Lloyd...
... now those were the days of the good old handshake to seal the deal...and that was enough...how times have changed...You know what Lloyd, we are too honest...

Amy

Back , for now. After lunch will will pick up lumber. A cool but beautiful day out. On our way into the city a black bear cross is front of us. what a beautiful creature!! He sure could move, didn't waste any time going from one side to the next. Glad he made it across with no harm done to hi, he looked to be about 2 years old..

Jane, what a wonderful weekend you had with your family. Lots of fine fellowship and food too!

Lloyd, lots of snakes about....and yes don't trust them

Patricia, where are you??

On the road again...

Amy, I'm here, same old song and dance with our weather and otherwise, but I'm enjoying everyone's doings, errands, and stories. I'm also hoping, along with everyone, for Michele, Jenny, and Phyllis. I'm hoping Lloyd has better luck with the lawyer and enjoying reading about Shirley's trug gardening.

Our local grizzly and brown bears start leaving their dens in late March or early April, black bears a bit later in early May. "According to Tony Hollis, Fairbanks Area Biologist for Wildlife Conservation for Fish & Game, right now is the prime time for grizzly bears to begin waking up. Hollis explained, "This is the time of year that they start coming out.

The brown bears come out; first, grizzly bears, usually mid to late April, emerge from the den. Black bears generally come out a little bit later, usually starting in May. But this is definitely the time of year where they come out of the den and start roaming around. They'll start looking for food not long after they come out of the den. They can travel around quite a bit looking for food, so anything they can eat this time of year is a bonus for them."'

Amy

Patricia, we were surprised to see this bear. He wintered well, beautiful thick coat on him. I know they are out at the dumps  as they leave a calling card behind. Also watched for Osprey but all the known nests were empty, too early I guess for them.

While we have seen some animals around the areas where the different rivers bisect the city, the majority of animals are in the suburbs, so I rarely see them anymore. Male bears show up first in the spring followed by females without young. Finally by bears with cubs, in early May.

When I was able to visit the sanctuary, it was fairly common to glimpse bears or lynx in the far reaches after eight pm and in the very early mornings. The sanctuary is partially within the city limits and has two public areas out of a larger private acreage. I miss going there.

On April 17, 2021, a Sandhill Crane landed amid Canada geese and one White-fronted Goose at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge along College Road, per the local newspaper, so it's started.

Carol

Lloyd:  So sad your ex friend turned out to be greedy.  I am glad you have a place (here) to tell your story.

Jenny:  Prayers for your DIL and all the family.

We had a racoon problem last year and now there is another critter in the attic.  Sometimes it just rains costly problems.

Otherwise, we have gone through the winter OK - and will be nice to sit on the deck now and then,  Twice, there have been deer in the ravine so that is always a treat.

Best to all who have health issues or have relatives with same problems.

Good Night and sweet dreams.

Good morning

Calling for rain this morning..would like to finish off spreading the mulch but will see. Know enough to just take it one day at a time anymore. Need to do some banking in town
now you have to make an appointment just to get in the door!
Then home to wait on the phone tech, after talking with 4 on the phone yesterday they are finally sending a repair man out!

Carol, nice to see your post.Watching deer is always a treat.

Lloyd, worry won't help you and know it is difficult not to worry but you are only hurting you by doing so. Please take care and you will get through this difficult time.

Patricia, it is a welcome sight when all the animals come back to the area....yes even the skunks.

Jane, are you rested up yet?

Phyllis, Joy, Jenny, Shirley ,Sandy  and Callie hope you  enjoy your day.

Need to get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

JaneS

I loved having my family together this weekend.  After all the separation because of the pandemic, it was nice just to wathch them interacting with one another.  If I didn't do anything elso good in my life, I can say, I'll be leaving a family that loves one another!  And that makes me happy!

