Good morning everyone!
Lloyd figured she was working on computer and didn't need me bugging her.  Very pretty yong lady.

Janie, I will have cup, but need to get a move on.  PT this morning and some other chores.  The big boss will be home tonight.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, hope I can get my life back to more normal now. Humidity is working it's way in this morning, just heard on forecast chance of thunderstorms late afternoon.

SHIRLEY  the nurse that was here yesterday and took my BP said it was normal. I have no idea why it was low, that med I have taken for at least 10 years or more. I would like to stop all of them for awhile and then see what ones I do need to take. Te way meds affect you I can understand why you do not want any. I have never had a reaction to any so far.

JANE  I made sauce in my crock pot only once and ended adding more tomato paste to it, The steam from the cover dripping in it made it too thin for me.

LLOYD  are those some beautiful ripe tomatoes I see? Hold on, I'll be right there to eat one or 2. Yesterday my son brought me some just picked peaches from an orchard just over the border in Conn. I had one, ripe and juicy.

HAL  bet you are happy your wife will be home tonight, you will be able to stop making your own meals.

Jane, I am sorry that didn't work out for you. Wonder if you left the lid half off would it cook during the night, be my luck it would burn. No matter which way you do them it will sure taste good! Trip to the vet is tomorrow Jane then to the city on Friday to the cardiologist. I hope we beat the traffic on Friday as it is the start of the Civic  holiday here.

Yesterday I mowed the lawn but didn't do the trimming so that was first on order today.have that done and the van washed now. Just came in to have a tea then will go out and wax the van.

Gloria, I bet that peach tasted great, can't beat a fresh peach.

Hal, bet you will be glad when the Mrs is home.

June, hope you feel better today, you must have needed that nap . I snuck one in yesterday too!!!

Larry, where are you??

Lloyd, nice looking vegetables .

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi everyone. It is a cool 66 degrees here this morning and it suppose to stay partly or mostly cloudy all day getting into the high 80's.  I woke up about 2:15 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep.  After an hour or so I got up and finished a jigsaw puzzles on the computer and read my email.  I then laid down again but still couldn't go to sleep so turned on the audiobook I am listening to.  I don't expect to go any where today so I will probably rest some later this morning and this afternoon.  Scott and Jennifer will be out this evening for dinner.  Pat put together a chicken casseroles last evening that is awaiting in the refrigerator and that will be our dinner tonight along with a lettuce salad that I will make later this afternoon.

I had an interesting experience yesterday at Kroger's, where I went to pick up Pat's online grocery order.  When the young man brought out the cart with our groceries I saw the receipt and it was for over $250.  I knew our groceries should have been in the $30 range.  There was a car next to me also getting her order, which was a large one and that was the ticket for her order.  However, they had put the three cartons of cola that Pat had ordered on her ticket.  So they had to adjust her ticket and mine.  In addition, Pat had ordered a box of Velveeta Cheese that wasn't in the box of groceries so the young man went in to retrieve it.  When he came out with it he said there would be no charge for the colas or the Velveeta Cheese as they had made the mistakes on the bills.  The bottom line is that they didn't charge me for around $19 worth of product.  I thanked him very much.  I have to wonder if he just didn't know how to redo the receipt although he told the other clerk loading the other car what he was doing and that seemed to be OK.  I was also told not to look a "gift horse" in the mouth.  Unfortunately we won't be shopping online at Kroger anymore because after three free orders all future orders are $4.99 per order regardless of amount.  Walmart, which is located across the street, has no order charge for purchases over $30, which seems to be no problem for us.

Amy, a good one about Jane's tomatoes.  I like your sense of humor.

Hal, a 6,000 mile trip would make anyone tired.  I know they will be glad to see home and have a few days to rest up.  Interesting info on mustard. I tried the hot mustard in a Chinese restaurant once and that was enough for me.  It ruined my lunch.

Shirley, glad your sweet gum tree needed no treatment. I like a spicy mustard but not the hot mustard.

