Joy

Good morning to all the early morning friends.

Oh ! It is so nice to see the sun shining this morning.  It is still a little windy and only in the low 30's, but hopefully,  will get a little warmer later in the day.

June, I am so happy to read where you felt good enough to go down for your dinner last night.  I know that everyone enjoyed your being with them.

Nothing special going on today, so far.  Will have to see what the rest of the day brings.

Just wanted to say Good Morning, and hope that everyone will have a good day.

Joy

Hi Everyone.  Another clear sky this morning and temperatures headed up to the mid-80's this afternoon.  I did get my tooth filled yesterday and it took only about 30 minutes.  This evening we will go to the Church for a chili dinner.  Scott and I may go to the hardware store for a new latch for your wooden fence in back.  It has shifted and the installed latch doesn't work well.  I plan on a simple hook type fastener so the gate stays shut. He said he would come on out this morning and install it for me although I haven't heard anything from him this morning and he may be sleeping in.

Lloyd, when I see pictures like the one that Bubble posted for Amy it sure makes me happy to live here in the South where we get little if any snow during the winter. The fellow that zoomed in on you was probably using the Google Earth program.  It is quite amazing.

Amy, hope you didn't have to get out and drive in that snow yesterday.  I know you had your snow tires removed but did you keep them on your husband's car?

June, so happy to see your were feeling great yesterday and hope today is the same and that you were up to having the full dinner.

Jane, those pictures and videos of the baby are the next best thing to being there.  Hope you found many smiles in your line this morning.

Gloria, I have always admired Barbara Bush as she seemed to be the type of person who said what she thought.  I have a feeling she pulled the strings in her family and will be greatly missed.  She certainly had a full and interesting life.  How sad that another policeman was killed.  This seems to be a daily thing anymore.  I have a waste basket right by my desk and have to empty it at least twice a week as get so much paper that has to be thrown away.  Yes, that is the Batman.  I watched an old Carol Burnett show that was 30 minutes long and featured two or three skits.  One of them was Carol and Tim Conway as Mrs. Wiggins and My. Tudbolt.  I can't remember when I have had such good laughs.

Joy, glad you posted and Good Morning to you.  Stay warm.

well some truck drivers do things not well thought same as the rest of us. we are all humans and all of do dumb things, it is not always the other person.

Jenny, where I lived before I started a program for getting help,  as they did not have the emergencey buttons we have here, and we furnished whistles for all the residents. I would bet that us you had a sharp whistle to blow, while sitting on the floor, bleeding, you would  have received emergency help in a big hurry. I still feel each of us should wear a whistle if we do not have the  emergency button. They are inexpensive and would certainly draw immediate attention. That fireman should have been fired.

Gloria, what a difference a day makes. I feel great today, but I am so sorry I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday. I sounds very Happy though with all the family remembrances and others here. I am so happy for you dear friend.

I am going to scoot down for supper. Had a light lunch at home so will enjoy a full dinner tonight, then home to relax. See you later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Denver

A good Wednesday HELLO.

We had terrible damaging winds here in the Mile High City yesterday.  No damage here at our place but there were many huge trees topped over all around the city.  Stuff was flying off of buildings and landing on cars.....thankfully no injuries to any people that I heard of.

JUNE, I appreciate your suggestions for keeping a whistle handy....that is a great idea and could be a saving grace to many situations.  I am sure happy to read you are feeling a bit more chipper and getting out and about.

My “nerve pain” continues however there is no evidence of any more eruptions so I hope and pray the worse of this shingle outbreak is behind me.  I had a very uncomfortable night with the same back pain that started all of this.  I can see this ordeal is a individual thing and we all seem to suffer in different ways.  Someone commented that they were surprised that I was getting out and about.....plain and simple truth is, you hurt all the time, so at least when you are doing something it kind of takes your mind off of it and I think that is better for me than just sitting here feeling sorry for myself.  I do think that I am very lucky on that my actual break is in the middle of my higher back and not in my waist line like many have.

I wish you all a good day.

