Good morning everyone, looks like we are in for a miserable weather day. Starting with snow and ending with rain. Glad I do not have to go anywhere. It is down in the teens so cold enough for snow. Schools are already closed in many towns and it has not even started yet.

LARRY  hope you feel better today. I have had days where I did not feel up  to posting so know how that feels.

SANDY  I am glad you enjoyed the in continence.

GLORIA de  there was a time when I was at the computer most of the day but now not so much.

DONKLAN  thank you for the update on the new Medicare card. Always disliked having out SS numbers on there and all our documents/cards.

SHIRLEY  so sad when Alzheimer's hits a person. MY DIL's Dad was hit with it. To see him just sitting there was heartbreaking, he was a smart man and lively as long as I had known him and that was before my son ever met his future wife.

JANE  Hooray, feels like getting a close friend back.  That's how I felt the month my PC was gone.

JUNE  it does get cold where my daughter lives now and they do get some snow but it does not last long. They get more rain than in San Diego.

AMY  you should have posted that Travel one yourself. I laugh every time I read it.

Forest Service Comments

These are reported to be actual comments left on Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by campers and backpackers completing their trips:

"A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call."

"Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands."

"Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill."

"Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of these pests."

"Chairlifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them."

"Reflectors need to be placed on trees every 50 feet so people can hike at night with flashlights."

"Need more signs to keep area pristine."

"The places where trails do not exist are not well marked."

"Too many rocks in the mountains."

Hi Everyone on a cloudy and rainy day.  We have a high percentage of opportunity for thunderstorms this afternoon. I had a very good night last night sleeping in my bed with the CPAP and oxygen and feel more like my old self this morning.  I can't eat breakfast this morning as have to give blood in a little while in preparation for my GP appointment on Friday.  I also need to stop at the city hall and pay the taxes on the cars and get the tags for this year.  Finally I have a 10:45 appointment with the my cardiologist.  I had considered canceling it but glad I didn't now.  If I have time after doing the first two things I will stop at the restaurant and get a breakfast sandwich otherwise I will have to wait until lunch time to eat and I really don't need any less energy.  Scott has to work this evening and I cancelled us out of going to the Wednesday night dinner at the Church.  So Jennifer and her friends will be coming out to have dinner with us this evening.

Sandy, you have the right attitude.  We deal with what comes along.

Thank you all for your prayers and expressions of concern.  I think I am well on the way to recovery this morning.  The cough is nothing like it has been and I just generally feel better.

deAngel, I feel for your neighbors dealing with the flu.  I feel very fortunate that I didn't have the flu.  This has been a very strange illness.

Shirley, I hope your "chicken breast under glass" turned out well.  I would prefer chicken over pheasant anytime.  Sorry for your DIL having to deal with the quick advancing of the dementia.  What I learned years ago with my mother is that it can basically go from one stage to an advanced stage almost overnight.  Glad that Andy hasn't had any sign of the Perthes damage.

Jane, glad to see you got your computer back and it will make it easier for you to post.  Glad to see you made the decision to stay home and stay safe today.  You sure don't need to be shoveling snow as that is something for a younger person to do if there is any significant amount or to use a snow blower on.  It sounds like you could use a day of rest.

Gloria, it sounds like a lot of the country is in for some really bad weather today.  I will be thinking of you all as we enjoy the 70 degree wet day here.  I love living in the South.  It seems the schools are being more pro-active in cancelling based on the forecasts rather than getting the buses into a lot of trouble.  I hated not doing a normal posting yesterday but just couldn't face it so thought a brief note was better than nothing.  My posting today is a good indicator that I am feeling much better.  I loved the Forest Service comments.  You have to wonder about the intelligence of people who would write such things. The last one is a classic.

Lloyd, are your hearing aids not working well?  Sorry to read you had a bad day yesterday and that your new mask for your CPAP didn't work well.  I hope you can rest today.

June, glad you were not coming down with something and you were able to enjoy your day.

Amy, sure hope you don't get caught out in the snow today.

Mary Ann

Gloria, I had missed the Travel Plans and it was mentioned often enough that I went back to find it.  I think I have been to most of those places.  I copied it and put it in my Potpourri folder.