Jeanne, thanks for setting us up for another month and sharing that beautiful graphic from Phyllis.  That is indeed a beautiful handmade table cloth on Lloyd's table.

deAngel, Pat uses the crock pots (a large one and a small one) quite often and it sure makes the house smell good for several hours as it cooks.  We also use our microwave every single day.

June, nice that your community can assist the young workers going to college.  Glad to see you must have been feeling better yesterday and able to attend the meeting but see that you didn't make it to the computer class.

Jane, it is sad when we realize we are losing another good friend who has played a role in our lives.  So many of the coffee drinking buddies I have had over the past twenty plus years, plus people I worked with for long periods of time, are no longer with us.  Time marches on and change is a constant whether we like it or not.  Does the deli counter at Walmart sell the two brands of Lebanon Bologna you mentioned.  I have loved bologna all of my life both as in an fried.

Gloria, it sounds like you are getting good and attentive care from your health workers.  Better that than no attention.  I must say I envy you and those tree ripened peaches your son picked for you.

halkel

Larry, I did stretch that mileage a bit, it is only 4998.5 Miles according to a google search.  But isn't it amazing to be able to travel that kind of distance in a days time.  You like I am an old country boy and I can remember when a 40 mile journey to a city nearby was an all day trip, there and back and considered an adventure to us kids.

Shirley

Larry, my fav grocery store is part of the Kroger chain (Dillons in KS) and has the same policy of "if they or their machines make a mistake, item is free".  Since I am there 2-3 times a week we don't do the free thing, they do so much with their "Friday Freebies" & the gas discounts, I just let them refund my money if they over charge or miss a bargain, at first they did.... Have you checked to see if they do the online coupons & Friday Freebies?  Sometimes only candy but lots of time will be $2-$3 or more item.  Just add the coupon to your card online on a Friday & can pick up any routine trip later.  I buy my gift cards for most all fast foods that you mention eating at... when they have the 4x the amount in gas points, grandkids get gift cards for birthdays & Christmas (all are into Amazon now).  That way I don't have to use cash when out.... and I end up with a dollar off for $35 gallons of gas for the RV.  Usually I will have several dollar credits when making a trip to CO, stations there that honor the Kroger discounts... so in one trip I can save $105.... since the elephant holds $55.

Have a million things to do today so better get moving.  Cut back the over grown flower bed in the pool area... doesn't take long for it to go wild.  Had the sprinklers running in the front yard, son has them all doing their job perfectly.  Too bad I don't have a nice crop of fescue but is half Bermuda & ground ivy....  I gave up the fight.  As long as it's green it's safe in my yard!  Now to trim my hair, shower & take a thumb drive to Sam's to have prints made of old LaurenKat to leave with the Animal Rescue in the area of CO... in case they have trapped or had anyone report about her.  I would be more than satisfied to know for sure that she isn't suffering.

Have a great day, Every Friend.... was nice & cool all night, LOVE IT, Gloria..... but to warm up today.  A few days of this & I am almost human again.

LARRY, they do sell both those Lebanon Bolognas in the deli in most of PA WalMarts but don't look for it anywhere else.  My daughter asked at about 10 different grocery counters in Texas and when one of the guys came up with something they called "summer sausage", he made her try it.  It was NOT Lebanon Bologna.  Amy's son is a truck driver and travels through PA quite often.  I was suggesting that he might stop and buy some for her to try when he's here.

I have 14 half pint jars of tomatoes in the canner and when they are done, I promise not to bore you with any more tomato talk.  I do them in the little jars for in things like meat loaf and turkey loaf because I like the flavor.  I also have enough of the sauce left to make a nice batch of spaghetti sauce and I also have what I need for meatballs.  Maybe I'll do that tomorrow but if I do, I promise I won't mention the "T" word on here.

The canner is done!  Back later!

Dry mustard:  I use it when making mom's egg salad recipe.  We always had egg salad sandwiches on our cross-country drives.  Tradition!

