Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Hi Everyone.Judy, Pat's sister posted this new information on how Pat is doing.

Latest update from Pat's daughter.

Hi Judy,  she's feeling a bit better with regards to her leg pain. I think the procedure appears to have fixed the aneurysm. She is however quite depressed because of the news that she will probably be on a puréed food diet for the rest of her life. She isn't allowed to eat anything chunky at all. All meats must be puréed.
As well she's not very mobile yet barely getting out of bed.
There's no plan yet to send her home. She isn't mobile enough to be independent
She could use all the encouragement she could get.

so CP friends if you are able to write a newsy note or send a Christmas/Get well card message me and I will give you the address to send it.

CallieOK

Merry Christmas Morning, Everyfriend,

I've not yet received The Game Plan for today but I think #2 son/dil will pick me up "2:00'ish" to go to #2 son's for Gifts, Gab, Gobbling....and maybe a Game.

Larry, Rick and Patricia,  thank you for blocking that spammer.  I noticed he was listed as a "Newbie" in the Member List and had joined early last year.
And that's enough on that subject!!!!

So sorry to learn about Pat's condition.  I don't know Pat's daughter's name but, if you care to share that info., please message me.

Lloyd, I hope there's better news about Nancy today.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day with lots of fun and fine food.

Lloyd Hammond

Good afternoon one and all. thank you all for the concern's and best wishes.I just got home from seeing her. she is doing better but not out of the woods yet.still some loose bowels. I most likely go back this evening to see her. a chance she will be released today but better chance for tomorrow and I think that would be better. and merry Christmas to you all.

So very sorry to hear of Pat's illness, and also Lloyds beloved. Especially hard  on them and their loved ones at this special time of the year. May God be with them all.

I am spending a quiet day at home..just the way I like it now.Kids are free to do their thing, and so am I. Woke up feeling puny, so spent the whole morning reading my daily book s and the Bible.I am content. Time to grab a bite of lunch...think a cup of soup, +plus the goodies will do it.

See you all later,June
. .
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Since the Holland family was ill and staying in Omena for another day, Tom and I went to Annie's for brunch. Annie does not cook so she and her dad undertook to fix something Tom said was kind of like Eggs Benedict.  Tom had to tell her what to do almost every step and as he said it was a learning experience for her.  I doubt she'll ever attempt anything like it again.  She layered bread buttered on both sides (and browned in the oven) with cheese sauce, ham and a poached egg.  The side dish was hash browns and Tom had  grated one type of cheese and the potatoes.  It was good, but more work intensive than either Tom or I would do.  After we finished eating, Tom and I left for home and now at 5:30 pm, he has left to visit a friend.

Lloyd, if Nancy is still in the hospital, that is where she should be.  The doctors know what they're doing.

June, it is nice to sit by oneself on a busy day, isn't it.  With Tom gone, I am taking it easy too.

Don, thanks for the greeting from both you and Bubble.  We miss her posts and expertise.

Merry Christmas to those others who posted but I didn't mention.  I wrote a book in Norm's B&T and I don't want to do that again.

I am confused.
Which "PAT" are you referring to Larry?
who has an aneurysm...  and can no longer
eat whole food??

I am very sorry but I have lost my way,
amidst the "Pats"  here..      (giggle)

I'm home and my granddaughter, Frankie, is staying overnight with me.  Her father is picking her up tomorrow for a visit and then taking her back to Maryland on Thursday.  It's nice to have her around but I wish her mother hadn't had to go back alone tonight.

Is the "Pat" who is ill, PAT SCOTT?  Or do we have another Pat that I don't remember?  I'd like to add her to my prayers.

And I'm keeping Nancy in my prayers, also!

If you read this in the next 2+ hours, please say a quick prayer for my daughter who just left to drive back to Maryland in the dark...alone!  She'll text us when she gets there but 2 and a half hours is a long time to hold one's breath.

I hope your day was as nice as mine was no matter how you spent it!  I wish you a restful night and a great tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure the Pat Larry mentioned is Pat Scott Halbach.  He also said something about her sister, Judy.  If it had been Larry's wife, Pat, he would have said so.