Mary Ann

Carol

Gloria:  Your postings are fun to read - I don't know how you find all the writings but it is nice to have the entertainment.  Thanks

Jane:  Not everyone is good at driving in snow and ice and most feel too confident.  They are the ones you don't want to be near on these treacherous roads.  Stay safe and warm today.

Nearly noon here in Stanton. We were socked in with deep fog this morning. All cleared out now. Back from a good Bible study, and soon it will be time to go down for lunch.

Had a short message from Gary saying they had  good trip to Hawaii…Gary is not a "chatter." He will send pictures soon. Dori will fill me in…she is a writer.

Janie, I'm glad you are taking the day off. You don't need the added chore of digging out of snow plus WM work. Enjoy you day good girl.

Larry, I feel you should not be having dinner guests yet my friend. I am so happy you had a good nights sleep, I'm sure the oxygen zipped you up nicely, but too much company is not what I would recommend.

Time for me to get down for lunch. see you later.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

A “good day” to all.

JANE, good decision on your part to not venture out today!  I can well imagine you felt a big relief after making the call to you boss!

LARRY, good to read you had a good night of rest.  I hope your outing today will not totally wear you out!

Yesterday our new “groom” celebrated his 44th Birthday.  I never thought he would be this old before he married!  He is a young thinking and acting guy though.....just proves age indeed is just a number!

It is a beautiful day here in the Mile High City, so we need to get out doors and enjoy it!

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND!

JaneS

Hello from snowy Central PA.  The snow has stopped and now it's sort of sleety out there.  I'm sure the roads are bad.  The radio has been saying all day that if you don't HAVE to go out, please stay home.  They added that the trucks that are trying to treat the roads are having a hard time keeping up with the weather..  I'm sure glad I stayed home.

I have nine 1/2 pint jars of home made barbecue sauce sitting on the counter.  I really prefer my own home made to store bought and I've been out of it for about 3 months.  I have enough stuff to do another canner full tomorrow and that should hold me.

I also had a tasty barbecue (sloppy joe to most of you) for my lunch.  The sauce is definitely up to par!  That's what I'm going to have for supper, too, I think.  Only I'm having potato chips with this one.  I had the other one "on the go".

LARRY, it sure is good to hear that you are feeling so much better today!  I hope you are completely over your cough the next time we hear from you.

JENNY, the men in our family tend to marry later in life and it's been a good deal.  My dad was 37 when he married my mother.  My cousin was 33 when he married and my son was 45 when he found Sarah.  My grandson is already 34 and has had a couple relationships that we thought were serious but didn't pan out.  Now he says there's a girl in his life but he doesn't know yet if it's serious.  He says he'll let us know when he knows.

I think I'll go see if the dogs have absorbed all the zzzzs in the couch or if they left a few for me.  I don't need a lot....just a catchup.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

We got off lucky on the amount of snow, I just cleaned the driveway and a path out back for the dogs and to the wood .I would say we got about 3 inches ,now it is still coming down but very fine snow.

Larry, it is so good to hear you are feeling better, just don't over do it and have a relapse please. Good to see your usual post again. :thumbup:

Jane, I bet your home smells really good with all the sauce you have made!!

I'm just in to say an early goodnight. After lunch I was tired, and foolishly decided to do a load of laundry to try out the new washer....whew....it takes a Doctorate degree to operate the thing. Two hours later I folded clothes and
fell into bed....still worn out.I have  a place to learn about the washer on the t.v., but that is reserved till tomorrow. My brain has closed down for the day. I love you my friends. Keep well. June

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Tad chilly out there this morning -22° F but no  new snow to play with :) Taking hubby's vehicle in to the garage today to get the abs system looked at. We can wait it out as it will just be an hour.

Finished the cat quilt and can now move on to another...hmm maybe I should straighten up the sewing room,  messy gremlins have been in there. The neighbour is coming over this afternoon to poke down the chimney. Always nice to know the chimney is clean.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here this morning...about 16º here right now.  I know, it's colder where Amy is but cold is cold is cold!

Lloyd, I did sleep better last night and I didn't wake up until 7 a.m.  I might have slept even later but Annie had to go!

I ran the dishwasher before I went to bed last night and I got all the stuff ready to make a second batch of barbecue sauce.  This morning I put the dishes away while the coffee was brewing and now I'm sitting here chatting with friends while I have my first cup of coffee and the doggies wait for the "boing"!  While I was putting the dishes away, I reversed a couple of shelves in the cupboard.  It's getting more and more difficult to lift heavy and high at the same time so I moved the glass casseroles to the first shelf and put glasses and cups on the second.  Works for me!

