Roley, a few years ago I went to visit a cyber-friend from North Carolina. He too was in a w/c after a motocycle accident. Another common cyber-friend from Australia joined me  for that visit.  She was with a scooter (spina bifida). Another common friend From Tennessee came with his rollator. I of course was on my w/c.  The four of us went shopping in Office Depot and other big stores.

I can tell you we were very much a sensation, especially when my chair overturned with me, on a display of CDs: there  was a sudden sharp slope on the flooring, hidden by the wall to wall carpeting. The noise brought about 6 or 7 selling guys around - ha ha ha.  But that was helpful to get me back on the chair.  I could not stop giggling...

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and about since 6:30 or so.  I made dog food, have chicken in the crock pot and water filling the washer.  I'm going to change the bed and remake it, wash a light load and a dark load and then....whatever happens, happens.

I hope you all have a great day.  Happy Anniversary Roley!  My sister and brother celebrated their 65th this summer and you just reminded me that I forgot it!

Hi Everyone. This is going to be another beautiful day here in South Carolina with the sun and a few clouds but will be dry and less humid.  It is suppose to get up to around 90 late this afternoon.  I did have my appointment yesterday with the cardiologist and had a very long wait to see him.  It was two hours from the time of my appointment until I was in the car headed back toward home.  He did increase my Entresto medication and I will see him again in four months.  On the way home I make a breif stop to drop off the clothes at the thrift shop, picked up Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for our lunch and made a quick stop at Aldi's on the way home.  I was glad we had decided to wait until today to go out to eat as I was pretty tired and still feeling the effects of it this morning.  I plan on staying home until we go out to eat later this afternoon and taking things easy.  I plan on watching some golf later this afternoon.

Carol, I guess you found out the priorities of the two guys working on redoing your bathroom.  However, it sounds like mother was a powerful influence.  Good for you not taking your quilt apart.  None of us are perfect and that little mistake makes your pattern unique from everyone else's that makes the same pattern.

June, I am also familiar with "Dear Hearts and Gentle People" as it was quite popular when I was growing up. Glad you are getting some cloudiness out your way.  That sounds like a delightful evening you enjoyed on the glider and the chance to talk with your Pastor.  Glad to see you didn't have any ill impact from moving your furniture.

Jane, glad your trust in your roofer were restored in finding he had called to explain not making it to your house.  Glad to see you have a couple of days off from work.  I expect weekends are a bit busier with shopper than during the week.  Our local news media has done a lot of reports on an unethical pool installer who takes a big down payment the job and then does a little work and never bothers to come back.

Roley,  my wife has been doing some serious online shopping to find a Rollator for her to use that I can get into the car.  Congratulations on being wed for 62 years.  That is quite an accomplishment.  You are 5 years plus on us as our next one will be 57 years.  Neither one of us ever expected that I would live to be as old as I am. We have some wonderful tools available to us to help us be mobile.  Probably a good thing to not have to recall your 5 weeks in the hospital as that is a long time.

Lloyd, your weather forecast sounds like it would be a good day to take in some Western's on your TV and stay in where it is cool.

Amy, while I would be happy to help Lloyd I really don't use Skype anymore so have no experience with the newer version.

Gloria, I was referring to you but should not have used the work respirator and just breathing problems.  You had indicated you had gotten wet in the rainy and chilly weather.  I try to distinguish between your and Gloria De by referring to her by the screen name she used to use here. I hope you have some fall weather where more people will want to be on your porch and you will have an opportunity to visit with them.

Bubble, that was a memorable experience with you and your friends in wheelchairs and being from so many other places than North Carolina.

June Drabek

roley…..I wish you and your wife a VERY happy Anniversary. I too had a 62nd, wedding anniversary , but that was 13 years ago.

Larry, I am sure your morning was very tiring, but you are wise enough to know when you must rest. Today they are have day long celebration in our big courtyard. I can see most of it from my windows, but I will stroll down and sample all the goodies. It is called Multiculture day, so there will be booths with food from various countries. We had one last year too, and it was Soooooo crowded.

Janie, I pay 55 dollars a month to have my laundry done here in our basement. †hat is 5 dollars a week, and I think that is a bargain. They do a lovely job too.I didn't have enough to bother with last week, so I just skipped putting my bag out for the girl to pick up. We use a mesh back and set iit just inside our door so the girl can pick it up even if I am not home.