Goodbess me.I did it again. I thought the time was 6:15 and it is 5:15 ph well have lots to do this morning .

Good morning everyone :)

Have a turkey to stuff and get in the oven for a noon meal..family should be here around 11.

We had a wonderful time with our company yesterday, our neighbours Mom said she really enjoyed a home cooked meal and she fell in love with our cookstove.I tired to have most of her favorites on the menu right down to cheese curd.

Prayers for Nancy and Pat continue and those that can use them.

Don. I hope Bubble can get her computer fixed soon......we miss her here.

Better cut this short ,stuff the bird and go shovel snow...

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a busy day around here, too.  My granddaughter Frankie stayed over for a Drs visit this morning and then she will be off to visit her father and he'll take her back to Maryland tomorrow....I think.

But I'm taking her for the Dr. appt before work and then to WM with me so she can pick up a couple things.  Someone will pick her up later when she's finished so she'll be at my house and ready to go to her Father's.

When I get home from work, maybe I'll have time to collapse!  Enjoy your day everyone...especially you, AMY.  Family is the best!

Merry the Day after Christmas!

I have nothing planned except to take it easy - as usual.

Tom is out for breakfast and I asked him to bring back a quart of milk so I can make my own breakfast.

Hi Everyone.  It is another clear and sunny day and suppose to remain that way all day long.  Our high temperature is suppose to be around 60 degrees.  We had a nice time yesterday but our son was and is sick with a cold so he didn't get to participate with us.  We were both pretty well exhausted when everyone left and I retired at 8 pm for the night, slept well probably for 10 hours, but have no energy today.  I plan on staying home and taking it easy today.

I got hold of the heat pump tech a little after 8 am this morning and he was here before 9 am and all he can find wrong is that the new control board that was installed a few days ago isn't functioning properly and he has gone back to get another new board.  We stayed nice and warm with the electric heat.

Callie, I hope the "G's" went as planned.  I especially liked the Gobbling.

Lloyd, glad to read that Nancy was doing some better yesterday and hope she will be well enough to come home today.

June, glad you were able to spend your quiet day yesterday as you desired.  Sorry that you were feeling puny and hope that feeling has passed by today.

Sandy, it is Pat Scott Halbach.

Jane, a special time when a grandchild can spend a night with you.  As you can see by my response to Sandy that it is Pat Scott.  Judy is her sister.  I expect you will have a busy day at the register as people come to find the after Christmas sales.

Rammel, I knew I was not seeing the red outlined posting box.

Mary Ann, it certainly wasn't my wife.  I will be more careful in the future to specify the individual involved in something like the health issues.

Amy, you are an early riser.  I didn't get up until 7:45 and didn't want to get up then.  It soon will be lunch time and I will be able to lay down for the afternoon after lunch for some more rest.  I hope you have a great time with your family today and know the food will be delicious.  I hope you didn't have too much snow to shovel and that most of it could be handled by your snow blower rather than shovel.

Mary Ann

Larry, by the fact you mentioned Pat's sister, Judy, I knew who you meant.  I've been reading this folder a long time! I seem to remember something about a bash where Judy made something for each attendee; I don't know her entire name, nor screen name.

It's overcast here but I think we will not have any precipitation.

I'm sorry to read about Scott, but you were able to enjoy the company of Jennifer and Elizabeth this time.  It is a lot of work to prepare and put on a meal and I don't blame Pat for feeling "this is it!"

I had a Christmas paper this year where I had pictures of all members of "my" family - Norm's greats, Tom, Dot and me.  Someone remarked that I should do that every year.  It really was hard to get pictures of everyone and one great-niece didn't send a picture so Tom got one off Facebook.  It was not something I could do by myself and I do not plan on doing it again.  I was very happy with the results, however.

Thanks for telling me that it was Pat Scott Halbach  ..
I knew that she was having difficulties and I am
very sorry that some of them will continue for a while.

Hopefully there are some creative ways to have food  "pureed"
that still remain flavorful.  (and easier to eat and digest).