I'm going to stay home today until it's time to meet Kiran's bus this afternoon.  I find that I rather like staying home.  And things are getting done that have been neglected.

I hope you all have a lovely day and that it is filled with the love of family and friends.  Make it exactly what you wish it to be!

AMY I say more than a Tad chilly. If i were your husband I would have a electric blanket over us and a heat pad under us and snuggling up close. but in the days
when i was young and tough, I was hauling killer horses to grinville Canada.
I had a full beard chin whiskers down on my chest. was -50 there at the time.
while I got out of truck and walked less than 200 feet into the barn I had 4 icels
On my mustache at least 4 inches long from the condensation of my breath on it. I will just love long distance as a friend. you are tougher than I am any more.
I can however reamber working at reaparing my bulldozer bare handed when it was well below 0º . I would go in house and hold my hands close as i could to side of stove without touching it and burning them. Have a great day.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, another cold one  with another forecast of winter weather. The weather person is telling everyone to beware of black ice. I have no desire to go outside in the cold today.

LLOYD  no fun when you do not sleep at night. I don't need a machine for sleep but some nights sleep just eludes me. We need some of that Fairy Dust that JOAN used to spread for us every night in what seems like years ago now.

JANE  last Tuesday my CNA called in to say she would not be in because of the roads. When the boss called me she said half of her workers called in.

LARRY  when I have  to fast before seeing the vampire I always bring a snack with me. Last few times my son took me so we went out for breakfast. Love those one on one times with both my sons. Wish I could see my daughter as often in person and not just on Skype. Glad you felt much better yesterday. That Forest item when I first read it. Like the city people who moved to this town because it was quiet and then wanted all the conveniences of the city.

MARY ANN  we can thank AMY for the Travel Plans. She sent it to me and I loved it.

CAROL  some of what I posted is what JOAN had posted and I saved. Have a full folder of them on my external. I have another external that was full and I have many on there too. Trying to think of how I can plug it in so I could have access to them. I knew how I drove on snowy roads but I was always watching out for those who thought they could drive like the do on dry roads. Every year there are so many driving in winter for the first time they really do not know how.

JANE  like you my daughter makes her own BBQ sauce. She has an old recipe from my SIL's aunt. She share it with her as long as she never gave the recipe out of the family. She did at the age of 98 and it was given to her in her younger years from an old aunt. I have a 43 year old grandson who still has not found the right girl for him. He works too many hours to meet some.

AMY  we had a little over an inch of show yesterday then rain and sleet so everything turned to ice.

JUNE  seems new appliances are all confusing to us. I know they sure are to me.

AMY  burning wood can sure mess up a chimney. A chimney fire is not good. This winter there have been some around this state and the houses burned down.

Crabby Old Woman

heart touching and sobering

When an old woman died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in Moosomin, Saskatchewan,
it was believed that she had nothing left of any value.  Later, when the nurses were going through
her meager possessions, they found this poem.  Its quality and content so impressed the staff that
copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.   One nurse took her copy to Alberta.