Jenny, I do have the perfect way to get help, trust me, people will stop in their tracks... check this out with Amazon... I have several different styles attached to purses & key chains... and one attached to the small mace.  Hey, you know I am out & about so want one handy if needed!  I accidentally sent one off in Sam's Club one time & quickly shut it up, but everyone around wanted to see it & where did I get it???  I keep one attached inside my purse with the pull tab so I can reach should a purse snatcher grab it (we have had some stores & parking lots where older women have had problems... always one of the nice areas where you get used to being safe.   :o

https://www.amazon.com/Emergency-Personal-EXTREME-Premium-Portable/dp/B077BVDNMX/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_bs_lp_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=PQXNE6M3G3FT0EJ3XZQ5

You really have had a rough time lately and you know I can only keep my mouth shut so long.... so here I go.... you know I've been preaching the merits of vitamin B-1 for shingles & the brown spider bite... it is for nerve endings... and really did HALT the pain of my shingles immediately.  I was surprised when mine broke out and noticed that if I drank something ice cold the spots would feel like I put an ice cube against my skin, if I sipped hot coffee they felt like I put a cigarette on them.  By the time I had the Dr confirm the spots were shingles & she said "they use the same medication as for a brown spider bite... what was I going to do?...."  I went home & popped a 100 mg of B-1 & soaked the spots with Epsom salt... stopped 'em cold & ever since (30 years) when I get the special feeling of one breaking out, I hit the vitamins.  My best friend my age has the same good results with  L-Lysine Tablets from Walmart (about $5.00).  Since the B-1 worked for the spider bite & my shingles... I haven't tried the lysine.  Do hope you get relief soon.

My neighbor died yesterday, she was ready to go and a relief to all that loved her that her pain is over.  She will be missed.

I took time out to go down to the river before dark last night, always something new to enjoy.  As I watched the herons & egrets lift into the air as I walked up to the bank, I looked down to watch the fish, they are skittish this year and not coming right to my feet, must be they feel safer with the overhanging willows along the bank.  Anyway, one little muskrat came swimming past & looked up at me without fear and another came up right behind it real friendly like.  I looked close to make sure it wasn't young beaver but had skinny tails.  The beaver are working over time on the willows, fixing up their dens.  After 30 years I never have been able to spot the  dens, not even after walking the bank on the other side.

The down side of my wilderness is I found a tick on my leg the other day.  I noticed a spot on my shin one day, thought it was blood & wondered where I hit it but didn't look close.  Taking a shower the spot moved ... was sort of loose.  Had a sinking feeling what it was so tried several things to convince it to back out & gave up & pulled it out with tweezers & covered with antibiotic ointment.  It had at least 24 hours to fatten up so hope it didn't carry any bad disease. When I went down last night I slipped on my knee high boots & sprayed them with bug stuff.... Sure was not cold enough this winter to get rid of bugs & all those yucky things that bite.  Got the flea & tick stuff on all 3 cats & am considering a flea collar for each of my legs, you think?  Life on the River in Kansas.

Jenny, I sure hope you are feeling better. I have almost the same story to tell you. When I went to buy my new TV in PC Richard of course I had to go to the back of the store.  Picked the TV I wanted then had to make all the papers out back there, then was told I had to go to the front of the store to the office. I guess to finish paper work. My friend said she would go ahead and get things started, as I was tired and walking very slow with the cane.  Half way up to the front my knee just gave out and I fell.  One of the employees came by and ask what I was doing on the floor???????(picture a 90 year old women on the floor) My friend Rima came running back, got a chair, by that time my wrist was twice its size, Rima ask for ice, which I never got. No one called a manager, to make and incident report.  Which everybody said I should have got.  All I wanted to do was go home.  I should have gone and had my wrist checked out, but after a week of ice it started to get better. That was a couple of years ago. Of course I have the TV.

My mother had a whistle she would blow, when I was out playing which could be heard all over the neighborhood. One of the banks gave out whistles for women to carry in case they saw something troubling.

Another tip on whistles......the attacker would be frighted away too....he, she, it....does not know "who" the whistler blower is. It could be the police.

I wrote a length message this morning, then deleted  it...DUH !! To tired to do it over again. I'll try to do better tomorrow . your dumb friend, June.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

SHIRLEY, the Emergency Personal Alarm has been ordered from Amazon.  I do not have any Vit. B1, but I will be out buying it tomorrow. I will check out the Lysine just to be safe!  Thank you!  My steroids will end tomorrow so I think I will be just in time to start the Vit. B1. I have not been aware of my blisters having any feeling per se, like you explained.  All I know is I am so thankful that there has not been anymore spreading of the rash at all.  The pain was much worse last night than it has been in a couple of days but it settled down this afternoon and is now bareable.