Hopefully she will be able to get back up on her feet and
improve as well.

LLoyd,  I hope that your wife is also feeling  much better..

Best wishes  and good health to EVERYONE..

Good afternoon.  It is a pretty sunny day, but still so cold.

I just wrote a long message over in Norm's Bait and Tackle page, so I will just let you know that I did have a nice day yesterday..  It was only my son and DIl and my youngest son and me.  My middle son and wife  decided they just didn't feel up to going.  My son had had surgery for a torn tendon in his thumb and is in a cast and my DIL always works on Christmas for part of the day, so they were extra tired.  It actually turned into a more pleasant day than I was expecting, but they were missed.  Had a delicious dinner and my two sons kept the conversation moving talking about all kinds of technical stuff about I-phones, TV shows and of course, the computer.  MY Dil and I just listened and tried to figure out what they were talking about. But, it did turn into a nice afternoon.

It sounds like everyone enjoyed their Christmas no matter what they all did.  Just nice to be with family.  And, now it is all over for another year.  Time to rest up and start thinking about SPRING!!!   However, not before we will still be having cold days and maybe snow.  Pray that the rest of winter won't be too harsh.

Have a great afternoon, and get rested up.  Going to look for some lunch.

Sandy, thanks for making it clear that the "Pat" that Larry mentioned over on Norm's page was Pat Halbach.  I don't recall reading anything about her not being real well, so I was really sorry to read the news about her.  She is such a nice person.  I hope, in time, she will improve enough to get back to being able to have a better lifestyle.  I had been wondering about her a while back and wondering if they still are able to travel down to their second home in West Virginia ( I think that is where it is)..

Good Afternoon - on a cloudy, drizzly-turning-into-rain/wind day in Central Oklahoma,

Larry, there was plenty of Gobbling as the ham/dressing/green beans and fruit meal was delicious. Son made the dressing from my recipe but used gluten free cornmeal and biscuit mix so gluten-intolerant granddaughter could eat it.  She made a variation of my Chocolate Dessert that was very tasty.

The Game turned out to be a fiercely competitive round of Peanuts.  We used to play this with friends when we were first married and I was pretty good at it.  However, I discovered early on last night that I no longer have the hand/eye coordination to move as quickly as is needed with this bunch - so I became the scorekeeper.

Surely do hope Nancy is improving and Pat is adjusting.  First thought when I read "pureed" was "baby food" but then I realized how many kinds of recipes for Smoothies there are nowadays. Maybe those will enable a tastier diet.

I think my "get up and go" stayed put after a busy few days - so I'm basically being a Recliner Radish today.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere and Enjoyable Day and - of course - a Partridge in your Pear Tree  ;)

JaneS

I feel left out because people come in here and say, "I just posted a long one over in Norm's Bait and Tackle so I'll keep this short".  I'm beginning to feel like I'm missing something.  However, I never posted over there because I'm not a fisherman and I thought that's what they talked about!

Jane, I am so sorry as I am probably one of the ones who said that.  I will tell you, that I don't think I have ever read anything about "fishing" on Norm's page.  It is mostly the same ones who post in this message board.  Sometimes I will write a long message here and then say what I said over on Norm's page. I have no idea where that name came from.  I don't ever remember Norm talking about fishing either.

But, you are certainly welcomed there.  And, I will tell you that sometimes the same messages are re-written there that are written in here.

None of us want to think that you feel left out. I will try to not let that happen again.

I am certainly sending you an apology.  I guess I am one who just assumed that a lot of the same ones will post there. It is just about as busy over there as it is in here. Although, seems like a little bit slow here today. I am sure a lot of the friends are recovering from all the good food they ate.