Lloyd:  It is very nice that Nancy bakes for you!  You have a treasure.

Gloria de:  Great that you used the panic button.  A cousin of mine didn't have any button and was trapped in a shower stall for overnight & next day.  It could have been fatal but his daughter in another state called the police to break into the house.  You are so smart to be prepared.

Jeanne:  Kids can do some heart-stopping things.

I have been reading too often of parents leaving children in cars with deadly results.  So hard to imagine how that can happen.  Parents have to be devastated - is it too many things on their minds?  Too many distractions?  Having raised four little ones- I can understand but it sure never happened that I forgot anyone.

Back to cleaning and sorting.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, not quite as warm as yesterday, but humidity was 97 at 7AM

Jane, I am already tired when I read, all that you have been doing. Canning and going to work, taking care of your babies.

June , I am here, staying a little tired, there is a Red Hat luncheon to morrow but one of the ladies is bring my dinner home.

Gloria, I also like the cool weather.  When the nurse was here, my P was low, which is not normal for me.  she had me drink a glass of water and it came up a little.  I got 2 peaches from Stop & Shop, and I was so surprised, as they tasted like ones I buy at the stands.

I join the group, hoping we hear from Joan soon.Amy, talking about hot stuff, my foot doctor told me to use capsaicin, for my feet and hurting legs, but be sure and use gloves, when I rub it in. As it it made from chili peppers.

My sewing machine was humming along and then the angels wanted to bowl....off went my machine. Dogs are panting, not liking the thunder but it looks as though it is moving off....love the rain though!!!

Gloria De , that would really be good for circulation I would think and yes were gloves and be careful of your eyes too!

Jane, I will tell him of that bologna but at the moment he is headed to Quebec, I just hope he gets home before the traffic becomes a nightmare!

Carol children and pets are left in hot vehicles, if I came across either that window would be broke in no time.

Jane, 14 wow that is good, I didn't know how much a canner would hold of the half pints, good to know.

Better shut this down till after the storm

Good afternoon, and good evening, depending on where  you live. This has been a weird day for me. Did go down for our Bible study, and enjoyed it very much. Came home and that was it. All tired out.

I had ordered a side table from Amazon and it turned out to be a t.v. stand, too low for a side table by my chair. I assembled it this morning...no tools required at all, and I liked doing that.  I just can't trust my brain power though when if comes to a purchase  on the computer. So I placed it in my sun room as I am adding some plants to my indoor garden. I can't take care of a liittle animal or bird or fish or...but plants I can still do.

Didn't feel well after lunch..all worn out, so that was the end of my day.

Gloria de, I think you and I are in the same condition health-wise. It's been a good life, but the rest of it is up to our loving God. One day at a time. I sing that song almost every morning. "One day at a time, sweet Jesus, one day at a time".

I'm going to have a light supper at home, and just enjoy the rest of the day.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June, I'm so sorry you don't feel well.  At our ages, we don't need "not feeling well" to add to our ailments.

Tom, Dot and I went to Jan's for lunch today.  Jan had bought sandwiches from Jimmy John's and they were very filling.

In April, Jan and Terry flew out to California to meet their new grandson, born in March.  Jan took a picture of Terry holding the baby, Isaiah, and their son, Geoff, was sitting across the room, but very visible.  Geoff sent a copy of the picture to me and I realized it was a 3-generation picture of the three of them.  Within a couple of days, Terry was in the hospital out there and after he got out, he and Jan flew home.  Terry died a month later.  Tom sent the picture to Walgreen's to be blown up, then he framed it and today we gave the picture to Jan.  She was very touched by it.  It is the only 3-generation picture on our side of the family, although when the baby is here, Jan's family can have a 4-generation picture.  I am so glad we did that for Jan.

It has been a lovely day here today but I'd sure like some rain and according to the weather channel we may get it.

