OK, I'm going to be heading off to bed pretty soon so I'll bid you all a very Good NIGHT.  Stay as long as you like.  Verna will turn out the lights.

Oh, and someone please tell Eloise I spilled my ice tea over there by that blue chair.  I looked of a rag and then I remember she needs the job.

JaneS, don't blame me for poor business, I offered to buy breakfast this morning and didn't get a single taker.  I must have don't something wrong.

Nite all, God bless and sweetdreams.

AMY 62 years ago I gave up drinking any thing that would make me stagier and fall. I was eighteen years of age at that time. I was in the status you are referring to and wrecked a boat and totaled it. it was not my boat and i had to
have it rebuilt to coast of two thousand eight hundred $ and some change.
I quit drinking and smoking and chewing tobacco all same day but still sometimes i let loose with swear words not becoming of a good man. I think
you would a temper causing that. but i mostly have that problem under control. as you know only one is perfect I try but am not even a close second. hope to see you all tomorrow good night and sweet dreams.

Janie, I spilled a whole bowl of cottage cheese on the carpet in front of my sink today. Who is Verna and Eloise ???? and where were they when I needed them. I did get it cleaned up all by my creaky old self but it wasn't easy. I could have called maintenance but I wouldn't want them to know way a slob I was.

Hal, I don;t know where you found my picture but it must have been a really old one. I can't find anyone to do that for me anymore. I'll join you for breakfast tomorrow Hal...I am busy turing over a new leaf.

Mycheal, at least my threats got you out to post with us. Where have you been hiding, and what is new from your corner of Iowa ?

Janie, I couldn't locate anyone named Verna, so I'll take care of the light. sleep well my friend. Prayers, Hugs, Love and God's very best Blessings to all. June.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning Amy and Lloyd and especially Jane. when you come in.

Jane, you gave me a good laugh with your group of Soda Shoppe workers and especially about the one who spilled something on the floor.

Before I went to bed last night, I was putting something back into my pantry and a box fell off the shelf spilling all of the pasta that was in it.  I didn't realize there was an opened box in there.,  I heard it all spilling onto the floor.  I went to bed and left it there for me to clean up this morning.  Unfortunately, none of the workers were around.

First, before I do anything, I have to go down to take my grocery bags to give to my DIL, who is picking up my online grocery order from Walmart.   They pack everything in plastic bags, sometime with only 1 item in a bag.  She will transfer some of the things into my cloth grocery bags and it makes it easier to carry when she brings it all back.  My pick-up order time is between 8 and 9,  so, she is stopping by about 7:45.

But, I just wanted to say Good Morning, before I need to start my day.

Looks like it is going to be a cloudy day, so since I am up a lot earlier than usual, I am sure a nap will show up sooner or later.,

I will try to check back later.  Have a great day.

Well, what a nice surprise to come in here this morning and see some friends.  I guess you are all willing to help save Verna and Eloise's jobs.  Look over there!  I think Eloise brought the twins along to work this morning.  Aren't they adorable!

I was up at my usual time this morning but Mickie and I decided to wait out Annie's pill on the sofa.  There were a bunch of zzzs there that needed cleaning up.  Now we're here with our coffee and don't tell Hal but we raided his kitchen and had a bagel while we waited for him to get up.  When he gets here, he can buy us a REAL breakfast.

Today I have nothing planned except for a trip to the Pet Store to replenish our supply of kibble for the doggies snack time.  And since the bank is on the way, I'm going to stop by for a "wallet refill".  Then this afternoon, is my time with TLH.  I'll be picking her up at the bus and then we'll stop at the library.  We both enjoy that.

In the meantime, I'll do my crossword puzzle, my word jumble and a couple of quick card games while I have a second cup of coffee.  I wish you all a great day!  Grab it and make it yours!

JUNE, Eloise apologized for not noticing the cottage cheese and she promised to be more alert!

JOY, she said if the spaghetti is still there, she'll be right over!

Good Morning Everyone!

Holy smokes, I am a sleepy head this morning, everyone was up and talking away before I was up and about.  It takes me a while to do my morning task, get the coffee on and start the old puter, it is slow like me, then read over everything, emails and the forum.

June, Lloyd and Janie, anytime I will be happy to treat you to a breakfast or anyone else that shows up.