Well, I have done my daily readings, had a light breakfast and now it is time to dress and go stroll the courtyard. It starts at 10, ends at 2.The staff and volunteers will be tired before it gets all cleaned up and stacks of chairs will be put away…..God Bless them.

see you later, June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Carol

Such interesting stories about a few repair people not showing or walking away with unfinished jobs.

Larry;  Thanks for saying that - I am slowing down and it isn't fun to redo work.   From a Galloping Horse, we can't see the flaw.

Bubble:  I kept thinking you were writing about a Water Closet (w/c.    :2funny:

Jane:  You just Keep On - Keeping On!  Atta Girl!

June:  $5 per week for doing your laundry sounds very reasonable to me.  It would be a lot for you to get up and down and wait for the machines so this sounds like a great idea.

JaneS

CAROL, the last load is in the dryer and everything else is put away. The roof is repaired but my microwave died this morning.  Sometimes, the "keeping on" is almost overwhelming but what else can we do?

The chicken in the crockpot is finished and cooling so I can deal with it.  I need to go down to the corner to get the mail and I turned down a trip to the Amish Store with my daughter.  I need to conserve $$$ this week....maybe next week, too but that's OK,  All's well!

I hope all's well with all of y'all, too!

Another day on the down slide. Hanging laundry out allows one to enjoy the outdoors. I listened to the loon flying over and then right overhead raven said hello while I was watching two Monarch butterflies dancing on the lawn. Managed to bring the laundry in before the rain drops too!! Baked a cherry pie and put some in the hidey hole  for you. The peaches we bought yesterday are still not ripe enough to can but there are a few for eating :) Lawn did not get done......maybe another day it will.

Jane, did you not just have that microwave repaired?

Carol, I do thin we are our worst critics when it comes to quilting. Now you have a very unique quilt.

Larry, my son was at Patriot Point today and thoroughly enjoyed it...….all but the hot weather :)

Yep! You're right, AMY!  That was the one that was repaired this early Spring.  I think it's a 4-month microwave.  I got it for Christmas, had it repaired in April and now it's dead again.

Back when I was learning to sew and knit, both my mother and my grandmother told me on various occasions that it's the mistakes and imperfections that make an item uniquely YOURS.  They both said that if it's perfect, there's something wrong with it.  I can live with that!  Of course, there were some things they wouldn't put up with...like mismatched plaids and stripes and I did hear a lot of "Rip it outs" when I was learning!  But I learned well!

Everything I planned for today is done and a few extras, too.  So now I'm going to "rest on my laurels".

I can't believe I napped for three hours this afternoon. B

I was awake at 4:30 this morning and then four hours at the big to-do downstairs. Good entertainment and good food.I'm going to have a very light supper, then down for the monthly Hymn Sing, then home to shower and  beddy-bye. tomorrow is Sunday and Chapel and a quiet day.

Have a peaceful God Blessed night and a lovely tomorrow. Hugs, Love, and Prayers, June.  :smitten:

My post was here, now it is gone! Gone, gone!

I forgot I left it and when I remembered it was too late.  I have done this before so one would think I would have learned the error of my ways....BUT, I guess not!

I was commenting that we were sad to see that John McCain past earlier this evening.  It was expected, of course, but not today after the announcement, just yesterday of him discontinueing his cancer treatments.  Our family will be forever thankful to this man for giving our Dr. Dave his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

I was watching Perry Como on our local PBS station....... I got caught up with that and then a tribute to The Carpenters.....that is why my post sat long enough to disappear! 😡

I truly forgot the personal comments I made so 8 had best just say good night to all.

Pleasant dreams.

Good morning everyone...

Woke to the sound of a gentle rain on the roof......snuggled back down for another half hour and just enjoyed the sound.

A day of rest here, with a bit of sewing thrown in.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Gloria

Good morning everyone, another cool night for sleeping, getting spoiled with the last 3 nights but tonight will be the last one because tomorrow according to the forecast the heat any humidity return.

BUBBLE  I think it is wonderful now that people with handicaps can get out and travel and are not confined to their homes anymore. I know without my rollator I would never go out  of my apartment without someone helping me.

JANE  every year my daughter send me a calendar and she writes all birthdays and anniversaries on the right months/days. I would forget most of them.

LARRY  that was a long wait to see your cardiologist. It is sad here how few go outside anymore. On weekends very few go out. Those few more who do on the weekends do because the witch is not here.

JUNE  glad my CNAs can do laundry. The washers are too bog for me to get the clothes out and the dryers too deep for me to reach the back to get the clothes out.

AMY  I never minded hanging clothes on the line even in winter. Always felt and smelled better than being in a dryer.