You are right, GLORIA de, your expierence was like mine.  I am sorry to read that this happened to you.

JUNE, a whistle is something that we all should have.  WE MUST be prepared at all time.

I am going to head off to bed, it was not a very restful night last night.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Shirley, thank you for the link. I do have whistle but think your idea is better will look into get that one.

Joy, we did see the sun for a bit here yesterday, calling for more snow today but by the weekend it is to warm up.

AMY Looks Like you all got up before breakfast today. Have a careful and safe trip to the city. I am going with a friend today to a bee supply place to get some homey bee's and some hive supply's. it is cloudy and 35º now and headed for the High fifty's and sunny. you and all that fellows have a great day.

JaneS

Good morning Everyfriend!  We're in "wait" mode for the doggies pills and also for making a fresh batch of dog food.  (Dog food made)

Later today, I'm making West African Inspired Sweet Potato, Turkey and Peanut Soup.  That's my "try it" for this week.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Jenny, I'm glad you're feeling better and I sympathize with you that you weren't able to get help.  I remember, not too long ago, a lady ended up on the floor at the check out next to mine and within seconds, there were 6 WM Associates there to help....including one who is a trained paramedic.  I was impressed!  And since the local hospital is only minutes away and our own paramedic has a connection, the ambulance was there in less than 15 minutes.

I want to post this before the boinger goes off to feed the doggies.  Everyone have a lovely day!  We're supposed to have more rain  :( :-\

Gloria

Good morning everyone 37.° Dentist appointment,  just for a cleaning this time. Monday had to go out and it was pouring, today have to go out and again it is raining. Wonder if Mother Nature thinks the rain will make me grow? Just because I am vertically challenged and shrinking more it will help me? Nah.

JANE  I have the town car for a ride today and it is only about a 10 minute ride but how I hate going out in weather like this. When I was young I loved walking in the rain.

JOY  it was sunny here yesterday but windy and not much above freezing. Just heard on local news it was snowing in this area but I don't see any white flakes.

LARRY  Watching some of what they showed on TV about the police men and women who attended the wake and funeral for that officer I never saw so many from all over the country. I know for everyone killed in the line of duty they come from all over to attend and there is always a lot of them but this time it looked like more than I ever saw before. In Mass. they are talking about bringing back the death sentence for anyone who kills a policeman. Just heard his dog was released from the hospital. Looking at the poor dog his eyes looked so sad. Other photos of him he looked so alert. I think everyone liked Barbara Bush. She was a loving LADY. Cannot say that about most  first ladies. Those old shows did make us laugh, so glad we can still see some of them on TV.

LLOYD  some people do hot realize how hard it is for those big trucks to stop fast. I have see some cars pass them and pull in front of them and wonder how stupid they are.

JUNE   hope you keep feeling better. Days like this here I would like to stay in bed all day but have to go out in the rain for the second time this week.

JENNY  you are right, being out with others takes our minds off how we feel.

SHIRLEY  good idea. The way you travel all over alone it is a big safety measure for you. I do have a whistle my daughter sent me and it is close to my hand at all times. I heard that ticks will be bad here this year, winter was not cold enough to freeze them. We only had a few really cold days but not zero and below.

GLORIA de  these days I am never anywhere alone when I go out. I do have a fear of falling so am very careful when I walk and of course can only walk with my rollator.

JUNE  you are NOT dumb my friend. We all have deleted or lost posts.

JENNY  hope you had a better night last night.

AMY  NO MORE SNOW WANTED for any of us till winter is here. According to the calendar this is spring but does not feel like it.

JANE  it is raining here. Weather guesser said it would be here for 24 hours.

"When the Time Comes"

By Bob Perks

My father always taught me that without realizing it, you
will always be ready for anything...when the time comes.

Surely there will be things that happen that will shock
you, even knock you off your feet.

Yes, there will be both unexpected loss and incredibly
surprising joy.

It may take some time to get over it, but somehow you
always will get through it.

Look back at your life.  Think about all those things
that brought you to your knees.  Think about how
many times you said "I can't do this!"

Yet, here you are.

Why?  How did you ever get through it?

You are greater than any challenge.

You are more powerful than any storm in life.