I read this article last night, it is pretty long, but well worth the time.  This Patrolman is a true hero in every sense of the word.

I see Amy is on the run straight out of the box this morning.  Hope she doesn't hit any icy patches along the way.

Joy, you sound like me sometimes, I just look at something and say, it will be there tomorrow.  Pasta is the pits to pickup.

Everyone have a great day.

Hi everyone. After some rain late last evening we start today seeing the sunshine and it is suppose to be nice all day.  In a little while I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee and then I hope to attend the Wisdom Group at the Church after taking my friend home.

Gloria, these storms like Irma are so big they defy our imaginations.  This one has dumped huge amounts of rain throughout many States. I don't understand the logic of the pipes freezing if you had the window cracked.  Wouldn't heat still be radiating through the pipes which would keep them from freezing?  I must be missing something.

Jane, you are too much!  I loved your thoughts on our staff here in the Soda Shoppe.  I have noticed the postings seem to be down a bit in all three discussions I follow each day.  Glad you didn't have to stand idly at your register when there weren't many customers.  It seems time goes so slowly when we are not keeping busy.

Amy, one can't buy many things of quantity anymore for $1.97.  I hope you found some fresh pears.  We haven't had any pears this year and will have to look for some when we go to Costco as they have very good quality fruit.

Mary Ann, our dishwasher is less than 3 years old and it does have a strainer that just snaps out.

June, you know we are not going to ignore you and it is always good to see your posting.  We all mess up on occasion and the truth of the matter is that most other people could care less and it really isn't any of their business if they do mind. As Jane said Eloise needs the work so doesn't mind cleaning up if we spill something.

mycheal, I like your philosophy of life and try to make it mine as well.

Hal, I didn't see your offer before I had eaten my breakfast but thanks for the invite.

Lloyd, isn't it good that our maker doesn't expect us to be perfect but we can be forgiven of our failings.  You certainly paid a high price at a young age but learned a valuable lesson.

Joy, I have wondered by they often put only one item in a bag when they fill the Walmart grocery order.  I suppose it is easier for them to check to see that all items in an order have been gathered than if a sack has multiply items in it.  We sure don't run out of plastic bags for our small trash cans with all of those plastic bags.  When we moved into this house I bought a little broom and very lightweight dust pan with a tall handle so we don't have to stump over to use it.  We keep them handy in our pantry and it makes picking up things from the floor much easier. You can now place an order before 11 am and pick it up the same day as long as four hours have passed.

JaneS

Thanks Everyfriend for putting up with the mild ravings of a slight lunatic.  I do not want this forum to disappear and if I need to poke you all now and then, that's what I'll do.

LARRY (and anyone else who is curious)....maybe I can shed some light on why the bags have few items in them.  There is a training video that everyone has to watch when they've been hired and most of us have to watch an update regularly.  It pertains to what kind of items can be bagged together and what to NEVER bag together.  Most of us tend to be very scrupulous about following the rules because if someone complains, that goes on our record and comes up in our evaluations.

One does not bag any chemicals with food or clothing items and some chemicals cannot be bagged together.  You NEVER put a food item in with clothing and nothing heavy can go on top of anything else that might be affected.  There are so many rules that it boggles the mind.  One time I had a customer check out with 6 items....a large package of hot dogs, a package of rolls, a bottle of motor oil, a bag of pool chemicals, a tee shirt and a flowering plant.  6 items, 6 bags.  Sometimes it gets frustrating because they tell us to be thrifty and careful and to be both is difficult.

Now that's probably more information than any of you wanted but there you have it.

It is only a little past 10 a.m. here in the east, and I have all my groceries put away .

My daughter-in-law stayed around and helped unload the bags while I was putting away the cold things.   I mentioned about spilling the box of pasta, and she looked and said it wasn't that much, so she pulled out a couple things that were on the floor, grabbed the broom and dust pan and had it all swept up in a couple minutes and things put back in place.  I didn't really want her to do it, but was grateful that she did.  She was off today as she and my son are leaving tomorrow for N.C. for a reunion of the dance group that she danced with some time ago.  She still goes to a lot of festivals and things that the group has and still can dance like she did 20 years ago.  So, I know she wanted to get home and get things ready to leave.