JENNY  I was sad when I heard about John McCain's passsing this morning. I always liked him.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another moderate day temperature wise with no rain.  I will be going to Sunday School shortly as it is my day to give the devotional.  Then I will come home and pick up Pat and we will go to Church and then out to eat somewhere.  I think this will be the first time Pat has been out of the house for a week.  I plan to watch the end of the golf tournament later this afternoon.  We did not go out to eat yesterday as we had planned as neither of us really felt up to it.

June, I hope you were able to enjoy the Multiculture day yesterday.  That sounds like a bargain on your laundry as you would likely spend that much on self-service machines unless yours are free for the tenents.  It sounds like you had a really full day yesterday.

Carol, we all probably have a tendency to want our work to be "perfect" but that just isns't the way things are.  I have found that the truth of the matter is that other people really don't care and just appreciate what we have done.

Jane, fortunately microwaves are not very expensive anymore unless you have a built in one over your stove and even then they are not like the cost of a refrigerator or washer and dryer.  Maybe your children would consider that a good an useful gift for you.  I know we always had a problem thinking of something that my folks would like.  Most of us don't need anything else to sit on a shelf and collect dust. I would think your microwave would still be under warranty if you just got it last Christmas. Your mother and grandmother were so right about mistakes and imperfections.

Amy, I am not familiar with Patriot Point.  Where is it located?

Jenny, I figured when they made the announcement about John McCain stopping treatment that the end must be near for him. I see you have a special attachment to him because of Dr. Dave.

Roley, yesterday I watched the two video links you had posted recently.

Gloria, what a thoughtful gift that the calendar your daughter fixes for you is and sure it is very helpful.

Lloyd, I hope you get your computer back in shape soon.  Hope you enjoyed the annual senior fund raiser.

Joy

Good Sunday morning.  Another beautiful day starting.

Just wanted to stop by and say hello.  I have not been around  very much, as I still am having some health issues.   I think I am feeling better this morning, but just have not been sleeping very well, and that really is wearing me down.  But, that, too, will pass.

I hope to be able to sit outside later today.  It just has been such nice weather.  After all the rain,  the sun is so welcomed.

I hope everyone will have an enjoyable Sunday.

Good morning.  The sun is up and so is the temperature and the humidity.  We had really nice weather for the last couple of days with lower temps. and lower humidity but since it is still August we can expect some more uncomfortable days.

I'm a little stiff this morning.  My son and I worked on trimming the hedge in front of the house.  It had grown so much from all the rain this summer and really needed to be cut back.  David usually handles the yard work but with all of the new growth he was becoming a little overwhelmed so I got out my well-used and trusted Fiskars and tried to help a little.  I'm paying for it this morning but the soreness will eventually go away.

Carol, I always said the the "gods" didn't like humans to be perfect so even if I hadn't made a knitting mistake I would make a tiny one on purpose so the "gods" wouldn't be angry with me.   ;)

Did I hear my name?

Not quite OBE (overcome by events) but have been pleasantly busy.  Most of my computer time has been working on a couple of projects I agreed to do for an organization and an HOA committee.   :computer:
Son gave me links to information for the committee project and then told me "play with the sites".  Uh-huh!  :crazy2: Finally managed to find, compile and print out what I wanted  but was about ready to take back his invitation to come to a birthday dinner tonight.  :noway:

I enjoy reading about what each of you is involved with but have been spending more time in discussions about books, t.v. shows and webcams because I can contribute more to those threads .

Off to get ready for church but probably not OTL because I'll need to get ready for the birthday dinner.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Shirley

Jane, your comment about the "rip-outs" reminded me of when my daughter was in high school sewing class... had to buy her extra spools of thread to make her skirt because she had to do it over so many times.  She learned the basics, anyway.  I never thought about having a microwave be repaired because I buy the cheapest Walmart or Kohl's carries (that is big enough for any bowls I already have).  The first one we had was big, did everything but I never used for anything but reheating coffee or to nuke a TV dinner.  Think it lasted more than 20 years, from then on it's been the cheapies & they do all I care to do.  I still use a pressure cooker & cast iron Dutch ovens & don't plan to change my ways.  :uglystupid2:

Bubble, I can imagine your giggles when you turned over.... better to laugh that cry and I'm sure you were an expert at putting people at ease.  When my son had the braces on both legs a metal contraption was held together around the waist, attached to each leg.  He sort of sat in the padded brace for each leg.  His legs dangled with little wheels mounted on the side of each shoe attached to the braces so the feet could slide up & down, & braces had a tire like pad with heavy metal "stand" that went 3" below his feet.  He didn't bend & had to use crutches to balance as he walked.  When we were shopping at a mall store that had an escalator to the level below, I told him to wait above, look around and I would be right back.  He was about 7 to 8 years old at that time, knew no fear and rationalized that I was taking too long ( was staning in line to pay).  All of a sudden I heard gasps, everyone was looking at the escalator... watching my son glide down with his crutches slipped over his arm... grinning from ear to ear at the ride.  I rushed to help him get off, no problem, he was pleased with himself.  We even rode back up without indident.  Like you, nothing kept him from doing what he wanted to accomplish.