I am not sure what's going on with my posts, just as I am ready to post they disappear. I hit the button to go back but nothing there. I moved my fav laptop to a back bedroom to put the Christmas tablecloth on for company yesterday & think I will leave it on until New Year Day, looks so pretty. Not sure I can get along with this laptop on a little laptop stand & not great light.  I've been in a number of times yesterday & today & blew the posts.  :-[

Woke up about 4:00 am to T-storm, thunder & all. Been raining all day, cats are frustrated. I played lazy & took a couple naps.  Wasn't hungry for supper so had a dish of icecream with caramel & chocolate drizzled over & then a Ding Dong cupcake.  Not a proper diet but like everyone, my body is stuffed with too much of everything. My plans to take cats for a drive, including Callie, to see how she reacts to a moving vehicle.... are looking dismal. Rain, wind & maybe even rain turning to snow by next week end... even a few hours drive might be a mistake.  I have a dollar off for 35 gallons of gas that must be used before the first of the month, so gas used will cost under a dollar a gallon.... that doesn't happen often these days. Couple of areas I've wanted to take a drive not too far from Wichita, so will keep an open mind.

Larry, my mother spent my whole life eating "baby food", nothing raw ever. After several weeks in the hospital in St.Louis, when she & Dad had tests run before he retired, all they could say was that "she had ulcers". Later in life a doctor suggested she start eating the all bran cereal every morning & in 2  weeks she was able to eat about anything, including Wendy's chili.  She was so thrilled at this turn of events she was almost dancing on the table. Because Cas' mother also had all the symptoms of Crohn's, we assume that is where our daughter & 3 of her 4 kids share that problem. When people get a bad "gut" from both parents/grandparents, makes sense to me. Daughter & her one daughter are on the path to gluten free life and doing better than every. They found the meds for Crohn's cause more trouble than they cured for them. I do hope that Pat will find a way to gain control of the eating.  Like Callie said, those "Smoothies" are a blessing today.  Don't know if you are doing a copy & paste of messages to Pat, Larry, but am sending my love & prayers her way. She was such a help to me when first on Seniors & Friends, advice for taking photos & camera needs. She is a master photographer. My all time favorite photo was one she posted of her dog Gordie laying on his master's grave. So many years ago........

Denver

A good evening to EVERYFRIEND. We have been busy most of this day trying to get as many things done for my Dad and Diane as we can.  We will be up tomorrow morning at 4 AM get ready to go to dads procedure that starts at 5:30 AM. We hope to leave for home as soon as we get them home and settled in.  Dad should be comfortable most of the day with the numbing the doc will do for the procedure. I really would like to stay a few more days but we REALLY have to get home.  If need be I will have to return.  Dad has been sleeping more and more all day long.....it is not surprising as all he can do is sit in the chair unless it is mandatory that he get up to go to the bathroom.  I so hope and pray that this procedure works tomorrow🙏🙏🙏

Today the Boston Family left Scottsdale and flew to Denver.  They got a car service to take them to our home where their car is located.  Now they are driving up to Vail to their mountain home, where they will stay for a couple of days.  We will see them next Sunday along with the rest of the Colorado Family when we all gather for a late Christmas Celebration before Kurt and Family fly back to Boston.

I can hardly believe Christmas can possibly be over.....these past few days have sort of been a whirlwind.

I hope every one of you enjoyed your Christmas Day.  I hope the family members that were not well and missed being together with family will soon feel much better.

Pleasant dreams to all.

JaneS, Norm's Bait & Tackle definitely is not about fishing.  If it was, they'd have lost me a long time ago.  I like fish, but not fishing.

There may be others who remember the reason for the B&T but I am fuzzy about it because I was not part of the original group.  Norm, I think Dapphne, Beverly, Shirleyn, Papa John, Pat Scott, maybe her sister, Judy, and I don't know who else were originally on Prodigy.  When there were folders for the states in SN, Norm headed the Michigan folder and some people wanting to join needed a passport which anyone got at no cost to them. The Bait & Tackle (I think) showed up in the Michigan folder.  When that part of Seniors disappeared, Norm started a group on Yahoo.  It was mildly successful, but hard to get into.  Eventually, Norm asked Pat Scott if he could be part of Seniors & Friends and she said "yes".  The first time someone asked about a passport, whoever was in charge slapped Norm's wrist saying no one needed a passport to get in.  Anyway, as long as he was able, he contributed to Norm's B&T but his health caught up with him and he ended up in Pilgrim Manor here in Grand Rapids for nearly a year before he died.  The name "Norm's Bait & Tackle" has stayed on.  People think I took over for Norm, but I did not. I do try to post something each day to keep it going.  I'll ask in B&T to see if any of them remember about it and copy it here.  However, in the meantime, everyone feel free to post over there as it is much the same type folder as Soda Shoppe.  Some of the same participants.