So, Jane, hopefully because my DIL cleaned up the spaghetti, I hope that doesn't mean Eloise will lose her job.   We can just pretend that Eliose got there first and got most of it up.  Thanks, Eloise .

And, also, Jane,  I like your little bit of fun of pretending.  I still like "pretend" things to do. Years ago, there was a radio show called "Let's Pretend" and that was one of my favorite radio shows way, way back then. I can still hear the little song they played at the beginning of the show.

Larry, I, too, have one of those long-handled dust pans.  And, it is a lot easier to pick things up that way.  But, my handle keeps falling off and I have glued it several times, but it just doesn't seem to hold very long.

I am just eating some Greek yogurt with bananas for breakfast.  I really didn't have anything good until my order arrived.  Looking forward to a braunsweiger  sandwich for my lunch.  That was my favorite sandwich when I was going to school and haven't  had any for a long time.  Mustard and pickles included.

Since I was up early, my bed is already made, I am dressed for the day, and just a few little things to do in the kitchen.  Looks like the sun is trying to come out, although they are still calling for showers.  That has been the forecast all week, but so far, we haven't seen any.  Might get to sit outside a little bit this afternoon, as it is supposed to warm up quite a bit and be near 80 for the week end.  I will take that anyday.

Guess I will go check out the other boards that I read everyday.  Have a great day.

Amy,  I just had to pop back in and make a comment to you about "your love reading my posts".   I always worry about "writing a novel" before I realize how much I have written.  I just do seem to get carried away.  And, so many times,  I am sure I get repetitive.  I just write what comes to mind.  I sure don't think I have a very exciting life.  But, I am happy that you like what I write.  Thanks for your nice comments.

Here I go again........

Jane, thanks for your detailed information about how the grocery bags are packed.  Yes, I am aware about how items must be separated.  My husband was in the grocery business for over 35 years.  He started out in being a bagger for A & P and several other grocery stores, graduated to a checker and then finally finished his grocery business days working for H. J. Heinz as a salesman and ending as an account executive and retired after 30 + years.   He used to do most of the grocery shopping, as I hated it. And, one of his biggest complaint was the kids they hired didn't know how to bag.  Most of the time, he bagged his own groceries because of that.  I do know that Walmart is very good about separating things, but a lot of the other grocery stores are not as particular.  I have found bread and eggs at the bottom of the bag with a bag of potatoes on top along with various other heavy items.

When my DIL picks up my order I give her my cloth bags and she will try to condense some of the plastic bags.  I don't mind the plastic bags, as she usually takes them all with her to use when she empties the cat littler pans.  So, they do get recycled.

But, you explained their system very well.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND!

Nice to read all the posts and the chuckles that I get as I am reading them.

JOY, I too, enjoy your nice posts and understand that at times we feel we are a bit too chatty!  Many times only one person will comment on what I have said, making me wonder if I am boring everyone to death!  I personally enjoy ALL the details and that is what makes our group so special as we all feel like family here.  Sure glad you had help picking up that spilled pasta!

JANE, you are too cute!  I am feeling so guilty for being part of the crew you are speaking to!  I will do my best to participate as much as possible as I sure do not want to loose Eloise and Verna!  Maybe we all can leave them a tip or two to help out with the expenses they have with their growing families.  Boy I could sure use them around here today as it seems the last few days I have not been keeping up with my tasks very well and it is showing.

JUNE, I am sure happy to see that you are pulling yourself up by the boot strings to do your best at participating.  Makes me smile to know you will not miss your choral group.  I would be right there with you as I love to sing.  My world needs music in it EVERYDAY!

LLOYD, you did indeed learn a valuable lesson at a young age and you can be proud of yourself for doing so.  I can appreciate what you and Nancy are doing with your plans for the farm.  I wish you the best and hope that you can accomplish everything you need to do and that it can go as smoothly as possible.

LARRY, good to read that the rains have slowed down in your area.  That Irma sure did cause a lot of wide spread damage.  I hope you enjoy all the plans you have for the day.

GLORIA, without a doubt it is clear that the manager of your place is just one big old bully! I am sorry as it sure would be much better if she could be kinder to the folk that are paying her salary!