Best of all days, Jane. I do understand that gift of loving when we watch our kids tease & enjoy each other. Great photo of you! You sure don't look like 100. ;)  ;D  Okay, you don't look like "your age".  :hb3:  :hb2:  :happybday:

CAROL, how nice to see your post.  I have been sitting out on the deck the last couple of days hoping you might drive by and we could wave!  Sorry the critters are not n your attic again....Gurr!  We have captured some good videos of a heard of deer in our front yard, recently.  They are such a delight to see!  Also a bobcat here and there.

JANE, I can totally relate to the joy of being together with our families and watch he love of them all mingling in together!  That is a blessed gift in itself🥰  Enjoy your ongoing celebration tonight with the rest not the family.

PATRICIA, LOVED reading details about the bears returning.  And other wild life of course!

JACKIE, nothing but sadness when I think about how things are today and the way they used to be......we pretty much trusted in everyone unless they proved they could not be trusted. I miss that comfortable and friendly feeling.

Michele got the chest tube drain taken out of her lung yesterday....she was in awful pain from it.  Today is her last brain radiation treatment.  Please Lord, let her get strong enough to go home to her family🙏🙏

I had my first PT session and it went wonderful.  We both liked the nurse a LOT.  I will see her twice a week for four weeks until I see the surgeon again.  I have really been exercising a lot the last few days and even though I am extremely sore I am showing great improvement of strength!  I am happy and proud of myself.

I wish you all a good day.

Shirley

Congratulations on the recovery, Jenny. So glad you have a PT'st that is caring. I meant to tell you that I had a drain in my lung for months (from what I heard). Had pneumonia, whooping cough & measles all together when I was 2. I do remember the doctor stopping by on his way to the hospital, to check the drain & think about the last time I got caught up in the tree out front.  :-[  Mother said later that one of the neighbors told her "she was happy to see me out turning cartwheels again" but drain was still in. I still have the scar from that drain & it still is attached to my lung so it "pulls" any time I gain a few pounds. I know Michele's is a lot different but she has my sympathy for all she goes through & not trying to make lite of it.

Lloyd, you & Nancy also have my sympathy, for sure it is upsetting to be PUSHED by anyone. Take it one day at a time and if you don't mind an old friend "preaching" there is a Serenity Prayer that I say at least half a dozen times a day (I have a copy of it inside my Kindle cover, was sent to me when Cas died nearly 8 years ago). God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. It isn't easy to feel you have been cheated but all this stress makes the "crime" twice as bad for your & Nancy's health. Maybe it really is time for the 2 of you to get a nice place in town & enjoy the years going fishing and "chilling". You might even have time to enjoy the "toys" you have, maybe you & Nancy will a trug garden in town. Start planning for a little fun in the days ahead! I didn't know what was ahead when Cas died and to be honest, it has been a super nice 8 years because I do believe in that little prayer. Take care.... wishing happiness for you both.

And now I need to head to the store. Sounds like we may get some nasty weather later tonight. I really don't want to think about hail or hard rain that will tear up my garden! I will send a couple new photos (taken this morning) to Bubble, to show how the lettuce is growing. Not quite ready to eat BUT.. and I will figure a way to shelter the trug, just in case.

JaneS

SHIRLEY, you and I are now the same age!  So if I'm 100 so are you!

LLOYD, I agree with everyone else. Take life as it comes and go on with it.  Maybe it is time for you and Nancy to find a nice place in town with a yard big enough to grow some goodies and not too big to have to work hard at it.  I know you're used to the country and I was too when I finally sold the house where I raised my kids and entertained my friends and family.  This huse is a lot smaller and it took some time to adjust but I'm happy here!  You'll find your niche!

JENNY, it sounds like you're on the road to recovery!  I'm glad to hear you're doing well andI continue to pray for Michele.  She's a winner!

Thanks for all the balloons and flowers and for the good wishes!  I've made some good friends on these forums!  You're a special bunch!

I think I'll let the doggies out and take a short snooze.  I'm beginning to droop a bit and I don't want to fall asleep over dinner!

Happy Birthday, Jane!  I know you enjoyed it!

See, Jenny, I told you the PhysTherapist would do right by you!  And good on you for seeing it through and enjoying it.  Happy Recovery to you.    Also, prayers and good wishes for Michelle. She has a beautiful cheerleading team here on SodaShoppe.