Mary Ann

June Drabek

Mary Ann, you are correct, with all our daily ailments, we really don't need anything additional. But on we go.....tough old birds. You have a great family Mary Ann...lots of love and caring for one another.

We have had a weird weather day for this area. Hot and humid. Lots of clouds, and storm warnings of flash floods but so far we are still all dried up in my immediate area. I'll have to check the news and see what is going on around us.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I'm home from work and I'm very tired.  I'm going to try to get to bed early tonight.  I had a busy day today and tomorrow I have to take Annie to the Vet for a test.  She'll be there most of the day so  I think I'll give Mickie a nice walk with her Mommy and no one else.  She can sniff and snuff to her heart's content!

I've decided to make spaghetti sauce out of what's left of the "T".  I have everything I need including the ground pork for the meatballs.

Now I'm off to do a couple of last minute odds and ends and then to an early bed.

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one.

NOTE:  MARY ANN what a nice thing to do with the picture of your "boys"!

Well it has been a screwed up afternoon and evening.  Wife and daughter are hung up at JFK in the Big Apple, the flight they were scheduled to catch out of JFK was coming in from Cincinnati and due to weather it was delayed departing.  Latest was scheduled to leave out of JFK at 10:25 and due in here at 1 something.  They said that the airport there at JFK is absolute bedlam and you dare go to try and find something to eat, you will lose your seat in the waiting room.

Anyhow, I am going to lay down and my local daughter here said she would still go pick them up if they let her know they have arrived but they, my wife and daughter, said they may just get a cab or Uber.

Good Night, it is going to be a short one and I am afraid not much rest.

Lloyd Hammond

Good morning everyone. well Hal hope your wife and girl got home in good shape. Have a great day, with lots hugs and kisses. I know after they get a little rest a good home cooked meal will be in place.

Lloyd

JaneS

Good morning Everyfriend!  I have to hold both dogs off from breakfast this morning because Annie goes for a test and she's not allowed to eat anything before.  That won't be easy because they are used to eating about an hour after they get up and go out.  I think I'm going to go take my shower and get dresses when it would normally be time for them to eat.  Maybe they won't know the difference and I didn't set the beeper either.  I wonder how easy it is to confuse dogs?

Hope alls well with all of you and everyone is where they should be by now.  Waiting around in airports when you tired from a long trip is no fun.   I was once stranded in Kennedy  with 36 teenage Girl Scouts and 8 adults.  We were the last plane allowed to land before heavy flooding.  We were stuck there for 11 hours and it was bad but it could have been worse.  Our kids were great!  They played games with bored and tired children, watched luggage while moms took kids to the rest rooms, went to the restaurants for drinks and snacks for people, sang songs, slept and generally made themselves helpful.  I was really proud of them!

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone. We are expecting to have a somewhat cooler overcast day today getting up to only about 85 degrees.  I had a very good nights sleep last night and feel refreshed this morning.  I am looking forward to going to coffee and then after taking my friend back to his assisted living facility returning downtown to attend the Wisdom Class at the Church.  We had a nice evening with Scott and Jennifer last evening.

I am going to try to hold back a bit on comments today as seem to have been writing chapters of a book the last few days.

Hal, it sounds like your wife's trip back and the delay at JFK airport must have been totally exhausting.  As I was growing up a trip to Kansas City to visit my aunt and uncle was about 100 miles and we only did that about once a year.  That was a long trip in those days and it was an adventure.  Of course, we had to get back to the farm by 5 pm to take care of the milking and other farm chores.

Shirley, didn't realize that Kroger's had that policy on their mistakes.  We used to buy out gas at the Kroger gas station a mile or so away from where we lived but haven't done so since moving as we don't often shop there.  Fortunately our cars do not have large gas tanks and get fairly good mileage.

JaneS, I will check the Walmart Deli here for the Lebanon Bologna.  I have been cutting out the sandwiches for lunch and substituting cheddar cheese chunks, which are good with apple and some fresh vegetables.