MARYANN, nice to read you have a brand new dishwasher...now don't expect it to last 25 years like your old one, as they now have timers in them that make them only work for a couple of years, or so it seems.  My dad bought a new Kenmore refrigerator less than three years ago and the compressor went out a few days ago.  It costs more to replace it than to buy a new one, with the repair costs.

HAL, I enjoyed the story you shared.  Wow.....what a story!  Bless that man.  Nice offer for breakfast......sure wish it were REALLY possible for us all to get together in person!

I totally understand the logic to bagging groceries.....it is logic!

Too much going on, so I had best get this posted.  Enjoy your day.

Jenny

Jenny, I am on my third refrigerator in 36 years and I wish I had had the old one repaired - new motor to the tune of $225.  Of course, the new refrigerator cost more than that, but I had features in the old one that I miss.  It is too late now.

My old dishwasher still worked but I could not get a water arm up to access the strainer so the dishes were not getting clean.  Tom has wanted a new dishwasher for some time so I now call the new one "Tom's Dishwasher".  It loads differently than the old one and that will take some getting used to but it will wash everything clean and that is what counts.  The only thing I don't like is the stainless steel front and with our small kitchen, it looks gloomy.  I wasn't about to pay $50 more for a white front as this was on special and really had a suggested list price of maybe $200 more.  I'll survive!!!

Tom is at lunch with a friend and will bring back a hamburger for me.  When he isn't here, I usually make a salad.  I ended up with four tomatoes and I have to get rid of them.  Salads are the best way.  If Tom is not here for supper, I'll make a salad.

Mary Ann

JaneS

Jenny, I must apologize for two things...

First, Amy asked first and Eloise went to Canada to help with the canning of the red beets.  She can come to Denver tomorrow is you still want her.

Second, I'm one of those who doesn't answer everyone.  If I come on and read and everyone says what I would have said, I probably don't say it.  I'll try to do better.  I'm glad you said something because you are definitely NOT boring me.  I enjoy your posts even if I don't answer.

In fact, I enjoy everyone's posts whether I answer or not.  Poke me if I don't answer something you think I should.  I'm a little bit lazy!

And today my computer is being stubborn.  Things aren't working the way they should.  I finally installed an upgrade they've been telling me I needed and maybe that's the problem solved.

Lots of participation today.  We're keeping Verna and Eloise on their toes.

Good morning everyone, cloudy this AM so will have to wait and see what the day will bring.

JANE your post #803 had me chuckling. Too true though, I have noticed posts here have dwindled without JOAN. I know I have only been posting once a day. Things have been very boring living here, no more social activities and only a few sit out on the porch on a nice day. I have been getting books from the library on the first floor  reading. At least I am getting fresh air and some vitamin D.

No hurricane here YET. Will be getting some of Irma's rain and we still do not know it Jose will go west or east. The European forecast had it going over us here but the US one has it offshore. Only time will tell. My one excuse for staying away is this#^%#$^%$^% computer. It just aggravates me so much about the only thing I do is come here, check my email and then get on Skype with my daughter in the late afternoon.

AMY  I love pickled beets, I'll be there to taste them for you.

JUNE  I refuse to stay in my apartment all the time even if it means sitting out on the porch alone. I thing the witch would like all of us to stay home and let her do what she wants. There are a few that we seldom see anymore, I think they are afraid of her.

HAL  I waited for you yesterday so you could buy my breakfast but you never showed up.

JANE  where is Verna? I want a Belgian Waffle with strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast. OOPS  just spilled my full cup of coffee. Hey Eloise-sorry I am so sloppy today and have this mess for you to clean up.

3 hours later after interruptions-
HAL  that is quite a link to that policeman.

LARRY  the heat would have to be off for pipes to freeze with a wiwndow open an inch and it would have to be well below freezing. This building witch has many of us wondering if she has all her marbles. She really has some crazy thoughts and ideas.

JANE  we have a slight lunatic here???? Gee I did not know that, tell me who it is, surely no one I know here fits that description. ???  ???

JOY  I remember the radio program Let's Pretend but don't remember listening to it.

JENNY  every once in awhile someone mentions a petition to sign and send to the pwners. Everyone agrees but then too many unwilling to sign their names because if it did not work she would make life hell for those who signed.

