Good afternoon, Sunny very windy and cold.

Carol ave a safe trip. hope you get one day, that you can just put your feet up and rest. :)

Joy and Jane, was was in scouts for years, then at 14 joined the Sea Scouts, which I enjoyed very much.  My claim to fame, was we went into the 39 Worlds Fair and got to dance the SAilors Horn Pipe on Scout Day.
I have to speak up for 4-H, my sons were also in scouts and 4-H which I think is a wonderful organization My husband and I were 4-H leaders for 10 years.

Amy, we just had our 3rd snow storm this week.

Will be glad to see a post from Gloria and Joan.

By the way Patricia post my Cape Cod scene in Norman's column.

We had a great day away , thoroughly enjoyed the meal of turkey, ham and vegetables along with pumpkin, lemon and apple pie for dessert. Drive was nice ,roads were a little sloppy at first but dried up as the day wore on.

Hal, when I looked out this morning it really didn't "look" that bad but when I went out I saw that it was either this morning g or tonight and I am so glad I did it in the morning, do you know that saying "full as a tick" ?  Yup... that is me!!

Lindancer,  My grand daughter was very active in 4 H.  At that time,  she had a horse and competed in many of the equestrian events.  Won lots of ribbons.  One year, her group got to participate in the Maryland State Fair. That was very exciting for her and the rest of us.

Each year, they would have the 4 H fair and my husband and I went to several of the activities during the week.  She was always in the parade on opening day, and then took part in the events with the horse.  They got to spend the whole week there. Sleeping on the ground along with all the animals.  They were fun days.  And, of course, loved all the home making displays.  Each year they have a cake sale, where they auction off a lot of the bake goods the kids made.  That is their big money making event for the whole year.  The best cake brings in several thousands of dollars each year.  It makes for a real fun evening.

She is now 25 years old and a new mom.  Hopefully, one day when her little girl is old enough, she might get back into it.

some day!  3_flights from Tucson to Denver.  No food served so I ran and bought muffins.  I lost a small bag containg charging cables so I am sad.

Thrilled that one of the boys had our house in order and timed our pickup perfectly.  Two major crashes on the freeways and we still got through.  We had neighbors relatives from East use our house and they took loving care and even invited us to visit their farm in Missouri so that would be so fun. They were here for our friends funeral.

So nice to read your posts.

Amy, I hope you know I was just kidding you about the snow shoveling.  Happy you had a good/happy day with the family.

Been a nasty day, drizzle and raw all day long.  I am off to bed

Had a nice surprise visit from granddaughter Courtney who lives in Baltimore.  She was coming up for Christmas doings with the other side of her family and called to see if I was home and stopped here first.  Wehad a good visit and then sh left to go to her Cousin's where she'll spend the night.  Tomorrow morning my daughter (her aunt), myself and others are going to breakfast.

I bid you all good night and may God bless us, every one!

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another nice day getting up to 60 degrees this afternoon.  Pat and I are going to Sunday School and Church and then go out to eat.  So it will be pretty much our typical Sunday as far as we know now.

Lloyd, I just sent you an email that hopefully will be of aid with your question.

deAngel, I don't think I ever heard of the Sea Scouts (of course I grew up in the middle of the country and a long ways from the sea).  How were they different than the other Scouting programs?  We did have 4-H and I participated in it for several years and my mother acted as one of the leaders. I remember entering things in our County fair and winning some ribbons.  I saved those ribbons throughout the years until we moved here and then discarded them.  They were showing their signs of aging (I wonder why :) ). IT sounds like your snow is catching up for the year.

Amy, sounds like a great meal and sure it was an enjoyable time with the Christmas get-together.  Minus 22 is getting very cold.  I guess you all are used to it during the winter.

Joy, the 4-H is a good program and teaches young folks a lot about interesting subjects.  We never had a horse and think I rode on one only a handful of times my entire life.

Carol, sounds like it wasn't a pleasant flight to Denver.  At least the charging cables are not an expensive thing to replace.  Better the cables than something containing your medications.  You all certainly did a good deed in sharing your home with the family of your neighbor and sure it saved them a lot of money.

Hal, did you stay in out of the nasty weather yesterday?  Hope you had a good night's sleep.

Jane, what a nice surprise.  It is obvious that she loves you a lot since she stopped to visit with you first.  I stopped at my grandmother's home first on many visits back to where I grew up.  She was a tremendous influence on my wife and I loved her dearly.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

I haven't stuck my head out so don't really know what it is like out there.  Cold, I know that cause the heat is running pretty constantly.

a funny thing just came to mind.  Back in my grade school days we used to have row monitors, they got to check all in their row to be sure they had brushed their teeth, cleaned their nails, combed their hair and had a clean hankie.  Well all I need is a clean hankie and I would pass inspection.  Why did I think of that.

Well, off to get my coffee and a quick look at the paper, my wife went to a club dinner last night and won two really nice gifts.
a Poinsettia, big, big and a nice food basket.  She won a third time but didn't claim the gift, said she felt guilty.

