb especially as a pie-no strawberries.

JUNE  nothing like getting outside into fresh air and chatting with others.

JENNY  I have been lucky with both sons bringing me tomatoes from their gardens. They do know me quite well.

My CNA just got here so I will say bye for now.

Thank you, Carol.  I am not anticipating any big problems.

Larry,  my daughter-in-law does clogging dancing.  She used to be with a group called the Green Grass Cloggers when she lived in Asheville N.C. a long time ago.  The group traveled to different foreign countries sponsored by the State Department.  She is a physical therapist and was 63 in April.  She is waiting anxiously to retire.   She and my son have been married 16 years. The met through mutual friends a few years before they were married.  It was the first marriage for both of them.  My son is 59.

Here is a link to one of their videos from way back.  She is the one with the red dress and long brown hair.  She still goes to  several of the Fiddler COnventions down in the Asheville area several times a year and still can dance great.  The video is a little blurry, but you can get the idea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2sKyLAgmJo

I would love to go to one of the festivals.  I have seen her dance at different wedding receptions that we have gone to.  They usually will play something that she can dance to.  My son goes along sometimes, but he never got into the dancing.

Good Morning, I was awakened  about 4:30 for a blood draw. Same Nurse that messed up my hand last week. This time she tried the right arm, was not happy with that so found a happy vein  on the left arm.All went well but could not go back to sleep so a nap is waiting for me around early afternoon.

My darling Dori daughter is leaving for a weekend retreat in our local Mt.s. I am praying for a happy renewal rest for this girl who spends 90 percent of her life doing good things for others.

I plan to go back at re-read your messages and comment, but at the moment, my eyes want to close in "catch-up' sleep, so rather than give in I will go see if a walk outside will wake me up.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good afternoon, Another beautiful day.  We are now in the 80's the next couple of days.  Tuesday Jose is suppose to be off shore of us.

Carol, I had heard on Tv that the water had come up way over the BAttery in Charleston.  I was married in Charleston, would have been 72 years this Oct. 12th.  My husband was from Ala.

Larry, I still say I have a Fibber McGee draw in the kitchen.  I keep threatening to clean it one of these days.  My Jane will send me the help. When I was growing up we would set around the radio and listen to all those good show.  Sunday was always a good night.  One of my favorite was: I love a Mystery.  i still listen to the radio at night when I am here visiting all my friends in cyber land.  I watch GMA in the morning, then some of the old game shows.  About 10 when I go to bed I put the TV on and while I am reading have Johnny Carson's old show on.  I turn it off about 1.

June, you really did a lot yesterday. good for you.

By the way, yes Larry my nephew came out and spent a few days, and did some things around here, plus plant dome fall  flowers out in the yard where I could see them.  My friend in Naple, heard that her place is still stand, she did lose her sunporch, but the house looks good. As for there boat they have heard nothing, they are going down in Oct.

Joy, I have always enjoyed the clog dancing. I was still teaching line dancing into the late 80's.  I taught at the Senior Center, one of the other senior parks and of course here in our park.

Jenny, I spent two beautiful weeks in Colorado Springs about 25 years ago.  One of my coworkers retired there and had invited me out to visit here.

I'm home from work and I've had lunch and the doggies have had their snack.  The sofa is hollering my name and, unlike JUNE, I plan to answer very soon.

JOY, I loved the dancers and your DIL is very good.  I went to a festival  in West VA once when my daughter was a student there and they had cloggers.  They were good, too but that's a great video!

Carol, I'm looking forward to seeing your finished quilt.  Do you think I'll live long enough?  Not asking you to hurry...just wondering!

I don't know how many of you are on Face book and I don't know how soon it might happen but they took some pictures of me at my station this morning and they said that they might appear on WM's facebook website.  If you happen to see an old lady grinning like a cheshire cat while she's helping customers, it just might be me.  They made me laugh every time they aimed the camera at me.

Now I'm going to go get a cold drink and see what the sofa wants.  It's driving me crazy with it's hollering!

Gloria de, Eloise will be right over to dump your junk drawer!  If she can't come, I'll send my daughter, Cathy.  She's great at that...hates clutter!  I wonder where she got that?

Joy, that looked like a lot of fun.  I doubt I ever could have danced non-stop like they did.

Jane, I'm sorry, but whatever font you used, please go back to what you had.  What  you had is not easy on old eyes.

I see where we are to be in the 80s for at least a week.

I always have some background noise; if it isn't NPR radio then it is Music Choice on TV.  Light classical.