You are capable of overcoming more than you think you can.

You are far more able to take charge of things than you know.

Inside each of us the exists a built in system created to
help us respond to any situation.

In extreme cases it is called the "Fight or Flight"
response.  That really puts us in over drive and removes
all logic and rationale..just survival.

Emotional, cognitive and physical responses are used more often.
We were created that way.

So, "when the time comes" you are already prepared to find
a way through, over, around or under any obstacle.

When the time comes, every cell in your body was designed
to automatically kick in to do their part.

The only thing that over rides this system is our failure to
trust those instincts.

The one who shuts down the system does not exist externally.

No one outside ourselves has that power unless we give it to them.

God created this magnificent system among all the other miraclous
functions that occur in our bodies so that "when the time comes"
we are fully capable of dealing with anything.

If you are struggling know that when the time comes you will win.

If you are lost, know that when the time comes you will find yourself
again.

If you are hurting know that when the time comes you will find relief.

Accept it.  Believe it.

When the time comes, you will make it through whatever life throws at you.

Hi Everyone. It is already 68 degrees outside to start the morning but is suppose to get to only 76 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday was one of those down days I have every so often when I was so tired I didn't feel like doing anything except what had to be done.  I laid down for two hours in the late morning and then after a quick lunch laid down again for another two hours or so.  We did meet Scott at the Church for dinner and then he came out and spent about 3 hours with us.

I will be picking up my friend at the assisted living facility later this morning and we will go to coffee.  I have several errands I want to run either before I pick him up or after but none of them should take very long.  Later this afternoon Pat and I plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's to take advantage of their buy one and get one entree.  It has been a few days since we have been there and that coupon is just too good to pass up.  That will be our main meal of the day.  I guess it is my Scottish heritage coming to play.

Lloyd, we live off of a frontage road for I-20 and I see so many trucks on it anytime I can view the road or drive on it.  I know we are dependent on trucks for our way of life so am glad they are there. Glad it is you dealing with the bees and not me.

Jenny, glad you didn't have damage from the winds in your area. While I love trees I am glad we have none that can fall on our house.  The discussion about whistles reminds me that last evening at dinner the children's sack meal that the kitchen always prepares usually has some kind of little toy and last night it was a whistle with a very sharp sound.  When several of the kids discovered them they started blowing them but soon that stopped as I expect the parents weren't excited about it.  I hope your nerve pain will soon be over and the suggestions that Shirley offered will help.  I agree that sometimes the best thing is to keep busy and put ones mind to other things.

Shirley, those are good suggestions for dealing with the nerve pain.  I will check out the link you provided. Sorry that you have lost another friend but it sounds like she was ready to give up the fighting.  Since I grew up on the farm I am very familiar with ticks.  However, I don't think back then they were as dangerous as they are nice with the Lyme Disease. It sounds like you almost have your own nature park by the river.

deAngel, there certainly should have been an incident report prepared by the store where you fell and also where Jenny fell.  Your incident wasn't the fault of the store, although they have liability for anything happening on their property just as we do on our property.

June, good point about the whistle.  I remember when you organized your committee and instituted the whistle program where you were living.  Sorry you lost your long message.

Amy, that was a pretty quick turn around on fixing your husband's hearing aid.  Hope your roads are clear by now.

Jane, that sounds like an interesting recipe.  It sounds like your Walmart has a well trained staff to deal with emergencies.  Do you receive special training on dealing with such events?

Gloria, I hope your dental appointment goes well and you hit some stops in the rain while you have to be out.  Does the town car help you with the rollator?  Police forces are very supportive of other policemen.  We saw a lot of this around Atlanta with long motorcades.  There is obviously a strong bond among policemen whether they know each other personally or not.  I have always felt that Laura Bush was also very much a lady.  It can't be an easy job to be a First Lady.

Sandy

Good Morning from the coldish and over
cast rocky coast of Maine.

Still waiting for Spring to come and stay!!

I am sorry to hear about Barbara Bush passing.
She has had a remarkable life.

I think that most of the First Ladies have done
a wonderful job...  And made this country very proud
of them.      Funny how the First Ladies always
seem to rate higher then their spouses.   :knuppel2:

I hope that everyone has a nice day...
Sandy

Larry, there is no special training given for emergency situations.  We do have to take a Computer Based Learning course in dealing with all kinds of emergencies.  We renew this every year.  We are, however, blessed to have two trained volunteer EMTs on our staff.  One works days and the other works nights.