C U Later....

I am always for food as all you know. all ypu have to do is look at my stomach and tell, but while ago I took a onion and pealed the skin off and cut the tops off and then cut it not all the way through, but so it would star out. opened it up and sprinkled it with garlic and covered very well with butter, cooked it in the microwave oven on high for two min.  very good.

Good afternoon, cloudy, and feels like snow. Weather report for to day is Bright Sun.  I guess it is shinning somewhere.

Larry, Sea Scouts were senior scouts, our sponsor had a boat, he would take us all out on the Great South Bay.  I remember part of the test, we had to tread water for 10 min. swim a certain distance, box the compass, of course tire knots, so you knew how to tie the boat up. Know your direction by the stars, so you could navigate at night. We also were divided into Port and Starboard. I belong to port.

Joy, My boys learned a lot in 4-H Mark went to club Congress in NYC for a few days, he also judged eggs and chicken at the NY State Fair in Syracuse.  Dennis even got a 4-H scholarship to help in college.

Sandy, I also am enjoying White Christmas and of course Miracle on 34 Street.

Hal, you brought back a memory of when I was in 1st grade, Every Monday morning we had to bed over our desk and pull the back of our hair up, so the teacher could inspect fo live :o

I don't remember if I said Good morning yet.  So....just in case....Good Morning Everyfriend.  I realize it's not morning any more but I think my mind is on Christmas vacation.

Breakfast was nice  and then Courtney stopped by and took her Christmas things along home with her.  She's going home to Texas for Christmas and this is the only time I'll be seeing her.  My plan was to send her things with my daughter (her aunt) who lives in Frederick and who she sees as often as she can.  Now I won't have to do that.

Larry, I know you're right that Courtney and I have something special together but we sure did butt heads when she was growing up.  I finally told myself it was because she reminded me of someone I knew well at that age...myself.  She's a lot smarter than I ever was but she has the same drive and push to be more that I did at that age.

The only other thing on my agenda is wrapping gifts.  I think I'll need a push to get that done!  My get up and go has got up and gone!  Maybe a cup of coffee and a chocolate cupcake will help!  of course, it can't hurt, can it?

I wish you all a good rest of the day and if you run across my Get up and Go, rap it sharply and tell it to GET ON HOME where it's needed.

Amy

Jane, I think your get up and go got up and went away with my get up and go. For a day that wasn't to be busy it sure didn't turn out that way.
This morning I stopped at the hospital to see my friend, she was taken there on Fri by ambulance and was diagnosed with pneumonia. prayers please that this soon clears up, she is the one with the pacemaker. Came home put together the 3 dozen butter tarts, and looked after the neighbours dog. :)) Love that job!!  If you have a moment would you also say a prayer for my son's fil, he is also in the hospital, they are not sure just what is wrong and he was to have an MRI today..

I am going to do a whole lot of nothing tonight....think I can handle that job...

Enjoy your evening.

Prayers for your friend and David FIL are on the way!  It doean't sound like your "get up and go" was missing AMY.  You got a lot done.  I goofed off all day.  Just got a message that Courtney is safely home.  Now I can relax.  I think I'll get the stuff together so I can wrap tomorrow while Tami cleans.  Once the wrapping is done, maybe I can think of other stuff.

Tomorrow is Kiran's 11th birthday.  I think she's planning on opening her birthday present when she comes here after school.  I like it when it's just the two of us to do that.

I guess I better get the second half of it wrapped in the morning.  I find I get a lot more done when I have a deadline.  I wish you all a lovely evening and a restful night.

Been a good evening.  Went over to my oldest daughters for supper, husband had fixed a pork loin and made pulled pork.  Also baked sweet potato and we took a pecan pie.  Stuffed.  So I am off to bed.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweet Dreams

Shirley

Hal, I've never fixed pulled pork.... and those loins have been such a bargain (compared with beef).  Did she cook it on the grill or what?  I do love it when fresh. Last I bought from a BBQ place had a stale taste to it so won't be shopping there again.

Amy & all loved ones, prayers that include everyone in here, when I talk to God before going to bed.  Nothing to show for my day except went to church early & breakfast with my son & DIL.

We are having such mild weather, I did run the sprinklers in the front yard today & discovered something wrong.... probably sand in the sprinkler heads keeping them from popping up all the way..  Something all the time, but it is so dry the grass & young trees won't make it through the winter without a good drink at least once a month.  Off to bed...  I'll echo Hal's..."God Bless and Sweet Dreams".

Good morning everyone.
JaneS unless you have been storing to us about what you do you have plenty of getup and go. hardest part of work is getting started. i am short on motivation any more. It ran out some time in the seventy's years and eighty hasten helped.

Good Morning Everyone!
Tisie, my SIL fixed it in the slow cooker with a BBQ sauce.  I think he said he cooked it all night and most of the day.  You are right about the low price, he found this one (10 lbs) on sale for a dollar a pound.  I am not sure what spices he used, but it was good.