Amy, I have never heard that expression of "angels wanting to bowl".  I had to stop and think about it a moment.  :)

June, sorry your side table didn't work out.  Glad you found a use for it and didn't have to return it.

Lloyd, I hope you are able to finish up the bulldozing job today and go home with some jingle in your pocket.

Mary Ann

Hal, I hope your wife and daughter are home by now.  I've had similar experiences in an airport twice - in Newark and Boston.  And it isn't fun.  It sounds as if your wife's experience was more stressful than mine because I was on tours and others were responsible for our well being.

We are getting some long awaited rain with lightning and thunder with it.  My outside plants will be overjoyed.

Mary Ann

Good Morning Everyone!

Well my family finally got home at 2:45 this morning and dead tired.  Not too much visiting, my oldest daughter and husband picked them up at airport and dropped them off at the house and everyone went to bed.  Donna, my daughter, was up around 8 and headed out to Del Rio, another 150 miles, by car.  And has to pick up her two Huskies from her other sisters before she can call it a day and get some rest.  Wife was up and had some coffee and a snack and then back to bed.  She was telling me that the only food they got at JFK was two drinks and some chips, cost, 13.00.  Nothing like a captive customer.

At any rate, all's well that ends well.

The real pinnacle, our dog had thrown up in the living room in front of the window she lays at while looking out the front.  I will get it handled somehow.  Wife discovered the evidence.

JaneS

Annie's at the vet and we're waiting for a call to pick her up.

Hal, Mickie does NOT like to left alone in the house so she left me a present while I was gone.  I've discovered over time that the cleaning vinegar does a great job of cleaning up after dog.  It gets rid of any stains, takes away any smells and the vinegar smell disappears in minutes.  It's become my "go to" for quick cleanups.

I have spaghetti  and meatballs simmering on the stove and noodles as close to my MIL's homemade ones as I can get.  Anyone want to join me for supper?  Be here by 6:30 Eastern time.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, looks like I made up for that night of no sleep. We got thunderstorms that started about 5 and kept circling around so I was in bed by 8 and got up at 9 this morning.

AMY  that peach was wonderful. First time in years I had a freestone peach, too. I had just about stopped buying any and been sticking to nectarines. Picked ripe is so much better.

LARRY  i know how it feels when you cannot sleep. Been happening to  me too often lately. So far I have had 2 of those peaches. Makes me wish I had a bushel of them to freeze or can. Of course these days I can do neither.

HAL  from one end of RI to the other must be about 50 miles. Long commute when working at the other end from where one lives. When I used to go visit my brother and SIL it was always overnight, not a trip for 1 day.  Last time my son and DIL took me to the shore for chowder and clamcakes  I couldn't wait to get home and out of the car. We did get out there and walk around a bit. I love the smell of the ocean and watching the waves.

SHIRLEY  you always have too many things to tackle every day. Don't you ever have a day of just doing nothing? I have too many days like that now mainly because I cannot do much of anything. This morning I was cold when I got up, the AC was on all night so it was cool. Liked that. I will not be happy with my next light bill.

JANE   I do not mind your tomato talk. I used to can a lot of them and you make me wish I still could. I would make my spaghetti sauce and can that, too. I can no longer do that and I cannot take the taste of any of the jars of the sauce. If it is not home made I cannot eat it.

CAROL  too many times we hear of a little one dieing in a hot car. I will never understand in these days why anyone would leave a child in a car alone. I know I never left my 3 alone in a car no matter how long I would have been away from it. I would like leaving those people in a locked car and let them feel what happens.

GLORIA de  when I ask my son to get me any produce he never gets it at Stop&Shop. There is another market close and that is where I alway got produce if my farm stand was not open. Much fresher and more variety. He knows how fussy I am about food. I have a small container of Capsaicin that has a roll on. No need to wear rubber gloves applying it. I use it often on my back. I used to get the tube until I saw the one I now have. It sure does feel good, I use it on my shoulder too at times.