And with the hospital just minutes away, we have that advantage also.  I always say that if I'm going to collapse at WM, I hope it's not on Sharon's day off!  She's been a volunteer with the ambulance crew for almost 20 years.

My doggie groomer is here and my doggies are getting baths and haircuts.  I think they like it better doing that right here than going to the shop.  I know I do!

Mary Ann

Jenny, I take a Super B Complex tablet each day.  I read long ago that we cannot store Vitamin B but must take some each day.  I imagine B1 would be the same.

Someone mentioned Barbara Bush and I read a couple of headlines in the news of people calling her a racist and something else.  My thought was "at the time of a death, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything".  I know both she and her husband came from affluent backgrounds, but she seemed like such a "down-to-earth" person and I'll continue to think of her that way.

I hope you feel stronger for a few days, Larry, it must be aggravating to not feel up to par when you need to do something.

I'll have to search for golf today as I don't know where they'll play.  Not every tour is a major tournament and not all "names" play in all important tournaments.

Mary Ann

Amy

What a great day!!! First while checking the mail box we saw a pileated woodpecker fly onto the hydo pole and fly away in front of us. Next when almost to the city we saw an osprey fly to his/her nest hanging on to a fish. Meet an old friend just outside the hearing place and stopped to chat a bit after getting a dandy hug!! On the way home I had to stop to let some turkeys cross the road, the fist batch I did blow my horn at but they paid no attention, think Tom T Turkey was more interesting lol. The next go a turkeys flew in front of us, making us slow down along with traffic behind us

Larry, I too hope no more snow but it was lightly snowing on our way to the city, sun is out now and snowing has stopped. Hope that is it.

Shirley

Ah, Amy, that sounds like a perfect day!  Nothing man ever made compares with Mother Nature's world!

Mary Ann, my mother took B-complex vitamins when I was young but later was told that she needed B-12 instead.... and I found the 100 mg of B-1 will keep mosquitoes away (for adults) for at least 5 hours.  That is also the mg I used for shingles & the brown spider bite.  This year I couldn't find anything but the 250 from Puritan Pride online so I held out until they got it back in.

When we first moved to Wichita we rented a house with a big yard (all houses were on half acres or acres), lots of trees & evergreens... ticks & mosquitoes. The old pharmacist at the closest drug store came to our rescue by explaining, "we could either get a prescription from the doctor or take the Thiamine Hydrochloride (B1)  that was in the prescription that the mosquitoes didn't like".  He explained we should take with our supper so strongest when the kids played outside in the evening, 100 mg for adult, 50 mg for medium size kid & 25 mg for the 3 year old... the baby didn't go out. The kids had no problem swallowing pills and that ended the kids looking like they had some horrible disease on every part of their face or body.  I guess like everything, it works for some and not for others.  My family never travels without it.

By the way, for anyone considering one of the personal alarms... they work even if you have the wind knocked out of you & can't blow a whistle or yell.... just pull the little plug out & it screeches...  put it back in & it shuts up.  With my purse I make sure the screecher will stay inside the purse & no way a thief could shut it up if I have the "pin" in my hand, I expect they would drop the purse fast.  My first introduction to these things was years ago when I bought a box of larger ones that used 9V batteries.  All the man running the estate sale could say was "they are some kind of security things".  My son explained & I shared some of them with him & his wife. As time went on I discovered the smaller ones that fit on key chains or slipped into a pocket.  For sure they will get attention.

Larry, had to grin at the monitor when you mentioned "from MO & knowing about ticks".... remember how big they would get on the bird dogs that people used to have?  My youngest brother told me that was what was in Grandma's prune cake... can you imagine???  Even though I knew he was teasing it was a nightmare trying to eat even a tiny piece.  Back in those days we didn't say we did not want something (that would be rude) and Grandma's prune cake was considered the best cake in the world..... (if you were an adult).

And now it's time to visit the river.  I got most of my pampas grass cut down & tied up today, several small jobs taken care of & made 2 loaf pans of meat loaf that I baked in the oven.  House smells good & my tummy is full, the wind is still blowing but not TOO cold.

Hope everyone has had a good day, we gotta keep on keeping on!

Good morning everyone..