June Drabek

Janie, your last post was nearly unreadable to my eyes.

I took myself out for a refreshing walk, sat back in a recliner and nearly fell asleep so guess I will have to give in and have a nap after I go back down for lunch. Then hopefully I can stir the bears a bit. Nothing else exciting on our menu here. We are having some lovely white clouds floating around to keep us cool. No rain in sight though, boo hoo.

Just got in..... it has been a very busy day.  Eloise and grandma were here and boy did we get a lot done.  Grandma and I chatted a lot, so Eloise did most of the tidying up.  They are back in the SS now.  That Eloise does have some times she is available, so if any of you are in need, be sure to hire her as she does good work and was quite reasonable.  I gave her almost double the amount though, as she is in need and works very hard.

JANE, keep us posted as I do want the see your picture on the Walmart  web site.  I already know what you look like but I want to see you grinning like the old Cheshire Cat❣️

SHIRLEY will not be coming to Denver, CARPL.  She and her son are staying up N of Salida when they are here.  I have not heard from her, but I will keep you posted if I do.  Sure wish we could all get together.

LLOYD, speaking of something that I sure would have liked to have done is join you last night for that chicken dinner!  Yummy.

JOY, I really enjoyed watching your DIL.  Thank you for sharing.  Hope the doc appointment goes well and you get out of there quickly with no issues at all.

They fence men were here again this morning....they pulled one fence pole out and that was it.  Now we have a big hole that exposed that is worrying me.  If someone walks through back there it would be very bad.  Bob is going to find something to put in it.  A guy came around to cut a few branches off a tree that was leaning on our house and one at the neighbors.....Bob asked him how much he would charge us to cut some dead limbs out of our tree just off our patio.  Expensive, but it needed to be done.  The HOA will only pay for trees that are a hazard to a roof....no maintenance.  Big mistake on their part.  Keeping trees pruned is so important to the health of the tree and we have a lot of trees that sure could use it.

LARRY, something came in my email about a new sound bar for our TV and I just had to splurge and order it.  We have tried many sound bars and none have met up to our expectations.  It is from Costco, so if it is not what we like we can return it, no questions asked.  Love that about COSTCO.  I listen to music through our current system and love it, so I hope this new one will be good.

Well now that the house is in order, the tree is trimmed and Bob has filled the hole, I think I will jump in the shower and we are going to go out for a early dinner.  I am in the market for fish, and I like what they serve at the Golden Coral on Fridays.  If we go before 4 PM, we get it for a fair price.  Fried fish is not good for the waste line, but it sure is tasty.

Enjoy the rest of your afternoon, EVERYFRIEND!

Poof, another day on the way out. Picked up peaches at the market plus stopped and picked up 2 more cases of jars. I did manage to get 2 batches of peach jam done  and the kitchen floor washed..mercy someone was messy in there!! The grocery store also had carrots and onions on sale 10 lbs for 1.97 each so  brought a bag of each home and took half of each to the neighbour. We both had fried onions tonight along with carrots, potatoes, and roast beef.

Gloria, I also enjoy zucchini relish.I have enough from last year so got off the hook from making it again this year.

Carol.....there are some quilts that one just can not get done fast enough so we can move on to another. There is a fabric sale coming up next week for 8 days 33% off  cotton.

Larry, no I haven't made Harvard beets......yet.. :)

Thanks, Jane, for fixing that post, however, I had managed to read it as it was - and 'twasn't easy.

I went down for a tasty lunch with a fun group of friends. One couple is new and they really like it here.  I had a huge b.l.t. after slurping up a cup of soup and some v-8 juice. Brought half my b.l.t. home which I will soon have for my supper. I did fall asleep for a long nap after lunch, and didn't want to wake up. Thank goodness there are no tests scheduled for tomorrow morning, so I can get back in the daily routine again.

Lloyd, I do hope that with all the blood we folks have taken out of us it isn't just washed down the drain. I wonder if they can make plasma with it. I'll have to look that up to satisfy my own curiosity.

Jenny, do enjoy your fish dinner. We have a place called Long John Silver and we used to go there frequently when I still had a husband.  I liked they cooking. I'm glad your Bob is still able to fill in post holes. That could be a serious problem.

It's nigh onto six p.m. so I had better go arrange my plate of supper.  I did have a good walk after my long nap, but the eyes are still asking for more sleep, so it will be an early night for me.

Keep well dear hearts and we will meet again on the morrow, if not sooner. Love you all. June