The old woman's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the
News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health.  A slide presentation has also been
made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.  And this little old woman, with nothing left to give
to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.
````````````````````````````````````````````````
Crabby Old Lady
What do you see nurses? . .. . What do you see?
What are you thinking .. .. .. when you're looking at me?
A crabby old lady .. .. .. not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. .. .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles her food ..     .. .. and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice .. .. .. 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice .. .. .. the things that you do.
And forever is losing .. .. .. A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not ..     .. .. lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding .. .. .. a long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? .. .. .. Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .. . .. you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am .. .. .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. .. .. as I eat at your will.
I'm a small girl of Ten . .. . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. .. .. who love one another.
A young girl of Sixteen .. .. .. with wings on her feet.
Dreaming that soon now .. .. .. a lover she'll meet.
A bride soon at Twenty .. .. .. my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .. that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now .. .. .. I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide .. .. ..  a secure happy home.
A woman of Thirty . .. .. ..My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other .. .. .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .. .. have grown and are gone,
But my man is beside me . .. . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. .. .. babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children .. .. .. My husband and me.
Dark days are upon me .. .. .. my husband's now dead.
I look at the future .. .. .. and shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. .. .. young of their own.
And I think of the years .. .. . and  the love that I've known.
I'm now an old woman .. . .. and nature is cruel.
'Tis jest to make old age .. .. .. look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. .. grace and vigor depart.
There is now a stone .. . .. where I once had a heart.
But inside this old  carcass .. .. .. a young girl still dwells,
And now and again .. .. .. my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys .. .. .. I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living .. .. .. life over again.
I  think of the years, all too few .. .. .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact .. .. . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. .. .. open and see.
Not a crabby old woman .. .. .. look  closer .. .. .. see ME!!
Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will have a beautiful day today with it getting into the 60's and mostly sunny.  My morning didn't go exactly as planned yesterday but pretty close.  When I got to the lab about 10 am I learned that their lab tech had gotten another position and they couldn't do lab work at our downtown location at this time.  So I decided to stop at the café to get something to drink, I couldn't eat as needed to be fasting for the blood tests,  However, none of the regular coffee drinking friends were there so only stayed a few minutes and decided to go on to my doctor's appointment, which was in a building attached to the hospital.  I did make a very brief stop and got my taxes paid on my cars and got new tags for 2018.  I had a long wait to see the doctor but she finally came in.  Apparently all of her staff are out sick except for one lady who handled the appointment desk and she was having to fill in calling patients, etc.  The doctor was pleased with how I have been getting long heart wise and no changes in medications.  It was close to 1 pm when I went on over to the lab at the hospital to get the blood tests done.  I had planned to stop somewhere for a sandwich on the way home but it was raining pretty heavily so just came home and fixed a sandwich and then spent the rest of the afternoon resting as was beat.  Our granddaughter and her friend came over after she took her dad to work and they fixed the main dish for our supper last night and then the ladies played Farkle.  As they left they took the garbage can to the street to me.  Unfortunately the automatic garage door opener had stopped working.  I will probably have to call for service to be done on it today.  The garage door isn't very heavy and can be manually raised and lowered so the cars are not stuck in the garage.
In a little while I plan on picking up my friends from the assisted living facility and going downtown to coffee.  I will probably pass on attending the Wisdom Group at 11:30 as am feeling some residual tiredness this morning from yesterday's activities.   I am going to suggest that we go out to eat later today as we haven't been out to eat for a couple of weeks.  That will be my exciting day.  I did have results from the PSA test done yesterday and my PSA has spiked about double from what it was a few months ago so it sounds like my prostate cancer is on the increase.  I will discuss this with my GP when I see him early tomorrow morning.
June, I don't think I have ever been contagious and both of our guests are well.  In fact, our granddaughter is to have laparoscopic knee surgery this afternoon.  Nice to read you have been up to going down to eat with others at least one meal a day.  That sounds like a very complicated washer.  I sort of felt the same way when we got our last new washer and had to have Pat show me how to use it.
Lloyd, hope you had a good nights sleep last night and didn't have to fight your CPAP mask again.
Jenny, the outing was tiring but that was from all the waiting.  The cough returned a bit last night but didn't bother me during the night and is very slight this morning.  I hope you were able to get out and enjoy your day yesterday.