We had T-storms during the night, all cats were in so not worried about them, BUT was awake anyway.  Joy, like you, the past week I was lucky to get 3 hours sleep any night.  Try to catch some zzzzzzzzzs during the day & those darn robot calls seem to know when a body is drifting off.  Would like to bite the end off the phone.  Grrrrrrrrrr.   Cats are turning me into a nocturnal animal, doesn't work too well.

Really hot & humid today, hurts after a few days of fall feeling cool.  I've lived in KS since Dec of 1960 and cannot remember any summer being so humid.  whine-whine-whine  (Gloria, I need support for hating this weather!)

Good morning, Callie, did you sent those storms or did they come from "up north"?  Rain gauge showing an inch & 1/4, will be sticky this afternoon.  I attended the birthday party for the red headed gr-grandaughter yesterday.  Didn't stay very long, a room FULL of 5 year olds plus some younger ones (cousins, mostly) that came along to play in the inflatable water house. Since all the parents are friends they stay with the kids & visit until party is over.

Wishing everyone a fantastic day, enjoy the moment.

JaneS

SHIRLEY, when my daughter had to take home-ec in Jr. Hi she asked me one day if something had to be done "that way".  I told her that when she was doing it for school she should do it exactly as the teacher told her to do it and then I'd teach her the short cuts when she came home.  She was 12 and already knew some of the short cuts.  She loved sewing as much as I do.

LARRY and SHIRLEY, I don't think I'll have to worry about the microwave.  It was a Christmas gift from my son and he's the one who fixed it.  He sells them and fixes them in his TV and appliance business.  But I bet it won't get fixed again.  I bet I get a new one.  I'll let you know.  I told him last night that it died again.  He doesn't talk.  He just does!  Gets that from my Dad.

I was going to have a tomato sandwich with tomatoes from the Farmers' Market but I decided to just cut it up and eat it with a little salt on it.  UM-ummm gooood!

Other than "killing" my old microwave by putting a partially baked potato in it for too long, the only problem I've had with my current one is the turntable motor quit and I had that replaced.  If we must replace the current microwave, I'll get a table model because I am too short to get bowls out of the oven.  If something has a handle or if it is on a plate, OK, but bowls are too heavy and too hot for me to handle.

In Home Ec in the 7th grade, I made a two-piece outfit, complete with covered buttons.  It was a tweedy blue/green fabric and if I do say so myself, I did a pretty good job (sewing was not, nor is, my strong suit).  With the outfit, I often wore a kelly green sweater and my mother was horrified because they really did not go together.  That didn't bother me and I loved the combination.

Amy, I was surprised to find that Patriot's Point was in NC; I expected it would be in Canada somewhere.  I also had never heard of it.

Phyllis, it was good to see a post from you.  You were missing far too long.

Joy, I'm sorry your ills are still with you.

Larry, I too figured when Mc Cain discontinued treatment for his cancer that his days were numbered, but I did not expect it to be the next day.

I have a lot of "unavailable" calls but with Caller ID, I can ignore them.  I just had a call with the name SSI.  I didn't answer it, but the voice on my Caller ID told me it was a call from "see".  I get some interesting pronunciations on my phone - even if Tom calls me, the voice (female) says Tuck, not Tock.

I had a great day yesterday, plus I went down for the Hymn sing in the evening. Home to shower, then on to the breathing machine  for 20 minutes and finally to bed and book. Went to Chapel this morning, a good service as always. a huge Sunday dinner of chicken cordon bleu, baked potato, three vegetables and there is desert left in my fridge...N.Y. still cheese cake. So for supper I will eat light..cottage cheese, canned peaches, and my cheese cake

Life is good, thanks be to God.

Larry we do have a free laundry room just about 30 feet down the hall from my apt. but I hate the new machine they put in. and I found myself really tired from the job, so I talked to my kids and they said , by all means....do it, and I haven't been sorry.Every thing comes back nicely folded or on hangers. They pick it up on Thursday and it is returned on Friday.