MARY ANN  the GE fridge I bought is 1987 is still going strong at my son's house and his BIL is using it. It is still better than the ones here. These are taller but less room inside, the freezer is ruined by having the freezing element in the middle of it instead of in a corner like mine was.

JANE  some days I will talk to everyone and others I really have nothing to add. Today I think I have written a book.

May I rejoin Soda Shoppe?  I have been out of town (all over Minnesota) for two weeks.  Guilty of visiting as many friends and relatives as time allowed.

Now to catch up here.

Mary Ann

I'm another who doesn't reply to every post, in fact, I usually don't post unless there is mention of something of interest to me.  I do read each post every day.  I find when I do post, I write a book so I don't mind if others write books.  In fact, I enjoy them.

Since Tom brought back a cheeseburger for me for lunch, I think my supper will be a salad.  Tom bought a couple of tomatoes last week and put them in the crisper and I didn't know it.  Then he took a friend from Fremont MI to the airport and his friend's mother gave him a couple of tomatoes.  I can't eat four tomatoes in a week or two - but I'm trying.  Tom isn't that fond of tomatoes so it is up to me.

Mary Ann

JaneS

Welcome back, Carol.  I hope all your visits were good ones.

Mary Ann, sometimes I just cut up the tomatoes and put a little salad dressing on them and a little salt and pepper and that's my lunch.  I don't even bother with the rest of the salad fixins because to me the tomatoes are the stars.

I picked up TLH after her after-school exercise program and we went to the library.  She found a book she wanted and another that is at our sister library in the next town.  They are going to bring it here and put it on hold and call her.  All I managd was to look over the videos again a pick up one for a lady with a walker when she dropped it.  We chatted for a minute about the "joys" of growing older and then she moved on.

Time to think about supper and Mary Ann reminded me that I have a couple of tomatoes in the fridge that need to be used.  I also have a turkey meat loaf patty and some scalloped potatoes.  Sounds like supper to me!  I wonder if Verna will go get it ready for me!

Jane,  I think that Shirley was planning a trip to Colorado,  and I don't think she usually tells when she will be away.   I am not sure about that, but she had been talking about her trip out that way.   I think she and Jenny are planning on trying to get together.

Just a thought, since you did mention that she hadn't been around.

I am having a just a tomato and cucumber salad along with my dinner.  I, also, will just put some of my homemade dressing on a cut up tomato or some cut up cucumbers.  I by those little cucumbers that don't have a lot of big seeds.  That will be my lunch sometimes, also.  Our good Maryland home-grown tomatoes are just about overwith.  And, they have been delicious this year.

Good afternoon, back to  very warm day, The A/C is going.

i could have use some help to day, as I open the cedar chest and made the winter summer exchange, but I am worn out now

Hal. I am always ready for a cup of coffee.

Jenny, I know what you mean, I write a long post but one or two mention it I know I also do  not answer all either.  Larry I guess Charleston had a lot of high water damage.  I did live on Broad St. not

far from the Battery.

Jane, as I wrote above I could have use some extra help to day, my

bed room had piles of cloths to be hung up all over.

Joy, I went to make a lettuce and tomato sandwich with bacon, but did not have a tomato.

Jane, thanks for the tomato salad suggestion.  I usually eat my tomatoes with cottage cheese.  I used to get the small (6 oz) package of greens, but our stores don't seem to carry them now and I can't eat a 12-oz package of greens in a week before they go bad.  So, tomato with dressing and no greens should take care of the tomato situation.

When I was young my neighbor friends used to eat tomatoes like I ate apples.  I still would not be able to eat a tomato that way, but since those days I did get to like them.  I was a much pickier eater when young.  Dad had a patch of asparagus behind the garage and do you think I'd eat any?  No!  But after Dad died and the asparagus started coming up, I could not let it go to waste and believe it or not, I love asparagus now.  Same with rhubarb (pie plant).  Oh, what I missed when I was a child.

Gloria de, thanks for that idea.

Norm grew tomatoes in pots, two pots, and when he left for Florida in late September, I got what was left.  I do miss those tomatoes.  Dot doesn't care for tomatoes so doesn't buy them, let alone grow them.

A few years ago my then next door neighbor rented her unit to a man who had a cherry tomato plant.  I had never seen them grown.  When he went on a vacation, he left them for me to water and use.  They were delicious.