Jane, I bet your barbecue sauce is delicious and so much better than store purchased.  It sounds like you will be well stocked with it when you get the rest made today. At the top of the page, right above where it shows the page numbers,  are several links and one of them is "notify".  Click on it and you should be able to get notifications of new postings again.  We have done the same thing with our dishes and pans in trying to have those we use all the time on a shelf easy to access.  Pat got this stand for the corner of the cabinet that we can keep the skillets on rather than having them stacked one in another as we used to have them.  It is really helpful.  Fortunately we have a lot of counter space so able to leave some of the heavy appliances out on the counter.  Glad you can have another day at home today.
Gloria, it sounds like today is another day to stay close to your apartment and not venture outside.  You can't blame the CNA workers for not wanting to get out on bad roads and bad weather.  However, I bet they are really missed by their clients.  I wasn't able to get until after 1:30 yesterday afternoon.  Fortunately I have never been one to experience hunger pangs but needed the food for energy.  I had planned to eat right after blood tests at 10 am but as I wrote above it didn't work out that way.  Very thought provoking piece you shared about the crabby old lady.
Amy, glad you avoided getting a lot of snow yesterday.
Shirley
Gloria, I have read that before somewhere, maybe in Bis' Nest?  Love it and printed out to see if my DIL will leave it on her mother's table so her nurses might read and be a little kinder because of it.  Thanks!  I made the print larger so took 4 pages.  Her mother can't read anymore, it must be frightening to be moved with no warning or choice.  My DIL visits her every day so still a familiar face, but she doesn't remember that she has 2 sons, grandchildren and great grands. Thanks for the "clip"..... sure has been cold, huh?
Need to see if Tom & his mother (Callie) are ready to come back in.  Funny to watch as each cat goes out, when I open the door they shake their foot before stepping out. Tiger waits until the warmest part of the day & will go out for a few minutes, she's no dummy.
Larry, so glad you are on the mend and the doctor was pleased with your heart check.  I have been worried the coughing & lack of sleep would do more damage.  Extra prayers that the PSA test will improve next test, Cas had a "scare" at one time but was much better the next test.
Have a wonderful day, EveryFriend..... find one thing to giggle about & share it with the rest of us!  Shirley
JaneS
OK, SHIRLEY!  Here's my morning giggle!  Mickey made a big fuss to to out while Annie watched, snug in her little bed.  I let Mickie out and tried to coax Annie to come but she wouldn't budge.  She's not dumb!  It's COLD out there.  Then Mickie began barking at "something" and the next second Annie was at the door wanting out.  She always has to go "help" Mickie bark even if she has no idea why Mickie is barking.  I just laugh and indulge them!
My barbecue sauce is finished.  I have nine more 1/2 pint jars ready to go.  That's a total of 18.  I always do it in 1/2 pints because that's exactly the amount of sauce it takes to turn a pound of hamburger into barbecue....or sloppy joes to many of you.
Also, I left barbecue and rolls/sloppy joes in the hidey hole for lunch.  Enjoy!
June Drabek
Just back from a meeting with "The Focus group." I still have to learn who they are which I will look for on the computer. I had a call from one of our employees here asking if I wood attend, so I did. There were only five of us. The two girls were from New Jersey, very personable. They were interested in what we want and what we get and we like in our  life in a care facility. It was interesting.Only five of us turned up to be interviewed but they had 4 at an earlier meeting.
Now it is time for me to go to lunch, and at 1:30 we have choir practice, so I will be flat out the rest of the day………….
Yes..I am really tired. Really had to drag myself back from choir. Put on some comfy clothes, had a short nap and home for the rest of day.
Janie, I'm glad you had this day at home, you must be getting close to retirement time my friend.
Gloria, lots of complaints about the new washer. It is a beauty, but too much detail. I have been too busy today to find it on the computer. One girl said the boss should post a big sign of simple operation and post it above the washer.
Larry, I hope you had a nice day of rest, you sure were busy yesterday, but some good news from your doctor. Congratulations.
I'm going down to check my mailbox, then home to fix a light supper, and go to early bed and book. Tomorrow is my housekeepers day to clean the place up….other than that, I have no plans.
Sleep well dear friends and wake happy. Love you all, June
As long as we are here, let's dance.
Shirley
Love how your kids know the buttons to push to get their buddy to do what they want them to, Janie.  When Tom doesn't want to come in all I have to do is clink their bowls together & he comes running.  When Tiger gets tired of Tom picking on her she pretends to want to go outside, so he follows her out & she ditches him in no time at all, and is back at the door to come in and be "the only baby" for a while.
I've been tired all day, no reason.... I think my mother would say it's because of the weather changing so much, so fast.
I've got to visit with the tax man tomorrow, hope I have all the facts needed.  I am not a willing giver of MY money to people that did not work to earn it or do without to save it.  I'll be in a better mood next week.   :tissue:
Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm up. I have my coffee and the doggies have been out.  We're waiting for the boing for breakfast.  Sometimes I wish they didn't have to wait for that hour for the pill but if it helps, I'm OK with it.
I'll be off to WM at 8:30 today.  It's supposed to begin snowing again around 10 today.  I hope it doesn't amount to much.  And I think I'll put the broom in the car just in case.
I hope your day is everything you wish for!  Enjoy it!  Take it and make it yours!