Patricia, thanks to you for the "wild life report" and all the wonderful recipes you post over in what's for dinner, and also the photoshop board.  You, too, Bubble! I enjoy looking at those.

Lloyd & Nancy, bless your hearts.  It seems like you ought to be able to "appeal" the judge's decision on your property.

Shirley, as big as your place is, there ought to be some place where you can put your trug to keep those wild Kansas winds and storms from damaging it and the plants therein!

Jackie loved the picture of that flower arrangement you posted for jane's birthday.

JaneS

Another lovely day has come to an end!  I had lots of face time phone calls, regular phone calls, email messages and text messages from members of my family too far away to come home.  And now I'm ready for the haystack.  Thank you all for your flowers, baloons, pictures and good wishes.  A lot of love floats around in this forum!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Lloyd...
...dont know if you are reading this but, like others have suggested, find a nice place, put your feet up and enjoy the rest of your retirement years...you have done your life of hard graft....Time to relax and take it easy now, enjoy what is left of your lives..you both deserve this...

Lloyd Hammond

Thanks Vanilla-Jackie for the advice. But it is hard to relax in these hard times. I keep trying to turn My head, But my neck dose not turn like a owl's dose. I may not forgive like I should but I do try and Pray daily for god to forgive our short cummings. My body is worn out, My head says I can but My body will not cooperate.

Good morning,,

Going to be a lovely day here.....had lots of rain during the night making everything fresh .May get a sprinkle or two though today.

Piling wood is on the agenda today for me while hubby is finishing up the second trug. This one is going to be fun as we are to deliver it for this mans son, son will not be home as it is a surprise for him.

Jenny, way to go on the improvement, you can do it!!

Jane, you deserve a good nights sleep after all the fun you have had.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I'm waiting for Cooper to arrive but I'm beginning to think I'll get a text telling me that Frankie is running late and he's not coming today!

I have nothing planned for today!  I didn't finish it yesterday and I'm going to try to finish it today!  I'm not a quitter!

I hope you all have a day as beautiful as it is here.  Temperature right now is 63 and sunny and heading for 81 this afternoon!  Make the day your own in every way!

Oh yes! We're celebrating another birthday today.  Mickie is 14 today!

Good morning everyone, Jane give Mickie another cuddle for me today.

Cool this morning at 28 degrees, and we're expecting snow on Friday, from a coating to an inch! I don't know what is happening this year, but after reading about La Nina, I  expect anything goes!

I will attempt another trip out later today; wish me luck as I haven't gotten one in yet.  :(

Shirley

Think POSITIVE, Patricia, you can do it!  I find it harder all the time to do anything without a struggle but know from watching my father, we can't let up. I am sure the muscles around all my joints are lazy & that's why the joints hurt. For sure a tad stronger since the fish are back & I go down that hill every day. Hang in, you used to walk so much you made us all look lazy.

Thanks for the comments about my garden. I would never have known what a trug was if not for our Amy, so see what a great place this is??? Never too old to learn. I feel like a kid when looking at the lettuce growing... "is it ready yet?" Thanks to Bubble for posting!

Happy Birthday to Mickie... haha, I hear the M I C K E Y Mouse Club song every time, Jane! The dog I got for my 6th birthday was named Mickey because my folks were totally fond of Mickey since Walt Disney grew up in a little town down near where they lived. I got a clock, my sister got a watch one Christmas with Mickey's hands pointing to the time. My sister had a blue glass with Mickey's face in white.... BUT, Jane, I love the idea that your Mickie is the girl spelling, isn't that right?

And now I better get a move on, it's past lunch time & I have nothing to show for my day. My youngest son had cataract surgery this morning (2nd eye). I don't like his doctor, he opted for the whole implant so he doesn't need glasses & that's more/different than mine was. He said the laser was painful so you know how it is, we walk the floor until we hear everything is okay. Doesn't matter that he is pushing 60 (born in May of '63).