Not a a lot on the agenda other than meeting my friend's husband in town to pick up some fabric that we had ordered. Need to corral those darn dust bunnies but hope to get that done before we leave for town.

Lloyd sounds like you're going to be busy with bees and honey this coming summer.

June, I think we all get confusing days but soon everything rights its self.
Jenny sorry you had a rough night, would a bath in baking soda or Epsom salts help?

Shirley, Mother Nature can keep me entertained ,there is so much to see if only one looks. I can almost smell that meat loaf cooking and can only imagine meat loaf sandwiches..

Jane, hope you have a wonderful day today..

I hear my washing machine calling me, one load is done.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Yesterday was a busy day!  I just seemed to keep moving and not getting anywhere.  It started with remembering that the doggie groomer was coming at 10 and it was nine and I wasn't dressed and ready for her.

The doggies are now beautiful, clean and neat.  They should stay that way for...oh say another hour or two!

I made the East African Sweet Potato, Tomato and Peanut soup. It's definitely different from anything I've ever made before and it was good. tool  I have almost 3 quarts left.  I'll stick some in the Hidey Hole so you all can try it today.

Have to get moving.  We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies pills and I need to get some other stuff done before I go to work at 10.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

OOPS!  Forgot to tell you, my neighbor's "mooching geese" were waiting outside her fence yesterday.  Just walking back and forth and waiting to be noticed.

Good morning everyone, 31° and frost is on the cars again. BUT the sun is shining for a change and no rain for today. At least it was not raining as hard yesterday when I went to the dentist. Just a cleaning and no new cavities. The girl I get there who does that job is so good. 6 n=months ago when I went I had a different one and boy talk about hurting. Then I found out the regular one had just lost her husband, had an accident on his way to work in the morning. They have 2 sons but old enough to know their Mom needed their support, 21 and 18 years of age. Funny how you can get attached to someone you see only every 6 months.

LARRY  before I left yesterday had a phone call that my CNA would not be here today. Good because the day after I go anywhere all I want to do is lay on the couch and doze the day away. The town car gals who drive are both great. They take turns. Three days with the car and Wednesday and Friday they drive a bus that picks up people at the senior housing places and takes them to a drug store and market in town and one day they take them to a big shopping center in the next town. At times they have someone in a wheel chair and they have to use the bus for that. Only once they had the bus when they came for me and made sure I could get up the steps. They handle the rollator like it weighs 2 pounds. The stay and wait for us and like the day with the bus I knew it would take longer for me and they left to take the man where he had to go and waited for him and were waiting for me when  I got out.

JANE  wonderful that a dog groomer goes to homes. The dogs are familiar with their homes and no anxiety of going to the groomers.

MARY ANN  I thought that Barbara Bush was the most down to earth first lady we have had. Like you I will always think of her that way. She was not one of those looking to be in the news.

AMY  love to see wild life when out driving as long as it is not a deer running in front of a car and getting hit. That happens often around here. When I first moved to this town if anyone saw a deer it was news but now they are a pests. Just heard on the news a man was attacked by a coyote. Something else that never were around here. Black bears have been sighted, too. When I think back to how we used to hike in the woods here, now it is not safe.

JUNE  a couple of weeks ago I had all my days messed up and not knowing what day I was on.

JENNY  hope you had a better sleep last night. Not good when we don't get the sleep we need.

LLOYD  good luck with your bees. Would like getting some of their honey.

JANE  does your neighbor feed those geese?

Have a good day.

Weeping With Pride
(Author Unknown)

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. It was a dry season that would bankrupt several farmers before it was through.

Every day, my husband and his brothers would go about the arduous process of trying to get water to the fields.

Lately this process had involved taking a truck to the local water rendering plant and filling it up with water. But severe rationing had cut everyone off. If we didn't see some rain soon, we would lose everything.

It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I have seen with my own eyes. I was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods.

He wasn't walking with the usual carefree abandon of a youth but with a serious purpose. I could only see his back. He was obviously walking with a great effort...trying to be as still as possible.

Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house. I went back to making sandwiches; thinking that whatever task he had been doing was completed.

Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful stride toward the woods. This activity went on for an hour: walk carefully to the woods, run back to the house.

Finally I couldn't take it any longer and I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey (being very careful not to be seen as he was obviously doing important work and didn't need his Mommy checking up on him).