AMY  when those angels started bowling here yesterday first thing I did was send my daughter an email telling her I was shutting down and would not meet her on Skype. It rolled around for hours, I went to bed about 8 and they were still bowling. They must have got several strikes from the sound.

MARY ANN  I have a couple of pictures with 4 generations, I was the only female in them. My sons, grandsons and great grandsons.
I treasure them and one grandson is in heaven.

LLOYD  you deserve more than one day of doing nothing. Good to give the body a rest.

HAL  only once did I have a layover at JFK. I stayed right where the plane would be. Always did that, did not want to miss any flight. I never liked flying and did not want to walk around in case I got lost and missed a flight. I hope your wife and daughter are now home.

JANE  hope everything goes good with Annie's test.

AMY just hear on local forecast more thunderstorms late today again.

LARRY  when my 3 were young  there was 2 boys next door that were always in our yard. One day the dark clouds moved in and they ran home crying because they were afraid we were in for a thunderstorm, their mother was scared and made them scared. My 3 came in crying and scared. No way would I allow that. We went out on the wide front porch standing against the house. I made a game of it, the angels were bowling and every time they got a strike was when there was a loud one and a brighter flash of lightning. I did not know what else to do, I did not want them to fear it. At that time I also told them when one started to get inside fast and never stand under a tree. That porch was very wide and had a roof so I thought it would be safe. I really dislike when adults who are afraid make little ones like them.

JANE  I would like to know if there is a difference between cleaning vinegar and regular white vinegar. I use vinegar for most cleaning. I have a spray with water/vinegar that I use to keep my kitchen counters clean and disinfected. No chemicals involved. Been using it for years. Instead of fabric softener in the washing machine I used vinegar, cuts all the soap from the clothes. Smell fades fast. To do that here you would have to stay by the washing machine and listen for the rinse cycle, no dispensers on the machines.  I'll be there at 6:30.

My grandmother was terribly afraid of thunderstorms and my mother determined I wouldn't be.  She convinced me the lightning was when a little girl turned the lamp switch too far (remember those thumb switches?), the fainter thunder was Daddy tapping on a drum and the really loud crashes were when Mommy dropped the wash tub down the cellar stairs.  Then we had a fun game deciding what made those noises in between.  No time to get scared.  :-)

My grandmother's fear is a story in itself and a family legend.

She was a devout Cathlic and firm faith that Holy Water was protection against almost anything and kept a full bottle of it in the same cabinet with my grandfather's favorite scotch.

During a storm she would sprinkle all around the house with holy water.  One dark storm she proceeded with the sprinkling and accused my grandfather of having taken a drink or two - which he fervently denied.  When the lights came back on it was discovered that she had been blessing the house with scotch.   ;D

I love storms and liked to sit on the front porch at my cottage when we had a storm.  The windows were closed so the rain wouldn't come in, but I could see the lightning and rain and hear the thunder.  I don't recall either of my parents being afraid of storms, but I really don't recall their reactions when we had a storm.

Gloria, Norm and I had only one grandparent alive and she lived in Minnesota until the last six years of her life when she came to live with us.  I don't remember any pictures of her, my dad and/or Norm together.  So that is why we make so much of this 3-generation picture of Terry, Geoff and Isaiah.  Actually, we make more of it because it was the last picture of Terry because he died a month later.  As for the picture itself, it isn't much, but it is what it represents that makes it special.  I could tell by Jan's face that she was very moved to receive the picture.

Someone commented somewhere that I have a large family; I'm not so sure about that.  When my folks moved to Michigan, we were the only ones of our family to come here.  My folks had two children, Norm had three, I have none, Norm had six grandchildren and now there are four great-grandchildren for Norm.  In the meantime, Norm and two of his sons have died.  Of course, my parents died many years ago.  This is in contrast to people whose families stay in the same city for generations.  None of my cousins (only six first cousins) ever lived in Michigan.

Jeanne Lee, I love your stories about your grandmother.