I've written so much, I don't dare write more here.

Mary Ann

JaneS

I was (sort of) kidding when I wrote that note but I was also (sort of) serious.  I really did think it was an outdoor sports type of board because of it's name and the fact that a man ran it.  It just began to strike me that a lot of people were posting over there and then holding off here.  I don't want to lose my friends!  Thanks for the explaination, MARY ANN and I'm sorry to have upset you JOY!

I did look for it but didn't find it listed in the  forums.  I guess I didn't look hard enough.

My granddaughter has gone.  Her father picked her up around 6 tonight.  She was such a joy to have here.  We talked about anything and everything and she even took my recipe for Moose Farts home with her.  She LOVED them.  She not only took the recipe, she also took a sandwich bag full of them to eat.

There's a special services office that I can see out of my front door and also out of any window on that side of my house.  I pointed out the beautifully decorated Christmas tree in front of the building to my granddaughter tonight and told her that was my Christmas tree and that it was giving me more pleasure than one that I might have erected in my living room.  I told her I can enjoy it whenever I take the dogs out or whenever I feel like looking.  She said "It's beautiful!  You should tell them how much you enjoy it!"  She's right and I think I will before they undecorate it!

It's time to hit the sack!  It's been a long few days and I'm really feeling the results of it.  The crowds in the store today were without end.  And the Christmas sale stuff was flying out the door!  I was never happier than I was today to leave and come home.  And my day started early because I took Frankie for a Dr. appt. before going to work.

Tomorrow is going to be a "do only what you feel like doing" day.  No obligations!  Nothing pressing!  No "have to do it" things to do.  I'm going to relax and enjoy the day!

And now I'm going to go to bed!  So I wish you all good night and sweet dreams.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Tad chilly out there this morning -11°F .sky is dotted with stars. I don't image any of us will have to cook a full meal for a while. We have both turkey and ham left over and I think a pot of potato ham chowder is in order  and later on a turkey soup with the carcass. Will take a plate of turkey to the neighbour, he likes the white meat and we are not fond of it.

I am more than ready to get back into routine and know one of my jobs is to purge some closets!! One by one they will get done and extra items off to Sally Ann.

Shirley, if you had of put pecans on your ice cream along with the sauces it would have been what I get at DQ a Dixie Bell..so yummy!! I didn't feel like eating supper but made one for Kyle and I had gumdrop cake:)

Better get things done before we head out to the Dr. at least the roads are clean for traveling.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, sorry I have been missing a couple of days. My son picked me up early on Christmas morning, had a great day, nice to have a little one around that was so excited about everything he saw. It was a very long day for me and was glad to get home, get comfortable and head for the couch and TV. Finally in bed before 8pm. Still tired yesterday. Every time I am away for even 2 hours I am worn out. My CNA was here yesterday and when she left I was back on the couch doing nothing. Hopefully I get some energy back today.

SHIRLEY  i have so many folders on my external drive I find something in the wrong folder and that is how I found that one from JOAN. I don't think we will never get over missing her and BUNNIE. From what I see at the end of your post it looks like you are waiting for snow. We have only had snow once so far. We did have some snow flurries on Monday but they didn't last long enough to even cover the ground.

LARRY  I did see that post from Brantcow and ignored it, as others said it does not belong here.

AMY  I got a chuckle with your males not asking directions, so true. Even when they have directions they prefer not to pay attention to them.

JUNE  I would have been content staying home on Christmas day but my oldest son would not listen to me and then of course seeing my little great grandson I cannot pass up.

LLOYD  so sad to read that Nancy is in the hospital. My thoughts and prayers are for her and with you, too. Let us know how she is doing.

Time for me to get my breakfast. Have a good and restful day.