We have a high of 82  low of 66. I should not complain, but how I would enjoy a good rain storm.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

JUNE, I'd have been happy to share some of my rain storms with you...especially the ones that were coming through my roof.  It's fixed now, thank goodness!

I had the rest of my lunch tomato in a sandwich for supper and the rest of the roast beef on the side.  I'm going to have some cantelope later.  I've discovered that it's just as good for the doggies as it is for me and I'm happy to have found a snack I can share with them without guilt.

I think I enjoy my church service as much as you do, JUNE, even if it isn't my son up there.  I sit in the same pew in the same church where I used to share my Sunday Mornings with my parents and my sisters.  It brings them closer every Sunday.

I hope you all had a Super Sunday.  Thanks Callie and thanks for checking in.  We miss you when you're gone.  You too, JOY, thanks for checking in...Phyllis, too!

Janie, I think it is beautiful that you have stayed in the same town you grew up in. I have cousins in Mn. that lived all their lives in St. Peter, Mn. Some on farms, some in town. Most are deceased now, but  keep connected to daughter of one cousin. We have sort of lost contact now…my fault.

Gloria de, I pray you will have good news from your heart doctor tomorrow. I see my doctor once a month. I have multiple problems that are not curable, but every day is a gift, so I enjoy life, one day at a time.

I'm going to have my light supper now, and since I just spent nearly an hour in our garden…using the glider, which gives good exercise to the legs, plus walking, so I am at home for the rest of the day.

June, that was so inspiring... thank you.

I just got up from a nice 2 hour nap so may have a strange night.... but feel like I could fall asleep right now. Did not go down to the river and too dark now, mosquitoes would attack.

Mary Ann, this kitchen doesn't have a lot of counter space so not long after we moved in we bought a nice wooden tea cart to hold the microwave and coffee pot.  I keep a pretty tea towel on top of the microwave with coffee mugs upside down on it so anyone can help themselves to a cup of coffee without asking where the cups are. It has a leaf that can be extended to hold dessert when we have company.  Pretty handy.

Jane, I manage to go to the church I grew up in about every time I go "home".  Pretty sure Mom is hanging around to smile,  I also visit their graves with fresh flowers (even if they are the fake kind).  While I think of it, that mustard recipe that you & Amy make, does it keep for quite a while (in the frig) or does it take a while for the flavor to really soak in?  I want it fresh for the camping trip, should be good to dip the brats in, especially the new hot ones from Johnsonville.  Like you, I love to sew but especially coming up with a new idea to remodel anything.  My poor home ec teacher gave me credit when whatever I was making came out okay.  I wanted a "broomstick" type skirt for Sadie Hawkins dance, jagged hem but still hemmed.  She thought it had to be hand done so I showed her that turning the hem up to sew the  "V"s with machine, trim the edges & folding it back under.... and it worked better than I hoped.  I hand hemmed that part, the V cut outs were neat (it was a plaid print) & I had an unusual skirt for the dance. I've had my failures over the years.  :uglystupid2:

Amy, I'm going to see if I can get your links after I post....or would forget to post, one thing at a time.

Phyll, it took me nearly a week to recover from going crazy with the weed whip down by the river path & in the berm. Sadly, it was all grown back before I was ready to take it on again. I decided to wear my Wellington boots that daughter got me in London... knee high.  You would have died laughing at my struggle to get them off, was afraid I might have to sleep in them. Next night I decided to put baby powder around the inside of the calf & shook some in the heel, helped a little but still worked up a sweat pulling them off.  The last time I filled my hand with powder & patted inside the thigh part, shook more in the heel & put my feet in without any struggle.... and noticed they were NOT MY BOOTS but the ones I keep for when either of my sons want to go down to the river.  They do smell good, though.

Better see if cats want their midnight snack early.  They finally went out a little while ago, been in all day & last night. Mama Callie has been staying in the garage & hides every time I open the door to get the car out.  She decides when she wants her meals in the garage or come inside to eat with her kids.  She loves when I come out to walk around the yard, down to the river or visit a neighbor, follows me like a dog.  So this is life in Kansas, August 2018.

Gloria de... hope your report is good from the doctor.  Good night, June, I'll turn out the light.

Amy, here's links to the Hutchinson Cosmosphere... camping & all.  Much like what you posted.  That was neat, kids do have a lot of advantages we never thought of "back in the day".