He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked; being very careful not to spill the water he held in them...maybe two or three tablespoons were held in his tiny hands. I sneaked close as he went into the woods.

Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much higher purpose.

As I leaned in to spy on him, I saw the most amazing site.

Several large deer loomed in front of him. Billy walked right up to them. I almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck with elaborate antlers was dangerously close. But the buck did not threaten him - he didn't even move as Billy knelt down.

And I saw a tiny fawn laying on the ground, obviously suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion, lift its head with great effort to lap up the water cupped in my beautiful boy's hand.

When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house and I hid behind a tree. I followed him back to the house; to a spigot that we had shut off the water to.

Billy opened it all the way up and a small trickle began to creep out. He knelt there, letting the drip drip slowly fill up his makeshift "cup", as the sun beat down on his little back. And it came clear to me. The trouble he had gotten into for playing with the hose the week before. The lecture he had received about the importance of not wasting water. The reason he didn't ask me to help him.

It took almost twenty minutes for the drops to fill his hands. When he stood up and began the trek back, I was there in front of him. His little eyes just filled with tears. "I'm not wasting," was all he said.

As he began his walk, I joined him...with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him tend to the fawn. I stayed away. It was his job. I stood on the edge of the woods watching the most beautiful heart I have ever known working so hard to save another life. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops...and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, himself, was weeping with pride. Weeping With Pride

Mary Ann

Amy, did the Amherstburg earthquake reach you?  It was not a large earthquake and only reached to the Lansing area in Michigan, not to my area.  It's very unusual to have an earthquake in this part of the world.

Gloria, what a "teary" story this morning.  Loved it.

Hi Everyone.  Our day is starting out cool and it looks like 70 will be our high for the day.  The housekeeper will be here this morning and I am going to bring Elizabeth out for a couple of hours so she can do some work for us straitening the attack and helping take some things to the attic from the garage.  She called me this morning and wanted to come and do some work.  That will be pretty much for today.

Yesterday I got a letter from my cardiologist saying she was moving joining a cardiac group in Aiken.  I don't want to go clear to Aiken to see her and certainly don't want to go into that hospital if needed sometime in the future.  She did recommend one of the cardiologist in the group she is leaving so will call this morning and schedule and appointment to replace the one I have scheduled with her in July.

Jane, you are fortunate to have the trained EMTs working at Walmart.  I think many places use the Computer Based Learning courses to train employees.  Nice you can have your dogs trimmed right at home as it has to be less stressful for them.  Thanks for sharing the special soup you made.  Will you be keeping the recipe?

Mary Ann, I certainly agree with you that when a person dies is certainly not an appropriate time to criticize them.  I was feeling much better yesterday and ran quite a few errands as well as later in the day going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day and so far today I am OK.  I checked the golf schedule and see they are in Texas and most of the big names are not playing this week.

Amy, it has been quite awhile since I last saw a woodpecker.  The only osprey I have ever seen were in Florida.  There are apparently a lot of wild turkeys in the surrounding area of where I live but have never seen any of them since moving here.  What does your washing machine say when it calls you?  :)  I do hope you get those dust bunnies under control.

Shirley, since I am usually only outside in the mornings and take my B Complex vitamins in the mornings I shouldn't have to worry about mosquitoes.  Our city does spray for mosquitoes in the summer months.  We are checking out the personal alarms.  Is the alarm sound pretty loud?  Pat was checking into them yesterday and had watched a video and said the alarm wasn't very loud.  I reminded her she was controlling the volume of the video.  I do remember how big the ticks would get on the dogs.  Your brother was onery in telling you the Grandmother's prune cake contained ticks.

June, just think you get to have two Fridays this week.  :)

Jenny, sure hope you were able to rest better last night.  Sorry to read that Wednesday night wasn't a good one for you.

Lloyd, it sounds like that bee was really mad at you but guess it was just doing what bees are suppose to do in terms of the sting.

Amy, what does your washing machine say when it calls you?  :)  I do hope you get those dust bunnies under control.

Gloria, sure hope the shock of seeing the sun today won't be too disturbing.  Congratulations on having no new cavities.  Those are the words I always want to hear my dentist say.  Glad the trip to the dentist went well and it sounds like you have caring ladies who drive you.  That was a really touching story you shared for today.