Amy, I hope June isn't down again. Hopefully her boys or Dori will let us know something.

I only have one appointment this week, on Wednesday.  But I have to go in early to the lab to get some blood work done before I see the doctor. "They" say suppose to be cool mornings and warm afternoons, but "they" have missed it for the last 3 or 4 days.  "They" also say we are due another arctic front sometime later in the week.  Which means all you friends to the North and East will have some really cold weather.

Coffee is ready, who wants a cup.  Got lots of cookies to go with it, wife bought a big box at Sams Club the other day.

Lloyd Hammond

hall looks like you know your way around at Sams club also. when we go there shopping I hit the free samples of cookies and we get a hot dog sauerkraut and a soft drink when we are there at mid day. have a great day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  My computer did an update last night and this morning I couldn't access the internet or my email.  It was a long hour and a half until the computer shop opened!  But Clint was able to tell me something to try and it worked.  I love those guys!

My cleaning dynamo will be here in a few minutes so I'm going to spend some of the time cleaning off my desk and when shes finished in the bedroom, I'm going to (hopefully) finish my wrapping.

I think my hand is pretty well healed.  IT ITCHES LIKE CRAZY!

I wonder about JUNE, too.  Maybe she just forgot to say good night.  I hope so!

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Hi Everyone.  We have an overcast day but it really isn't cold as the morning started out in the 50's and we are to get to 66 this afternoon. There is a low percentage that we will get some rain today.  We had a wonderful Church service yesterday as our choir, with the assistance of several readers, the the Lessons and Carols service.  There was some beautiful Christmas music I had not heard before and the soloists were very good, as was the bell choir.

Following Church we went to the Dairy Queen as we hadn't been there is quite awhile and they serve quickly.  They were having a customer appreciation day with a special area marked off for the children with the big balloon type play toys and the most realistic small railroad train that took the kids on rides around the roped off area.  They were also doing some really nice face painting for the children. They had a couple of employees out front greeting people in costumes like a big ice cream cone and another as a duck, which must be their mascot.   As I purchased our food  they asked if I would like to enter their drawing.  I said sure and put my name and telephone number on the ticket and put it in a box.  I was shocked that while we were eating I heard my name called and I had won the drawing.  The price was a certificate for an 8 inch Ice Cream Cake.  We will save the certificate for a special occasion.

Today should be a very quiet one as nothing on the calendar.  I do need to write a brief Christmas email and get it sent.

I just read this morning that Pat Scott Halbach had fallen in her kitchen and broke her arm.

Hal, I have never heard of grade school classes with row monitors.  What would happen to you if you didn't pass inspection?  It sounds like your wife was on a lucky streak.

Lloyd, several years ago Pat fixed baked onions and I found them very pleasant to eat.

deAngel, thanks for the explanation of Sea Scouts.  Those sound like very useful things you learned.  I never learned to tie knots except when riding on the back of the hay haybailer to be sure the twine was knotted.  Living close to the water those were great skills to learn.

Jane, I got a chuckle from your comment about Courtney reminding you of yourself.  I doubt that she is any smarter than you are as you are obviously a very accomplished person.  I have one little gift to wrap for Pat this morning and then take it to the Post Office.  Hard to believe that Kiran is eleven.

Amy, hope your friend gets over her pneumonia quickly.  Hope your son's FIL doesn't have anything too serious show up in the MRI.  This is not a great time to be in the hospital, not than any time is great but sure glad it is there when needed.  I hope your "lot of nothing" turned out well yesterday.

Shirley, if you fix pulled pork may I suggest using your mixer to pull it.  Pat started doing that and it works quickly and very well. She does it with chicken.  She wishes she had known about doing it much sooner.  Nice you had a quiet day yesterday.  You don't seem to have many of those.

June Drabek

Good Evening my dear cyber family.Thank you for your concern about this absentee. I am not sick, maybe mentally, but sometimes I become over come with tiredness, and just have to obey the body and mind. Yesterday I spent a long time with my grocery ordering..couldn't follow the regular  pathway, so had to call the company for assistance. I held on "wait" for nearly a half hour, then finally got connected and gave my order, which took me much too long to do.

And now it is a new day. My order was delivered before noon, I had one of the single pizza's I ordered for lunch, cleaned up the kitchen, and promptly fell asleep for nearly two hours..went down to pick up my mail, and now I am here. Sort of. My mind is feeling vague. It seems the only sensible thing I can still do is write to you dear, patient friends.I did water my plants, cleared out a big bag of trash, started some new aftrican violet slips, napped, and that seems to have been my day. I am tired. So I will heat up yesterdays chick. noodle soup. some spiced beets, a desert, do dishes, and get ready for book and bed.

So, I have shared my life today with you, boring, I'm sure, but I need you all in my life. I love you, and Thanks be to God, He loves us too.  Blessings my beloved friends. June.
As long as we are here, let's dance.
